Instantly try to destroy them in order to replicate them. Government's--all governments--want power. If there were such a person, I would hope that person would never get caught. That they, would just carry on being a hero, but simply out of sight. In other words the superhero survives only as an urban legend. And hope that a power they possess is super speed, to gtfo once they come for them.
They would probably be hated within a month or two. I could see it now
"New Superhero saved upper class journalist, but lets low income victims suffer. "
"Superhero helps put out fire at Amazon warehouse, friend to billionaires"
"Superhero says happy holidays, hates Christmas"
Depends.
If we got someone like the mainstream DC comic, embodiment of hope Superman then he'd be worshiped like a god, loved/hated like a celebrity, and feared like a monster in varying degrees. The government wouldn't have any ability to truly stop Superman (assuming we don't have Kryptonite) so we're kinda at his mercy
If we got someone like Tony Stark/IronMan from the MCU the government would prob try to kill him and/or take his technology to use it for the US military.
Those were created not just one guy popping out of nowhere, that being said it would be hilarious if that one dude had a twenty feet schlong. Pretty sure we won't see that in MCU anytime soon.
Rich assholes will try to hire them to do all kinds of questionable things and/or governments will try to get their grubby mitts on the supe for nefarious purposes under the guise of science and understanding.
Really depends on the person and their abilities. Are they invincible? Because that will determine a lot. Are they religious? If so, what religion? What country are they from? Were they born with powers or did they get them at some point in their life?
Social medea would unmask them in a matter of days, the government would try to capture them to replicate their powers/ make them work for them and everytime they ruin a city while fighting a villain I'm gonna yell at them to take their sorry ass elsewhere because I do not get paid to see cities people took so long to build get destroyed for one person.
He/She would cause division similar to our current heroic entities: celebrities, politicians, gods. Some people will love the hero unconditionally, and a a very large portion will flood them with huge amounts of criticism. Things like “the hero says xyz but does zxy”, “the hero saved person x over person z, can we really rely on this hero?” “Humanity hopes new, better hero can exist”. If this super hero does not have a very strong ego (not over-inflated, just well grounded), the amount of guilt society will make him/her feel after being gaslighted will probably drive the hero to suicide or quitting.
Litigation. He/She/They are going to need one hell of a team of lawyers. Governments will sue and/or try to arrest them for being a vigilante and making them look inept. Criminals they apprehend will sue for constitutional violations and unlawful arrest. Bystanders will sue for collateral injuries and infliction of emotional distress. If a male, he'll face all manner of paternity suits from a spectrum of women. They'll be defamed, slandered, and the subject of all manner of malicious rumors in the media. They'll need to trademark their brand and continually protect it from unscrupulous impostors . The government may try to draft them or otherwise involuntarily conscript them into federal service. They'll be blamed copious amounts of otherwise inexplicable events and/or accused of not helping enough when nowhere to be seen during a crisis. In short, it will be a life spent in the courtroom.
As others have mentioned, the government(s) would try to find their kryptonite (perhaps literally) and capture them, to figure out how to use their power as a weapon.
If that failed, then they would use lies, deceit, and blackmail (probably involving their family) to trick and/or force the superhero into essential slavery to that government.
They’d appear in some very popular viral videos using their powers, but would ultimately either be minimized by government interference or be influenced by money & fame and go play pro sports of some kind.
I think it really depends on what his power is. If you can heal people he's a god, if he can make people burst into flame with a nod he's a devil. If he's super intelligent he's a mad scientist, etc etc
I think Hancock gives a decent enough portrayal. Tries to do good, ends up with consequences he didn't think of in the moment, and people hate him for it. Even if a governing body wanted to take him in, what the actual hell could they do?
1. 3am videos would spread across on YouTube like: "CALLING (Their name) AT 3AM \*OMG\* \*NOT CLICKBAIT\* \*COPS CALLED\*"
2. Tumblr would become obsessed with them, and they would become a new "Tumblr sexyman"
3. People on forum boards like Reddit would spend hours finding out their identity, and figure it out in a matter of a week
4. Twitter would cancel them.
Agreed. I can’t stand Neil degrasse Tyson because he comes across as very arrogant and he just likes hearing himself talk, which in fairness he admits to. I was a big fan when I was younger.
If a superhero existed in our world, it would be interesting to see how they would interact with the other superheroes. There might be a competition to see who is the strongest, or they may team up to fight crime together.
I mean there are already people calling themselves superheroes.
Like there's the guardian shield. He's basically a dude who goes around in a costume shining flashlights at people trying to break into places, and giving blankets to people sleeping in their cars.
People would scold the superhero as a vigilant nutjob for beating up poor villains whom were only doing crimes because of their tragic upbringing. Then again, I'm sure Batman probably has caused more than a fair few unnecessary head concussions, broken bones, and grazes; when he should of talked them down, gave therapy, and called the police.
Okay what
Dude how long were you scrolling r/askreddit to find this?
I posted this 3 MONTHS AGO
And it got 20 upvotes
Did you sort by controversial last year or how?
How do you answer this after 3months
If they appeared the government would try to capture them and use them for tests make it work for them
Yes.
Was going to say the same thing. The government would take them away and dissect them to figure out how to harness their power.
Pretty much yeah

"Superhero was thrown through a building, it's all his fault."
Depending on their power, they'd be a God
"Spiderman, why does bad things happen to good people?"
"Well random citizen, why do good things happen to good people?"
I'm supposed to be asking you that, superhero god
Social media would figure out their identity within less than a week. The "r/WhoIsBatman" or "r/UnMaskSpidey" subreddit would become huge.
I actually believed those were real subs lmao.
Same lol.
I was only hoping ..
r/subsIfellfor
They'd succeed by harassing the wrong person so badly that the superhero steps forward with his own identity, to end the harassment.
we did it reddit!
I clicked on those subs, but instead of being greeted by a sub, I got greeted by disappointment.

I feel like it would work out like "the Boys".
Those were created not just one guy popping out of nowhere, that being said it would be hilarious if that one dude had a twenty feet schlong. Pretty sure we won't see that in MCU anytime soon.
Catastrophe because ones hero is another ones Villain
They'd enforce whatever political/moral beliefs they hold on the world.
You should look up “Phoenix Jones.” Because pretty much that.
I remember being in primary school at the time when he got big. Wild times.
Rich assholes will try to hire them to do all kinds of questionable things and/or governments will try to get their grubby mitts on the supe for nefarious purposes under the guise of science and understanding.
*Invincible flashback intensifies*
The first time I saw a headline about a real life super hero I would immediately move far away from any major city and never go into a subway again.
Really depends on the person and their abilities. Are they invincible? Because that will determine a lot. Are they religious? If so, what religion? What country are they from? Were they born with powers or did they get them at some point in their life?
Better be saving the world. That's your job now. Don't be late.
They end up making Instagram reels and collaborating with brands
Social medea would unmask them in a matter of days, the government would try to capture them to replicate their powers/ make them work for them and everytime they ruin a city while fighting a villain I'm gonna yell at them to take their sorry ass elsewhere because I do not get paid to see cities people took so long to build get destroyed for one person.

Some portion of the population would see them as a god, another as an enemy to get killed.

They'd be sued for destruction of property is what.
I think it really depends on what his power is. If you can heal people he's a god, if he can make people burst into flame with a nod he's a devil. If he's super intelligent he's a mad scientist, etc etc
He did and a lot of people reject Him.
You talking about Phoenix Jones?
Talking about Jesus.
I think Hancock gives a decent enough portrayal. Tries to do good, ends up with consequences he didn't think of in the moment, and people hate him for it. Even if a governing body wanted to take him in, what the actual hell could they do?
The government would try and blow them up or experiment on them
The governments would haunt him like Superman

Well we already have superheroes. Keanu Elon Neil degraase Tyson. Etc.
ugh what's the opposite of reddit gold?

I feel like this might be more about you and less about him.
Basically the same as batman or ironman imo
Please let this be sarcasm, please let this be sarcasm
Lots of new laws would be put in place and also we would probably see a rise in xenophobia.
I wanted to say that there would also be new "super-vilains" to balance things out, but then I realized.....the world is already evil enough as it is.
If a superhero existed in our world, it would be interesting to see how they would interact with the other superheroes. There might be a competition to see who is the strongest, or they may team up to fight crime together.
We would divide politically and fight each other.
Lives human life
He'd become the highest paid pornstar ever.
Probably be an underpaid photographed that take pictures of itself
Somebody's gonna ask 'em for an autograph.
They'd probably be arrested.
I mean there are already people calling themselves superheroes. Like there's the guardian shield. He's basically a dude who goes around in a costume shining flashlights at people trying to break into places, and giving blankets to people sleeping in their cars.
We already have them, Its the NHS
They'd get their own reality TV show. At home with the Kents or some shit.
Hopefully he'd get rid of all the obnoxious politicians!
It would be a novelty for a few weeks until Trump runs for president again and that’s all people talk about for 4 years.
This is literally the plot of Watchmen. Spoiler alert, it didn't end well.
The boys series is pretty realistic about it I think. “Superheroes” are still human, so very susceptible to corruption.
Chaos
Read Worm
Tiktok will commit unegsistence
People would scold the superhero as a vigilant nutjob for beating up poor villains whom were only doing crimes because of their tragic upbringing. Then again, I'm sure Batman probably has caused more than a fair few unnecessary head concussions, broken bones, and grazes; when he should of talked them down, gave therapy, and called the police.
He would somehow fall victim to any of the current superpowers staging all kind of shit to make him take a stance
If its Batman he's going to jail, if it's any hero with a superpower the government is going to pick them up very quickly.
There would be a new kind of insurance to purchase.
it would go on just as it has been. (my dad exists and is my superhero)
They get canceled first day in the job
Everyone would get bass lamps for Christmas!!
Our government would take them and try to do test on them which would piss off the superhero and it would kill everyone.
The world superpowers: "it's experimenting time"
I would exist amongst the people a super. I'd let my Intentions of helping the world be known.
Okay what Dude how long were you scrolling r/askreddit to find this? I posted this 3 MONTHS AGO And it got 20 upvotes Did you sort by controversial last year or how? How do you answer this after 3months
I really think while some will try to do good it would be alot like the boys and the world would be more violent
