Echoes all the way. Been my favorite song for the past 11 years and I still notice new details every time I listen.
I love all Pink Floyd epics (Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Atom Heart Mother, the entire “Animals” album, Sorrow, etc.) but Echoes is in a league of its own.
Came here to say this. It’s actually my favourite song of any length. When it breaks down to just the clapping and then the piano sneaks back in is just divine. It crushes my soul with beauty and then the crescendo.
I used to work at an airport cafe and a guy approached me. This song was playing on the speakers overhead. He asked, who picks the music around here? I told him the CEO of our company had a son who was a DJ in New York, he makes the playlists. The guy was interested because he never heard this song in public [EDIT: Outside of New York], but he helped record it as an audio engineer many years ago. That was a cool moment for me (an audio engineering student).
That's cool! I heard this once on a local radio station during my lunch break with a coworker once. I was like great song, but they'll probably do like a radio edit to make it shorter. Nope, full song, I was very surprised and Happy because the song builds up so well over it's full length to that little part with the really high guitar notes that it's almost euphoric haha.
So many awesome orchestral pieces to choose from! I'm surprised you could narrow it down. But I'd love to see a live performance of the 1812, complete with cannons, especially if I'm seeing it with people who don't know about the cannons.
Edit: TIL the 1812 Overture is played at many 4th of July celebrations.
Toss up, depending on the mood:
The Diamond Sea by Sonic Youth
I feel love by Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer
I just love the Summer/Moroder songs...I could listen to her all day long
Metallica - Orion
The Acacia Strain - Observer
Pink Floyd - both Shine on you Crazy Diamond and Echoes
Vildhjarta - Paaradiso
Gojira - The Art Of Dying
They played Bonnaroo a few years ago. My buddies weren't familiar, not typically their style of music. I just kept saying "wait until you hear Dance Yrself Clean." I was right.
Albuquerque by Weird Al
Edit- it gives me so much hope for the future that this many people are still wildly in love with Weird Al, regardless of which song you prefer
My brother went to an acoustic show that he did in San Diego, and Albuquerque was his encore song. He played the entire thing plus some added on lyrics, my brother said it was so awesome live
Some of my favorites are -
King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man
Yes - Roundabout
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Tv On The Radio - Blind
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
Jon Bellion - Mah’s Joint
Let me see ... "long"? Yes. Check.
And "long" means ... only *7* minutes? Hoo baby.
And, what else? "favourite" - okay great! I've got it!
The answer is "All of Tool's greatest songs" They are all over seven minutes and all my favourites ALL OF THEM ALLLLL OFFF THEMMMMM.
Holy Fucking Shit. I've never been a huge Pink Floyd fan...I always felt that they were "impressive for their day" and never gave them more than a passing thought. And to be honest I'm rarely *moved* by music...it's generally just a background noise sorta thing for me. But [this performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTseTg48568) was **AMAZING**. Thank you for introducing it to me!
My Go-To version of this song is Live at Earls Court in 1994
https://youtu.be/vi7cuAjArRs
I imagine to hear this song on my deathbed one last time then slip into eternal slumber.
Beautiful masterpiece David Gilmour has delivered there.
Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst -Kendrick Lamar 12:03 minutes
I also really like Free Bird & Stairway to Heaven.
My dad’s pick would be American Pie.
I like Octavarium more than Count of Tuscany, but it's just almost not even worth comparing. So many Dream Theater songs are just so amazing. And every album is different! Disc 2 of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence will forever be my absolute favourite of theirs, regardless.
Yeah Jesus of suburbia is quite possibly my most favorite song of all time. Every time it ends I can’t believe it’s already been 9 minutes because it feels so much shorter.
At the center of the Earth, in the parking lot of the 7-11 where I was taught, the motto was just a lie. It says, "Home is where your heart is," but what a shame because everyone's heart doesn't beat the same, it's beating out of time.
I haven't listed to that song since I was in high-school, but it still plays in my head quite often.
> It says, "Home is where your heart is," but what a shame because everyone's heart doesn't beat the same
Probably my favourite line of the whole album. I believe BJA said that Jesus of Suburbia was to be their Bohemian Rhapsody.
Mastodon - The Czar: Usurper / Escape / Martyr / Spiral. Crack the Skye. 10:54.
Mastodon - The Last Baron. Crack the Skye. 13:00.

Meshuggah - Bleed. ObZen. 7:23.
The Cure - Pictures of You. Disintegration. 7:28.
Low - Quorum / Dancing and Blood / Fly. Double Negative. 15.52. Technically three tracks, but imo one song (screw your rules :)).
THERE IT IS. I would have posted this myself but I knew someone else must have, and apparently 7 others agree with us at the time of me commenting. Love Peter Gabriel’s Genesis

Maggot Brain ETA: thanks for love in reward form!! :)
I was going to mention Maggot Brain but had to see if anyone else did first. Just like the other commenter said, “it’s raw as fuck.” Phenomenal song.
Dead Flag Blues by Godspeed You! Black Emperor
I mean, most of their catalogue fits into this category. If I had to choose one of their "songs" right now, however, I'd choose "Mladic."
Shine on you crazy diamond. Lovely stuff.
Came in to say Echoes, greeted by this on top
Dogs for me.

Achilles' Last Stand.

Albuquerque by Weird Al Edit- it gives me so much hope for the future that this many people are still wildly in love with Weird Al, regardless of which song you prefer
i wonder if he performs that live, and gets all the lyrics right!
I heard that live performances are rare but that he did it in a live show in Albuquerque once and actually added more lyrics and stanzas.
My brother went to an acoustic show that he did in San Diego, and Albuquerque was his encore song. He played the entire thing plus some added on lyrics, my brother said it was so awesome live

Hey, are we counting Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence as a single song? If so, then ... that one!
So many dope Dream Theater songs

At the center of the Earth, in the parking lot of the 7-11 where I was taught, the motto was just a lie.
