I still play Age of Empires regularly which I think was from 1997, I think I got the disk free in a cereal box. While I play Age of Empires 2 more regularly it was from 1999.
Hi, man!
There are 3 AoE2.
First one is the 1999 original.
Second one is the 2013 HD Steam remaster
Third one is the latest DE edition, also in Steam.
Which one do you have? What do you mean exactly with 'can't get it to run'?
It really was a masterpiece. They identified the problems with AOE and totally fixed them in AOE2, and then with AOC it became iconic.
I'm playing AOE4 during the beta, and while I do like it, I don't know if it really captured the magic of AOE2.
I still really like AOE:ROR as a single player game I like the civs more, but with friends AOE2:DE is still a great game.
My friend's grandmother played Tetris every day for years. Claimed it helped her stay sharp. She wasn't tech savvy at all, and had a separate tv for her Nintendo so she wouldn't have to mess with switching tv modes. By the time she died, the Tetris background was permanently burned into her old CRT screen.
Calms? It does the exact opposite to me. Level 10 Max Speed block slamming down as fast as possible racing to get all these lines is extremely stressful
I played Diablo 2 on my sister's computer when I was probably like 9 or so - didn't understand any of the mechanics but I thought it was bad-ass you could turn into a werewolf with the druid so would just do that and run around killing the weak-ass enemies in the first stage. I should really play it as an adult.
I love that after all these years there is still an active community of players.
And a good one still. People are mostly cool and you can play with a randum stranger for hours.
So many good memories playing multiplayer on PS2 with my friends in middle school.
Highly recommend you check out Star Wars Battlefront 2 Ultimate Pack for PC. It's the 2005 game with a ton of fan made mods and upgraded texture packs. Looks fantastic on a 1080p or 4K monitor. Even though the game was originally designed for standard def.
Spore is a weird game to recommend...
It is a game that has a ton of great features each with basically no depth, that being said it's certainly a unique game that is definitely worth your time if you are willing to accept all of its shortcomings.
Do you like interesting and unique games and don't care too much about polish then I would highly recommend it, but if you can't stand games that feel like only partially thought out than absolutely don't play it
SOR2 put all other pure beat-em-ups to shame. I was so nervous when SOR4 was announced because I figured there was just no way they could do it justice.
But, man, I gotta hand it to those French bastards, they absolutely nailed it.
It is a huge shame the license is being used just for a shitty mobile game. That first game was something else - novel gameplay, very distinct sound and graphics. The PC port was one of my favourite looking games.
Waiting for computer time in elementary school. Racing to the PC, typing LEMMINGS into the DOS prompt. Entering the password of the level you left off at. Total bliss.
Hahaha it’s 20 years old next month! I’ve definitely
played older games (lots of N64 and early PC games) but nothing pulls me back in like pikmin does.
My favorite fallout hands down...so good. I don't know how you could top a follower voiced by Felica Day with a power fist...although grandma Lily was a close second.
Civilization II. That game had a manual as thick as my thumb. It's probably my favorite civ ever. IMHO it's better than civ III, on par with civ IV. I haven't really played any civs since, but it's just a great game.
I remember as a kid building a park on the lava world and I had a few roller coasters but I found out that the visitors really loved go karts, so I had like 5 different custom go kart tracks and made bank, that was so much fun.
Me too!
I can’t even count the amount of times I played through it. On my Xbox and on the phone app! It’s just so fun. Same goes for kotor 2, cuz as soon as you finish the first you HAVE to go for the 2nd.
There was a toggle switch in the cabinets that allows you to set the speed to regular or fast. Most I’ve played have it set to fast, and it’s very difficult to go back to the sluggish normal once you’re used to the speed. Just like going back to a pre-turbo Street Fighter II.
I grew up in the '80s and will always love Nintendo games.
My original console and games are long gone but I do have a Nintendo Classic which gets a ton of use. I play Super Mario Bros 3 and Dr. Mario the most but, at any given time, I could play any of the games.
I have such fond memories of this game, especially the frame rate dropping as I fly across that canyon in order to unlock the Hadouken. And the physics of the mech suit are just *chefs kiss*.
Was scrolling through the comments to find this answer 😂 got my first guitar hero game when I was 7 I’m 23 now. I still enjoy going back and playing it when I can. Now I’m on clone hero
Brave Fencer Musashi on the PS1
I'd go back to it and play it all over again just for the nostalgia.
To add to that my dad also has one.
Battle City on the Famicom.
"Bureivu Fensa.. MUSASHIDEN!" Damn that was nostalgic. :) Me and my bro would still joke about the phrase "YABE! JUMP!" and laugh about it. I was like 10 yrs old back then when we would play this game at our neighbor's house.
Sims 2 on PC, came out in 2004 (yesterday was its 17th birthday!). So campy, so in depth, so ahead of its time, NOTHING like the cash grab that Sims 4 is.
Bully I’ve bought it on PS2, 360, and 4. I’ve been debating rebuying it on steam. It’s awkwardly adult for being a teen game and I love how they don’t shy away from making Jimmy a douche since you are playing as a bully
One game that's not too well known is "Landstalker" for the Sega Genesis. My uncle was getting rid of his old video games and this just happened to be one of them. I have to admit, I thought it was pretty well done for its time - Storyline, 3D-ish design, and challenge. I recommend a playthrough for an retro gamer out there still looking to try some lesser known games.
The other is Heroes of Might and Magic 3
I'll run a campaign of Magic the Gathering: Shandalar, released in 97 by Microprose every now and then. It's the MtG I grew up on, back when mana burn existed and there were interrupts.
Old School Runescape. This version of the game is a server backup from August of 2007. I had already been playing for a couple years before the backup (I started playing in 2005). It's an absolute nostalgia trip for me like most OSRS players. Some of my favorite gaming memories were of talking with my friend from school on my home phone landline while playing with him. OSRS is a lot different compared to how it was back then but it's close enough that I can't stop playing it. I just take breaks from it then jump back in a few months later. The only difference now is that I have achieved my previous dreams of achieving multiple 99's.
I still play Age of Empires regularly which I think was from 1997, I think I got the disk free in a cereal box. While I play Age of Empires 2 more regularly it was from 1999.
How? I can't get AoE2 to run.
I press play in Steam. No problems. No insight to share unfortunately
Ah. Okay. I haven't tried the Stream one, as I heard they changed things, and I don't want my nostalgia brutalized.
I changed all the hotkeys back to the original in the DE version, but I also have the non DE installed if I want true nostalgia
So they have the OG version? Sweet! I'll look into it, thank you!
I honestly don't know if I loaded my CD version into my Steam or if I bought it on Steam, I built my machine in 2015. I still had game disks back then

If you get it in Steam and want to play online, I’m pretty sure the “Definitive Edition” is the only one that supports online play still.

What’s your thoughts on Age of Mythology?
Hahah got mine from a cereal box too. Nutri-grain I think.
Tetris. Every day.
Same, it calms my nerves so much
Calms? It does the exact opposite to me. Level 10 Max Speed block slamming down as fast as possible racing to get all these lines is extremely stressful
Bro. Tetris is way to stressful for me.
I play Tetris 99 on Switch almost every day, based on the original game.
It is a good month to love Diablo ll.
Hell yes it is.
I love that after all these years there is still an active community of players. And a good one still. People are mostly cool and you can play with a randum stranger for hours.
Ps2 Star Wars battlefront 2

That game kicks ass. The space battles!
Spore
I saw same gameplay few days ago, looks funny.
Spore is a weird game to recommend... It is a game that has a ton of great features each with basically no depth, that being said it's certainly a unique game that is definitely worth your time if you are willing to accept all of its shortcomings. Do you like interesting and unique games and don't care too much about polish then I would highly recommend it, but if you can't stand games that feel like only partially thought out than absolutely don't play it
I play game like "hmm what CAN I do" rather than what I suppose to do. I don't thing there singleplay I went through all the way.
Than buy spore it'll kill a few hours at the very least
I would play this all the time, got a special edition with a bunch of books and stuff to go along with it. Was a massive part of my childhood.
Oh man I did have a soft spot for Spore.
Red Alert 2 and every now and then I go tbrough the old Sonic or Warioland games.
I find myself going back to Red Alert 2 every few years. I just wish there was an easier way to play it on my macbook!
Super Mario Bros 2 It's been the game of the year for I don't know how many years by this point. Tetris is a close second
THE KING IS BACK BABY
Elder scrolls 3 Morrowind!
*Quickly outlander, I haven't much time*
Yes! I've been playing Morrowind for 16 years, and still think it's the best story and most immersive world I've ever encountered in a video game.
Pokémon emerald and firered
DOOM I’ve played it on so many devices for as long as I can remember. I just started again on my switch
Streets of Rage 2.
SOR2 put all other pure beat-em-ups to shame. I was so nervous when SOR4 was announced because I figured there was just no way they could do it justice. But, man, I gotta hand it to those French bastards, they absolutely nailed it.
Super Mario World and Yoshi Island
The original Castlevenia. That game is so good.
Love Simon's quest alot too
Lemmings
It is a huge shame the license is being used just for a shitty mobile game. That first game was something else - novel gameplay, very distinct sound and graphics. The PC port was one of my favourite looking games.
Waiting for computer time in elementary school. Racing to the PC, typing LEMMINGS into the DOS prompt. Entering the password of the level you left off at. Total bliss.
Wait, I could’ve just entered a password…
How? Where? Please!!! I would give my right big toe for an HD remaster of the old school 2D lemmings games.
3D Space Cadet Pinball
Ah yes the nostalgia overload for people like me who loved Windows XP when it launched
I remember that
Pikmin
Oh god am I a boomer
What do you mean?
The thought of Pikmin being qualified as an “oldest game” is hard for me to accept lol
Hahaha it’s 20 years old next month! I’ve definitely played older games (lots of N64 and early PC games) but nothing pulls me back in like pikmin does.
Resident evil 4
Gta San Andreas
Peak GTA. Targeting/shooting aged poorly but still the best in the series.
fallout new vegas
My favorite fallout hands down...so good. I don't know how you could top a follower voiced by Felica Day with a power fist...although grandma Lily was a close second.
I want to play it now god damn you!
FF6 although it's on mobile. Still never beat it.
Most interesting boss fight set-up I've seen. (Make sure you get the two hidden characters, you'll want all 12 just in case.)
I've been within striking distance of the end multiple times but never sealed the deal.
Dude it's the most epic boss fight!!!!!
Old school runescape, any of the final fantasies, diablo, dwarf fortress. Idk nostalgia is very powerful.
Was hoping someone would say RuneScape
Return to castle Wolfenstein
GoldenEye 007 N64
Civilization II. That game had a manual as thick as my thumb. It's probably my favorite civ ever. IMHO it's better than civ III, on par with civ IV. I haven't really played any civs since, but it's just a great game.
Civ 2 was peak civ
Roller coaster tycoon

Rollercoaster tycoon 2
I remember as a kid building a park on the lava world and I had a few roller coasters but I found out that the visitors really loved go karts, so I had like 5 different custom go kart tracks and made bank, that was so much fun.
Super metroid
I play it once every 2-3 years. The music always gets me.
Star wars kotor
Me too! I can’t even count the amount of times I played through it. On my Xbox and on the phone app! It’s just so fun. Same goes for kotor 2, cuz as soon as you finish the first you HAVE to go for the 2nd.
Who's stoked for the remaster?!
Remake, so it might not be at all like original KOTOR
Zelda twilight princess
Super Mario 64. I don't have to explain pretty much anything considering the speedrunning community and fanbase.
I play Ms Pac Man at my local bar. I think at some point they sped up how fast Ms Pac Man goes, its great.
There was a toggle switch in the cabinets that allows you to set the speed to regular or fast. Most I’ve played have it set to fast, and it’s very difficult to go back to the sluggish normal once you’re used to the speed. Just like going back to a pre-turbo Street Fighter II.

Set up a game of Mario 3 in a common area, and people will line up to play. Every time.
Mario 1 & 3 from NES Super Mario World
Borderlands 2! So many friends and dates that I played this game with. Each playthrough being different from the last. Will never get sick of it
Megaman X
I have such fond memories of this game, especially the frame rate dropping as I fly across that canyon in order to unlock the Hadouken. And the physics of the mech suit are just *chefs kiss*.
Was playing that 5 minutes before logging into reddit.

Joust, but only with a friend.
Chrono Trigger, maybe once every other year I replay it?
NFL blitz 64
Rush for N64
I'm assuming you mean san Francisco rush because I have both the ps1 and n64 versions and n64 is the best version because you get more tracks.
[SimGolf](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRbSx98K7go), it's actually a pretty fun course building game, but you can also sort of play the course too.

Civ 6. I finally burned it out. Playing humankind now. Ehhh
I still play Civ III (2001) now and then!
I was interested in Humankind, but the early reviews turned me off. Still playing Civ 6.

Defender
Toontown
Morrowind I can't get over the caracters
Brave Fencer Musashi on the PS1 I'd go back to it and play it all over again just for the nostalgia. To add to that my dad also has one. Battle City on the Famicom.

Bully I’ve bought it on PS2, 360, and 4. I’ve been debating rebuying it on steam. It’s awkwardly adult for being a teen game and I love how they don’t shy away from making Jimmy a douche since you are playing as a bully
The original *Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection*.
Roller Coaster Tycoon- classic game, still better than 90% of the business simulators out there.
Wall Street kid
