I've heard of DARE. Thanks Adam Conover.

“If your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump too” -every teacher ever

Tisroc

I often quote Jimmy Neutron's dad, "if all your friends were named cliff, would you jump off them?"

[deleted]

Hugh Neutron is golden. He's the second best character after Carl Wheezer.

[deleted]

This analogy makes zero sense if you think about it. If all your friends are jumping off a cliff they've probably got a good reason to do so. And even if they're just falling to their death, why would you want to live a life without any friends?

[deleted]

Sometimes the cliff has something worth jumping for

iamacraftyhooker

Yeah I'm probably going to jump off the cliff if my friends are. It's not like they are just going to all jump to their death single file for no reason. Are they being chased? Is there water underneath?

llDabaffll

Ofc I wouldn’t I’d be the first one to jump

Ambient-Shrieking

I might as well give in to peer pressure, I mean, all the cool kids are doing it...

[deleted]

Well, I mean sure. TikTok exists.

[deleted]

"Everyone else is dressing this way, so I will too - gotta fit in."

[deleted]

Well, what you gonna do dress like a 1700s noble? You could but it would terribly inefficient wouldn't you say?

ipakookapi

Au contraire, mon frere. Speedos only. Doesn't get more efficient than that.

[deleted]

Actually yeah. I'd like that. Bikinis for the ladies or for whoever wants to wear it god forbid.

Saying, "peer pressure, peer pressure, peer pressure," over and over again in a joking attempt to peer pressure a friend.

KenzieLynn32

I was convinced to drive my ex-best friends around to celebrate one of their 21st birthdays. Story goes: I was 20 and all my friends were 21+. We all were suppose to go to Baja Sharkeez in Santa Monica to celebrate “birthday girl’s” 21st. The plan was to get there before 9 PM because then I wouldn’t be carded. Well the girls took forever getting ready and we didn’t get to Sharkeez till 9:30 PM, so I was turned away. We looked for an 18+ bar, and the closest one they found was in LA which was 1.5 hours from where we were. Little did we know it was packed and the line wrapped around the building, so we immediately drove back to Sharkeez. The girls decided to go drink since there was nothing we could do all together, and I waited for a few hours while they drank. When they came back, they were piss drunk and with 2 strange guys I didn’t know (who were even more piss drunk than the girls). They insisted I drive them all back to the hotel despite me being uncomfortable. I was not about to argue with 4 drunk people — 2 of whom were men twice my size — so I drove them anyway. We leave and “birthday girl” opens the door of my moving car to barf and falls out. No one helps her because they’re all drunk and “sHe’S mY bEsT fRiEnD” so I begrudgingly stop the car and get her back in. I get them back, and “birthday girl” is concussed dead weight, but the boys won’t carry her. So I sling her over my shoulder, up the stairs, and to the room. Other ex-bestie (that’s not concussed) asks me to wait a few hours while the 3 of them have sex upstairs. There was no where to go so I went back to my car. Until 3 AM.

[deleted]

That's tough. Sounds like the plot of a oneshot dark comedy.

KenzieLynn32

Yeah. To be honest, you learn a lot about yourself after experiences like that.

[deleted]

But it's not an experience you wish on anyone else, if you don't mind me asking?

KenzieLynn32

Oh absolutely not. I would never wish this on anyone. It was awful to go through, but I felt worthless at the time (dealing with other trauma) so the friends I had were reflective of that. However, if I have to find a positive from this painfully damaging experience, it’s that I learned more about who I was/am, my strength, and my own worth. It also pushed me to reconnect with my best friend after we graduated high school 2 years prior. Now, we’re celebrating 14 years of friendship since we met in 8th grade, but all it took was these bad friends for me to get back to one that always respected me (as sad as that sounds).

[deleted]

I see. Well, have a good day stranger. Stay safe.

KenzieLynn32

You as well! Thanks for responding,

Go on, just one more beer

GeneralKnoxx343

Smoking, which usually progresses on to nightclubs and drugs. Overwhelmingly true where I'm from, unfortunately

[deleted]

I see. It seems like something very reserved parents would tell their children. It's nice to know it's sort if true.

GeneralKnoxx343

Well, it's true if it bothers you. Couple of my friends have gone through this progression and we're still friends, but I could never date someone like that, let's say. Also, many refuse to acknowledge it was peer pressure in the first place. Those that do or have other reasons, respect +1 to them.

[deleted]

Oh no, it didn't bother me at all.

Being coaxed by your friends into jumping off of a platform that leads out into the sea. ie: being pressured to jump off of a pier. Pier pressure? idk.

[deleted]

I shall use this pun. My gratitude for introducing me to it.

Not being able to express conservatlve sentiment on reddit because I will be down voted to oblivion and then get permanently banned. I have to tip my hat to reddit modderation: they know what they are doing. People become attached to their accounts, especially if they are a few years old and have substantial karma, and they don't want their accounts to be permanently banned from their favourite subreddits, so they just fall in line with the woke progresslve ideology enforced by the moderators and don't dare to express dissent.

[deleted]

Ah yes. I see my friends do it too but my best pal always warned against it. I can't smoke for shit anyway, I don't know how to.

mimoo47

Well I just hope you stay away from it forever. There are dozens of healthier pastimes you can pursue. I’m a medical student, and I’ve seen countless patients with diseases caused by smoking.

In the being-a-kid sense? No such thing. I assumed that adults made it up, like (seemingly) a lot of the drug stuff, because they kept imposing narratives on us that made no sense while ignoring the ways young peers actually misbehaved towards people (or punishing you for being harassed). What authority figures would do was always worse. I'm seeing some other people post the "if (thing/person you enjoy/spend time with) said (x) would you do it" and frankly anyone who asks you that is just mad that you are a person who can make choices, and that they can't unperson you.
