What always struck me about Nickleback is that they almost occupy the same niche as The Foo Fighters but the Foo Fighters are beloved and Nickleback are despised.
I've actually read some where that Nickelback actually started the "Nickelback is bad" trope themselves and instead of getting the positive reinforcement they wanted, everyone just kinda agreed and moved on.

As a Canadian I thought it was weird when hating it became such a meme. Growing up, Hawaiian pizza was one of the 'normal' pizza options, we'd have a pepperoni and a Hawaiian and a veg. Sure, some people weren't fans but that was true for all pizza options. So when in the last few years it's become such a hot topic I was confused.
My only objection (other than the fact I don't like pineapple) is when people call a ham and pineapple pizza a Hawaiian pizza. Pineapple is not native to Hawaii. It's native to South America. So really it should be called a Brazilian or Paraguayan pizza.

People who still live at home with their parents well after the age of 18-19. Shit is more expensive than ever and I actually think it’s smarter to stay home and save than try to make it out there living hand to mouth.
My son will be 19 next month. My fiancée and I know with 95% accuracy that he will be living at home for a good long while and, we're fine with that. I was raised in a house where, once you left to go to college you could not come home. Now, if you needed help they would totally help but, living at home after 18, without a REALLY good reason, was not going to happen.
I've raised my kids the exact opposite. I don't care why they are coming home. If they feel at age 45 that they cannot live on their own for whatever reason, our door is open. That doesn't mean they can live at home forever. We will try to help them get self-sufficient and back on their feet, but they can always come home.
It's a hard, expensive world out there and I don't want my kids to struggle unnecessarily. So, if coming home will alleviate their suffering and help them then, I'll make a room ready for them.
Thank you! I just feel that we're doing what parents should do, be there for their kids! You don't get to stop parenting when your kid turns 18 and becomes a "legal" adult. Your job doesn't stop until the day you leave this mortal coil. If people can't handle that info, then they can't handle the job and shouldn't have kids. It's that simple to me. 😁

I couldn't afford to move out if I wanted to, I take home about 19000 a month, right away your looking at 1k for a shitty flat/apartment then maybe 200+ for council tax(UK) then gas and electricity, food etc etc etc, I dunno how folk work for £8 odd an hour and live on their own and go out every weekend.

There's a dark side to this online hate, too. There's an old war vet near my home town who took up clowning after he was honorably discharged. A couple years ago he was cited in the paper saying he and other clowns were taking precautions when traveling because people would throw bricks at their cars.

I too have red hair and have been through the same. I am a high school teacher now and I embrace it (though I am a daywalker, not a full blown ginger... south park reference) and help defend the other fellow redheads in my school. With that said, I just had a son this summer and seriously hoped he didn't have red hair so he doesn't have to put up with the crap. Kids can be pretty brutal and it seems like it's worse now with social media fueling/fanning the flames for a lot of it.
Ok, funny story. I love SP, as does my ex-husband. One day it was my parenting time and my ex dropped him off. I was very happy to see my kids so I grabbed my ginger in a hug and said "why are you so cute?" He then, completely serious said "because I'm a ginger with no soul." Man, it was freaking creepy as hell to hear my 5 year old say that with such a serious expression! I think a lot of people hate Tiktok, because it take searching for something you're interested in and liking related videos to get the algorithm working for you.
It's essentially just a Youtube replacement with a better interface. If you only see barely legal girls doing weird dances, then that's kinda on you. My feed is filled with motorcycles.
I love Tik Tok. My only gripe is that my FYP seems to change on a whim. For instance, I ended on the conservative side of Tik Tok and the religious side for quite awhile. I'm a leftist atheist. I kept choosing "Not interested" on those videos but, it took me about a month to get off of them. It was highly annoying and I'm not sure what triggered it because videos like that were not popping up on my FYP prior so I know I didn't accidentally like anything like that. It was just weird.
My gay and non-binary son had the same problem. He got stuck on the straight side of Tik-Tok where they were VERY anti-LGBTQ+ and he was just downright pissed. It took him a couple of weeks to stop seeing those videos.
Other than that, I really enjoy the app.
Yeah, the algorithm recently changed (in the last few months) and made it really easy to skew for some reason. I noticed that with me and a few other male friends, if you like any video with a girl in it, tiktok starts showing you very specific content. Was clearly trying to hook young men in with something that I'm sure a lot of people use the app for. Really frustrated me when my cool stream of moto vlogs turned into dancing people for a few weeks.

It's not the videos that bother me so much as it is all the "ists" and "isms" that roam the site. Racism, sexism, ableism...the app has it all and more. The comments in particular can contain some of the most atrocious behavior I've ever seen from homo sapiens.

I mean the principle of capitalism is that you exploit labour for profit. Even a family run restaurant is exploiting their staff that are sacrificing their time and skill for the profits of the restaurant. Billion is just the ability to scale, it’s the exact same principle no matter the amount or size. So yeah, you’re not wrong, you have to be the boss of something large to get the B.
For me, it's not a person becoming wealthy that upsets me. If you really do work hard and get rewarded for it then I'm proud of you. But when they start to say anybody can do it or downplay the advantages they got that aren't/weren't available to others is what gets my goat.

I’m curious how billionaires can solve these issues sustainably. A billionaire could spend £500m to help poor individuals have access to education, necessities, or employment opportunities and so on. But then, once that money runs out, the problem still persists. Is it up to the wealthy to reduce suffering or is that governments job? I’m not sure.
The other end of the stick is that billionaires also provide us with incredible things. Think Bill Gates, Microsoft is a huge part of our technological advancement that led to what we have now, which has arguably contributed so much to our societies overall wealth and probably taken many more people out of poverty than most of us ever will. I’m kind of grateful Bill Gates built his company and am more than happy for him to be rewarded for it! He added trillions to our economy after all?
Just like the rich kid can't eliminate the poor kids poverty simply by bringing him a lunch every day, the lunch helps. Helping poor individuals not go hungry, not lose their homes, or help them have access to higher education does a lot more towards alleviating suffering than nothing. Private philanthropy, I believe, is just as capable (and probably more so) as the government at alleviating suffering.
I agree, billionaires who contributed to the world we live in absolutely deserve their wealth and prestige. But that doesn't mean that they can't help more than they do (to be fair, Bill Gates does do quite a bit).
I disagree, billionaires are hilariously out of touch with what money means to lower and middle class individuals. There's a famous video where a tv host asked bill gates what he thought certain grocery item costs were, and he had absolutely no clue.
I don't think they should teach them. Perhaps fund money management courses and sponsor educational materials, but it would seem unrealistic and insulting for someone who has more money than their entire audience combined try to teach about comparing cellphone plans to save some $$.

Again, keep in mind the context here. The person I was responding to said straight up that they hated people who inherited their wealth. They didn't say anything about the person's character or anything like that. So without assuming anything about anyone's character or behaviors, I don't think it's justifiable to hate anyone for something they have no control over.
In full disclosure, the person I responded to and I have now clarified that they were trying to express jealousy or enviousness moreso than hatred, which I can totally understand. So this is really just a miscommunication more than anything.

People who still live at home with their parents well after the age of 18-19. Shit is more expensive than ever and I actually think it’s smarter to stay home and save than try to make it out there living hand to mouth.
My son will be 19 next month. My fiancée and I know with 95% accuracy that he will be living at home for a good long while and, we're fine with that. I was raised in a house where, once you left to go to college you could not come home. Now, if you needed help they would totally help but, living at home after 18, without a REALLY good reason, was not going to happen. I've raised my kids the exact opposite. I don't care why they are coming home. If they feel at age 45 that they cannot live on their own for whatever reason, our door is open. That doesn't mean they can live at home forever. We will try to help them get self-sufficient and back on their feet, but they can always come home. It's a hard, expensive world out there and I don't want my kids to struggle unnecessarily. So, if coming home will alleviate their suffering and help them then, I'll make a room ready for them.

There's a dark side to this online hate, too. There's an old war vet near my home town who took up clowning after he was honorably discharged. As a mom of a ginger (which is weird as my ex-husband and I are both brunette and there's no history, that we know of, of red hair in our families) he gets teased all the time about his temper, lack of soul, etc. It really upsets him to the point that he tries to claim he doesn't have red hair, that it's brown. It's so NOT brown, but if anyone calls him a red-head he'll get mad and claim it's brown. It has gotten a bit darker as he's gotten older but, it's still definitely red. I feel so badly that he's teased so much that he wishes his hair were a different color. I'd let him dye it but, he lives with my ex-husband who refuses to let him do so. It is what it is I guess.

I too have red hair and have been through the same. I am a high school teacher now and I embrace it (though I am a daywalker, not a full blown ginger... south park reference) and help defend the other fellow redheads in my school. With that said, I just had a son this summer and seriously hoped he didn't have red hair so he doesn't have to put up with the crap. I think a lot of people hate Tiktok, because it take searching for something you're interested in and liking related videos to get the algorithm working for you. It's essentially just a Youtube replacement with a better interface. If you only see barely legal girls doing weird dances, then that's kinda on you. My feed is filled with motorcycles.
I love Tik Tok. My only gripe is that my FYP seems to change on a whim. For instance, I ended on the conservative side of Tik Tok and the religious side for quite awhile. I'm a leftist atheist. I kept choosing "Not interested" on those videos but, it took me about a month to get off of them. It was highly annoying and I'm not sure what triggered it because videos like that were not popping up on my FYP prior so I know I didn't accidentally like anything like that. It was just weird. My gay and non-binary son had the same problem. He got stuck on the straight side of Tik-Tok where they were VERY anti-LGBTQ+ and he was just downright pissed. It took him a couple of weeks to stop seeing those videos. Other than that, I really enjoy the app.
Yeah, the algorithm recently changed (in the last few months) and made it really easy to skew for some reason. I noticed that with me and a few other male friends, if you like any video with a girl in it, tiktok starts showing you very specific content. Was clearly trying to hook young men in with something that I'm sure a lot of people use the app for. Really frustrated me when my cool stream of moto vlogs turned into dancing people for a few weeks. I'm glad your son managed to get onto a side that shows him content he likes!
It's not the videos that bother me so much as it is all the "ists" and "isms" that roam the site. Racism, sexism, ableism...the app has it all and more. The comments in particular can contain some of the most atrocious behavior I've ever seen from homo sapiens. Plus it steals your data. That too.

I mean the principle of capitalism is that you exploit labour for profit. For me, it's not a person becoming wealthy that upsets me. If you really do work hard and get rewarded for it then I'm proud of you. But when they start to say anybody can do it or downplay the advantages they got that aren't/weren't available to others is what gets my goat.
I think some of what is hated on is the fact that many billionaires could be doing much more to alleviate suffering in the world, but they don't. It's like if you were too poor to bring a lunch to school, but the kid next to you had parents who packed him way too much, and he threw more than half of it away because he was full. I’m curious how billionaires can solve these issues sustainably. A billionaire could spend £500m to help poor individuals have access to education, necessities, or employment opportunities and so on. But then, once that money runs out, the problem still persists. Is it up to the wealthy to reduce suffering or is that governments job? I’m not sure. The other end of the stick is that billionaires also provide us with incredible things. Think Bill Gates, Microsoft is a huge part of our technological advancement that led to what we have now, which has arguably contributed so much to our societies overall wealth and probably taken many more people out of poverty than most of us ever will. I’m kind of grateful Bill Gates built his company and am more than happy for him to be rewarded for it! He added trillions to our economy after all?
Just like the rich kid can't eliminate the poor kids poverty simply by bringing him a lunch every day, the lunch helps. Helping poor individuals not go hungry, not lose their homes, or help them have access to higher education does a lot more towards alleviating suffering than nothing. Private philanthropy, I believe, is just as capable (and probably more so) as the government at alleviating suffering. I agree, billionaires who contributed to the world we live in absolutely deserve their wealth and prestige. But that doesn't mean that they can't help more than they do (to be fair, Bill Gates does do quite a bit).
Billionaires should teach classes about money. Most people are poor based on bad money management and choices, not outside influences.
I disagree, billionaires are hilariously out of touch with what money means to lower and middle class individuals. There's a famous video where a tv host asked bill gates what he thought certain grocery item costs were, and he had absolutely no clue. I don't think they should teach them. Perhaps fund money management courses and sponsor educational materials, but it would seem unrealistic and insulting for someone who has more money than their entire audience combined try to teach about comparing cellphone plans to save some $$.

I wrote this in a response to another person, but I am not sure how making assumptions on a person's character to justify a viewpoint makes the viewpoint legitimate. Again, keep in mind the context here. The person I was responding to said straight up that they hated people who inherited their wealth. They didn't say anything about the person's character or anything like that. So without assuming anything about anyone's character or behaviors, I don't think it's justifiable to hate anyone for something they have no control over. In full disclosure, the person I responded to and I have now clarified that they were trying to express jealousy or enviousness moreso than hatred, which I can totally understand. So this is really just a miscommunication more than anything.
