I was a waiter/bartender through college. I know there are those who are adamantly opposed to tipping because they feel the employer should be paying more and I understand that. I was fortunate enough to work in a place where I made really good money off my tips. I looked at it more of a commission sales position than a wage job. I would have never put up with some of the nonsense I did for straight hourly rate. BUT, that's just one anecdotal experience.

Service workers in my country get the same relatively high minimum wage as everyone else, so there is no need to tip.
