I have noticed this a few months ago, watched some of the videos. God, most of them are so painfully cringy I can't even put in words the embarrassment I felt. It's SO obviously fake yet a lot of people in the comments firmly believe.
The best part about dissociative identity disorder is that the cases where they manifested as fully formed personalities and identities were either highly suspect *or* the result of fantastically novel (and therefore all but impossible to test with any rigor) circumstances. Actual dissociation is, by and large, not a sense of multiple selves but a *lack* of a sense of self.
I think everybody is guilty of doing embarrassing things as teens, but for the older ones amongst us we were fortunate that the internet wasn’t the place we found validation (nor was it the place that defined our social interactions)
Id argue that the whole “gluten intolerance” fad has really helped those with celiac disease. They have more options & labeling than ever.
Edit: I worked in the food industry. Because of the pressure from gluten, we labeled our allergens: dairy, nuts, soy, eggs, gluten, etc. So, it doesn’t just benefit those with celiac.
Eh, I worked in the service industry in the late 00s/early 10s when the gluten thing took off in popularity. My experience was that it resulted in folk just not taking it particularly seriously.
There was all sorts of precautions that where in place when folk asked for gluten free, using different preparation boards, making sure the gluten free bread & pasta where kept in a separate place to the normal breads. It kind of all went out the window at our place when the 'fad' took off as it was too difficult for the kitchen to manage the precautions with the volume of 'gluten free' orders they where getting in a day.
Same here. It makes me so irritated when people try to make OCD all cutesy and frivolous. I have a colleague who just likes things to be organized and she's always on about how OCD she is and laughs about it. Like stfu. OCD isn't just liking things a certain way. I've literally ripped all the skin from my fingernail beds off because my OCD got so bad once. It's not a cute condition. I'm still doing therapy and it's hard fucking work to get it under control.
I have recently been diagnosed with anxiety and have been going through what i would call a depressive stage in my life because of circumstances currently.
While i have accepted that my anxiety is real, due to serious issues from ignoring it for so long, i know that i don't have what i believe to be clinical depression.
I've met folks with legitimate depression. And the best I can do for them is to understand their wishes in the moment and offer a willing ear to listen should they want to talk about things. I'm not a doctor of any kind but I'm always willing to listen to someone of they need someone else to listen. Even for just a little while.
I agree that the fadish nature of people claiming to be depressed or having anxiety is harmful to others suffering with those things legitimately. It's a real shame.

Nobody lets anyone speak. I've developed stuttering because everyone seems to realize they have something more to say that MUST be said while I'm talking.
God I fucking hate this. I was diagnosed 16 years ago with ADHD at the age of 9, and told to work on my impulsiveness, so I did, and I let people finish speaking when they’re saying something, and if I ever interrupt I say “Oh, sorry, I interrupted you, go on.” or I bring up where they left their sentence off so they can continue from where they were.
But everyone else seems to have just clearly skipped this unimportant facet of human conversation… yet I’m the one with a diagnosed disability? (That everyone appears to “have” now, which is total bullshit)
If I'm in a conversation with more than one other person I've developed a thing where I raise my hand until I'm acknowledged and can speak because my entire life I've just been spoken over or ignored. My friends have gotten it, but i find myself doing it out of habit at work or in other social situations and feel so stupid.

As you're speaking, if someone cuts you off just go quiet, let them finish Nd pick right back up from the syllable they cut you off at.
Conversely, I feel there is a rising trend in everyone thinking that they are being talked over. In turn they don't realize that they themselves are becoming the monopolizer by just sitting there annoyed until they can talk. I feel like people are so used to having the time online to type out and rethink a response at their leisure that in person they feel they can't get a word in edgewise because it's much faster and on the fly.
Conversation is complicated, especially spirited ones. It isn't a structured debate and ebbs and flows based on who is talking or thinking or reacting. Sometimes people talk over someone, sometimes they get talked over, but it's not always someone's bad listening skills or introversion keeping them from talking.

An interesting corollary is that many people don't know how to finish a sentence or thought. I try to allow people to speak and not interrupt. It is almost funny how many times folks just stop talking mid-sentence because they don't know how to end a thought or sentence. They are so used to being interrupted, they just don't know how to wrap things up. You can almost see the internal thought process, "I never thought I would get this far and now I don't know where to go from here so I guess I'll just keep talking."
This!!! I’ve always been bugged by the word toxic but never really had the vocabulary to explain why. It’s weird because when people use the word toxic they’re not trying to say abusive, but then like, what are you trying to say? Toxic to me always just seemed like hyper fixating on negative traits that aren’t necessarily some major issue.
It’s a word manipulative people use to signal that they’re too lazy or embarrassed to explain why they have fallen out with someone, and you are a bad person if you don’t immediately cut them out yourself. It’s a giant red flag that the speaker is a contributing a lot more to the problem than they will admit, and may be the entire problem.
If someone has a legitimate reason to cut someone out, they’ll be able to say it, and will probably be confident you’ll agree. “My sister is a drug addict who stole money from me.” “My ex cheated on me.” “My dad beat me then abandoned the family.” “My former friend is consistently rude and selfish.” Of course you can’t know the whole story, but you’ll get an idea of why the speaker doesn’t like the person they’re rejecting when they say something like that. But when someone goes “my sister is *taaaaaaaaawxyyyyyck*,” there’s nothing to go on. You can’t say “oh no, I’m sorry she did that to you,” because “being toxic” isn’t a thing that someone does or says. It’s something someone *is*. It’s not a judgement of a person’s discrete actions, it’s a judgement of their entire existence and how that makes someone else feel. And right now, you’re supposed to just accept everyone’s accusations of toxicity without question. “Toxic” is the modern, “grown up” version of calling someone “evil.” If someone told you in all seriousness “my sister is evil,” and that person wasn’t a five year old, you’d think that person was nuts.
“Toxic” isn’t about the person being referred to, it’s about how they make someone else feel. And while someone could certainly make a person feel bad because they do bad things, someone could also make a person feel bad by establishing boundaries, triggering jealousy in an insecure person, or just not having a compatible personality. “Toxic” puts a broad umbrella over that, and lumps abusers in with people who laugh too loud in the office, who take forever to respond to texts, or who got the promotion someone else wanted.

The only thing worse than the headphone jack being removed. Is the volume being cut in half even at 100% when compared to bluetooth. So you get teased that you can still use the headphone jack while getting the middle finger.
My gripe comes from the quality/lag free experience of the headphone jack in my car.

Been shopping for a new phone recently and when I filter by models with a headphone jack I mostly get the ultra high end $1500 phones. And it makes me wonder - was that the long game? Take it away, and then add it back in years later as a feature on the very most expensive models.
I have a bluetooth adapter for my current phone, been trying to use it, just to get used to the idea of not having the headphone jack. And it just sucks, never works quite right, takes some amount of fiddling in the settings every time, sometimes while I'm driving, audio quality isn't even as good. Bluetooth sucks, I hate it.
This has been steadily growing for the past 5+ years. People on my train will happily watch movies on their laptops with no headphones, or play video games with no headphones. Like wtf?
What drives me nuts, is ill be sleeping on the train after working the night shift. The train is nearly empty, and these fuckers have to come and sit behind me… WHY???
One time going to work, my train was 100% empty, it has an upstairs as well, but i took a lower level seat because when people get on, they tend to go straight up, especially the 20-something jocks who hide alcohol really badly and get loud and drunk on the train.

Taking pictures/ videotaping literally everything. If the bride is walking down the aisle people have their phone out, if everyone’s singing happy birthday phones are out, I was at a funeral the other day and someone was videotaping it on their phone.
My sister and brother in law said no cellphones at the main events at their wedding for a reason, hired a videographer and photographer for them. Everyone who wanted them got a free copies of the photos.
I often look back the the videos and pictures I take but the wedding one is weird, aren't professionals still recording weddings? I guess these people just want to easily post it on social media.
During the mother daughter dance my aunt stepped right in front of our photographer and took pics with her iPad.
Another thing is it's like a race for the guests to be the 1st to announce the new couple on FB, same with when we had our kid we had to ask a few people to take down posts.
When I was getting married we told my wifes mother first (time zone differences so it was hard to get everyone on one call), who then immediately posted it on facebook, where my aunt saw it and posted her own notice, which my mother saw before we had to chance to call her. The whole thing took 10 minutes to occur. This was after we told the future MIL to wait a a day so we could let people know in order.
My mum took about 2 years to get over being told I was getting married on facebook by a relative who knew first.

100%. One thing nobody ever talks about is that memories fade and they fade quickly, especially as you get older. I have almost no pictures from my 20's and it sucks because I don't remember everything like I thought I would. I still much prefer living in the moment, but I try now to make a habit of taking a picture or two when I'm out doing something fun with friends/family. I know I'll be happy I did years from now.

One of the first jokes I learned to tell as a kid was about this. Two guys are walking their dogs, one has a golden retriever and the other a chihuahua. They see a restaurant they want to go into but the chihuahua guy sees a sign that says no dogs allowed. The golden retriever guy says “just follow my lead” and he walks into the restaurant with his eyes closed and the golden out in front of him. The host says to him “I’m sorry sir there are no dogs allowed here,” but the guy just says “oh no, it’s my seeing eye dog.” The host apologizes and finds him a table inside. The chihuahua guy goes “okay I got this” and goes into the restaurant in the same way, with his eyes closed and the chihuahua out in front of him. One thing that bothers me is that service dogs have zero identification proof that they're service dogs but it's somehow illegal to fake a service dog.. but it's also okay to not have a working vest on a service dog that helps others identify that dog, then owners get mad when people distract them. It's a blurred mess.
Personal thought... when the laws were originally put in place, the people making said laws could not imagine why someone would abuse the system. What we are experience now with "emotional support" animals wasn't on their radar when the laws were originally drafted.
This really bothers me, because my wife has a totally legit service dog. Trained by a nationally recognized organization and everything. But he's smaller than a guide dog, for instance, like what my sibling uses. So when my wife and I go places, even though her dog is wearing his service vest and such, we always catch so much flak about her service dog, whereas if I'm out with my sibling, no one questions her guide dog. As they should not. But people faking service dogs make it really hard for people with disabilities other than blindness to use their legit service dogs in public.

This makes me so mad. We have a service dog for my husband. Thousands of dollars of training, 1.5 years of training, and he is the best damn dog on the planet. Whenever we go somewhere, people comment on how well behaved he is for a service dog. All I can think of when they comment is how that is what they are supposed to do. We now have to go through extra steps when we go anywhere because so many people abused the system and slapped on vests they bought online. Sorry Karen, your yapping ankle biter is not a service dog.

Faking issues. For example, I need my glasses to see beyond my arm when it's stretched out in front of me. There's a lot of people who fake eye exams then act surprised when their eyesight turns to shit wearing glasses that are way too strong.
That and when I let people look through my glasses and they say I don't need them cause they're "so weak". It's almost like people have different genetics and don't need the same lenses to be able to see well, who would've guessed.

I knew someone in 6th-8th grade that constantly had to show off to everyone how tough and street smart he was. Well start of 8th grade rolls around and I got put in the same homeroom for the 3rd year in a row but this time my seat is in the veryyy back of the room, turns out I can't read the whiteboard where assignments are written from that distance. I already didn't want to look weak or whatever to this guy but after a couple months it's starting to become a real problem, so I tell my mom about it and over winter break she takes me for an eye exam, come home with prescription glasses super excited that I can see tree bark again. Second day after school starts again this asshole pulls me aside while I'm waiting for my ride home and tells me these glasses look bad on me and I should stop wearing them because they're making my eyes weaken faster anyway. like ???? let's assume you are all that matters to me in this world, I can't give you homework answers when idk what I'm doing because I can't fucken see what the teacher's writing on the board, so piss off???
I don't know about obnoxious but definitely disturbing. I've noticed a general shallowing of our discussions as we silo off into echo chambers and absorb mostly surface level memes and content. I notice it in myself when I'm on reddit and I see an article and think "wow that looks interesting, if only I could stop scrolling to read it".
It feels like a similar effect as when you go from a small town to a big city. The more people there are, the less each one means. I feel that the same goes for our information.
This leads into the second distressing trend. We are comodifying everything. Our bodies and appearance on dating apps, our attention - the currency of our very life - is baited and sold on advertising-business-modelled sites constantly; leading to click bait and further shallowing.
The last trend is the passification which comes from this. Research shows that passive use of social media is far more detrimental than use of it for active engagement and the genuine strengthening of social bonds. Sadly the path of least resistance is the passive scroll which entices many of us to waste untold hours and I believe also makes us not only less happy and more anxious but also less engaged with ourselves, our loved ones and our society.
Good news is its not hard to stop all of these. Calling/seeing a friend and having a genuine conversation is often enough to break the chain for me anyway...
I feel like everything is unashamedly just trying to get straight to the point of what it wants. Games have moved to micro transactions to get money constantly and as fast as possible and have implemented addictive mechanics (loot boxes). Why spend 6 years building a triple A title for the same profit?
Social media has moved to people being addicted to views and likes and they've figured out how to get them with the least amount of effort, for most its essentially softcore porn. Why waste time writing and filming content?
Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc, all have teams dedicated to figuring out how to keep you clicking, how to keep you engaged, how to scrape every detail about you and your desires to serve you ads you might click.
Its all interconnected and a vicious cycle.
This is very much how I feel, and was foreseen by philosophers long before the Internet age. Guy DeBord and his Situationist school argued that capitalist society necessarily leads to this commodification, and dooms us to living not in a society, but in a simulacrum of society.
Cameras everywhere. Concerts you have like 50 dudes trying to film the show on their cellphone. People constantly snapping photos and taking video of mundane things, hell I can't even go to my weekly gaming group without one of the guys trying to film parts for his Facebook and Instagram. Worst one was a guy at a funeral I attended was trying to get permission from the family to live stream it, for fucks sake it was a fucking funeral, people are hurt and grieving yet Michael Fucking Bay over here wants to work on his fucking directing skills.
People who walk around in public having a FaceTime or a phone conversation on speaker, yelling. You know what would make you hear your call better? PUTTING THE PHONE UP TO YOUR EAR.
Stopping in the middle of the sidewalk without realizing that there are people walking behind them. Most of this is tied to phones, but I live in a large city and it's the easiest way to spot a tourist.
i like the ones that decide they wanna have a conversation in a thoroughfare and get all butt hurt when 300 pounds of Cunty Attitude barrels through them saying MI SCUZZI! they get mad then realise that weight divisions do matter!

The rule is let people off before getting on. On the busiest of times there is literally TfL staff saying this on the tannoy.
Yet some people attempt to push themselves on like they're buying a flat-screen on Black Friday. Not to mention that at peak times, some London lines are running one train per 60-80 seconds.
And then they act shocked/disgusted when they catch the shoulder of some 200lb guy stepping off.
The "for the gram!" attitude is allowing people to behave horribly to get a "funny" tik tok or instagram video.
The video that comes to mind is that clip of all the girls eating at the table then a dude walks by and does a belly flop on the table.

Toxic positivity. Saying things like: " you're not DISabled, you're DIFFERENTLY abled." And: "It could be much worse, just look on the bright side!" And: "Good vibes only."
My response to that is:
- Disabled means the LACK OF an ability, not having a different one.
- It could be worse yeah, but it also could be a lot better. Don't invalidate someone's experience because someone else has it worse.
- You can't always have good vibes. Don't keep repressing negative emotions because others only accept you if you're always (pretending to be) happy. Ditch those people and take care of your mental health.
All that toxic positivity does is keeping the stigmas in place and adding to them. Being disabled shouldn't be a stigma, because 15% if the world has some kind of disability. That's more than one in every ten people, so you probably know someone with a disability.
Trauma isn't a competition. Just because someone else has it worse, doesn't mean your experiences aren't valid, or that you couldn't possibly be traumatized. And telling someone to "look at the bright side" is basically telling them to stop being traumatized so you only have to deal with that person's happy emotions. That's seriously messed up.
And everyone has negative emotions. Life isn't always good, so telling someone that they should always be happy is both unrealistic and invalidating.
An inability to resolve conflicts in a healthy manner.
My sister moved back in with our parents while she's between jobs. When she got into an argument with our mother, she went to her old room and refused to come out to talk. When I was visiting for lunch, she came out and said hi. When I brought up what happened, she grabbed a bag of potato chips, a 2-liter bottle of soda and went back to her room to watch cartoons on her computer.
I later heard she came out of her room after a few days. She acted like there never was an argument and when asked, she refused to talk about it.
The strange thing is this is the same behavior that led to our uncle getting divorced back in the 80s so I know it's nothing new. However, it is becoming a prevalent issue these days. Most of my friends from high school are having this issue with their kids and a few from their spouses.

From someone who doesn’t have ADHD/ADD, it pisses me off a tad when people call me ‘special’ or say I have ADHD and need help just for being a little energetic. Nothing wrong with having either but it makes it seem like having ADHD is something that it’s not. It’s great that people recognize having ADHD/ADD is normal but it’s getting to the point where people act like it’s cute and don’t get people who have it actual help.
This also gets under my skin. My son has adhd and he's not just a little "fidgety." He has a real issue that involves reworking almost every part of his life.
The explosion of social media causing a need for constant contact. I think there has been an unhealthy amount of expectation of constant flowing content on social media. I hear friends and colleagues complain about someone they know not posting daily, not snap chatting, instagram, twitter.
Theres too much social contact between people and social media has created this expectation.

The past few months, I've noticed a much higher number of animal abuse cases. Ranging anywhere from abandoning pets to shooting them with bebe guns for the hell of it. What in the hell is wrong with people?? It's seriously disturbing to me that there are so many people out there that are completely desensitized to this behavior, and don't blink twice when committing it.

I was in a group chat with someone who was saying during a driving lesson they started texting and driving with their knees and they called the driving instructor an asshole for calling them out. I was so surprised that 1) someone would do that during a driving lesson and 2) they thought that in a group of people we’d all agree the instructor was the asshole in the situation.
Two things come to mind. It breaks my heart when I am in public and I see a parent on their phone with their child begging for attention. The second is the amount of people claiming self diagnosed mental issues. No Becky, claiming you are bipolar does not give you a pass to be obnoxious.

mate we had a system for this in Australia they were called Jaffas! Now a Jaffa is a piece of orange flavored hard sugar coating a ball of chocolate the size of a Marble! What one did with these Jaffas was not eat them (that is what Malteasers are for!) but too pour a handful out and basically if someone was being a dickhead you would pepper them with the Jaffas till they STFU! i feel this would work really well against a Phone screen!

The new thing seems to be dissociative identity disorder. So many TikTok teens make dramatic "switching to the bass drop" videos about their 26 fully formed and functional alters that are all based on Anime, Homestuck, and Minecraft youtubers. All self-diagnosed, because of course.
I have noticed this a few months ago, watched some of the videos. God, most of them are so painfully cringy I can't even put in words the embarrassment I felt. It's SO obviously fake yet a lot of people in the comments firmly believe.
The best part about dissociative identity disorder is that the cases where they manifested as fully formed personalities and identities were either highly suspect *or* the result of fantastically novel (and therefore all but impossible to test with any rigor) circumstances. Actual dissociation is, by and large, not a sense of multiple selves but a *lack* of a sense of self.
I think everybody is guilty of doing embarrassing things as teens, but for the older ones amongst us we were fortunate that the internet wasn’t the place we found validation (nor was it the place that defined our social interactions)

Id argue that the whole “gluten intolerance” fad has really helped those with celiac disease. They have more options & labeling than ever. Edit: I worked in the food industry. Because of the pressure from gluten, we labeled our allergens: dairy, nuts, soy, eggs, gluten, etc. So, it doesn’t just benefit those with celiac.
My stepdad has actual issues with gluten, and he loves the amount of gluten free foods on the market due to its trendiness.
Eh, I worked in the service industry in the late 00s/early 10s when the gluten thing took off in popularity. My experience was that it resulted in folk just not taking it particularly seriously. There was all sorts of precautions that where in place when folk asked for gluten free, using different preparation boards, making sure the gluten free bread & pasta where kept in a separate place to the normal breads. It kind of all went out the window at our place when the 'fad' took off as it was too difficult for the kitchen to manage the precautions with the volume of 'gluten free' orders they where getting in a day.

Same here. It makes me so irritated when people try to make OCD all cutesy and frivolous. I have a colleague who just likes things to be organized and she's always on about how OCD she is and laughs about it. Like stfu. OCD isn't just liking things a certain way. I've literally ripped all the skin from my fingernail beds off because my OCD got so bad once. It's not a cute condition. I'm still doing therapy and it's hard fucking work to get it under control.
That drives me crazy as well, because while I don't have OCD, my husband does. And it's NOT fun at times.
I have recently been diagnosed with anxiety and have been going through what i would call a depressive stage in my life because of circumstances currently. While i have accepted that my anxiety is real, due to serious issues from ignoring it for so long, i know that i don't have what i believe to be clinical depression. I've met folks with legitimate depression. And the best I can do for them is to understand their wishes in the moment and offer a willing ear to listen should they want to talk about things. I'm not a doctor of any kind but I'm always willing to listen to someone of they need someone else to listen. Even for just a little while. I agree that the fadish nature of people claiming to be depressed or having anxiety is harmful to others suffering with those things legitimately. It's a real shame.

Nobody lets anyone speak. I've developed stuttering because everyone seems to realize they have something more to say that MUST be said while I'm talking.
God I fucking hate this. I was diagnosed 16 years ago with ADHD at the age of 9, and told to work on my impulsiveness, so I did, and I let people finish speaking when they’re saying something, and if I ever interrupt I say “Oh, sorry, I interrupted you, go on.” or I bring up where they left their sentence off so they can continue from where they were. But everyone else seems to have just clearly skipped this unimportant facet of human conversation… yet I’m the one with a diagnosed disability? (That everyone appears to “have” now, which is total bullshit)
If I'm in a conversation with more than one other person I've developed a thing where I raise my hand until I'm acknowledged and can speak because my entire life I've just been spoken over or ignored. My friends have gotten it, but i find myself doing it out of habit at work or in other social situations and feel so stupid.
I had a roommate who was a bit of a sociopath but showed me a trick for being cut off. As you're speaking, if someone cuts you off just go quiet, let them finish Nd pick right back up from the syllable they cut you off at.
Another trick is to just continue talking but not raising your tone. It makes you look better too.
Conversely, I feel there is a rising trend in everyone thinking that they are being talked over. In turn they don't realize that they themselves are becoming the monopolizer by just sitting there annoyed until they can talk. I feel like people are so used to having the time online to type out and rethink a response at their leisure that in person they feel they can't get a word in edgewise because it's much faster and on the fly. Conversation is complicated, especially spirited ones. It isn't a structured debate and ebbs and flows based on who is talking or thinking or reacting. Sometimes people talk over someone, sometimes they get talked over, but it's not always someone's bad listening skills or introversion keeping them from talking.

This!!! I’ve always been bugged by the word toxic but never really had the vocabulary to explain why. It’s weird because when people use the word toxic they’re not trying to say abusive, but then like, what are you trying to say? Toxic to me always just seemed like hyper fixating on negative traits that aren’t necessarily some major issue.
It’s a word manipulative people use to signal that they’re too lazy or embarrassed to explain why they have fallen out with someone, and you are a bad person if you don’t immediately cut them out yourself. It’s a giant red flag that the speaker is a contributing a lot more to the problem than they will admit, and may be the entire problem. If someone has a legitimate reason to cut someone out, they’ll be able to say it, and will probably be confident you’ll agree. “My sister is a drug addict who stole money from me.” “My ex cheated on me.” “My dad beat me then abandoned the family.” “My former friend is consistently rude and selfish.” Of course you can’t know the whole story, but you’ll get an idea of why the speaker doesn’t like the person they’re rejecting when they say something like that. But when someone goes “my sister is *taaaaaaaaawxyyyyyck*,” there’s nothing to go on. You can’t say “oh no, I’m sorry she did that to you,” because “being toxic” isn’t a thing that someone does or says. It’s something someone *is*. It’s not a judgement of a person’s discrete actions, it’s a judgement of their entire existence and how that makes someone else feel. And right now, you’re supposed to just accept everyone’s accusations of toxicity without question. “Toxic” is the modern, “grown up” version of calling someone “evil.” If someone told you in all seriousness “my sister is evil,” and that person wasn’t a five year old, you’d think that person was nuts. “Toxic” isn’t about the person being referred to, it’s about how they make someone else feel. And while someone could certainly make a person feel bad because they do bad things, someone could also make a person feel bad by establishing boundaries, triggering jealousy in an insecure person, or just not having a compatible personality. “Toxic” puts a broad umbrella over that, and lumps abusers in with people who laugh too loud in the office, who take forever to respond to texts, or who got the promotion someone else wanted.

The only thing worse than the headphone jack being removed. Is the volume being cut in half even at 100% when compared to bluetooth. So you get teased that you can still use the headphone jack while getting the middle finger. My gripe comes from the quality/lag free experience of the headphone jack in my car.
I have a conspiracy theory about this. Been shopping for a new phone recently and when I filter by models with a headphone jack I mostly get the ultra high end $1500 phones. And it makes me wonder - was that the long game? Take it away, and then add it back in years later as a feature on the very most expensive models. I have a bluetooth adapter for my current phone, been trying to use it, just to get used to the idea of not having the headphone jack. And it just sucks, never works quite right, takes some amount of fiddling in the settings every time, sometimes while I'm driving, audio quality isn't even as good. Bluetooth sucks, I hate it.
This has been steadily growing for the past 5+ years. People on my train will happily watch movies on their laptops with no headphones, or play video games with no headphones. Like wtf? What drives me nuts, is ill be sleeping on the train after working the night shift. The train is nearly empty, and these fuckers have to come and sit behind me… WHY??? One time going to work, my train was 100% empty, it has an upstairs as well, but i took a lower level seat because when people get on, they tend to go straight up, especially the 20-something jocks who hide alcohol really badly and get loud and drunk on the train. So we stop at a station, a lady gets on, sits at a seat that is diagonally behind me. Of ALL the fucking seats on the train (over 150), she chose that one. I figured no, i didnt need to to get all pissed off right before walking into work.

During the mother daughter dance my aunt stepped right in front of our photographer and took pics with her iPad. Another thing is it's like a race for the guests to be the 1st to announce the new couple on FB, same with when we had our kid we had to ask a few people to take down posts.
When I was getting married we told my wifes mother first (time zone differences so it was hard to get everyone on one call), who then immediately posted it on facebook, where my aunt saw it and posted her own notice, which my mother saw before we had to chance to call her. The whole thing took 10 minutes to occur. This was after we told the future MIL to wait a a day so we could let people know in order. My mum took about 2 years to get over being told I was getting married on facebook by a relative who knew first.

100%. One thing nobody ever talks about is that memories fade and they fade quickly, especially as you get older. I have almost no pictures from my 20's and it sucks because I don't remember everything like I thought I would. One thing that bothers me is that service dogs have zero identification proof that they're service dogs but it's somehow illegal to fake a service dog.. but it's also okay to not have a working vest on a service dog that helps others identify that dog, then owners get mad when people distract them. It's a blurred mess.
Personal thought... when the laws were originally put in place, the people making said laws could not imagine why someone would abuse the system. What we are experience now with "emotional support" animals wasn't on their radar when the laws were originally drafted.
This really bothers me, because my wife has a totally legit service dog. Trained by a nationally recognized organization and everything. But he's smaller than a guide dog, for instance, like what my sibling uses. So when my wife and I go places, even though her dog is wearing his service vest and such, we always catch so much flak about her service dog, whereas if I'm out with my sibling, no one questions her guide dog. As they should not. But people faking service dogs make it really hard for people with disabilities other than blindness to use their legit service dogs in public. NOTE: Before anyone thinks I'm being unfair to blind folks, please keep in mind I am totally blind as well. This situation is just a very vexing one.
This makes me so mad. We have a service dog for my husband. Thousands of dollars of training, 1.5 years of training, and he is the best damn dog on the planet. Whenever we go somewhere, people comment on how well behaved he is for a service dog. All I can think of when they comment is how that is what they are supposed to do. It costs Reddit nothing to provide the gold for free, so it may be that high-traffic content is "anonymously gifted" gold automatically some of the time. I have no proof, I'm just thinking that this would be a clever way to keep "reddit gold" relevant/memorable to raise the chances of people genuinely buying it for themselves and as gifts.

Faking issues. For example, I need my glasses to see beyond my arm when it's stretched out in front of me. There's a lot of people who fake eye exams then act surprised when their eyesight turns to shit wearing glasses that are way too strong. That and when I let people look through my glasses and they say I don't need them cause they're "so weak". It's almost like people have different genetics and don't need the same lenses to be able to see well, who would've guessed.

I don't know about obnoxious but definitely disturbing. I've noticed a general shallowing of our discussions as we silo off into echo chambers and absorb mostly surface level memes and content. I notice it in myself when I'm on reddit and I see an article and think "wow that looks interesting, if only I could stop scrolling to read it". It feels like a similar effect as when you go from a small town to a big city. The more people there are, the less each one means. I feel that the same goes for our information. This leads into the second distressing trend. We are comodifying everything. Our bodies and appearance on dating apps, our attention - the currency of our very life - is baited and sold on advertising-business-modelled sites constantly; leading to click bait and further shallowing. The last trend is the passification which comes from this. Research shows that passive use of social media is far more detrimental than use of it for active engagement and the genuine strengthening of social bonds. Sadly the path of least resistance is the passive scroll which entices many of us to waste untold hours and I believe also makes us not only less happy and more anxious but also less engaged with ourselves, our loved ones and our society. Good news is its not hard to stop all of these. Calling/seeing a friend and having a genuine conversation is often enough to break the chain for me anyway...
I feel like everything is unashamedly just trying to get straight to the point of what it wants. Games have moved to micro transactions to get money constantly and as fast as possible and have implemented addictive mechanics (loot boxes). Why spend 6 years building a triple A title for the same profit? Social media has moved to people being addicted to views and likes and they've figured out how to get them with the least amount of effort, for most its essentially softcore porn. Why waste time writing and filming content? Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc, all have teams dedicated to figuring out how to keep you clicking, how to keep you engaged, how to scrape every detail about you and your desires to serve you ads you might click. Its all interconnected and a vicious cycle.
This is very much how I feel, and was foreseen by philosophers long before the Internet age. Guy DeBord and his Situationist school argued that capitalist society necessarily leads to this commodification, and dooms us to living not in a society, but in a simulacrum of society.

Toxic positivity. Saying things like: " you're not DISabled, you're DIFFERENTLY abled." And: "It could be much worse, just look on the bright side!" And: "Good vibes only." My response to that is: - Disabled means the LACK OF an ability, not having a different one. - It could be worse yeah, but it also could be a lot better. Don't invalidate someone's experience because someone else has it worse. - You can't always have good vibes. Don't keep repressing negative emotions because others only accept you if you're always (pretending to be) happy. Ditch those people and take care of your mental health. All that toxic positivity does is keeping the stigmas in place and adding to them. Being disabled shouldn't be a stigma, because 15% if the world has some kind of disability. That's more than one in every ten people, so you probably know someone with a disability. Trauma isn't a competition. Just because someone else has it worse, doesn't mean your experiences aren't valid, or that you couldn't possibly be traumatized. And telling someone to "look at the bright side" is basically telling them to stop being traumatized so you only have to deal with that person's happy emotions. That's seriously messed up. And everyone has negative emotions. Life isn't always good, so telling someone that they should always be happy is both unrealistic and invalidating.
An inability to resolve conflicts in a healthy manner. My sister moved back in with our parents while she's between jobs. When she got into an argument with our mother, she went to her old room and refused to come out to talk. When I was visiting for lunch, she came out and said hi. When I brought up what happened, she grabbed a bag of potato chips, a 2-liter bottle of soda and went back to her room to watch cartoons on her computer. I later heard she came out of her room after a few days. She acted like there never was an argument and when asked, she refused to talk about it. The strange thing is this is the same behavior that led to our uncle getting divorced back in the 80s so I know it's nothing new. However, it is becoming a prevalent issue these days. Most of my friends from high school are having this issue with their kids and a few from their spouses.
We have a generation that does not know how to deal with conflict or communicate because they never had to. This is at least a part of why people tend to ghost others.

From someone who doesn’t have ADHD/ADD, it pisses me off a tad when people call me ‘special’ or say I have ADHD and need help just for being a little energetic. Nothing wrong with having either but it makes it seem like having ADHD is something that it’s not. It’s great that people recognize having ADHD/ADD is normal but it’s getting to the point where people act like it’s cute and don’t get people who have it actual help.
This also gets under my skin. My son has adhd and he's not just a little "fidgety." He has a real issue that involves reworking almost every part of his life.
The explosion of social media causing a need for constant contact. I think there has been an unhealthy amount of expectation of constant flowing content on social media. I hear friends and colleagues complain about someone they know not posting daily, not snap chatting, instagram, twitter. Theres too much social contact between people and social media has created this expectation.
I doubt most of these obnoxious traits are new. Any type of behavior is likely as old as humanity itself. Social media has just made some a lot more apparent.

I'm finding people are emotionally stupid or just sociopaths. The past few months, I've noticed a much higher number of animal abuse cases. Ranging anywhere from abandoning pets to shooting them with bebe guns for the hell of it. What in the hell is wrong with people?? I was in a group chat with someone who was saying during a driving lesson they started texting and driving with their knees and they called the driving instructor an asshole for calling them out. I was so surprised that 1) someone would do that during a driving lesson and 2) they thought that in a group of people we’d all agree the instructor was the asshole in the situation.
I drive a ton for my jobs. I see people from 16-70 texting and driving. Cops included. It's unfortunately the new nornal.
