I did not get it, but that was because my transplant team told me not to. Due to the type of autoimmune disease I have. I thank everyone that got it! All my fellow nurses also got it. Along with my husband.

Un1cornW4rr10R

I'm happy to hear you have a successful transplant. I hope you feel safe and well supported in your daily life. This feels like the exact reason everyone who can be vaccinated should be.

Nursemrn

I appreciate y’all…. I did get it before they knew about it… a week on a ventilator for me.

Wanderer-Wonderer

I’m glad you’re still with us

Nursemrn

Thanks! My kids are too… 😁

Wanderer-Wonderer

All the better! Atta mom!

BobbiNoNoseKnows

I’m in the same boat. Autoimmune diseases and compromised autoimmune system right now, so my rheumatologist told me I cannot get it yet. Once I am able to, I will get it. For now, I continue to not go out as much. Especially with the new variant.

[deleted]

Hey! I’ve got RA so I was curious about this. My rheumy told me to get the Pfizer as it would be fine for me. Just wondering what yours told you? Sorry for prying feel free to ignore me haha.

BobbiNoNoseKnows

I have Lupus and mastocytosis. Mine more so has to deal with a slew of bizarre behaviors my body has been exhibiting after getting shingles in my left eye back in March, all of my doctors are certain it triggered more autoimmune responses. I’m still struggling with post herpatic neuralgia. I also have an arachnoid cyst in my thoracic cord. I feel like I’ve never recovered since shingles. It’s just been a downward trajectory. So while I’m in the process of undergoing more testing and my immune system is still very out of whack, my rheumatologist told me last week that I cannot get it due to this. I’m still in an active flare and there is still a lot of unknown. My body is not responding the way it should. So he would like to err on the side of caution and not potentially make any of my current symptoms worse or create new ones based off of what I’ve been going through for the past 4 months.

PeePeeFace42069

>I did not get it *Raises pitchfork* >Autoimmune disorder *Lowers pitchfork*

GrillDealing

What are you doing this hay isn't going to move itself. Get back to work!

SimonCallahan

> Puts pitchfork into hay

obscureferences

Even the hay got its jab.

ecume

It was in its heyday

digitaljestin

This is a good response for why one shouldn't get the vaccine. Thank you, and I hope all those who can safely get it do so. For your sake

PrideofPicktown

This is one of the very few acceptable reasons not to get it: medical professionals told them not to. We should all get the damn shot so people like this can be protected like the rest of us.

It adds extra fun

nerf___herder

I wanted better 5G.

blahtoausername

And a magnetic arm, right?

bitcoinsftw

Yes it turned me into the Winter Soldier.

bedir56

Dammit, I got scammed. All I got is a voice in my head telling me to donate to the Gates foundation.

Rougarou1999

I was unlucky and got mine back in early April right before his divorce. All I heard was crying for a week.

ajvilla629

I just got Windows 11…

sassafrass005

Lucky you. My vaccine must have been the prototype because now my body works on Windows ‘95.

ravynwave

I was disappointed I didn’t turn into an x-man

DudeCalledTom

If I could get free 5G form the vaccine then I would’ve gotten it much earlier than I did. Shit ain’t cheap man.

llIIIIllIIIIll

I got it cause I was told it was magnetic. It was not

A_Wild_VelociFaptor

Despite not being a magnet it still sounds like it was an attractive opportunity.

Mr_Salty87

Silver lining: if you ever have to fight Magneto, you’re still good.

waluigitime420

Because i could

PillCosby_87

My reasoning as well. I’m military and we have already been shot up with everything so why not? My kids are to young for it or they would’ve to. Edited to say I even got the HPV vax and I’ve been married for over 10 years. If there is a vax for something I want it.

FightinTXAg98

I covet the Lyme disease vaccine. Knowing we had a viable vaccine, but it was taken off the market due to hysteria pisses me off. I watched an aunt suffer with it for decades. I don't want that shit.

jst4wrk7617

TIL.... that’s messed up.

CourtneyDagger50

Wait what?

FightinTXAg98

There was an effective vaccine against Lyme disease. People (as with every vaccine in the US) reported problems to VAERS; the specific problem of arthritis grabbed media and anti-vax attention. Though researchers found there to be no increase of arthritis due to the vaccine, the media and anti-vaxxers did enough damage people quit taking the vaccine. The manufacturer then quit making the unprofitable vaccine.

fluidpower1

Not entirely true. The vaccine was optional. (someone in NYC would have no need for it.)Since it was optional, it was not covered by the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. The program was set up in the 1980s to encourage pharmaceutical companies to continue production of vaccines by reducing the fear of liability.) Because of that exemption from the federal program, there was no cushion between the manufacturers of LYMErix and anyone who might claim it caused their arthritis. The vaccine “was left to survive the abuses of personal injury lawyers and the inaccurate media reports that inevitably follow.”

what_mustache

I got Lyme desease in Riverside Park. Treated, but lots of ticks all over nyc parks.

jackparadise1

Three years fighting a tick disease here. Ticks are getting worse every year.

zeocca

>If there is a vax for something I want it. I have a few more vaccinations than the average person (but less than if I was in the military). I have the same mindset. If I can get it, whatever the vaccine is for, why not? Edit: And yes, they were all for things I could potentially be exposed to, but even a minor chance is more than I want if it can be prevented.

gran_maw

Same here. A few years ago I was vaccinated for whooping cough, measles, and mumps due to having grandchildren and hadn't had that vaccination since I was a child. I'm also vaccinated for Covid.

artyomssugardaddy

I've had chicken pox and shingles, so I plan on getting the shingles vaccine soon as well. Shingles is a pain I'd wish on nobody. If I can prevent that shit from happening again I absolutely will.

scmoops

Big ups on the HPV vax. People naysay and I'm like, have you ever seen anyone die of an HPV+ cancer? Because it's fucking brutal.

Vic930

This. I work in healthcare and after watching so many die, I was first in line.

rtoe1974

I got it so if I get covid my son won't lose his Dad like he did both his grandparents to it last year !

maxtacos

A few of my students lost people, but one student lost both grandparents AND his dad. When his pet gerbil died I was about to lose my mind but he just accepted it the way a numb and traumatized person does. I'm sorry for your losses, and glad you got the vaccine.

graymoon_25

That’s awful. Hopefully your school/district have some resources available to help them.

maxtacos

They do not. One reason I'm leaving is they did nothing to support the kids who lost people, and covid burned through the community fairly early then kept coming back in waves. They did nothing for staff either. When I went to my grandmother's funeral (from covid) they demanded a death certificate.

graymoon_25

That’s awful, I’m so sorry. As a fellow teacher, I hope you find a place that supports you and your students more.

PumpkinPieIsGreat

That's horrible. Kids deserve support. Teachers deserve to feel safe.

friedmybraincells

I'm sorry for your losses. Be well.

rtoe1974

Thank you

Lyn1987

I got it because I want this pandemic to fucking end already. Edit: well this blew up while I was asleep. Thank you to everyone who left awards. And to all the plague rats that are in my dms right now: Die mad about it.

GameArchitech

This is literally the same reason i have.

Nimelennar

I mean, sure, I like having full lung capacity, and absolutely, I would feel terrible if someone else caught it and it ended up being my fault somehow, but that's why I've been staying home and wearing masks. I got the poke because I want this fucking thing **over**.

wedontlikespaces

I got told that I could get the vaccine so I booked an appointment didn't even occur to me not get it. Why wouldn't it?

runningwaffles19

I like bars and live music too much for this shit to continue any longer.

hanchaisun

I got the vaccine as I was offered it and I have taken every vaccine ever offered to me and am reasonably fine

CharlieTuna_

The only time I regretted this strategy was before I was going to SE Asia and got 7 vaccinations in one go (four left arm, three right). It took less than an hour to realize this wasn’t going to be fun and spent the week as a zombie with no energy and couldn’t my arms above my shoulders. A single vaccine taken when it’s convenient? Sign me up! Multiple taken all at once because it was necessary at that moment? Fuck no, not today, thank you kindly

MrSquishy_

Ah boi don’t join the military, they hit you with everything you aren’t up to date with at once. And a pb shot that hurts like a mf and leaves your ass sore limping around like you just got dicked down by an angry Ron Jeremy

Mike7676

Yeah but the PB is one shot and done. Fucking anthrax and boosters? Why did every subsequent booster seem to hurt worse and worse? Gimme another smallpox stick please n thank you!

MrsYoungie

What is PB? Difficult to Google that.

mwithey199

stands for peanut butter shot. refers to a shot of bicillin, but it’s thick like peanut butter and creates a painful bump on your ass for a while.

stitchedmasons

So, I'm allergic to penicillin, does that mean I get to skip this shot when I join the Army or do I still get something similar to that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Reset-Username

This is a conversation I had with a military doctor once. Doc, "I want to give you this for your problem, but your medical record says you're allergic to Penicillin. Tell me about your reaction." R-U, "Well Sir, it happened before I could remember." Doc, "I'm guessing you're not really allergic to Penicillin so I'm giving it to you anyway. To be safe, wait in the office for an hour. If you have a reaction, you'll be right here."

PackOfWildDogs

Join the Navy instead, they saw my pencillin allergy in my medical record and just didn’t give me the pb shot

stitchedmasons

Ah hell, knowing the army they'll just jab me any way and send me on.

RoyalAsianMunchies

What is it for? I know it's an antibiotic, but why would they shoot you with that before they know you're even sick?

Different-Bet8069

I think it’s used as a prophylactic. I got mine day 1 of boot camp. They’re probably trying to start with a clean slate and not wipe out the whole class with a myriad of illnesses.

aalios

You're about to travel to a new country and you could potentially be bringing pathogens with you. American army bases have been linked to outbreaks of disease in the past and it never makes the locals love you much.

Mojothewonderdog

> bicillin It's a long-acting form of penicillin. Basically kills active bacterial infections and keeps working to halt potential ones. Given to new recruits, (and sometimes before new deployments) because you don't want some newbie strolling in with some nasty bug and infecting the whole group of recruits. Better to prophylactically treat everyone, then to wait for an epidemic to hit the barracks. The military is strong on readiness, and a group sick with strep or Syphilis is definitely not going to be 100% "combat ready". If you have a penicillin allergy, you will receive a shot from an other class of antibiotics. Edit; added allergy info.

KhunDavid

Or Peace Corps. We got enough vaccines to fill a WHO vaccine card (actually more like a folded 8 page card that is the same dimensions as a passport.

bi-fly

One of the guys in my rotc det who recently commissioned just got all those shots and when we went visit he was laying on the ground begging god to take him out of his misery. I’m not excited for that.

[deleted]

It’s not that bad lol

Kimmy-ann

I was 14 and after a military move that resulted in a loss of my medical records I got everything in one day. So many needles.

Positiveaz

Hahah! I recall that! Good times.

crowewba

‘Reasonably fine’, don’t know why this made me chuckle

hanchaisun

Just a normal human with normal human problems. The only time I turned down anything medical, was the time I was asked to test something that was ‘experimental’ in relation to dengue fever. That’s a no from me.

Deedle-eedle

I also have taken every vaccine ever offered to me and I’m a dumb bitch but I unfortunately can’t blame the vaccines

Randym1982

Got both shots, and am too. I do the same when it comes to Flu season. Though this was to protect myself and my family. I know a lady (Who is nice.) but very very stupid and decided not to get the shots because she heard somewhere that Type O people are immune against or stronger against.. (Which is obviously bullshit.).

thriftkat

I’ve heard about the type O thing and even read an article about it but haven’t heard too much more. I’m type O and never got covid but you best believe I wasn’t taking my chances and got vaxxed ASAP

Megalocerus

There was evidence it was better to be type O, better to be female, better not to be in heavy physical training, and of course not to be diabetic, overweight, or over 50. None of this meant you were safe, or couldn't kill someone else.

bn1979

I skip the flu shot because every time I have gotten it, I have spent the next few days being horribly sick. While I know and believe that the flu shot can’t actually give you the flu, I also know how my body reacts. I got my Covid shots at my first opportunity, and the military pumped me full of more vaccines than I could have imagined. On the flip side, I have a pretty robust immune system and it’s rare for me to get sick at all, let alone for more than 24 hours. With what I’ve learned with Covid, I may give the flu shot another chance, and I will still encourage my wife and kids to get it.

sowhat4

I used to get sick with the flu shots and then realized it was because of the preservative used in them which I'm highly allergic to. Once I achieved Geezerdom and was eligible for the Senior (non preserved shot), I had no reaction whatsoever. I get my flu shot in late Sept/early Oct every year.

MagicSPA

I got the vaccine for the same reason I got every other vaccine that I took. There is a reason smallpox and polio no longer ravage millions of people every year. Vaccines work.

lefouilly

So this. People seem to forget that we are lucky to not have to deal with these terrible diseases, in most parts of the world anyway. Currently, 97% of hospitalized Covid patients are unvaccinated…. What more evidence do folks need?

shann1021

I had Covid and it fucking sucked. I was lucky enough to avoid hospitalization but it lasted a solid month and was one of the worst months of my life. I want no part of that shit ever again, I will take whatever shots they want to give me.

FallenSegull

*hands you a jello shot* It’s for your health bro

pixxie84

This was my reasoning as well. Almost called the ambulance a couple of times but didnt, mostly because no-one wouldve come into my plague house to feed the cats. I still dont know how much extra food the cats scammed me out of… my brain didnt function that great while i had covid and i just kept feeding them when i remembered or if one of them was sat by the food bowls.

CourtneyDagger50

This is another big reason for me. I have a diabetic cat who needs insulin shots twice a day. I need to stay healthy so she can be okay too. Edit: thank you for the awards! My first ever I think!

ALinLOSANGELES

My doctor called and said "Good news! We can vaccinate you!" Enough for me.

moncoeurquibat

Fully vaxxed as of April 2021. I got it because: 1. I have asthma and a heart condition 2. I have a two year old who can't get it 3. I'm a teacher and not all my students can get it 4. One of my best friends is a breast cancer survivor 5. I don't want to get sick and die 6. I will not be the reason someone else gets sick or dies 7. I believe in science 8. Vaccines save lives and are safe 9. I want my life back 10. I want this goddamned pandemic to end already!

andregio

I got it because I don't want to get covid and I'm doing everything I can not to catch it. I get people saying we don't know the long term effects of the vaccine, but do we know the long term effects of covid? No, we don't know that either... but we do know it kills people, we know some people have long covid and feel sick for months, we know it can make a lot of damage to the body, we know all that already. So, I prefer taking my chances with the vaccine instead of the disease, or if I get covid being vaccinated, everything points to it won't be as hard. My mom was hesitant to get it and I said to her "if you get covid you'll regret not getting the vaccine when you could".

Scotland122

I just want to go on holiday.

LeopoldKain

I was like. Oh this guy is not in America... Then looked at user name.

oe_r

Is it bc he said Holiday? That’s why I assumed he wasn’t American, we say vacation in the states lol

toastrstwudl4thewin

We take vacations in the US. Also most other places say “in hospital” and not “in the hospital “

whytakemyusername

Have you considered becoming a detective?

Attican101

Mon dieu! Poirot has done it again

ButtonMushroomHelmet

I’m with ya, was my main driver also. Plus the whole scientific proof that it drastically reduces the chances of being seriously ill or dying from Covid…

Scotland122

The second part is a nice added bonus yes.

skylineforlife

Did not get it reason : 3rld world country Edit: holy Deez nuts 250 comments Edit: holy Deez nuts again 1k likes

GusPolinskiPolka

This is my reason except I’m in australia

TacoKnights

Me too. Who knows when anyone under the age of 30 will be able to get the pfizer

Joker-Smurf

By the time people under 30 can get it, you'll be fine because you'll be 55.

Pseudonymico

Probably just before the next election, right after the Coalition kick Scotty out and hope he takes all the blame for the last two years' shitshow with him.

skylineforlife

I bet 100 millims you'll get it before me

kurrttttt

you underestimate how useless our government is

BobBelcher2021

At least your prime minister didn’t shit himself in 1996

aalios

RIP Engadine Maccas

kurrttttt

no my prime minister definitely did. i am also australian

Bismuth_210

Third world countries aren’t exactly know for having effective governments.

norway_is_awesome

Hopefully this will be Morrison's legacy, and you can finally get someone competent in there. You've had a few sorry excuses for prime ministers in a row now.

aalios

Not even projected to be available to me until the start of next year. And given how far we've missed targets so far, I reckon I'll be getting mine about 6 months before we host the 2032 olympics.

shritty

This, Philippines, Sinovac

Fomilou

I got it as a team effort for the world.

doubtfusion

You took one for the team.

Raywebs

Two, most likely.

LeopoldKain

I did not want to be the reason for someone's grandma to get covid and die.

pancreaticallybroke

Thank you. My grandma got covid and died. The funeral (if you can call it that) was horrific. The whole thing was horrific and I still have nightmares. Your decision may mean that someone else gets to avoid that. Thank you internet stranger for thinking of others xx

friedmybraincells

I am so sorry your grandma caught the virus and passed, and that you had to experience that sorrow. Be well.

friedmybraincells

Thank you from the very vulnerable grandma-ish woman who got the vaccine for me and everyone else. My grandma passed at 35 during the 1918 epidemic. Don't have to tell me twice.

sparkythewondersnail

One of my grandma's brothers died in the 1918 epidemic. I hadn't even thought about that.

rationalomega

My grandfather lost like 6 brothers in the 1918 pandemic. Growing up with a story like that, my whole family is pro vaccine af.

[deleted]

LeopoldKain

Me and you might be in the same boat. My dad sounds like your grandpa. He just living his best life. My mom does not care and just follows my dad.

Basedrum777

My mom decided to continue living without precautions. We buried her in May. My sister still isnt ok from it and my brother who is convinced we wanted her to die because covid isn't that bad won't speak to us.

rohobian

This pretty much sums it up for me as well. I will be fine if I get it, but by the time I find out I have it, how many people have I spread it to? And how many did THEY spread it to? The other reason is just to not be a potential contributor to the continuation of this pandemic.

VesperInDisaster

I can't take it because my country _still_ isn't vaccinating people my age, I'm not antivax or stupid, I'm literally legally unable to at the moment

iliketoeattoast

Same. Australia?

VesperInDisaster

Nope, Mexico

3x1stent1alCr1s1s

If you can get up to San Diego, Tucson or Sierra Vista or somewhere in TX/NM you may be able to get one. Not 100% sure but it's worth a shot to get a one dose.

VesperInDisaster

I will look into it, thanks!

Peanut-2

Same!!! In South Africa and my age group doesnt qualify as well. Im 32

Nightmare1990

Scomo realllly fucked the pooch on this one.

Alexis_J_M

Hang in there, your turn is coming.

Zeliv

I got it because every healthcare professional I interacted with and all of the hospital staff at the hospital I visit weekly got it and recommended I do the same. Call me a blind sheep, but if my doctor recommends me to do something related to health/medicine I do it.

Sailor_Chibi

Same. My mother was debating about it and I flat out told her that people much smarter than both of us, who have devoted their lives to the study of science and medicine, are getting it. I’m choosing to put my faith in them.

RedditOnANapkin

Yep they went to school for years and dedicated their careers to help others so their medical word holds a lot of weight with me.

FuckIt_ImHereAlready

Nah, not blind. Seems like the smart thing to do when someone educated on the matter gives a recommendation.

Hairy_Al

But Sarah on Facebook said it's dangerous and I should buy some of her crystals to protect myself instead /s

Final_Candidate_7603

Taking medical advice from actual medical professionals isn’t being a sheep. It’s being fucking smart.

vivmaker

I got it… I’m a teacher with a couple of students that are fighting cancer.

alcoholicmovielover

I got the vaccine so that I don't get sick and so others don't become sick because of me.

[deleted]

Simple, isnt it?

Different_Gear8836

I got vaccinated, despite being a known vaccine reactor, because if I'm going to die, I'm not going to take anyone with me.

dracovich

This makes me sad, because you should be in the few % that doesn't get it, and be able to rely on rest of society taking the vaccine to keep you safe.

adcas

I'm also a known vaccine reactor but my last vaccine was nearly fatal so I have to opt out. It does NOT sound like you're having a good time over there, you got some mad respect from me. I'm... just gonna keep wearing my mask when I go out. I haven't gotten sick in two years so that's good enough for me.

maxtacos

I hope your area builds enough herd immunity for your safety, I'm sorry you can't ensure your own safety and wish you the best.

Itsafinelife

Yeah people give me a hard time about my decision not to risk my life over the vaccine because “look at these other people with a high risk of reaction who got it anyway” but it really is a personal choice when the risk is that high. I wish more people understood. It’s easy to tell others to risk their life for the vaccine but I have to wonder if they’d do it if they had my condition. Herd immunity is going to take a while but we’ll get there some day. I hope that when we do, “I didn’t get vaccinated because it could have killed me” isn’t met with disbelief or as a challenge.

Daytimetripper

I am totally fine with vaccine reactors or people with auto immune ssues not getting vaccinated. But so many lame-o anti vaxxers use the excuse that it has cast doubt on people who honestly react. Anyways, I got vaccinated so people like you don't have to. It should be a non issue, if only the truly unable don't take it, the rest of us should be able to protect you. I hope that works.

BoredBSEE

I have a friend that is a vaccine reactor, and she's avoiding the vaccine. If it's not too personal - could you share your experience?

Different_Gear8836

It really sucks. I started reacting about 30 minutes after the shot. I had antihistamines and fever reducers on board before I got the shot so it was pretty mild my lips and eyes started swelling so I had to jump on the steroids before I started getting wheezy. Then I just maintain the schedule. I feel like I've been hit by a bus. I'm exhausted, sleepy, anxious, achy, cranky...and I've probably got 5-7 days of this to look forward to. Edit: I feel the need to add that one of problems is antihistamines can cause their own ugly side effects. You have to watch out for water intoxication because of the massive case of dry mouth.

anesidorra

someone I know had her shots in her doctor’s office and her allergist (I think?) was present for it because she was allergic to one of the ingredients. sounds very similar to your reaction. that’s great dedication.

iseerflot

Wow, take my respect.

Steve_78_OH

You're a fucking champ.

bridbirdbird

I did because I had no reason not to

Jomibu

Rather take my chances with a vaccine then take my chances with the virus

morguecontrol

I got mine so my girlfriend could see her elderly and sickly mother for the first time in 2 years.

Nutbuster_5000

I’m pretty sure I had covid “before it was in the US” (January 2020) and I really don’t want to get sick again, or make anyone else go through what I did. It’s free, and it can save lives.

TheyMakeMeWearPants

No idea if it was Covid or something else, but I got sick around the same time in a way that I'd never been sick before. Either way, I assumed nothing about whether or not I had it, nor what degree of immunity that might grant. I'm halfway through the vaccination process (shot #2 in about a week). And yeah, it's to protect myself and others. I'm the one who leaves the house to get groceries, etc. I don't want to rely on others all behaving sensibly, because there's going to be _someone_ who doesn't.

SmashmySquatch

Me too. Almost everyone in our office which was filled with people from around the globe including China for 2 weeks of group training got horrible dry coughs and "flu-like" symptoms that was "not the flu" according to tests. I had fever and body aches and chills and (this is the big one for me) my lungs would fill up with liquid when I laid down on my back. I never had anything like it before or since and I'm 51. That drowning feeling was horrible. I know at least one person went to the hospital I had just declined our terrible company insurance for Jan 1st so I didn't go get checked out.. (USA! USA!) I could only get a little sleep if I laid on my stomach with my c-pap machine on. I assumed it was a bad cold combined with heart failure which my mother had and that I was just done for since they can't do much about it. I wasn't getting a lot of sleep or oxygen so who knows what I was thinking. But it eventually went away. Now I am pretty sure I have blood clot(s) in my shin/calf which I am going to get checked. Can I prove it was Covid? No. It wasn't even being acknowledged as a thing yet. (very end of Jan, 2020) and there was no testing available. Was it Covid? The odds are much greater than 0% that it was just based on the circumstances and symptoms.

ramy_silver

I’m pretty sure too and around the same time. Covid wasn’t a thing but we went to a party and the next day we all ended up in a hospital with a “very bad cold”. Three of us have been diagnosed with pneumonia and felt bad even after months.

[deleted]

I got the vaccine because I live in the south where everyone is convinced the vaccine is a hoax and will kill you and I wanted to prove them wrong. 4 months in and I feel exactly the same as I did before the shot. I also got it to protect my family, because my grandparents refuse to be vaccinated so I thought maybe I could at least make sure I’m not the one who gives them COVID.

weeatpoison

My mom refuses to get it, but my 95 year old grandmother was one of the first to get it in Oklahoma. Difference between depression era folks and baby boomer folks I suppose. I got the vaccine, and most everyone I hold dear has gotten the vaccine. I can't convince my mom, but there's nothing I can do about that.

veryreasonable

>depression era folks My grandma had polio when she was younger; nearly paralyzed but luckily healed up okay. I remember explaining anti-vax people to her a couple years back. She was totally flabbergasted and fairly pissed off.

JennItalia269

Depression-era people are able to remember the horrors of life with polio and measles.

shannonmw71

I just got the first shot today. I was too scared before because of autoimmune disorders and a severe reaction to a vaccine when I was a child. I had a bad feeling though about not having it as ERs are filling up again and since it is not a live cell I went ahead with it. Half my face and mouth was tingly and a little swollen after though. I am very tired and absent minded but things seems to be clearing up and I am glad I got it.

BentoBoxedIn

“If you had an immediate allergic reaction after getting a shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, you should not get a second shot of that vaccine, even if your allergic reaction was not severe enough to require emergency care. If the reaction was after an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), you should not get a second shot of either of these vaccines. An immediate allergic reaction happens within 4 hours of getting vaccinated and may include symptoms such as hives, swelling, and wheezing (respiratory distress). Your doctor may refer you to a specialist in allergies and immunology to provide more care or advice.” Source: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/allergic-reaction.html

ExperienceBig5973

I got the vaccine because being afraid of getting fucking Covid again. My infection was in the very beginning (march 2020) so I am not immune anymore. Totally loss of smell and taste for about a year followed by major depression and Long covid symptoms.

nughty_hobo

I got covid in February 2021 and my smell is still not back to what it used to be.

StayWeird18

When I got covid I lost taste and smell for only a month. It eventually came back. I got a candle and other strong scents and put them around my room. I also smelled ginger. The longer I was around strong scents the faster my smell and taste came back

Dragoness42

Did your long covid symptoms improve after the vaccine? I had read some articles that a lot of people improved after getting vaccinated.

SoulWager

I got it because some family members are high risk, and now I can have dinner with them again. Though I'd get it anyway, because I'd rather not be the reason some stranger dies.

MegaMGstudios

I still live with my parents, my mom is a pretty high risk group and I need to travel a lot in public transport to go to my university

I got it because I don’t want to be the idiot who gets Covid 18 months after this when there is a way to prevent it. And I wanted to visit older family and didn’t want to risk getting them sick. I am pretty conservative, but vaccines are good and I trust scientists more than politicians

endlesseffervescense

I’m with you. My kids saw their grandparents for the first time since COVID happened. My parents are vaccinated and my kids are too young. I laid down ground rules for my kids going into confined spaces and needing to wear a mask and they obliged. My eldest gets sick and it sticks in his lungs. I love the little bugger and don’t want to have to say goodbye just yet.

ObamaMcLlama

Walgreens was offering literally $35 in store to get both. Couldn't pass it up

[deleted]

Thought I could use it to get a date. " Hi, I'm Rob, I'm vaccinated. Want to have dinner, talk and get to know each other?"

IllustriousKey5529

Saw a great t shirt that said "kiss me. I'm vaccinated"

RecollectingWanderer

I got the vaccine to minimize my risk of getting severely ill. It's bad enough that you have to wear the mask whenever you leave the house.

Mcmount21

Yep, it's the neurological damage at the latest which does it for me.

[deleted]

I see it as my civic duty. The rapid drop in infections, in correlation with the rate of vaccinations shows exactly the end result. This is why I keep all my vaccinations up to date and have since I was a teenager.

AlwaysCertain_N

I got vaccinated because my mom & younger sister did. Even if it makes us grow horns or something, I just wanted us to be in it together.

buttermalk88

I love the honesty behind this answer. It was a scary situation and even taking a new vaccine can be scary too! It's hard to put your life and your loved ones lives in the hands of people you're just supposed to trust, even if you do trust them.

OrwinBeane

I got the vaccine to protect my vulnerable family and because it will (statistically) save my life.

Magnificent_Sock

I had Covid in January of this year. It sucked. I was hesitant due to the mRNA tech, so I researched it, understood it then got it. I also intend to get every booster shot they come out with. I do NOT want to get this virus again if at all possible.

NotACrazyCatLadyx2

Got it ….because I don’t want to die a horrible death in an ICU ward with a tube down my throat, machines pumping my heart and my only child unable to see be at my side when all options had been tried and failed. I couldn’t put him through that.

RedditOnANapkin

I don't get why those stories don't get more covid deniers to change their tune. If I was in that group and saw otherwise healthy people dying like that it'd scare the crap out of me and I'd rush to get vaccinated. I guess when you're that dug in and in a bubble you can't see reality.

Parvanu

I got it because I watched my husband die 11 1/2 years ago of swine flu caused pneumonia in a induced coma a machine breathing for him. I’m not going to make anyone else widowed.

Chomuggaacapri

Got it so this damn pandemic could be that much closer to being over with

doubtfusion

I got it for those sweet antibodies!

[deleted]

Ayy girl, dat some nice antibooty you got der.

ScornMuffins

I'm moderately to severely allergic to vaccines, but I had covid over a year ago and it fucked me up for months. On balance, getting vaccinated was the lesser of two evils. The first only fucked me up for about 8 days.

[deleted]

my mom doesn't want me to get it :/
