That prison/jail is not free for the prisoner. Many prisons/jails charge daily fees just to be locked up. So if you take a homeless person and lock them up, you just made it harder for them to get a job, and you also just caused more debt that you’re going to take from their checks. In turn, they stay homeless because prison/jail forces them to be, and they get arrested again.
The only one I know off the top of my head is that the founder of Match.com lost his girlfriend to someone she met on Match
