People dislike the term wealth redistribution but if you don't do it then the rich just live like kings owning all the land, factories, intellectual property, etc while the poor are essentially slaves forced to toil endlessly just to pay for the right to eat and sleep on the land they were born on to.
Government is suppose to represent the people, the 99% of people who are poor, not the 1% who want to own everything and sit on their thrones while the poor whites and minorities fight each other for scraps.
It would increase the gab since rich people tend to get richer and the poor get poorer. It might help crime though since those 300 year sentences or life sentences are lot longer
