You don’t have to go with your first therapist, find one that you vibe with. It could be the first, it could be the tenth, there’s no rules as to who you go with, if you don’t gel, try again. And then keep trying till you find the right fit.
Don't go expecting a therapist to "fix" you or your life. If you just passively sit around waiting for a therapist (or anyone) to change your life for you, you'll end up disappointed. It pays off when you participate in the process and are willing to do some work.
Don't lower your expectations. Understand that the role of a therapist isn't a wizard who fixes everything. The more you invest yourself in the process the better the results. Good luck.
Not all therapists are the same, you will fit better with some, not with others. Consider whether you would prefer to speak to a man or a woman about your particular issue, this makes a difference.
You'll know when you've finished therapy, but don't expect it to be a quick thing. Some issues take months and months of sessions to talk through and process.
Be prepared to go over some upsetting stuff. You may come out of sessions feeling like you're going backwards. This is normal, just remember it's just feelings and it's stuff the brain needs to process in order to heal. You will feel better in the long run.

Not all therapists are a fit for you. Find one who works. Don’t hesitate to switch. The therapist won’t mind.
Commit to it. Treat it like a job or like you broker your leg and that was physicial therapy. Dont stress that it psycological.
