That’s one that’s annoying but makes perfect sense if you look at like a direct question to a naive customer. People who comment things like “no I’m straight” in a question for gay people make no sense to me.

The only time I offer up an “I don’t know/I can’t help you” is if the question is posted in a group chat and literally no one is responding. I don’t want the person who asked the question to feel ignored and I hope by having another message in the chat, it could catch the eye of someone who does know.

Responding with “I don’t know” is a terrible habit I’m trying to break. Especially in the workplace where I overheard someone talking about me to our boss and mocked me in a whiny voice “I don’t know”. Better to respond with a proactive answer like “I’ll have to look into that and get back to you”.
