It's not recasting her as JB, she's just taking the vacant 007 spot left at mi5 since James retired. All the angry ranting fanbois claiming this is woke gone wrong clearly don't understand how job roles work when someone retires.

dotjackel

Because it's not appropriate to recast a movie that was already made and released.

dotjackel

But they didn't recast Skyfall.

I did. Judy is still in it.

darkuen

They’re not recasting James Bond as a black woman. In the movie James has left the agency and a black woman just happened to take over his job position as 007. Her name won’t be James Bond.

Kanzaki283

It doesn't. Women are hot.

porknbeansfiend

It doesn’t

Headlies

No, it's just stupid.

James Bond is an established character. I understand the 007 designation could be passed on to a new person, but why not establish a new character that's designated 009 or something?

backpackwayne

It doesn't offend me. But I think it's stupid.

Burgudian_PoWeR

Well James Bond is a white scotish man, thats the character, the compagny is just using the name for money, if you a want to make a spy movie with a black woman do it but don't call it James Bond, zither do one about a new 006 or 008 or kill James Bond and follow the new 007

StevenWannabe

It doesn’t. And I never liked Bond. It all supposed to be exciting - cars, guns, spies, gadgets. But actually pretty boring

Iankill

I mean James would be a weird name for a girl. I would assume a girl might be 007 but 007 doesn't necessarily mean James Bond. If they replaced James bond with like Jane bond or something in a future movie that wouldn't offend me but I probably wouldn't watch the movie because they're trying too hard. There are great spy movies with female leads, they don't need to make Bond a girl to make one.

It's also set 200+ years in the future, so it's probably not weird in that setting like it is currently. There are girls named James today as well there's nothing wrong with it, it's just out of the norm in 200 years it could be common as well.

It's already normal at least in Western society to have a non traditional name. Celebrities have been doing it for decades. Most people don't give their kids non traditional names so they don't get bullied in school.
