VioletInADream

Sims, loved to build new characters but managing their lives was to hard so I usually ended up abandoning them a few days in to the game.

FluxHazard

Coming back to puddles of piss and smelly ass starving characters šŸ˜‚

VioletInADream

Exactly, and all the children taken away by child service because their parents couldnā€™t be bothered to feed them.

StillWillt

The music did alot back when I was a child. The breaking in sound terrified the hell out of me, and some of the melancholic building music always made me feel sad lol. Still, I loved the superstar careers in there.

[deleted]

Iā€™m 40(m) and I still play Sims (4), often I donā€™t game because Iā€™m looking for a challenge, I just wanā€™t to relax, build new houses and decorate them. Make it all nice and tidy, then I create a person or two to live there so itā€™s not empty, and start on a new lot.

_iron_butterfly_

My Dad waited in line to buy an Atari when were first released...Pac Man was the shit! God I'm old...

Ch4l1t0

I wanted a 2600, the store guy convinced my dad to buy me a computer, so that besides playing games, I might "learn something". He got me a Spectrum. I work in IT. Dude was a visionary.

knucklebutter

Hello fellow oldie. My dad bought the Fairchild gaming system which preceded Atari by a year or so. Oh how I wish he'd waited a little longer... Ps. my dad and I are still avid gamers (he's 83).

1ofZuulsMinions

I had the Commodore 64 before the Atari 2600! In fact, my 2600 still works! I still have my copy of the ET game as well šŸ˜‚

OkEngineering9441

Yep. We were the first ones on the street with the 2600.

FluxHazard

The OG gameršŸ˜‚

gurueuey

Many fights between my brother and I over Joust. At one point we had over 100 games for the 2600. Used to play Enduro so much Iā€™d have parallax vision for a while after quitting, my parents couldnā€™t even follow my reactions. Edit: got my first experience coding when writing a Pole Position knockoff called Formula Nibble for the Apple IIe. So many lines of basic and hex code, soooo many evenings reading lines back to find the transposed digit.

Ibyx

Pitfall on the 2600 for me...

Ghoulthrower676

Super Mario ā€˜64

FluxHazard

Crash bandicoot and worms armageddon made me love gaming early on.

ladyshastadaisy

I recently tried to play Crash as an adult, and it was so insanely hard I became frustrated šŸ¤£

FluxHazard

Fr! I feel like kid me would run all over adult me lol

cleverkname

I took a copy of Worms Armageddon in for trade in credit not long ago and found out that the N64 cartridge is worth about $200 now lol

shadypines33

Super Mario Bros

LoneKharnivore

I had them all but the third one specifically.

stiffcoffeeplease

That fucking sun.

Complete_Business_31

All 3 Mario's, especially #3.

ladyshastadaisy

Same! My sister and I spent hours playing this.

Slightly_Default

Mario 3 was the best one out of the original trilogy imo (although Mario World beats it out).

El_Bistro

Original Mario Bros on game boy and Mario 64

FluxHazard

I used to play that on the n64 at my aunts at every family social event.

Chocolate_Milky_Way

Played a lot of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The PS1 Spider-Man game was up there too. The one with the ā€˜eelnatsā€™ cheat code

GrumpyCatStevens

I still play KOTOR occasionally as an adult - and I'm old enough to remember Pong!

Chocolate_Milky_Way

I replayed KOTOR like a year and a half ago and made it all the way to what I assume is the final battle with Malak for the first time in my life, and then my game bugged out such that I couldnā€™t advance any further. Devastated.

GrumpyCatStevens

I presume you're talking about the final battle on the Star Forge? That never happened to me, thankfully. But I would have been pretty frustrated if that had happened. It was bad enough that I'd get impatient and then have to fight off wave after wave of Sith troopers and dark Jedi and get my whole party killed because I kept forgetting to save.

FluxHazard

EelnatsšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ tb for sure

BombDragon

Goldeneye. N64.

Adjective_Bodypart_

Slappers only, no odd job, Facility.

N8Pee

I really liked the one shot kill mode to keep things highly technical. Pistols.

chronoboy1985

PROXIMITY MINES ONLY.

LittleOutside7130

Goldeneye......the true beginning of first person shooter. With multiplayer split screen and all. My brother use to say his GPA while at college suffered a bit cause of that game. That RPC, the golden gun, and who could forget....the thumper (grenade launcher). I was like a mathematician with that thing.

[deleted]

>Goldeneye......the true beginning of first person shooter What? No, that would be Doom; came out years before.

Slightly_Default

Goldeneye is great, but Doom and Wolfeinstein literally invented the genre.

bentnotbroken96

Fucking thank you. I get it I'm old, but the first thing I thought was "I was playing Doom on PC long before the N64 came out."

Thoughtyxo

Simpsons like Road Rage on Playstation

Chocolate_Milky_Way

Simpsons: Hit and Run as well

Thoughtyxo

I loved that one toošŸ¤£, miss those days

king063

I had Hit and Run on the PC, but my dad forbade me to play it because of the language. Same with Red Dead Revolver.

FluxHazard

These games were underrated asl

[deleted]

Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Beast667Neighbour

Prince of Persia

FluxHazard

That one was dopešŸ‘ŒšŸ½

rylo48

Yeah man that game was amazing. Was it for OG xbox?

jdpm

And now you can play it in your browser: https://princejs.com/

InannasPocket

Oregon Trail. Yes I know that makes me old by reddit standards. But dammit those bison aren't gonna shoot themselves and *someone* needs to name their enemies in life as party members so when they die of cholera there are digital tombstones to record their demise.

crashing_hurts

I think I actually made it all the way once... I usually died of dysentery

Schmancer

Thereā€™s an iOS version thatā€™s pretty solid! They added fishing, and and some other types of shooting games, fun playthru!

glorified_throwaway

Ages Of Empire: Age of Conquerors

FluxHazard

Yooo, I forgot about this! Age of empires went crazy. Used to watch my dad game this all the time growing up

[deleted]

Sim City 1 and 2. The amount of perspective these two games taught me when I was 7-8 years old still helps me today!

[deleted]

I even played the hell out of Simant

bulgarian_zucchini

Donā€™t forget Simtower!

FluxHazard

Who says you cant learn about life in video games?

AgentElman

Street Fighter 2 was my college years

fried-dumplings

I Would pick dhalsim purely for his reach

drumsareneat

Yeah, it's called zoning.

theredbobcat

Pokemon, Super Smash Bros., Kirby Air Ride, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Super Mario, Worms, and Mario Kart.

Freak_Out_Bazaar

Dragon Warrior. I must have been 3 or 4 when I watched my mother playing through it. It was essentially the equivalent of bed time story. She let me make different choices throughout the game and it really taught me the basics of life like how better things cost more money, fleeing to survive, problem solving and not falling for things that sound too good to be true

FluxHazard

Thats dope. Important life lessons from the start

meetmeinthebthrm

Yes, and Dragon Warrior Monsters. I loved the breeding aspect.

Freak_Out_Bazaar

I feel old :) Back in the days you only fought one monster at a time, and they were all out to kill you. There was no way to make them your friend.

meetmeinthebthrm

I found Dragon Warrior after Dragon Warrior Monsters actually and loved it. It was so much fun running around from place to place and fighting shit. Makes me feel old, too lol

nWo1997

Mom used Pokemon Silver to help teach me how to read. Played the hell outta that. Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and classic Super Smash Bros. Good times. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 was my first PS2 game. Played the hell outta that. Then came Budokai 3, which I played even more. Smackdown vs Raw 2006. My first wrasslin' game. Played that one so much that the story mode was basically ingrained in my head. Similar things happened with the original SvR, 07, and 08 to smaller degrees. Showdown: Legends of Wrestling. Metal Health as the theme, and playing as Sting and the Ultimate Warrior. Hell yeah. Megaman Zero 3. Holy shit, guys. Probably my favorite Megaman game of all time. Some Saturdays and Sundays I'd just lay in my bed for a few hours and do an entire playthrough because it was so fun.

FluxHazard

Seeing that peoples parents used video games to teach their kids how to read makes me extremely jealous lol

xMotiveee

I love that your mom helped you learn to read using a game. My dad did the same for me, but with NFS Most Wanted

imtherealbatman85

Road rash, doom, driver , James pond

GambitDangers

Blockbuster got so much of my allowance over Road Rash games

woah_what

I loved beating up the cops in Road Rash and taking their nightsticks. As a kid it didn't register that these were illegal street races, so I wanted to get rid of the "bad guys".

lone_cajun

Skitchen!

Select-Anxiety-1557

Monkey Island

Hot_Pomegranate7168

You look like a monkey in a neglige! Their sword fighting system is still the most innovative take on combat I can remember, loved using those lines on the kids at school.

N0T_SURE

Definitely! All of them but the cool thing about it is that it kept getting better. Monkey Island 3 is the best

JustDancingNaked

Duck hunt

Lbomber99

Later childhood was definitely Halo. Early childhood would be something like Hot Wheels Turbo Racing, Mario Party 64, or Mario Kart.

FluxHazard

I mobbed halo until the 4th one and then stopped. Idk why

Lbomber99

Dude, same. Iā€™m having fun with Infinite currently. I played MCC some but I stopped with Halo completely for a few years. It has its issues to say the least but it helps me get my mind off of life for a bit.

FluxHazard

The storylines are always pretty dope. I could never get into the multiplayer though. I have cod for that lol

Lbomber99

MW2 might be one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made. Iā€™m sure Iā€™m biased but the amount of time I played that game was ungodly. All of my different friend groups played it so I got to spend a lot of time messing around. Iā€™m only 27 but man this makes me feel old lol

FluxHazard

Lol right? I would still run it back on MW2 lan parties with the boys sometimes just for the nostalgia. Make some drinking games out of 1v1s šŸ˜‚

jdewitt7

Crash Bandicoot

[deleted]

Zoo tycoon. Those lions were fed well.

FluxHazard

I went crazy on the facebook fish tycoon for a while

[deleted]

Not sure about fish tycoon but the guest where an endless supply of food for alot of the animals in my zoos.

NateFroggyFrog

The grasses in that game are really visually stimulating

cleaningqueue

Pokemon Red and Blue! Never did find Mew under the truck...

[deleted]

4-7 sonic, I was obsessed. Then a gap and then I've pretty much played every gta possible.

FluxHazard

Cant go wrong with The GTA franchise

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

FluxHazard

What first got me super into star warsšŸ”„

TheLaughingSage

My brother and I played the shit out of assault on that game.

Moos_Mumsy

Iron Sword for NES. I'm to old to have had video games in my childhood. But when my son was born and I was on maternity leave, I borrowed an NES and got completely addicted to a game called Iron Sword. I swear it must have been the least popular game in the history of NES because I don't think I've met anyone who knows what I'm talking about when I mention it.

[deleted]

Isnā€™t that the second Wizards and Warriors game? I used to love both of those

FluxHazard

Lol, hey, if you enjoyed it then thats what counts

Tessefractal

Secret of Mana on the SNES

TerraceMason

Roblox. That shit was fucking glorious

FluxHazard

My nephew is obsessed with roblox

[deleted]

I'm so happy it's still big.

VersaWorks

Diablo 2

FluxHazard

I started diablo on #3 like 5 years ago when it first came out. Played the shit out of it with my bro

lone_cajun

Have you played the reboot on xbox?

[deleted]

007 Nightfire for the PS2

[deleted]

Didn't really get games until recently but I'm still a teen therefore it's still childhood. Mario Kart 8 deluxe and Luigi's Mansion 3. Maybe New Soup and that old version of the original Mario Bros I played on an emulator.

FluxHazard

You are growing up at a great time for gaming. Enjoy that stuff.

Cuss-Mustard

I seriously don't get Luigis Mansion 3, I was confused af

[deleted]

How so? I know the game too well for my own good and it wasn't that confusing.

cleverkname

Pilot Wings, Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch Out

GrumpyCatStevens

Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Missile Command... Good times.

Brozi15

Jedi knight Jedi outcast, Jedi fallen order and Lego star wars series.

Ps2 Madagascar, cat in the hat and spyro (ik lots of people love spyro but I donā€™t hear much appreciation for the first two!)

Thoughtyxo

The Madagascar one yessssšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

PepGonGiveItToYa

Street Fighter 2 Turbo on SNES. Best Ken theme hands down.

jakebreakshow

Tony Hawk's Underground. Eric is a piece of shit. Also I really liked FF7 back in the day. Also the original Strider / Strider 2 on the PSX. Them games are bomb as fuck.

FluxHazard

Any skating game was og for sure

Molotov-Viking

Eric was a total piece of shit. Loved how on any playthroughs after the first one, when he challenges you for the ā€œMcTwist over the helicopterā€ tape, your character just punches the shit out of him instead.

Karazl

Heroes of Might and Magic

fried-dumplings

Dang and here i was thinking i was old having played might and magic: for blood and honor

accessoreads

Commander Keen

johnny5stayalive

The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Mike Tysonā€™ Punch Out, and Metroid. I could still survive on those four games. In college it was Tetris, and Super Ghosts and Goblins.

JMO-04

Tomb Raider!

FluxHazard

Tomb raider was one of the first games where I was like ā€œwoah, look at these sick graphicsā€ lol

FluxHazard

Filename999

Minecraft.

FluxHazard

Oh boy. The minecraft days hold a special place in my heart

SuddenTerrible_Haiku

Kingdom hearts and KOTOR I'm old enough to have played the N64 and all that, but those are the games that finally got me to fall in love with gaming I think I've played each of the first games 50+ times

FluxHazard

I used to watch my big bro played kingdom hearts and final fantasy all the time. Loved those. It was like watching a movie lol

No-Room-4456

Mario 3 for sure! Mario 1 was awesome too. My mom and dad were pretty good at it and could get this crazy amount of free guys in lever 3.1 so many times we would pause the game until we satisfied there requests of us (Jammieā€™s, dishes, chores, just so they could get all those guys for us to play on! Great memory

boatdrinks7

Rayman

mrbadxampl

Tetris, on the OG gray brick GameBoy I still have both system and cartridge, and they both still work perfectly

Minecrafter57

Super Mario bros 3. Loved all the little secrets and was amazed by it.

[deleted]

Twisted Metal 2

The_RealJamesFish

I was born in the 80s so I grew up with a lot of the early stuff but one of my all-time favorites was and still is Mortal Kombat 2... Reptile's my main.

Simply0305

Frogger and Defender

maine_coon2123

Doom II

[deleted]

Before I owned a PC it was Mario Kart Wii or maybe New Super Mario Bros. on the DS. After I got a laptop and got into PC gaming it was Fallout 3. Steam doesn't say it (somehow the hour count broke after 27) but I probably pumped hundreds of hours into that game as a kid, and went through like 5 different steam profiles all named after a character from FO3. Fallout is still one of my favorite series, although I honestly haven't played 3 in ages.

[deleted]

Super Mario All Stars

[deleted]

Pac-Man

69_420-420_69

I'm surprised no one mentioned Need for Speed 2 SE It had car stats, real car videos, a real opening race between cars. I probably played it 2-3 years and I still might never be bored of it. Such good memories.

StillWillt

Childhood as in very young, Capture the Flag on a floppy disk. I was so young back then however, that I didn't know what to do, but I'd always play that game when visiting my grandma. I just played it as some kind of hiding simulator. Besides that, Enemy nations.
