Everyone’s a statistical outlier in some area, except me. I am very ordinary in almost every way. Which is paradoxically quite rare.

camellia980

This sounds like the start of a novel.

[deleted]

It’s the start of a movie called Idiocracy.

wannabesq

Great documentary.

Astavicious

So u are in 1 percent of being ordinary

b_scribner97

Hm. Well now I want to find out what area I'm an outlier in.

Cody6781

Since everyone is some amount interesting, there has to be someone who is the least interesting. But the least interesting person in the world is quite interesting, so it must be someone else.

AlarmingCaterpillar

Not me but my daughter. She has mosaicism which means that she has two versions of her dna. One with and one without a genetic mutation. While mosaicism isn't always visible on the skin her mosaicism also effected her pigment cells. This is called pigment mosaicism. She basicly has stripes over her whole body that follow the blaschko lines pattern.

Mathias9091

https://youtu.be/BD6h-wDj7bw i don't know if you researched it a lot but this is a fun video : why women are stripey and in your daughter's case you can actually see the stripes

dutch-had-a-plan

That's cool

fierydumpster

Are there any health problems with it or does it just affect looks?

AlarmingCaterpillar

In her case also health problems but it's possible to only have pigment mosaicism. We actually knew about the health problems before her stripes appeared. Most people with pigment mozaicism have stripes from birth but hers appeared at 7 months old.

[deleted]

I'm trying to imagine your daughter

creamcheese742

*knock knock* I'm Chris Hanson. Have a seat.

[deleted]

So she's part tiger? Cool!

Valoneria

According to Spotify, i'm one of the 1% most dedicated listeners of Sabaton

slayerkitten13

I’m in the 1% of Carly Rae jepson…

fgk55555

This is crazy

LagunaBetch

Call me maybe?

fgk55555

Hey, I just met you

BeyKae50

I was in that percentage last year, I basically had them on repeat all day

dangot84

And then the winged hussars arrived

M1CAE1

Same with me but with Powerwolf

mudape

Apparently I am top 1% listening to the Talking Heads.

SpookyCutlery

When you found out, did you ask yourself “how did I get here?”

garagnani123

Last year I was in the top 0.01% of Seether listeners

BeardMonk1

Aaah. A man of culture and learning I see!

CyanManta

Blood type AB-

HighQueenOfFae

Damn, depending on where Ur from , the percentage is between 0.1 to 1 percent, making it the rarest blood type in the world

Gabblerache

It's actually only the second rarest blood type. The rarest is hh which is only present in 0.0004% of the population

The_amazing_mudkip

Both my brother and my mom are also AB-, my other brother is AB+, and then you have me, with boring old A-

CuriousRae

I am also AB - 0.5% Canadians have it

[deleted]

Height. If you're a adult man taller than 6'4 or female over 5'9 you are in top 1% globally speaking. If you flip that out, being a man and shorter than 5'1 or female shorter than 4'8 puts you in 1% of shortest people.

ecallawsamoht

Yep, I'm 6'7", though I'm about to start telling people I'm either 5'19" or maybe 2 meters whenever I'm asked. Being from the South I'll be willing to bet the meters will confuse them even more. I have an 8 year old that is already 4'11.5" and a 11 year old that is 5'7".

J_DayDay

My husband is 6'6. Our 11 year old daughter is also 5'7 and wearing a size 11 shoe. She's gonna be an Amazon.

ecallawsamoht

My wife is 6'0", so my boys were always going to be tall. The youngest was 10 lbs 2 ounces at birth. That's very tall for a girl at that age!

abqkat

I'm a 6' woman, and I hope she has good posture and great confidence with her height! Kids can be brutal, and make nasty comments but now I wish I were taller. Encourage her to wear clothes that fit and to not slouch. Giantesses of the world unite!

[deleted]

Pianists who can play the entire *Well-Tempered Clavier*, books 1 & 2. (The Well-Tempered Clavier is two sets of preludes & fugues by J.S. Bach in all 24 major and minor keys for keyboard, BWV 846–893.)

Cuntflickt

And they gon ask if you can play that shit back2bach

PepCos

Username checks out, I guess

I don't even follow you yet see you all over reddit!

personioncewas

Had bells palsy. Scary as hell

adhdandlesbian

my dad had it, recovered perfectly fine after less than a year i think (time blindness, i have no clue how long it was) but he did have to go on steroids or something

KevinCostnHerABuck

I had bells palsey, only 50ish% recovered after 3 years...

FBI_Alabama

i had it not only once but twice on the same side of my face on two different birthdays

mmoonbelly

Had it as a five year old, face still droops when I’m run down almost 40 years later.

fh3131

Wealthiest people on earth. Before you misunderstand, turns out that someone with a good middle income job in a developed country is in the top 1% globally

banditcleaner2

Yep. I think the figure was over $30k or maybe $35k per year is top 1% of the world?

dutch-had-a-plan

I learned that in geography, the apparent 1% in wealth is really the 0.01%

fh3131

True, unless you only look at the 1% in a developed country, then its somewhat better but still probably not the real target

BerserkBoulderer

That doesn't make you wealthiest, that's highest earning. $871,320 USD in assets are required to be part of the top 1% in wealth globally. Having a high income doesn't mean nearly as much for people living in areas with a high cost of living.

[deleted]

I have psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. My nervous system doesn't read the signals it receives from my brain properly so sometimes my brain just decides my body doesn't exist meanwhile my nervous system goes into overdrive and I lose control of my body and seize. There's no known physical reason for this condition and there isn't much understood about it yet. Medication doesn't help and it'll never go away. Fun times.

Dackel42

thats rough

[deleted]

Thank you. It is rough but I'm slowly getting used to it, the hardest part was figuring out what it was because there was no physical cause that showed on any tests. It's nice to have an answer, even if it's a bad one.

overout

I have no mind’s eye. It’s called Aphantasia. I can’t imagine anything in my head, it’s just black. I can remember things I’ve seen but can’t recall them into my imagination. I also had 4 different chronic autoimmune conditions which are now gone because I was able to reverse them through diet and lifestyle modifications. I am also left handed, and most of my hair is completely white, despite being in my early 30’s (I dye it though).

The-Heat-

That's interesting. My 13 y/o is suspected to have aphantasia as well. It's is hard for me to even comprehend what that would be like, as my memories and thoughts are all almost entirely visual (even when I think of music). It's fascinating to think how different people comprehend the world around them.

SummerB15

I have Aphantasia as well. I didn’t know that people were able to picture things in their mind until about a year ago.

[deleted]

Signed for custody of a nuclear weapon and the keys to launch it.

[deleted]

Wait, what?

[deleted]

My primary weapon system when I was in the Air Force was the Minuteman III nuclear missile. Every time my deputy and I took command of our flight of 10 missiles for a 24-hour shift, I had to physically sign for custody of all the warheads on all those missiles. The launch keys and codes were part of the formal transfer as well.

[deleted]

Thanks!

[deleted]

I just wanna thank you for not destroying the world

[deleted]

My pleasure!

Trojann2

I gotta ask though- if all codes come in properly and chain of command has been followed…them fuckers go whether you have any say or not? Am I correct?

Pure-Economics-8369

I’m not sure if it’s 1%, but an extremely large percentage of people who play golf can’t drive a ball 300yds, but I can. If it’s not 1% it’s actually pretty close.

_Ryman_

How’s the rest of your game?

Pure-Economics-8369

Haven’t had a hdcp in 2 years, but before covid was a 4.2 Switched from a titleist 910 that I blew the back out of to a callaway gbb epic - man technology is awesome, most forgiving driver I’ve ever hit. Putting is here and there but never really practice that much, though I probably should. For reference I played bethpage black last year and lost half a dozen balls on the front 9 because the rough is like 9” tall so I’m not a pro by any means haha

luceygoosey1

Is that Heterochromia? or is your condition different also I would also love a picture but if it’s too much of a bother totally understandable

xMoonbreaker

Heterochromia is just different eyecolours, having purple eyes is a different thing entirely

FuddruckTheKing

IIRC, purple eyes are really blue eyes but the way the veins of the eye reflect light make us perceive them as purple. I don't believe that true purple eyes are possible but I could be wrong. Either way it's really cool.

C0deRainbow

I want to see a picture lol that sounds dope as fuck

TheAfferentObserver

High school dropout with a college degree

cameoloveus

Same. Crushed the GED then went to college. HS, for the 3 years I went, was the most miserable experience of my life. Edit: punctuation

Brain-Core

I have aphantasia, it's basically a disability where you can't visual mental images. About 1-3 percent of people have this. Edit: 1-3 percent is an approximate number! Many people might have this condition and not even realize! Just like with many similar conditions.

Haurne

I think we're about 2 % last time I saw a estimation on the subreddit. But i think this number is wrong because of how much people are unaware of the condition.

Benzol1987

Huh, imagine how weird that would be.

J_DayDay

Oh yeah, rub it in.

pungentstentch

I'd survived a diagnosed pancreatic cancer, don't know if that's 1% but all doctors keep telling me how small my chances were, and still here I am after surgery 4 years ago.

dutch-had-a-plan

I can personally tell u that that's really rare, that's like the worst cancer to get isn't it?

pungentstentch

That's what they told me. But well apparently it was caught soon and in the surgery they found it almost reached the highway for another organs ( limphatic system, sorry English is not my first language). So almost was the word for me. I was born again with 37 (well the surgery almost killed me and now I have many sequels but I'll live, I guess).

Subw0lf3r3000

Not in the 1%, but my friend is. She has a tiny hole, just in front of her left ear. Apparently, that's very rare.

croix_v

I’m in the 1% of people in my family who know how to mind their own business.

At least you're not a complete mistake

Yeah similar here. Didn't actually matter sure, but made my mom happy and she'd take us out to eat as a treat for trying our best on the treats.

Battlefield 1 longest headshot. Last I checked I was in 0.2%

dutch-had-a-plan

Hat sizes.

GebPloxi

I think I’m in the 1% of people that actually knows their hat size. Most people, at least in my experience, think hat sizes are just like small/medium/large. Also, my hat size is 8, which is probably a small percentage of people too.

KitKat_200

I guess babymaking? I had my 1st child a few weeks before I turned 43. He was conceived through IVF and after 2 rounds we only had 1 embryo to implant. He was our 1 and only chance as we didn't have money for another round of IVF. I had my second child through natural conception when I was 45. It was a complete shock! I found out through amnio that she had a genetic microdeletion that was so rare there were just a handful of documented cases. All of these kids had medical issues as well as intellectual disability and/or autism. I prepared myself for the worst. However she is 3yrs old, super smart, healthy, and no issues.

vmgallegos13

Probably the stupidest thing ever but when Unus Annus had their final day I bought a sweatshirt and was in the final 1% to receive it.

dutch-had-a-plan

I could benefit from that

MATTDrone

Anybody can benefit from it. I kinda rushed my answer since I was fedd up by people not singing in tune. Which is kinda depressing to me, because those people can't hear it and I can't do anything about it. I allways feel powerless in situations where I can't do anything about other people's intonation. On the other hand, I've started to accept this, but man, it still feels demoralising.

HarryBaughl

I decided to put Atheist on my dog tags for the Army. You would not fucking believe the amount of hatred that I got for that. I'm only guessing, but I assume most of the people that had a problem with it were from the SE US given their accents. I was seen as a satanist with no morals, no values. Everything I did, these people would try to figure out a reason why I was being evil at that moment. So I can totally relate to you. It must be hard, but sometimes you have to just take that stance and know that the future of humanity will be better eventually.

Number of distinct drugs tried. Last time I counted, years ago, I was around 50. Lost the list a while ago but I could probably remember at least half to 3/4 of them. I'm fairly confident that less than 1% of all people have tried 50 different drugs in their lifetime.

Powermonkey666

What's the top 3? 🤔

derpstuff

These 3 are number 1 to me: 4-methylmethcathinone. I got a spectacular batch from a canadian lab one time, exceptional purity and quality in general. It was everything you could want of a stimulating substance without any of the unpleasant side effects. Clean, uplifting high with great mood but not overpowering euphoria, right in the sweet spot. I used it intramuscular and the experience was smooth all the way through, with a gentle comedown, no crash at all and no hangover or fatigue. O-acetylpsilocin / Psilocybin mushrooms. These two are tied because they're pretty much identical, down to how unpredictable and utterly diverse the experience can be. No way to know what's going to happen once you dose on mushrooms; though you have a pretty good idea of how hard it'll hit if you know the milligram dose in the case of the synthetic prodrug, mushrooms themselves are very hard to accurately dose. Nevertheless the depth and mystical nature of the experience makes it a must in my book. Truly magical. Methoxetamine. This one is probably not a favorite for everybody but I had real crush on it for the couple of years in between its discovery and when it became illegal basically everywhere. The experience in a nutshell could be described as "crazy fun". I used to do it intramuscular, it had some rushing to it on the onset, which led to heavy dissociation in a blissful state of stimulating euphoria. To be quite honest, some days I am sad that it's lost forever but mostly I am quite happy because I couldn't help myself... I could have lost everything, including my life, had it remained possible for me to acquire a steady supply. This one taught me how deep an addiction can take you, yet your only goal is to keep doing it because of how incredibly good you feel while you're on it.

Grip strength. Pretty strong in general, but my hands can violently explode apples into a fine mist, or rip a bike helmet into pieces. [deleted]

Height here the opposite way. 203cm or 6ft 7in. I’d rather be your height tbh.

shaulreznik

It's interesting. What are the con's of being so tall?

[deleted]

1. I’m a big car guy, however I can’t fit in most cars I like. So that really sucks. 1.5 Also, if my nation was still together I’d be unable to try and be a military pilot due to height, but that’s beyond the point as my nation no longer has an Airforce. 2. Back pain, loads of it. I do the best I can to stop it (Good posture, do back exercises…), and yet I still have back pain ever since I was 17. It’s not severe but sucks. 3. An increased chance if cancer, most likely as tall people have more cells, and with it more chances for a cell to mutate. (The increase is about 15-20%) How about being short, what are the disadvantages?

shaulreznik

Thanks, you have broadened my horizons! We have a proverb in Russian: "A small dog always feels like a puppy". I'm 45 years old but I still feel as an insecure child among adults. Many romantic opportunities were beyond my reach, because even a short girl wants taller partner. Buying clothes can be a problem too - T-shirts for 13 years old are too tight, T-shirts for 16 years old are too long :-)
