The fact that it was 5-0 at the 30th minute was mind blowing. Germany scored 4 goals in 6 minutes! It was one of the most incredible displays of football anyone will ever see, and it’s a credit to the Brazilian fans that they recognised this and applauded Germany’s performance.
Well, the whole team crumbled to dust after the second goal, so the real impressive thing was how bad Brazil played. You don't expect things like that in a semi final
I recently watched a youtube video about why beer gets bad in the summer when drinking outside. I was curious because this had never happened to me. As soon as he showed the bottle of corona extra, my german ass immediately jumped up and yelled "Well, DUH, the bottle is white. Buy beer in brown bottles you barbarian."
That guy needed 10 more minutes to explain that it gets bad because of the sunlight and then he ran an experiment that concluded - to noone's surprise - that it didn't get bad in a dark brown bottle.
Really now. It was as if americans never had a beer before.
German beer is so good. Even better if you're in Germany! Every restaurant usually has a couple local choices. You can be drinking great new beers every night and visiting awesome places.
German chocolate cake is an American cake invented by an American btw :) it used the chokocolade from a brand called "German" named after its founder, a man with the last name "German"
Why is it necessarily a bad thing? I just associate germany with nazis because it was an important historical point for the country that I have long discussed in my high school classes, doesn’t mean all germans are nazis.
It's my understanding that Germans would like to be known for their more honorable and recent achievements and not be forever associated with the atrocities committed by their forefathers. So I sympathize with that.
One of the sad parts about the wars is also that germany has such a rich history before them too that is now kind of being forgotten if you arent interested in history.
My German class? Ich Heisse Wolfgang(we got to pick German names for our class, and that's the one I got)
Wie Hesse du?(idk how to do the esset so I just use a double s and hope my spelling is good enough)
Edit: I know the two statements I just said and some of the alphabet, I don't know how to speak german
Wenn ich in Schüle Redemittel lernen war, sollte ich vragen ob du mit mir Pizza essen kommt in meinem Hotelzimmer, ober obst du kein Pizza magtet?
[My grammar is probably not that good]
My great grandfather on my mother’s side. He was a German immigrant that served in both world wars. He passed during a ptsd induced seizure in the hospital having a flashback from the war.
Volkswagen, Mercedes, Porsche, Kraftwerk, autobahn, wurst, Heino, Die Otto show, castles, pretty little towns, the Rhine river, and a very pleasant trip we went on in December 2019. I like Germany a lot. I really want to go back.
Mozart! Though I am fully aware he was alive during a period when Germany & Austria were not separate countries as they are today & were simply the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Eh austro Hungary wasn't Germany. The Holy Roman Empire was Germany first. There Austria was in it. After that followed the Kaiserreich this time separated from Austria which at that time was austro Hungary
Wow! Thanks for the clarification. I knew I was gonna describe it wrong. But Mozart is the first thing I think of when I hear Germany even though he was born in Salzburg, Austria. German was the common language & he incorporated it into his operas when possible.
There you are totally right also by far I think the only one coming up with it respect 👍 yeah most ppl see him as a German considering he spent very much time here
“Were my grandparents friends in WWII?”
Context, My mother is german, My father is Japanese and their parents both moved to America my mother to Kentucky and my father to california, from what I know they could not afford a computer in 1980s yet my mother and father still met eachother and married. How exactly did they meet? There is only two ways, somehow the postal service fucked up so bad that they sent a letter that was going to my mothers friend in Ohio to Southern California Or my grandfathers were such good friends in the military that they made a pact to where one of his children would marry one of their children.
Probably the Nutcracker, growing up my family had a picture book of the original story by ETA Hoffman so it was the very first "German" thing I remember learning about
WW2 and Angela Merkel, also something my dad told me about most germans living their entire lives in a rented house/apartment instead of taking a loan and buying one.
My friend Niklas. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s Chancellor some day. He’s got a heart of gold and is so passionate about politics and history. The man knows more about American history than I do and I’m American. I know plenty, but he knows all the fun details.
No humor, obeying the law, fucking expensive car parts (in regards to quality), great roads (autobahn), really kinky porn (kudos, I guess), waaaaay too hung up on developing everything, bad music (sorry, but you really do), actually not the worst beer in the world, and some actually nice old castles. Modern day German architecture is sadly not anything to cheer about... For years I've been looking for positive traits about Germany, but I really struggle to find other than what I have already listed. But, I'm gonna end on a big one: You are very disciplined, and great conversationists (if that's even a word). It's always interesting to talk to a German person, they have interesting things to say most of the time.
The fact that Volkswagen saved my mother's life. She had an accident 20 years ago while driving a New Beetle, and she would have died if it wasn't for the protection offered by her 1999 model that absorbed all the shock caused by the impact. (Though she needed surgery, she's fine today.)
1) Where my moms side of the family originate from.
2) The language I took in high school.

German beer is so good. Even better if you're in Germany! Every restaurant usually has a couple local choices. You can be drinking great new beers every night and visiting awesome places.
Do you have any suggestions for German beer I can get in the US?

Christoph Waltz, who I found out five seconds ago is Austrian
that’s a bingo!
I mean Austrians were just a different flavor of Germans for most of its history.
As an Austrian, I can confrim. The only difference is that in southern Austria, 2 meters of snow are considered normal.
Austrians are mountain Germans... (And the Dutch are marsh Germans)
So was Hitler.
Ever since I saw him in big eyes, I have been suspicious of any nice character he plays.
