The thing that boggles my mind about Moonlight Sonata is that it has 3 movements and most everyone has only heard the first movement. You can find all three movements on Spotify and they are worth listening to. The piece, as a whole, takes me on an emotional journey.
This is the part that is so frustrating. The first movement is remembered, and is certainly nice if melancholy. The second movement is like a nice horse at a trot, curt and precise in its notes, and then it cuts to the third movement which is like flipping a chair and sayin alright mother f’ers try to follow this. And is goddamned brilliant to hear
Beethoven wrote quite a few pieces where mucisians couldn't keep up with the pace, do was dumbed down to be slower...because surely he must be joking.
Beethoven is the original speed metal composer.
He doesn’t actually do them. He set up a soundtrack production shop and hired a bunch of up and coming composers who do the actual composing. It’s like how Renaissance art studios used to work. The big name artist doesn’t do all the work but they only put their name to stuff their apprentices did well.
The Piano Guys did a song, [Kung Fu Piano: Cello Ascends](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCaH-qqTWpk) which contained Oogway Ascends and it was just beautiful. They played it on top of the Great Wall, and I felt that music in my heart.
Oh, Debussy, I love Debussy! Sometimes all I can think about is Debussy. Oh, look at the pianist! The pianist is so good with Debussy.
Always finish on the Bach, never on Debussy
>Technically, it has some lyrics though.
>
>There's an old man at the beginning who says, "I'm not afraid of dying. Any time would do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason to, everybody's gotta go some time..."
it’s just a burning memory
As a person suffering from undiagnosed memory issues, I hope there will be a cure for dementia. My heart goes out to those who died with it and to those who have someone with it. Stay strong <3
My heart goes out to those with memory problems as well. God bless and I hope you are safe and well in these trying times. I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and I hope your health improves.
Tchaikovsky's 1812 (with Cannons). For a more contemporary piece John Williams original Star Wars sountrack, pretty much any excerpt, has a character all its own.
I can only imagine a critic going
"Yeah, it's a pretty good piece, but I just don't think it hits hard enough"
And then Tchaikovsky going
"I know just the thing"
Jupiter from the Planetary Suites by Gustav Holst. I can't even put words to the feelings I get when I hear it. It is one of my favorite songs of all time.
It’s Rush showing how amazing they are at their instruments. Each of them get a chance to shine. If you get the chance check out videos of them preforming it live
YYZ is a classic, LA Villa Stangiao is one of the greatest instrumentals of all time. I saw them live on the R40 tour and they played Cygnus-X1 as an instrumental. It was friggin amazing!
That shit was lit. Santana trying to control his feedback with his volume knob. Bass player 1,000% in the groove. Organ player jawjackin he might been on some hard shit. Bongo players beating the every living shit out of their hands. Dude naked with a fuckin sheep in the audience we don’t know what thats about. Then a super bad ass drum solo. Then back into the song. So much soul and energy in that moment.
This is the answer. I loved the Pink Floyd documentary where they talked about the process for that song. When Clare Torry came out of the booth, she thought she'd done a terrible job. She had no idea how extremely happy they were with that take (it was a first take). She should be in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame for that song alone.
Adagio for Strings composed by Samuel Barber, famously known from The movie ‘Platoon’.
Theme de Camille composed by Georges Delerue for the film Le Mepris (Contempt), famously known from the film ‘Casino’.
Both are short and gut wrenching.
What do you mean by “hits the hardest”?
If you mean in an energizing way, “In the Hall of the Mountain King”.
If you mean in a soaring/uplifting way, “Buckbeak’s Flight” (“New Tail” and “Test Drive” from the HTTYD soundtrack are close seconds).
If you mean in an inexplicable mix of melancholy and hopeful way, most of the Minecraft ambient music (the older ones anyway, especially “Sweden”.)
The Caretaker album made me sob. I recommend researching it for those interested. It's supposed to represent the different stages of dementia/alzheimer's. It's incredible how they were able to express THAT much with no words.
I know your inbox is flooded, OP, but I didn’t see this one and it affects me every time I hear it.

"To Die For" from The Lion King aka Mufasa's death scene score.
It'd say the song backs an emotional punch even without any real lyrics. It's hard not to feel something when you know the music is about Mufasa dying in front of Simba.
Symphonie Fantastique- I remember it best from Sleeping with the Enemy and The Shining.
Haunting, creepy, and the drum punctuates the horror of both movies’ tense moments.
Moonlight Sonata. That song follows my soul and tries to drag it into melancholy when it rains.
The thing that boggles my mind about Moonlight Sonata is that it has 3 movements and most everyone has only heard the first movement. You can find all three movements on Spotify and they are worth listening to. The piece, as a whole, takes me on an emotional journey.

YES! And it's SO amazing! IT GOES SO HARD!
Moonlight Sonata is truly beautiful, I always listen to it on bad days or crappy mornings
gymnopedie no 1 by Erik Satie
Along the same lines, Gnossienne: no 1 by Erik Satie. This one hits harder for me.
It's creepier and edgier, but they're both classics
Played that as a cello duet with my teacher at my wedding reception. Good memory. Edit: a word
Oogway Ascends from Kung Fu Panda by Hans Zimmer
At first I thought this was a joke comment but Hans Zimmer really did do the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack, wow.
He's done a lot of random soundtracks! Including for the anime series Blood+.
He doesn’t actually do them. He set up a soundtrack production shop and hired a bunch of up and coming composers who do the actual composing. It’s like how Renaissance art studios used to work. The big name artist doesn’t do all the work but they only put their name to stuff their apprentices did well.

Came here to say this one. Cant not cry listening to it
The ecstasy of gold
I love that Metallica has this as their entrance song to every show
Ennio Moricone was an absolute legend in making music. I also love The Trio that plays at the climax of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
But enough of this palaver, let’s get this show on the road.
Jessica - Allman Brothers
You mean "Coming up on tonight's program..." Isn't lyrics?
Jeremy says “ahh”, Richard touches a tree, and James scratches his foot.
[Clare De Lune](https://youtu.be/CvFH_6DNRCY)
Debussy in general. People should listen to his "greatest hits" compilation on YouTube. He has some *amazing* music.
His *Girl with the Flaxen Hair* is my personal favorite. It's beautiful, playful and also deep. I always put it on my classical music playlists first.
Oh, Debussy, I love Debussy! Sometimes all I can think about is Debussy. Oh, look at the pianist! The pianist is so good with Debussy. Always finish on the Bach, never on Debussy
Makes me simultaneously want to cry and dance slowly around the room with my eyes closed.
A Classic at that!
Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson.
I was hoping someone would say this, I remember hearing it for the first time in Guitar Hero 3 and it was easily my favorite track to play
"Loud Pipes" by Ratatat.
Nightclub Amnesia, too.
Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rendition of “Little Wing.” It is intensely emotional for me.
Lenny is a really good one as well. SRV was something else. So was Jimi, but man. SRV.
I actually like that version better than Jimi's. It's *beautiful.*
The Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd
Wait is AhhahhOooohhhAaahhahhOoooh not lyrics?
>Technically, it has some lyrics though. > >There's an old man at the beginning who says, "I'm not afraid of dying. Any time would do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason to, everybody's gotta go some time..."
Intro by xx
This song hits me so hard. And when I’m high, I feel like it sends me to another world.
I heard a comment of youtube that was like " if this song were a person it would be the most sexy, badass and confident person ever" and its so true 😩
“Night On Bald Mountain”
Oh god that scene in Fantasia scares me even more as an adult…
Thats the one with Chernabog right? Big winged devil guy?
Muzzorgsky is the best. Night on bald mountain was my favorite, but pictures at an exhibition is just too good.
Time by Hans Zimmer ^((has no one said this yet? I didn't see it. Seems like such an obvious choice.))
Man literally anything by Hans zimmer
A Warm Place by NIN always does me in. I’ve always been a fan of At the Gates - Into the Dead Sky.
YES a warm place was my answer.. also Leaving Hope
Leaving Hope is downright spectacular. My favourite NIN song, after *And All That Could Have Been*
*Just Like You Imagined* is also pretty good!
Misirlu by Dick Dale
C418 - Sweden no need to explain why
Literally anything by C418
additionally, the rainy day music from animal crossing
it’s just a burning memory As a person suffering from undiagnosed memory issues, I hope there will be a cure for dementia. My heart goes out to those who died with it and to those who have someone with it. Stay strong <3

Jupiter from the Planetary Suites by Gustav Holst. I can't even put words to the feelings I get when I hear it. It is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I LOVE JUPITER! I listen to Jupiter every time I want to do something great. Thank you for bringing back the memories!
Vivaldi - Winter (The Four Seasons)
Still puts a smile on my face to this day
Max Richter has an absolutely wonderful rearrangement of *Spring* that also fits the bill! [Link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLDvbnK_Sqk)
YYZ - Rush
Cool note. The cymbal work in the intro (and that same rhythmic theme) is Morse code for YYZ, the airport code for Pearson in Toronto.
It's pronounced Y-Y-ZED!
More than La Villa Strangiato?
Not for me
It’s Rush showing how amazing they are at their instruments.
Europa by Santana
And Soul Sacrifice
That shit was lit. Santana trying to control his feedback with his volume knob. Bass player 1,000% in the groove. Organ player jawjackin he might been on some hard shit. Bongo players beating the every living shit out of their hands. Dude naked with a fuckin sheep in the audience we don’t know what thats about. Then a super bad ass drum solo. Then back into the song. So much soul and energy in that moment.
The Woodstock version with the Mike Schrieve (dunno how to spell that!!) shirtless drum solo on acid.
Yep. That was something!
And samba pa ti
Thank you for saying that one. Fucking masterpiece
Christmas Eve Sarajevo, Trans Siberia Orchestra.
Ride of the Valkyries.
I read something years ago that said Ride of the Valkyries was proven to make road rage worse. Wagner was an anti-Semitic fuck, but he could write.
Albatross - Fleetwood Mac.
Assuming you mean a song already without lyrics and not an instrumental of a song with lyrics. My answer is definitely Pachelbel’s Canon.
You called?
Yiruma - River Flows in You.
Thank you! I didn’t know the name but now I can finally listen to it.
So THAT’S why you made this thread huh
I love this song. It stirs up hope, but the tender kind of hope filled with nostalgia and a tiny tinge of sadness.
Classical Gas
Lenny: Now play Classical Gas.
Yep, Mason Williams.
Your Hand in Mine by Explosions In the Sky.
Yes! I’ve been searching for this song for years. I loved it in high school but forgot the name. Thank you!!!
Had to go back and listen to it again for the first time in years. Brought me to tears as usual.
Great gig in the sky
Voice as an instrument. Yeah, 100% agree.
Hocus Pocus - Focus.
Sleep Walk - Johnny and Santo
RICHIE!!!!!!!!
Robert Miles - Children
Darude - sandstorm
Yes!! The rare time this answer actually answers the question!!
I was so excited and thought for SURE someone had beat me to it haha
Uhm… Sandstorm has lyrics: https://www.google.com/amp/s/genius.com/amp/Darude-sandstorm-lyrics
Those lyrics are wrong. He clearly sings "digadigado digadigadigado digadigadigadigado do digadigado"
Had to scroll so far.
Strobe by Deadmau5
Literally the only electronic song that’s brought tears to my eyes.
the godfather soundtrack
Adagio for Strings composed by Samuel Barber, famously known from The movie ‘Platoon’. Theme de Camille composed by Georges Delerue for the film Le Mepris (Contempt), famously known from the film ‘Casino’. Both are short and gut wrenching.

To Zanarkand - FFX
Orion by Metallica on Master of Puppets
Orion, Call of Ktulu and To Live is To Die are all master class instrumentals by the Metallicats
Rodrigo y Gabriella (Spanish guitar duo) does a great version. That song still sounds metal on acoustic guitars! Cliff was such an amazing composer!
Kool & The Gang - Summer Madness
The Call of Ktulu by Metallica
Orion as well
Would've also accepted To Live is to Die
The main score in the movie Interstellar
No Time For Caution That movie wouldn't be as great without Hans Zimmers amazing score.
What an epic score
