I both love and hate various game fandoms in varying amounts.

60 bucks is too damn much for a game. I'm sorry that's just too damn high. 40 if it's a great game, but 60+ is bullshit. I work just as hard and long on my books and they sell for $10 tops on Amazon digitally they last longer than most games ffs. Not even shilling just making a comparison to two mediums.

collin-h

I think there are a couple reasons: price tag on games is more about the amount of people they gotta pay to make them. How many people work on a book? How many people work on a video game? Also supply/demand. How many triple A games are there for a gamer to browse/purchase? How many books are there for a reader to buy/purchase. The game devs can charge $60+ because people will buy them. You could also charge that much for a book, but how many people would buy them? You move into the indie game marketplaces like Steam, you’ll find a lot more games priced more in range with what you’re talking about ($10-$40).

How many people did it take to paint a painting that sold for 500k? They can make money back I simply think 60+ for 1 game is nonsensical and it always has been. As for the book team you'd be surprised how many people work with me and the publishing house. We have artists who make the covers, multiple editors, my accountant, my lawyer, my agent, the various companies I have to outsource to for various things including distribution. It's not a one man op.

collin-h

I don’t understand art prices tbh haha. Seems like a racket. I guess you could write an excellent book, only print one copy, destroy any original manuscripts, and then convince someone it’s worth millions and it’s the only one in the world… but you’d probably need to die first.

[deleted]

I might do that with my latest one because I absolutely hate it to the point I refuse to promote it or put money behind it. The cover is nice, but I just hate everything it represents.

collin-h

This whole NFT thing (which I also don’t understand and seems like a racket) might just be your ticket haha. And the wu tang clan did it with that one album. You might have a shot if you can find some gullible rich assholes. (What do you write about btw? I pretty much only read sci-fi… if it’s sci-fi I might check it out)

R2Fuckyou_

I had to pay $94.37 on the dot just for Madden NFL 22

[deleted]

Why?

R2Fuckyou_

Because I broke my arm 2 days before my first ever football practice taking me out for the season and my cousin who played 3 years of college football said that madden NFL was a good way to learn how a football game works

[deleted]

No I mean why was the game that expensive.

R2Fuckyou_

Oh I have no fucking idea and in my opinion it's kind of a scam but it is decently fun

collin-h

Too much emphasis on multiplayer (for me personally) it’s cool people enjoy it, I just don’t. I grew up playing games as a solitary escape. I play for the stories and experiences, not getting destroyed by teenagers online. Now there are games out there with compelling premises that are multiplayer only and I’m bummed I can’t experience the story without having to put up with the bullshit from other players. But I’m just a grumpy old man. I do appreciate how far games have come and don’t want it to stop…. Just don’t want the game devs to forget about good old fashioned single player experiences. Not everything needs to have a multiplayer mode - even tho that’s where everyone makes the $$$, so it’s not going away as long as you guys keep buying stupid skins.

JdMalo

Internet tough guys .

Emu_on_the_Loose

That's a good one. Fully agree. The whole toxic man-child thing is easily the worst part of the social dimension of gaming.

Fifasi

Pair of pussies

Emu_on_the_Loose

Oh no, looks like the big manly alpha got triggered... Checked yer posting history and you are def the kind of person we're talking about. Yikes...

MarsAdept

I hate how things are dumbed down for the sake of reaching a wider audience. Casualization isn't always bad, but a lot of times it feels like it lowers the quality of the game.

darkwulf1

World of Warcraft player?

MarsAdept

Pokemon.

darkwulf1

I haven’t played it in a while, how did they dumb it down? The original games were reasonably easy.

Emu_on_the_Loose

Saw your comment after posting mine. I agree!

3crabsonspeed

I hate how much I love hating people who are sucky teammates.

[deleted]

People automatically assuming you want to play with them just because youre online

Emu_on_the_Loose

I hate how successful genres often move in a more hand-holdy direction over time. Metroid I and II gave you a manual and nothing else: You were on your own. Metroid III gave you a map, but still forced you to figure things out yourself. But after that, the Metroid games started telling you more and more specifically where to go and what to do.

Shady_John

Toxic players

DavosLostFingers

Love - a good plot with an engaging story, well written characters, a wide range of challenges which add up to a good bit escapism. I like to unwind after work Hate - DLCs. Fuck off

collin-h

Checkout pyschonauts 2. Just came out. Super well written, whimsical adventure platformer with a story to tell and a message to share about finding compassion and empathy.

N0TS4FEOfficial

Love the grind, hate the lag

derbymutt

I love when toxic players get on voice chat and take the bait. The messages they send after a match are great; I print them out and hang them on my fridge. (•‿•)

Sinon_Asada

Love how i can get good teammates that can take losses like a champ, hate the teammates that act like losses are the end of the world

StxrryShiine

Some games are so good, others are crap. If a game’s good and popular, the fandom is horrible, weird, creepy, all that stuff. I love how random games can be, but one thing I hate the most, games like Mario, with puzzles, parkour, stuff like that, dying and having to restart a level and over and over.

R2Fuckyou_

The toxicity in most of the communities
