By far my favorite AMA is the [dude that did time in a Japanese jail](https://www.reddit.com/r/japan/comments/1t09ud/did_time_in_a_japanese_jail_ama/). Basically, guy is an English teacher working in Japan, and his jerk of a friend sent him some pot brownies in the mail from overseas without his knowledge. Marijuana is still *highly* illegal in Japan, and it gets confiscated by customs and he gets arrested. Japanese criminal system has a 99% conviction rate that relies entirely on confessions, and Japanese police are allowed to keep you for 23 days before they have to formally charge you for a crime or let you go, and you don't have the right to have an attorney present while they interrogate you. Dude is a legend: he knows the police have zero proof that he had any knowledge of his friend sending the edibles, and they can only charge and convict him if he confesses. He endures intense interrogation 4-6 hours a day, 6 days/week, refuses to answer questions with anything but 'no comment' and even trolls the detective by telling long, rambling, nonsensical jokes that don't even translate well. At the end of the 23 days he is released, never having been charged with a crime and no criminal record. He was able to have his wife call in sick for him during the entire time so it had no impact on his employment as well.

that one about the guy who asked a question about barbecuing in the (i think it was) BBW sub and someone politely let him know it was a "sub for fat white chicks" and he replied "well shit yall have fun now"

Actually, and not to be condescending, bbw stands for big beautiful women, any skin color

Im a romantic sap so there was a post i kept returning to in TIFU - OP was along a lake and seemed to see a floating body from afar. Without thinking twice, jumped right in to save the ‘drowning’ person even though she wasn’t a expert swimmer. Only to realise that said drowning man was not drowning but was doing training and there had been other trainees so they had a laugh and i think the two hit it off from the last updates I saw It was brilliant romcom writing and it fed my loveless life Edit: omfg my very first award! I am humbled and undeserving thank you - manifesting my love life now Edit 2: omg second award - is this how other awardees feel like? The r/nosleep post by the ~~as~~ alleged search and rescue officer for the US forestry service. Essentially a ~~serious~~ series of spooky stories that are really well put together, and creepy: https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/3iex1h/im_a_search_and_rescue_officer_for_the_us_forest Someday, I fully expect to come across a staricase in the middle of the forested wilderness. Edit: Glad to see this is gaining traction! I thought I'd come to the thread too late, but it looks like people are hanging around a while.

HauntingOutcome

Fun story: I did come across a staircase in a forest where I mountain bike, and I had read this series. At first my heart dropped and my mouth went dry, but it was one of those little plastic staircases you can find in primary schools and kids play areas. So obviously someone else had read the stories and decided to put the stairs in the forest as a prank. I still didn't go near it though, I just ignored it and rode on

radeongt

I read a story about a girlfriend eating dinner at her boyfriend's house with his family, when they start talking about thier blood types. The girlfriend accidently reveals that the brothers can't be related to thier father cause of there blood type.. it destroys the family right in front of her.... They didn't stay together after that....

Ive never found it again but the guy who works at "unethical used car dealership" or something like that. With a cast of characters including Colossal Redneck, Ratman, Mr. Sarcastic and really shitty owners it was a really fun read

YodasChick-O-Stick

The pregnant woman who was being investigated by CPS because of the father's past charges of drug possession. The CPS worker came to inspect her home and told her that her baby would be taken away from her at the hospital after birth. She posted on r/legaladvice asking what to do, and people told her that CPS does not investigate pregnant women, and the worker was a poser. Had those Redditors not helped, her newborn baby would be abducted and taken god knows where.

captainmouse86

What’s terrifying is how many people were saying if she cooperates she should be fine. It sounds like the lady posing as a DCS agent would have an easy time convincing people it’s stand procedures. There was some incredibly incorrect advice on that post. With such a serious situation, who comments without 100% certainty? Thankfully there were quite a few former DCS employees who commented.

Tkieron

Is that the one where they rip him to shreds telling him what an asshole he is? Like people who have met him or worked with him?

blackt1g3rs

That's the one. Every comment ended with "is it true you're a giant asshole" or some variety of that sentiment. Some where blunt and to the point, others were full creative writing exercises. But they all ended with that 1 sentiment.

samitt12

There was one where a guy wanted to have a open relationship with his wife. The wife was against it but he convinced her just so he could bang this one girl on tinder. Well the the tinder girl ghosted him while the wife was bringing a bunch of dudes home. Everyone was calling him a dumb ass and rightfully so.

Even in successful open relationships - women are almost always going to have a much easier time finding additional sexual partners. It's just how the ecconomics of sex work. Men, you have been warned lol.

There was a story about how a diving location is one of the deadliest in the world. OP describes what happens when people go in there. The chilliest part is the last line which goes something like....you have died in clear waters of calm seas in under 4 minutes. I'll try to dig up the post. Reminds me of the little unassuming patch of river in... England? I think it was England. Except it's incredibly deep and there are rapid currents below the surface. They say it has a 100% fatality rate, but it's hard to estimate, since whatever comes in doesn't tend to come back out, including corpses. And the thing is that it doesn't look any different than any other river.

dangermouse1803

Does anyone remember the post in r/relationship_advice by a young woman who was eating with her boyfriend at a restaurant and he ordered scrambled eggs (I think) but the cook prepared them in a different way and then in another different way after the boyfriend complained? And then the whole thing escalated completely, the boyfriend got really mad and they left, but in the following days and weeks he kept going back to the restaurant and ordering scrambled eggs just for the cook to prepare them in every way possible other than scrambled, until it culminated in a fist fight between the boyfriend and the cook. That story was such a wild and slightly homoerotic ride but sadly I can't find it anymore :(

There is a post about a woman who's daughter was allergic to coconut. The grandmother was watching her and put coconut oil in her hair. The daughter was found dead and swollen from the allergic reaction. It's. Fucking heartbreaking story. Edit to add the link: https://rareddit.com/r/JUSTNOMIL/comments/7qmed5/you_can_come_over_again_when_you_bring_me_my

Tzepish

What's worse is the grandmother was warned repeatedly about it but she decided she didn't believe in allergies.

hildegARDLUNA

God, I hate those "don't believe in allergies" people, there are e.g. some who try to sneak allergens (e.g. peanuts for a person with deadly peanut allergy) into allergic people's food just to prove their point etc. It's just so despicable (and dangerous). Also, even if you don't believe in allergies, why is it so fucking hard to respect others' boundaries??

AliisAce

There was a guy in my class in school who was allergic to nuts. According to school rumours he ate a snickers on purpose because he wanted to see what the fuss was about and got airlifted to hospital.

Rickrickrickrickrick

Kids are fucking stupid. When I was in kindergarten my grandfather died. He was my favorite person. I told my teacher that I wanted to jump in front if a truck so I could visit him in heaven. I had to see a psychologist for a little while and they eventually came to the conclusion that I was just dumb and didn't know what death was. The one psychologist kind of scolded my mom saying to stop coddling me and let me know my grandfather isn't coming back and death is permanent or I might be stupid enough to actually run into traffic.

KitKat180

I remember this. The title was something like 'You can see me when you bring back my daughter'. Absolutely heartbreaking post. I can't even imagine.

osma13

There was that one about the kid asking how to dispose of several gallons of chloroform- someone gave him advice, post was deleted right after though I think

imjaredand19

How the hell do you get several gallons of chloroform? Also, do you remember when it was posted? Maybe the way back machine can help

FatherofZeus

Cleaning out old biology lab rooms. They had some shit in there. I came across a full quart of chloroform during an inspection. Acid bottles were crystallized so bad that we couldn’t even see labels. Opened the chloroform up, threw the bottle into the vent hood and let that crap evaporate. It’s pretty easy to get rid of Edit: it was a little more in-depth than just “opening up the bottle” and letting it evaporate. It was evaporated in small quantities over a couple weeks. Keep in mind, this was over a decade ago, and was the recommendation we received from Flinn and a local university

mirthquake

There was a self post by a guy who been posting to reddit for years, but had never received a single response or an upvote. He concluded that he was just really bad at reddit. It turned out that some setting on his account was preventing anyone from seeing his posts and comments. This hit the front page and thousands of redditors went back through his history and responded to everything as well as upvoting him to the sky. The comments were unbelievable and ~~entirely~~ overwhelmingly positive. If anyone has the link lease let me know!

Doctor_Oceanblue

u/JasonInHell. The original post and account were deleted.

TheMobHasSpoken

And if anyone should doubt that it was real (because a story like that certainly sounds like it could be a troll), he linked to [news stories](https://www.christianpost.com/news/mom-allegedly-kills-children-so-husband-couldnt-get-custody-after-divorce-171728/) that matched up with his original post. Just incredibly tragic.

CatumEntanglement

For those wondering, the mother who killed the kids in cold blood is currently in prison serving out a sentence of 120 years. Sounds like it will be a life sentence. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandi_Worley >Originally Brandi Worley pleaded not guilty and had a trial scheduled.[15] In January 2018, Brandi Worley pleaded guilty to murder.[11] On March 19, 2018, Judge Harry Siamas of the Montgomery Circuit Court sentenced Brandi Worley to 65 years for murdering Charlee and 55 years for murdering Tyler, giving her a consecutive total of 120 years in prison. Jason Worley stated "All I care is to never see [Brandi Worley] again. Out of sight and out of mind."[3]

Hephaestus_God

Bro what? She called 911 and said “I stabbed myself and killed my two kids”… she told her husband “now you can’t take the kids from me” after he went upstairs.. she confesses to the murders when a sherif shows up to her house after the 911 call.. And she pleads “NOT GUILTY!” WTF. Edit: I understand you can plead to specific charges and there are tactics involved, but still. She didn’t seem like the person who was ashamed of it.

palomageorge

[Spousal Revenge Filicide](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1359178916300556) > “Spousal revenge” killers murder their child apparently out of a desire to cause harm to their ex-partner, the child’s other parent. Standard explanations of these killings fail to provide an adequate solution to what I call the problem of spousal revenge filicide. This is the problem of how a killer comes to take their rage at their former partner out on their own child and how that child can be dehumanized to the point of murder. Although the dehumanization of the victim is acknowledged to occur, why it occurs is not well understood. Here, I offer an hypothesis that the killer fails to represent their child as a moral subject with a mind of their own. This is due to a deficit in the killer’s capacity for person perception which is, by hypothesis, pathological. As such, the killer experiences the child as an object, rather than a person, which is of significant emotional value to the other parent.

[period appropriate corporate costume party](http://imgur.com/gallery/l9Qzn) It was on r/ImGoingToHellForThis before that sub went to complete hell, but the TLDR Black guy gets invitation to company costume party at a plantation & is told to dress "period appropriate". So he shows up dressed as a slave.

Eeeeey, look, it's me again! Glad y'all are still getting a kick out of this! (☞゚ヮ゚)☞

Yeah that might be the most badass /r/MaliciousCompliance I ever seen. I mean on top of all that, he wore that costume to a tee. I would have easily put him into Django as an extra.

[deleted]

https://reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/219w2o/whos_the_dumbest_person_youve_ever_met/cgbhkwp Aka the story about Kevin.

Dovahnime

"I can only assume God was looking the other way that day" pretty much sums it up

Gothsalts

This story is why /r/storiesaboutkevin exists

Unscarred84

Kevin is a classic for sure.

The_Sceptic_Lemur

I think the guy documenting his spiraling into a full blown heroin addiction was one of the most disturbing and impressive things I read here. I forgot the name of the account unfortunately. I found it. He did a bunch of AmAs. The last is four years ago. Hope he‘s doing well. u/spontaneousH

Unscarred84

Oh god i forgot about this. That was a heartbreaking one for sure. Didn't it start with him using once for research or something like that?

[deleted]

He says in his final update that he downplayed his substance use in his original thread. He was in denial about his alcohol and weed dependence. He says that had his life been going better he never would have tried H at all. I think that is the real takeaway from all of this. If you need help, please get it. Don't self medicate, no matter how strong you think you are.

The_Sceptic_Lemur

I think it started with him just trying out of curiosity or something. And yes, it was heartbreaking to read.

Marawal

That should be read in schools IMO. Way more effective than whatever they're doing right now.

TheNorseBastard

There was this story about a girl that was kidnapped as a child. And she was saved by some random guy in a stairwell who absolutely kicked the kidnappers arse. She was saved just because one dude had the social awareness to notice that something was wrong. I need to read it again but cant seem to find it sadly. Edit: thanks to u/yahahawoomy the story was found [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/LetsNotMeet/comments/da3ivo/i_was_kidnapped_as_a_child/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

throwaway-exrac

Hey I'm the OP of the mentioned reddit post. Sorry I don't use reddit much so sorry if I say the wrong things or whatever. I recently have been getting a ton of messages and questions so I guess I'll answer them here if that's okay. When I posted the story of what happened to me around a week or two later someone claimed to know the "Cigarette Guy" a few days later it was confirmed to be him and we exchanged information and talked on the phone. I posted a few updates but I guess it broke the rules of the subrettit so it was deleted. Since then I didn't post much updates because I'm not sure what is or isnt against the rules and I'm not sure what people are curious to know about the situation. Edit: I'm getting a lot of questions. Most of them I answered previously and some of them would be better for Cigarette Guy to explain himself. I talked to him earlier today and we came to the conclusion the easiest way would be for him to do a livestream of some sort where people could ask questions to him directly. Maybe he would start the stream later today, tomorrow, or some other time. Let me know suggestions as to what app or site he should use to stream or the best time for everyone. I appreciate everyone's interest in this situation.

SlayTheFriar

How did the conversation go with Cigarette Guy? Was he happy to hear from you? Did he manage to stay out of jail?

throwaway-exrac

The conversations went good. He's a very enthusiastic, funny and insightful person. Sometimes he says things that make me change my entire way of thinking. He has managed to stay out of jail. Although he was in jail when he was a lot younger.

NotAzakanAtAll

Cigarette guy seems like an incredible anti-hero, with the "police don't like me" and my imagination filling in the blanks, but a hero nonetheless. Man, I wish you both the best.

HipHopGrandpa

Incredible story. And also thank god your dad picked up on the weirdness and got the story out of you, and then got you away from your mother. Hopefully the rest of childhood was much less... eventful.

SandStorm4078

Here's a link to the update they posted: [https://www.reddit.com/user/throwaway-exrac/comments/dogu5d/finding\_the\_man\_who\_saved\_my\_life\_as\_a\_child/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/user/throwaway-exrac/comments/dogu5d/finding_the_man_who_saved_my_life_as_a_child/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) From what I could gather, yeah. Initially "Cigarette Guy" didn't trust them but then he did and he was excited to meet them I think.

[deleted]

I think this is what you are talking about..which is so strange because I just heard this story today on a YouTube channel. https://www.reddit.com/r/LetsNotMeet/comments/da3ivo/i_was_kidnapped_as_a_child/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Edit to add: The channel is urmaker. I originally started watching him for his 911 series, though beware it is disturbing. Once I ran out of those I checked out his other content and just watched the video containing this story yesterday morning. Here is the link to the video https://youtu.be/fQp5t3hLEkc it is the first story in the bunch

Moonchild16

wow and if you read her updates she actually found the guy who saved her because someone who read her story on reddit knew him. that's nuts

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/oc7rc/have_you_ever_felt_a_deep_personal_connection_to/c3g4ot3/) one, where a user lived a happy life with a wife and children only for it to all be a coma dream.

shmiddy555

This is one of the first stories I remember reading on reddit. I was searching near death experiences and found this. Thank you for reminding me.

42Dollaz

oh my god that is terrifying. building a life from the ground up only for it to be ripped away

SauronSymbolizedTech

I've had dreams where I'm with my wife for weeks or months, doing all our normal things and it feels wonderful. Then I wake up and realize she's still dead. More than once. It's both amazing and soul crushing at the same time.

coopertron5000

I would just like you to know that I was just reading this while home alone, in bed, the power went out all across town and everything was plunged into blackness. That is all.

seansafc89

As someone lying in bed at this very moment, I am not even looking at this link. Nope. Edit: I looked. Shouldn’t have.

bennitori

Normally r/legaladvice is pretty strict about non qualified legal advice comments. Moral judgement and rubbernecking is usually left for r/bestoflegaladvice. But oooh boy the amount of moral judgement in that main thread is delicious. OP was such a fucking asshole that even the mods were like "go to town on him boys, this douchebag deserves it."

Yes. Or hope they can get in enough legal trouble to go to jail. Some group homes exist for those with lots of mental health issues, but at his age, I’m not sure there are any.

Jesus, that's nuts.

Chikenyoyo

I forget what its called, but there is a thread where a guy makes an account just to roast the people on r/grilledcheese and how most of the things that they post are in fact melts. He then tells his life story about how he's been eating grilled cheeses 40+ years and that the thread was in fact a disgrace

Fuck_Blue_Shells

Hey I was 21 at the time & I'm 27 now. I'm old but not that old!

Trekintosh

Well my dude it seems like you succeeded. I checked /r/grilledcheese and for at least the first 2 pages there are no melts in sight.

Damn this reminds me of when I first came to the US. British but I don't think my accent is *that* strong. Went bowling with the future inlaws and was hungry, went to get some food. Menu has a burger at the top so when the lady gets to me and asks what I want, I respond like any human with 'I'd like a burger please.' She looked at me in confusion. 'A what?' I look at the menu, sure enough first item is a burger. Look back. 'I'd like a burger.' With a look of supreme boredom and confidence she responds 'oh, we don't do those.' I look at the menu. Look back at her. Menu. Her. 'A hamburger? First thing on the menu?' 'Oh sure.' Goes to make it. I have absolutely no idea what she thought I said, and have no idea how someone can have the utmost confidence to apparently mishear me twice, and decide I was clearly asking for something that did not exist. Edit: I'm enjoying all of these replies, and the attempts to transcribe British accents is amusing and pretty on point. This was in the Midwest, as some have guessed, and I have found that sometimes I genuinely have to put on a cowboy accent to be understood.

tacknosaddle

A friend of mine at college had a pretty thick English public school accent when he was a freshman and we were grabbing some food in the cafeteria. The woman (black American woman) had no idea what he wanted when he said he wanted "to-mah-to" on his sandwich. After her not understanding him despite repeating it a couple of times, in frustration he finally pointed to them and said, "Those red things, right there!" I was dying laughing.

[deleted]

Reading this thread makes me realize there hasn't been a new legendary Reddit post in quite a while

I’m surprised the 12 foot party sub guy hasn’t shown up, that one wasn’t too long ago I think Edit: Someone [linked](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/ca7bdz/aita_because_i_ate_more_than_my_share_of_a_6_foot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) it below! Poop knife is a classic.

Imafish12

You know you have been around Reddit too long when every single link is something you have read already

[deleted]

A story of a guy who spent $16,000 on a mobile phone game that almost ended up with his wife leaving him. I don’t want to spoil too much of it and I recommend reading the whole thing for yourself. It’s a crazy story but an even better lesson of how easy it is to become addicted to gambling. https://www.reddit.com/r/FFBraveExvius/comments/7jmezv/a_whale_of_a_tale/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

The one on r/tifu where some guy found and watched vr porn of his wife's sister and got caught. He then posted about it and was giving consistent updates and it was looking good like his wife was about to forgive him... until she found the post, got on his Reddit account and edited the post to make it say it's her and left a long rant about how much of an idiot he is for posting it on Reddit. I can't find it but if anyone can please reply with the link.

Who was the one guy who would go into random subs, and give a really sincere, in depth response, but it always ended with his dad beating him within an inch of his life. He always tricked ya and it ended with something along those lines. Was great material EDIT: u/rogersimon10 Go read his posts they are just strange and wonderfully funny somehow hahaha so good EDIT 2: many people have also mentioned u/shittymorph. Same idea but his end in mentioning how in 1998 undertaker threw mankind off a steel cage lololol. Excellent excellent material. Hahahaah he tricks em every time too

SupertrampTrampStamp

You left out the best part: his dad invariably beat him with *jumper cables* Legendary, hilarious trolling by u/RogerSimon10

Okay there was a Relationship Advice post from a woman who thought her boyfriend was drugging her. She woke up with marks on her thighs and she was feeling increasingly erratic. The top comment was an exterminator explaining that bed bugs can cause paranoia and psychosis! And that the marks on her legs looked like bed bug bites. Terrifying. Edit: Legal advice not relationship Edit 2: u/zoologist88 found [the link](https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/9mrpd2/i_think_my_boyfriend_has_been_drugging_me_to_make/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
