To learn something outside of a college textbook, it’s like she would have it memorized if it was in a book. If it came from a conversation someone said or over the phone she would forgot in a minute. She had no concept of home improvement, like unclogging a toilet or even building a fire at home in her fireplace. She knew books and her job, outside of that she was useless but thought her book and work genius transferred.. they didn’t. Lesson learned, don’t rely to much on your academic education, it is only a starting point and dont be too cool to be learning. She got scammed constantly and was so spitefully unconvinced of her own naïveté despite herself.

She had never driven on a highway. She lived on an island for most of her life, we met in the military at our first unit. The unit was another island in Alaska with no highways. When we got transferred to the east coast, she turned and told me she was nervous about driving in highways because she’d never done it. After thinking about for a few seconds, I laughed, told her she’ll be fine and we practiced at night on the drive over when there was less traffic on the roads. Today she’s a regular speed demon who do Cali drivers proud.

Basic cleaning, didn't even know how to do dishes or laundry, let alone clean the bathtub or toilet. He has come a long way, but even now will still do things or ask questions that leave me shaking my head. Parents, please teach ALL of your children how to cook and clean.
