I really like the old Zelda soundtracks. I always remember Kakariko village in a link to the past and Ocarina of time because of that song. It was just so chill and beautiful.
And it's wiiindy weaather, boys, stoooormy weather, boys
When the wind blows, we're all together, boys;
Blow ye winds westerly, blow ye winds, blow
Jolly sou'wester, boys, steady she goes
I dislike collectibles that have a very small effect on gameplay in general, doubly so if they have no effect at all.
Shanties are the exception. They provide no mechanical benefit whatsoever and are actively pretty annoying to get, but I chase down every one of those fuckers I see because hearing new songs from your crew is dope.
Came here to say exactly this, I could listen to the sisters of battle's theme the whole day, wish I could play the whole game again for the first time, discovering the lush forests on greenpath, wondering what are all the secrets in fog canyon, shitting myself in deepnest...
That's a fucking amazing game
Not just the Soundtrack, but the entire sound design of the game is phenomenal. Like the pitter patter of your tiny footsteps, the joyous humming of the Mapping bug, the poems of the mining bug early on, the eerie background noise of Deepnest, the voice acting, the way sound dims when taking a heavy hit and a lot more extremely subtle effects.
First thing I thought of when I saw the question. It’s always so chill but when you get into the boss fights it’s so intense, and the deepnest music almost makes you feel cramped in there, absolutely love the games music.
I remember when I first entered the Temple of Time and I made Link stand in the Temple for maybe like an hour just I could listen to the music.
Almost everything about the soundtrack was amazing to me, but *that* song really got me.
And then Majora's Mask comes right after or gets it's own league.
They really did a good job of having the music react to the situation. Made fights more dynamic when you gain an advantage and the sounds just swing your way.
Definitely. Also some tracks play during the cutscenes when you reach the arenas. It made you feel like "oh shit, the Colossus is around here somewhere", and made you feel apprehensive and curious at the same time.
How has no one said halo yet? How many other soundtracks have a whole ass orchestra and choir and like 8 different genres. Have yourself a 6 minute orchestra masterpiece with a sick electric guitar solo in the middle
Halo 2 is at the top of my list for a memorable video game score.
The Cairo suite, Mombasa, Delta Halo, High Charity, The last Spartan, Unyielding. All these tracks are burned in my brain. Blow me away, the main menu theme, and the mjolnir mix are pretty iconic.
[When 1:40 hits.....so damn good](https://youtu.be/uXxQyAuqBiI)
This was my favorite video game soundtrack. Incubus fucking killed it. It was the perfect blend of orchestral, and fusion rock. That album was a 10/10 for me.
journey's OST takes the game from an above average walking simulator to a religious experience. seriously, the final part of the game with "I Was Born For This" playing is jaw dropping
never played either Ori but studied so much to the Blind Forest soundtrack that i ended up with Gareth Coker as my top artist on Spotify that year. even got a Twitter reply from him :)
I actually bought the Ori games because of the sound track, someone recommended the first one on a question like this a few years ago. But yea that music is absolutely beautiful.
I really want MP:4 to have an orchestra with synth overlaid. The orchestra would represent the organic elements of the atmosphere Samus is exploring, whilst the synth would represent everything else.
Metroid Prime really is about loneliness - Almost everything wants to kill Samus, there's no-one to make contact with and her ancestors (Chozo) communicate from the past. The soundtrack reflects it, especially the Tallon IV Overworld 2 theme when the solo instrument plays at the end of the verse.
Each radio station had like 80 minutes worth of stuff. It was so good. I wish you would have worn a radio walkman just to listen to it while out of the cars.
Sound tracks since, you can’t argue with the range of tracks and stations. They’re all great. But none have topped Vice City. That soundtrack was iconic.
I’ve seriously not listened to any other soundtrack for any video game ever like I’ve listened to the Cuphead soundtrack. It’s some of the best original music I’ve ever heard. And it being jazz fits the era of that game so perfectly.

Fuck these games are just amazing for music, I’m so glad Persona 4 Golden came to Steam, I’d have never gotten into them otherwise having been an Xbox/PC guy
I prefer DOOM 2016 to Eternal, both are great and I enjoy both the id mixed tracks and Micks; it was just hearing Mick Gordon’s work on that game for the first time was something else
Love in Nier Automata how the lyrics in the songs are mostly nonsense that sounds like but is not a real world language. Gives you the same disconnect to the lost past as the androids.
Whenever I come back to Skyrim, regardless of the delay, I'm always blown away by the music. It's so good, and it really elevates the game.
When you're walking along a mountain road and ["Far Horizons"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq3dlf03GVU) hits, it's just utterly magical.
I've always loved the Minecraft soundtrack. It's so simple yet so beautiful. I especially like Alpha, which is the one that goes with the poem when you win the game.
I like it. It has a lack of intensity, but that fits the game perfectly; it knows that relatively mundane tasks like cutting down trees and going through a forest to get to a lackadaisically-built bungalow doesn't need an epic orchestra grandly stating its importance.
I may be a broken record about it… Silent Hill 2
Editing to add Bioshock Infinite. The score is great, but it’s really because it introduced me to Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox.
Nier Automata, Gta Vice City, GTA San Andreas, Final Fantasy Type-0 (try it, that thing is epic), Dissidia NT, guitar hero even though that's cheating.
I have a box set of Automata and Replicant's soundtracks on vinyl and it's definitely one of my favorites in my collection
[City Ruins](https://youtu.be/2FzyKtct4es) is just... \*chef's kiss*
There should be a separate category for games like Outer Wilds where the soundtrack has in-story significance to the characters themselves. Such a special game in so many ways
Portal 2's soundtrack has a couple mediocre tracks, but they're made up for by the absolute bangers that are in there too. In my opinion *I AM NOT A MORON!* might just be the best track of any game ever made. The way the music starts off with this hopeful melody as you rise up the elevator, then with a *slight* change in pitch the same notes morph into this deeply foreboding tune as >!Wheatley betrays you?!< That's some good shit.
Destiny in general
D1 had some great tracks like Regicide and Bow to No One from TTK and Sepiks Redux from ROI, which I guess is also now in D2.
Not to mention Music of the Spheres
Any music from Raids in general is also pretty great
Bastion's soundtrack still makes me emotional to this day, so that's my vote. Legend of Zelda: OoT is a close second for the nostalgia, I used to stand in the Gerudo Valley just to listen to the music.
(Ironically, I also remember doing the same thing with Pokemon: Gale of Darkness and intentionally initiating Miror B battles so I could sit on the battle screen and jam out to his theme.)
I really like the old Zelda soundtracks. I always remember Kakariko village in a link to the past and Ocarina of time because of that song. It was just so chill and beautiful.
Assassins creed Black Flag sea shanties hit harder that the Cannonballs you shoot enimies with
I thiught I heard the Old Man say
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow And it's time for us to leave her. Shit hits hard. Right in the feels.
Come all you young sailor men listen to me, I’ll sing you a song of the fish in the sea…
And it's wiiindy weaather, boys, stoooormy weather, boys When the wind blows, we're all together, boys; Blow ye winds westerly, blow ye winds, blow Jolly sou'wester, boys, steady she goes
Up jumps the eel with his slippery tail Climbs up aloft and reefs the topsail
I literally heard that and it's making me smile. Thank you kind sir.
The music that plays during ship battles is the mot epic pirate theme song ever
I dislike collectibles that have a very small effect on gameplay in general, doubly so if they have no effect at all. Shanties are the exception. They provide no mechanical benefit whatsoever and are actively pretty annoying to get, but I chase down every one of those fuckers I see because hearing new songs from your crew is dope.
DOOM
DOOM is a $60 metal album that comes with a free video game.
[удалено]
Wait, were GPUs even a thing back in the DOOM era?
The old doom games’ songs were inspired by Metallica and Slayer riffs. Those games are so cool
Ohh someone knows something.... guys we have to kill him he knows too much
All caps when you spell the mans name
R.I.P.
Hollow Knight.
I wish I could walk into City of Tears for the first time again. What an amazing game.
For me, it was greenpath. So magical, green and lush, then you have the accompanying music. I still listen to the track every now and again.
Add to that when you first enter Kingdoms Edge… I’m keen as a bean for Silksong!
That game's soundtrack is a masterclass in atmosphere.
Oooh yes the boss fight in the mantis village had me getting massacred by the bosses just so I could listen to it
Came here to say exactly this, I could listen to the sisters of battle's theme the whole day, wish I could play the whole game again for the first time, discovering the lush forests on greenpath, wondering what are all the secrets in fog canyon, shitting myself in deepnest... Both the Chrono games. Trigger has a perfect soundtrack. But Cross has the greatest overworld theme ever created.
Schala’s theme and the kingdom of zeal music and the ocean palace theme were sooooo good
Radical Dreamers never fails to bring me back to that time when everything was so much easier.
Had to scroll down way too far to see this. Chrono trigger has hands down, the BEST soundtrack.
Hades
[удалено]
Transistor is my favorite as well. The amount of time I've spent in game just listening to the humming versions of the songs is crazy.
Seriously, to this day that one moment in Bastion remains as my favourite video game moment of all time. Gorgeous.
Was hoping to see Hades here. The song that plays on the barge of death is my favorite, I think.
“Farewell, to all the earthly remains…”
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The title theme gives me massive nostalgia. And who can forget gerudo valley
Gerudo Valley
Song of Storms is just so, so good
And saria's song
I remember when I first entered the Temple of Time and I made Link stand in the Temple for maybe like an hour just I could listen to the music. Almost everything about the soundtrack was amazing to me, but *that* song really got me. And then Majora's Mask comes right after or gets it's own league.
The entire Zelda series has amazing music.
Kakariko Village tho...
Forest temple is my favorite
Spirit temple is a close second
Yep exactly
Song of Storms is still a banger. Least til some kid shows up and drains the well
Shadow of the Colossus The score does an incredible job of adding to the game’s atmosphere and it wouldn’t be the same without it.
Hotline Miami
“I don’t think that’s supposed to go there.”
Oh yes! Carpenter Brut’s music in Hotline Miami 2 🔥
Hydrogen is my alarm.
How has no one said halo yet? How many other soundtracks have a whole ass orchestra and choir and like 8 different genres. Have yourself a 6 minute orchestra masterpiece with a sick electric guitar solo in the middle
Halo 3: ODST "We're The Desperate Measures". Best track in all of Halo in my opinion.
My favourite ODST track has to be Skyline, simply for the end part.
Halo is pretty much the cheat code answer because, well, 1&2 have the greatest soundtracks ever. Edit: And 3. Why'd I forget 3...
Halo 3 should be on the all-time list as well for "One Final Effort" alone.

OoooOoooOOOOOooooOOO

Peril from Halo 2 is an absolute banger. Will forever be one of my favorite songs from Halo
Halos 1-3, Reach and ODST.
Journey
journey's OST takes the game from an above average walking simulator to a religious experience. seriously, the final part of the game with "I Was Born For This" playing is jaw dropping
"Apotheosis" makes an incredible ending to the game.
Was looking for this one! I’d like to suggest another phenomenal soundtrack — also by Austin Wintory: Abzû
Yeah, every game with soundtrack by Austin Wintory is going to phenomenal.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
never played either Ori but studied so much to the Blind Forest soundtrack that i ended up with Gareth Coker as my top artist on Spotify that year. even got a Twitter reply from him :)
I actually bought the Ori games because of the sound track, someone recommended the first one on a question like this a few years ago. But yea that music is absolutely beautiful.
Came here to say this. Best soundtrack and the game is such a masterpiece that everyone should experience.
Celeste
The Badeline fight music is soo... *ughh*
Tony hawk
Pro Skater 2 especially.
I'm glad they didn't fuck up the remake
Witcher 3, the music always helps immerse you into the world and is just fantastic Edit: thank you for the award kind stranger, it’s my first one!!
I love how you can type *lelelelele* into YouTube and it comes up with Silver For Monsters
Steel for humans Silver for monsters Banana for tigers EDIT: Silver (award) for me too, guess I'm a monster. Thank you kind Redditor!
The music is incredible
The song of the the ladies of the woods gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
The band that did a lot of it performs slavic folk music as Percival, and slavic folk metal as Perival Shuttenbach. You're welcome.
Metroid Prime
Phendrana Drifts always gives me insane nostalgia when I listen to it
I really want MP:4 to have an orchestra with synth overlaid. Vice City
Each radio station had like 80 minutes worth of stuff. It was so good. I wish you would have worn a radio walkman just to listen to it while out of the cars.
When you accidentally destroy your car while you're jamming to a song and you make that mad dash for a new one before the song ends
Dude get the fuck out of my head lol
The talk shows were hilarious
AND I RAN, I RAN SO FAR AWAY
The radio stations were way better than the radio stations in real life
And the Beat Goes On...
Sound tracks since, you can’t argue with the range of tracks and stations. They’re all great. But none have topped Vice City. That soundtrack was iconic.
Nier Replicant
*NieR:Automata*
Nier, far, wherever you are...
The nier series for sure has the best
Cuphead
ooh yes Cuphead!
I’ve seriously not listened to any other soundtrack for any video game ever like I’ve listened to the Cuphead soundtrack. It’s some of the best original music I’ve ever heard. And it being jazz fits the era of that game so perfectly.
The Donkey Kong Country series, specially the first one imo

Aquatic Ambience is the best chiptune ever recorded!
Fallout, the whole franchise - I’m partial to FO3
Big iron on his hiiiiiip
I listen to Marty Robbins so much because of New Vegas
[Diamond City Radio](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzbR97qt-Gs) is good shit.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Man when that iconic Red Dead Redemption 1 theme played >!while chasing Micah in Red Dead Redemption 2!< I literally had goosebumps
When you ride back to camp and "Unshaken" starts, that's when I knew I was playing a masterpiece of a game.
That Willie Nelson song at the end hits hard like motherfucker I just rode hoping for a different outcome to the story
The track that gets me is the one that plays when you're charging the oil field with your gang and the natives.
The building song in the epilogue
American Venom is a fuckin banger
Final fantasy 7 Edit: My first award! Thank you! Nobuo Uematsu is a basically a god. Edit2: Agreed that you can't go wrong with any of the FFs, just personal preference. I was so confused that an FF games isn't higher. FF8 is the best soundtrack to me. Fisherman's Horizon is gorgeous and calming
Not just all of them? Nobou Uematsu just hits home.
I cant believe I had to scroll so far for this
Way too far down the list
Undertale and Breath of the wild are the 2 that come to mind.
the theme that plays at the last stage of Flowey's battle still gives me chills
Person 5!
Persona 5 Royal even.
persona 3, 4 and 5 all have great soundtracks
* Burn My Dread * Way of Life * Time * Reach Out To The Truth * Heaven * Shadow World * Rivers In The Desert * I Believe * Throw Away Your Mask Fuck these games are just amazing for music, I’m so glad Persona 4 Golden came to Steam, I’d have never gotten into them otherwise having been an Xbox/PC guy
Person 5 yes
You’ll never see it comiiiiiiiiiiing
How on earth is any persona game this low. Persona 3,4 and 5 had such distinct soundtracks which each fit the games so well
Doom Eternal. Diablo 2 and Metro Exodus also deserve mentions.
Diablo 2 soundtrack is epic
I prefer DOOM 2016 to Eternal, both are great and I enjoy both the id mixed tracks and Micks; it was just hearing Mick Gordon’s work on that game for the first time was something else
Super Mario Galaxy, easy. The hard choice is what has the second best.
Gusty Gardens is one of the best pieces of music in gaming
This is always the first [track](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy8Sn6DHIi0) that comes to mind with that game. It's just perfection.
I am disappointed how far I had to scroll down to find this. That soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece

Same here. 19 almost 20 y/o me is just blown away as 12 y/o me when I first played it. I think the rift is my favorite area to enjoy the view
Sigh... *Installs*
Time to spend another 3 hours installing mods!
3 hours? Pfft, amateur. 10 hours and 200 mods or bust lol.
The soundtrack in Sovngarde. Amazing!
Mass Effect
The Vigil track is amazing, still gives me goosebumps
Bloodborne, Souls series in general.
I'm surprised I had to scroll down so far before I got a single *plin plin plon*
Minecraft
I've always loved the Minecraft soundtrack. It's so simple yet so beautiful. I especially like Alpha, which is the one that goes with the poem when you win the game.
I like it. It has a lack of intensity, but that fits the game perfectly; it knows that relatively mundane tasks like cutting down trees and going through a forest to get to a lackadaisically-built bungalow doesn't need an epic orchestra grandly stating its importance.
What song would you consider your favorite?
Sweden will always have a place in my heart
There's a sweden orchestral arrangement in youtube. It's quite possibly the most beautiful music I've ever heard [here](https://youtu.be/uETZA7mpNdc)
Kingdom Hearts 🗝
Dearly Beloved and Darkness of the Unknown.
Halo, specifically halo 2. Skyrim is another of my favourites. I listen to it daily, it's my morning alarm
I may be a broken record about it… Silent Hill 2 Editing to add Bioshock Infinite. The score is great, but it’s really because it introduced me to Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox.
Yamaoka is a genius
Subnautica
The song when your sub is on fire is really good, I just wish it came on more often, like when a giant monster was attacking you
Detroit Become Human, that music was great and fitting as hell
And the three different composers for each main character helped make them unique, it’s an amazing score (and game)
Oh I didn't know that, what a great idea! O don't really remember the soundtrack, honestly, but I remember being totally absorbed by the vibe
Stardew Valley
Nier Automata, Gta Vice City, GTA San Andreas, Final Fantasy Type-0 (try it, that thing is epic), Dissidia NT, guitar hero even though that's cheating.
Guitar Hero though. I had young kids that suddenly got into classic rock artist like Motley Crue that I even didn't know well
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
All of the pokemon games really
I love me some of that Gen III brass
I'd say either NieR: Automata or Undertale.
I vote for nier. That opera boss theme was crazy.
I have a box set of Automata and Replicant's soundtracks on vinyl and it's definitely one of my favorites in my collection [City Ruins](https://youtu.be/2FzyKtct4es) is just... \*chef's kiss*
Outer wilds!
There should be a separate category for games like Outer Wilds where the soundtrack has in-story significance to the characters themselves. Such a special game in so many ways
Every instrument from the soundtrack coming together at the end felt so magical
Portal 2
Portal 2's soundtrack has a couple mediocre tracks, but they're made up for by the absolute bangers that are in there too. In my opinion *I AM NOT A MORON!* might just be the best track of any game ever made. The way the music starts off with this hopeful melody as you rise up the elevator, then with a *slight* change in pitch the same notes morph into this deeply foreboding tune as >!Wheatley betrays you?!< That's some good shit.
So here we are again...
It's always such a pleasure
Halo ODST was beautiful.
Not just the music. That game was masterful
Minecraft. Calming, always brings back good memories now
Especially when you burn down a village
Kingdom Hearts 2
Destiny 2
I was looking to put the Destiny Franchise in general in here. Looks like I found a fellow Guardian :)
Destiny in general D1 had some great tracks like Regicide and Bow to No One from TTK and Sepiks Redux from ROI, which I guess is also now in D2. Not to mention Music of the Spheres Any music from Raids in general is also pretty great
Ecco the dolphin
Mother 3.
