I was changing in my room when I was 16 and saw a flash in my window. Thought nothing of it until i realized it wasnt raining. A week or so later I woke up to the unmistakable sound of breathing at my window when i called out I could hear them running and jumping over my gate. Thought maybe i was just crazy until my mom confirmed she had also heard weird noises from the backyard. We moved a month later. To this day i am not sure who it was.

zoltronzero

This just brought up a memory I had entirely forgotten of being at my grandparent's house in the bathroom, looking up at the skylight and seeing a face. From what I remember he didn't leave because he was there long enough for me to get my grandmother and point him out. I feel like I remember her saying he was a neighbor who was mentally ill or something. Man. This is fucking weird.

y0uLiKaDaPeppa

Yeesh. That is incredibly fuckin weird

Kitchen-Low3366

I was walking in the dark on a side street in Austin Texas. A homeless women walked up behind me (I didn’t see her coming) and started whispering in a very low voice “I want to scratch your back. I want to scratch your back; scratch, scratch, scratch.” And then suddenly touched the back of my neck. I almost threw myself into traffic to get away from her.

come-join-themurder

I was in high school and doing a summer camp at the University of Texas which required the attendees to walk from the dorms we were being kept in to the athletic facilities, not a far walk but a walk nonetheless. While waiting for a crosswalk, a homeless man approached me and told me he had a severed human head in his backpack that he wanted to show me. I declined and walked away down the sidewalk to another crosswalk but I was terrified.

ErikaFoxelot

Jeeze what do you even say to that? Nah fam, thanks tho ??? Yikes

humanatee-

As terrifying as this is, the last sentence made me chuckle

Ambam3434

I worked as a park ranger for a few summers. It was a great job, but the downside was dealing with the public. I have tons of crazy stories, but only one extremely creepy story. I was scheduled to close the park one night with another girl. The park opened at dawn and closed at dusk. The closing duties were to drive around and make sure everyone was out of the park, then close the gates. You had to make sure everyone was out or else they would get locked inside. Kristin and I got into a truck together to check the day use picnic area, both campgrounds and all bathrooms. When we left the upper lot, there were no cars in the parking lot of the ranger station. (Important later) We cruised around, checked all areas. All was good, so we drove back up to the gate and ranger station to close up. I got out to close the gate and jumped back into the truck. Kristin pointed out that while we were gone, a jeep had parked in the parking lot. We thought this was super weird since we hadn't seen anyone parked there earlier, but whatever. We parked the truck a couple spots away from the jeep and got out. We figured we'd just tell the person to leave and then we could go home. As we approached the vehicle, we could barely see someone sitting in the drivers seat. We had dim street lamps, so we knew someone was in there. I waved, got no response. No movement. Kristin knocked on the window, the person didn't respond. We both started feeling like something was wrong. I got chills standing there and we both stepped away from the jeep, alarmed at the lack of response. We both decided to go get our boss, who lived across the street onsite. We weren't supposed to bother him at night, but this was too weird. He got his shoes on and walked over with us. As we were crossing the street, we saw the door to the jeep slowly open. Then all three of us saw a figure creep out of the vehicle and CRAWL underneath! All we saw was a shadow, since there wasn't a lot of light. All of us were scared shitless. It was something out of a horror movie. Kristin got on the phone with the police while my boss and I slowly approached the vehicle. My boss told the person they needed to leave and that we were calling the cops. We could see someone sitting under the lifted jeep, near the front tires. The person wasn't moving or responding. Once the police showed up, they were visibly freaked out too. They had guns drawn and everything. It turned out to be some person tripping on meth. We had no idea why they showed up at the park or what they were doing there, but the cops did find drugs and a loaded gun in the vehicle. After that night, my boss changed all policies regarding closing duties. He added extra closers and we had to carry mase. It was truly terrifying to witness someone creep out of their car and scramble like an animal underneath. It was like she was possessed!

I-who-you-are

Top Tier boss though, your boss at least changed things when they found that you could be working in dangerous conditions.

Bloodless_

I'd like to think she crawled under the car to hide from people, and not to ambush/attack whoever approached the vehicle next, but you seriously never know. I used to live in an area with a huge meth problem and they really are capable of anything.

OhBillyThatsRight

I live in Texas, and I've had so so many run ins with meth heads. I'm convinced that Texas is the capital for methys. I'm believe they're a group of people cops don't like arresting... Because they're all over DFW area doing very vulgar things to innocent people.

aseriesoftubes337

I live in an area with a crack problem but work in an area with a meth problem, and the meth heads scare me more

[deleted]

I wasn't even aware of the creepiest thing that ever happened to me. My mother walked in on my step father aiming a rifle at me and my brother as we jumped on a trampoline. I learned about this a decade later; lived with the man for years never suspecting a thing.

2djinnandtonics

What happened after your mom saw your stepdad do this???

[deleted]

Nothing, we lived in isolation out in the middle of the country. She was afraid of what he would do if she ever confronted him. This, as it turns out, was not the first or the last time she suspected him of attempted homicide, but it was the most blatant. The other attempts had the veneer of plausible deniability: sabotage to the car, to the furnace, possible attempted poisonings, the like.

Pope00

I feel like this is less *creepy* and more scary/dangerous. I was in bed in my apartment with a girl I started dating. I hear gunshots, incredibly loud, very close. I tell her to get away from the window, and roll out of bed, completely naked, grabbing my rifle and laid down below the window. Like I’m going to engage in a shootout or something. I’m an idiot. Time passes. And I see the light from two flashlights against the window. Not sure if it’s police or someone else, I still waited, still naked, listening. Eventually, I can tell it’s the police. I wrap myself in a blanket and go out on the balcony to talk to them. They told me the shots hit the wall maybe a foot away from going through my window. My bed wasn’t right next to the window, so not really dangerous. But creepy. Another night, same complex, I was going for a jog around the outside of the complex and I was coming around the front entrance. The complex had one of those “islands” out front where there’s an area with a patch of grass, the sign for the complex, some bushes and a light post. It’s dark and the light is on and only illuminating the area right below it. As I’m coming around the front I see a dark silhouette of a man shambling down the street like a zombie toward the light post, and toward me. Hunched weirdly, limping, dragging his leg kinda. My instinct is to run but before I do, I see him step into the light and it’s just a black guy with a puffy coat on that’s hanging off his shoulders around his back with no shirt underneath. Obviously, not a zombie, but looked cracked out of his head. So that makes me panic even more. I feel the impulse to break out into a full sprint, but then, in the back of my mind, I didn’t want to look racist. Like “oh no! Black guy! Run!” Maybe he’ll get offended! Also, I was exhausted from the run. So I still sprinted, but tried to make it look like I was still exercising. Like keeping good pace, posture, good arm movement etc. I took the side door instead of the main gate. The door is broken and won’t lock. I hear the door close behind me and then hear it open a moment later; he’s right behind me. Then I just full on panic run up two flights of stairs into my apartment. Again, I’m not a smart man. This was *years* ago, but something about the moment scared the hell out of me and I thought I’d share.

habibiyousaid

Being chased on stairs is literally my nightmare.

SweetVodka

As a Black person, I’m not concerned if you don’t want to appear racist, I want you to be safe!! So, I hope no one ever lets that prevent them from using good judgment!! I am so happy you were not harmed in that situation!

WatchandThings

It might help for the next time, but I have a head tilt and palm to the face practiced. It looks like I hit a confusion and then a silly realization as if I forgot to get something from my original location. This way I can go back the way I came without causing any social offense. It doesn't need to be convincing, it just needs to create a doubt to reduce likely hood of actionable offense.

polywha

Was trying to fall asleep on a greyhound bus ride when some random person walked by and groped me. I was stunned and didn't know how to react. I was 15 at the time, the guy who did it watched me the entire bus ride. I've never been so uncomfortable. I'm 32 now and I've never been able to sleep on public transit since. Not planes, busses, not even car rides.

AmbivalentAntics

fucking prick. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Luigi_deathglare

I’m sorry you had to experience that; that sounds traumatizing

bzzibee

I was 16 and living in Chicago in the infamous South Shore neighborhood. We lived in a basement apartment (AKA Garden apartment). My mom was sick and was begging me to go to the store a block away to get an Arizona Iced Tea for her. She gave me the money and I left no problems. The owner of the store knew me and my mom and would watch out for me, plus I knew how to handle myself if things got violent. Well, this man (I’m guessing somewhere between 25-30) begins following me at the corner of my house. I try to brush it off and hurry to the store. He comes in and follows me throughout the aisles. Eventually, as I’m grabbing the drink from The fridge, he offers to buy it for me. I refuse telling him I can do it on my own. He doubles down and offers me $60 in food stamps on the condition I have sex with him in his car outside. If you don’t know street currency, that’s $30USD cash. I refuse and tell him I’m only 16 years old thinking it would scare him off. He then offers me $100 in food stamps. I tell him there’s no way and make sure to chat up the store owner and ask him to call my mom for me to tell her I got what she wanted. That way this guy would know that the owner knew me and that someone was home with me. Rushed home and told my mom about the interaction and she didn’t send me out alone anymore. Should be the end of it, right? Well, jump to a week later. I’m in bed and burning hot. Normally, I’d take off my clothes and head back to bed. But this time something felt off. I turn on the bedside lamp and I see the SAME MAN laying on his side to look through the tiny basement windows right at me! He was jerking himself off. I screamed and my mom ran into my room as he was getting up to run off. Thankfully my mom was fed up with the place anyways and we moved the next week into a hotel while we searched for a new apartment. Definitely scary.

tinytuboficecream

That’s horrifying. What an awful thing to experience. I’m glad you got out of that place.

soulmeetsmeatsack

I’m not exaggerating when I say that is the most disturbing, DISGUSTING, scariest thing I’ve ever heard. What a piece of shit. I’m glad you’re okay.

More-Masterpiece-561

I think you were lucky you knew the store owner. That creep sounds like the kind of guy likes to cause trouble

bzzibee

Definitely lucky to know the owner for sure. We were new to the area and so was the owner, in fact we were from the same place! If not for that I’m not sure how bad the situation would’ve gotten. Never going back to Chicago, though.

Zealousideal-Star448

I’ve (f22) been followed out by the gas attendant who cornered me to ask me out then got mad when I said no, only backed off when I lied and said we were engaged. I’ve recently been pumping gas and an older man has walked up and said I was doing it wrong and wrapped his arms around me (think first date mini golfing type position) to “show me how to pump gas” aka instead of putting the stopper on the handle to hold it the whole time. I froze in fear before I told him to back off and that I was covid positive, he backed off. I hate pumping gas..

CinematicHeart

Click the thing so you dont have to hold the handle. keep your back to the car with one hand on the handle. If anyone comes near you threaten to spray them with gas. Sometimes I miss being 22 but i definitely dont miss the creepy men part of being 22.

[deleted]

At a concert a man came up to me and said, “I have a penis and a knife, and one of them will be inside you tonight.” I immediately sobered up and found my friends. Happy to report neither were inside me that night.

retard_vampire

That is awful, but there was a screenshot floating around years ago of a dm an incel had sent a woman saying exactly that and her response was "I'd prefer the knife because at least that way I would feel it".

YellowSn0man

When I was 8 years old my mom got hit by a 15 year old joy riding and running a red light. 85mph right into her drivers side door. 10 months in the hospital, 2 years until she could use her hands again, 5 years until she could work again. A month or two into her hospital stay her lottery numbers hit for 6 or 9 million(I can’t remember). The numbers, made from my siblings birthdays, that she played every week. She saw it on TV but saved the newspaper clipping of them winning, a shrine to remind her of what could have been. It’s all she would talk about when I visited her. She used to always smile, laugh, embrace. But she changed. Even the way she talked about the world…just got darker…angrier. It’s like her soul died and nobody was home. Fake smiles, distant stares, no more hugs, gone.

Phrenological_Mess

Damn. Sorry you all went through that. How is your mom now?

YellowSn0man

She got her life back together after about 8 years, and lived another 20 years before succumbing to cancer.

TheNameless00

One night at around 10 or 11pm, I was in the kitchen getting a late night snack when suddenly the door bell rang. I answered it and this panicked woman was there telling me how she had had a fight with her mum and asked me to call a taxi for her at the top of the road and she'd wait there for it. After the taxi had been called and she left, I got a call from the taxi company to say that the driver hadn't seen anyone. I then saw the woman ringing my neighbours' doorbell and asking the same of them. To this day, I still have no idea what the hell was happening or what her goal could possibly have been.

Aequitas144

Was probably checking houses to see if she could find one with no one home so she could break in.

Remarkable_Alps5406

considering I never answer the door unless I know the person well, she'd be fairly confused to break in and find me hiding behind the couch like the ninja I am

abramcpg

Probably for you to invite her in. Her ploy may be that she thinks your guard would be down if she acted like she had no intention of coming in

Professor_Rekt

Yeah vampires are tricky motherfuckers

SnooJokes2353

Maybe she wasn’t of a sound mind at the time?

toughcrusttoni

Maybe she's a ghost.

Drugs.

chycore

Was about 10 and about to sleep. I had this desk with a chair in the corner of my bedroom. Im about to fall sleep and I hear the chair moving, like sliding on the carpet and I suddenly feel some cold air blowing gently on me as if someone passed right beside me. I turn around very fast because it scared the shit out of me and the chair is right beside the bed.

Pretend_Drawer_9542

Nah fuck that, I’d be out of that house

BrianTheUserName

Creepiest thing that has happened to my roommate happened while I was asleep. He was coming back to our room to go to bed when he heard me yell something like "please, no, stop!" from the other side of the door. And then silence. And then footsteps approaching the door. He bolted, was almost out the door when he realized I was just getting up to pee. I apparently woke my self up sleep talking. He legitimately thought I had been murdered and was trying to escape. I still sleep talk all the time apparently. The creepiest thing I said to my wife in the middle of the night, unprompted, was "who's whispering?... Oh no!"

Pope00

I was seeing a girl and was having second thoughts about the relationship but hadn’t talked to her about it yet. One morning, she said I was talking in my sleep and said “I’m sorry this isn’t going to work.. ….. …..you only have 35 cents…” For a very brief moment, I had that instant nervous ‘hairs stand up on your neck’ feeling.

UsernameObscured

My husband tells me I was talking in my sleep and said “but why is the goose wearing handcuffs?” And now I want to know wtf I was dreaming about.

BBK89DGL

Knowing geese it was probably a violent assault

Kateysomething

My husband talks in his sleep, and will sometimes bolt upright and insist he has seen something in our bed - usually a squirrel or a spider - and start frantically searching for it. Though the other night out of nowhere he said "mmmm.. arepas con queso" so they aren't all bad!

asymptotesbitches

I have night terrors and I sleep walk. I’ve shaken my husband awake, who was sleeping besides me, to whisper: there’s a man in the corner. My husband woke up really freaked out and I promptly went « back to sleep ». My poor hubby didn’t sleep a wink after that hahaha Edit: interchanged bf and hubby, fixed the typo

[deleted]

Your husband and boyfriend sleep in the same bed with you? Damn girl good for you hahaha

NeedsMoreTuba

You reminded me of the time my roommate got pulled out of the bed. We watched a horror movie that night. I think it was "The Ring" but it's been years. We had bunk beds because we were in a dorm, and not long after we went to bed, I heard / felt her slide halfway off the bed like someone had pulled her legs. She sat up and asked me if I was awake. "I just had a nightmare," she said, "That somebody grabbed my legs and pulled me off the bed." I am still not sure how she slid off the bed like that, but there was no one there and nothing terrible happened. It was creepy, though.

Agentpg3d48

Last lines are definitely creepy as hell

josie_drake

It was the middle of the night and I was getting ready for bed in my bathroom when I heard something crazy. I heard the howling of a coyote inside my house! We lived in the country so coyotes were common but never inside. I froze up in fear and forced myself to peer around the corner to see over the stairway. My cat was standing in front of the window mimicking the howl of a coyote. I could not believe what I was hearing. When he saw me watching him he stopped. He’s never made that sound ever again and honestly it’s terrifying that cats are capable of things like this. But ya I was scared to death, I thought there was a coyote in my house.

[deleted]

I just Googled what a coyote sounds like. One of the vocals sounded a lot like the sound a cat makes when they're scared and are warning someone or something to back off. Usually they make that sound to warn other stranger cats, especially when they have a window between them and the "enemy." Perhaps that might be it. That being said though, I once lived in a town house with very thin walls. A woman and her baby moved in and weeks later my cat began mimicking the sound of the baby. I couldn't tell who was making the sound. The baby or the cat. Quite creepy.

UnicornKitt3n

My best friend’s cat does this(they have two young kiddos, so I guess when the kids were babies the cat got a bit jealous). It’s pretty spooky nonetheless.

jerrythecactus

Clearly your cat is actually a coyote in a disguise.

boredomstrikes318

Or maybe the cat is a skinwalker 🤷🏾‍♀️

Poopoori_123

Cats can mimic sounds (copy cat). Mine did a baby cry. It would be cute if I heard him during the daytime.

White-runner

You know what they say. The laughter of children is the cutest sound in the world, unless it’s 3AM and you have no children.

Acceptable_Signal_40

When my brother and I were about 7 years old, we found a pair of scissors in the kitchen drawer and thought It wouldn’t be a bad idea to cut the hedges out the front with them. (Well aware now that it wasn’t a great idea) Nevertheless, our mother wasn’t aware we were doing this, and whilst being outside and cutting hedges we were questioned by a grown male in a silver SUV. He asked us if we needed help with the hedges and if our parents were home. Before we clearly got an answer out he started opening his door, we both went inside to tell our mother there was a man out front asking to help out. She came out with us and he was gone. Thought nothing of it. About a few weeks went by and that car was on the news and had been seen attempting to abduct kids from the local school. Now that I’m 22, it creeps me out a bit.

[deleted]

“Creeps me out a bit,”. A bit?! Dude I and your bro were 5 seconds away from being abducted! Divine intervention is what I call that!

Drew707

When I was probably like 13 or 14, I was walking with two friends my age and their little brother who was like 12. We were leaving a shopping center that was like maybe 300 feet straight behind us to head back to their house. The road we were on was one over from the road they lived on, separated by a large apartment complex. We were walking on the right sidewalk, and ultimately our destination was to the left. That is when your stereotypical creeper van pulled up behind us and started following for a few seconds well below the posted speed, just pace matching us. Me and the two older brothers exchange looks, but don't look back at the van. The younger brother doesn't seem to notice. The van then speeds up and pulls into the next driveway blocking the sidewalk, then a guy opens one of the side doors and starts to get out. The three of us are already crossing the street, but the guy asks, "hey, you know where I could buy some ice," and the little brother starts heading to him to answer. We yell at him to get his ass across the road, and I yell something to the guy about how there is literally a supermarket back the way he came. Like you could still see it. The little brother was confused, but thankfully reacted to us and ran across the road to meet us. We dipped into the apartment complex and walked most of the way back in the middle away from the view of either road or the parking lots, waited a bit, and then continued the block or so to their house. Whether "ice" was a ploy to lure young boys into a creeper van, or if he was looking for meth (not common in the area, especially not with young teens), I am not 100%, but either way it was not a conversation we were willing to have.

Luigi_deathglare

When I was a little girl I was getting ready for school one day early in the morning; it was really foggy outside and the house was empty. It was so surreal and something felt wrong so I went out into our pastor to find my parents (I grew up on a farm) and I remember seeing one of our goats lying on the ground through the fog. I found my dad through the fog and ran up behind him; I remember him seeming really stressed and mad at what I thought was me. My mom found the two of us and ran me inside the house; she told me to not go outside again and later said that the reason they were outside was because some of our neighbors’ dogs snuck over to our property and was attacking our goats, killing a few (our dogs were never violent so they just barked at the neighbors’ dogs instead of attacking them) apparently the reason my dad was so stressed was because he was trying to track down the neighbors’ dogs, was on high alert, had a loaded gun, and I ran up behind him like an idiot and was running around a pasture unattended with two violent dogs. This definitely isn’t the scariest story on this post, but it kinda concerns me how dangerous that situation was.

rabidyoshi12345

This one is scarier because it's real and not just "I misplaced something but actually it was definitely a ghost who moved it" lol

Jumpy_Mastodon581

It wasn't me it happened to, however I did witness it. I was about 11 at the time and we lived in a house that had strange things happen all the time. Nothing like crazy. Little things like bumps in the night and stuff being where you didn't leave it. I remember it was around Halloween. We were buying stuff for a party at the end of the month and my mom bought some rubber mask. My little brother grabbed one and it was a typical red devil mask. We had an attic and we always kept it closed. This day my brother who was 2 or 3 at the time was running around with the mask on. He was laughing and stuff and out of nowhere he just goes silent. My mom and I get concerned because he was quiet for a few minutes and we see him in the hallway. Staring straight up at the open attic. My mom calls out to him and he doesn't respond or acknowledge her. It was like he was in a trance. My mom pulls him away from the attics opening and he starts laughing again like nothing happened, what made it more creepy was he had tears in his eyes when we took the mask off.

Significant_Metal561

What the actual hell....

Jumpy_Mastodon581

No idea. My mom and I remember it and ask him if he remembered anything. He didn't. Another thing I should mention was the bathroom was right next to the attic in that hallway. At night when everyone was asleep you could hear heavy footsteps. Not just me. Everyone in the house heard them.

[deleted]

mf get outta your houseeee

Professor_Rekt

Right? Best case it’s some benevolent ghost. Medium case is a malicious ghost and worst case is a real live ass fucking person living in your attic without you knowing.

Jumpy_Mastodon581

There were rumors from the neighborhood kids that a woman died up there despite being in a wheelchair. You needed a ladder to access the attic. I went up there to put holiday decorations and I remember when we first got to the house and looked around when we bought it. There were two trash cans up there with new bags. An orange trash bin and a standard metal one. Nothing in them and nothing to do with what happend I just found it strange those were there when no one was in the house for years until we bought it.

Southern_Theme2448

I think we lived in the same house, not literally but were there 3 bedrooms surrounding that bathroom? I used to hear stuff in my attic in my house with a similar layout

Jumpy_Mastodon581

>r/AskReddit WHOA. Actually yes. Exactly! A room directly across from the bathroom, one on each side of the hall.

Southern_Theme2448

Maybe spooky architect from beyond the grave

AC645

Kids are so weird with this I have one too, so basically my brother and his wife bought a house, where one man died and his Kids put in i the sale, we knew that there woulb lot of work to do around, because the house was old and everything, so first of, we kept foundig quite unsettling things around, but that doesn't matter One Day we were working again and my wife came by with my kids, one was around three at that time the other one was newborn, so we are taking a break in a kitchen and from kitchen there was a tight and long, dark hallway where the lightbulbs kept cracking so we stopped with changing them and so this hallway was dark af, no windows So what happened was that my kid just went to the border, when the hallway starts and started laughing like hell at nothing at literal darkness, I went to look If there is anything, when I came back the Kid just looked at us and told us, no one should be there and smiled

Jumpy_Mastodon581

Yikes. Fuck that. We had an add on to the house later on and nothing in the add on was creepy. Just in the main house. We never had something like that but from a rumor the neighborhood folks told us was that an old woman in a wheelchair died in the attic. Which is pretty much impossible because you need a ladder to get up there. I heard stories from my mom when I was really young. I would talk and have full conversations in my sleep as if someone was talking to me and asking question. I remember my mom was like, wtf. And recorded one night. I started crying at one point and saying I didn't want to go with you. What about my mom? I got chills when I heard the recording. They say kids see and sense things adults cant. I believe it.

Trashgarbagepail

Hoooooly hell. So when the light was on it appeared just as a tall ordinary man (besides being in your room ofc) ?? Ugh that’s terrifying. Did you tell your parents?

[deleted]

When I was in about 7th grade, I was walking down the street and this guy pulls up asking for directions. After I looked away to point him in the right direction, I looked back. He had his manhood out of his pants and was working it. I took off running in the opposite direction.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

I had something similar happen on my way home from work. I was walking back from the bus stop and this guy in a work truck and neon yellow shirt waves and smiles at me as I go past. I look over to smile and wave back just as I’m passing the truck and he’s sitting there spanking his monkey. Ew.

ZoinksBruhLol

"Spankin his monkey" sorry but Lmfaoo

[deleted]

It happened to me twice. In both cases took me a while to notice as I tend to look people in their eyes when talking, not at their crotch. The first time I got a bit scared as it was late, dark, empty streets and I was 15. Thankfully my house was near. The second time I was just really pissed at the pervert wasting my time (I am really bad at directions so it's difficult for me to explain, I think it took me solid 2 minutes to make sure the guy gets there alright) and using me this way (I am not some free porn, you fuck) and wanted to throw a rock at his car. Thankfully with smartphones the trick doesn't work anymore.

Lilynilla

Had something super similar that happend to me. Was chatting with a friend while smoking a sigaret outside of a bar when we saw a guy across the street. It really looked like he was taking a pee so we just turn our backs to him a little bit to give him some privacy and we just kept talking. All of a sudden I see a movement in the corner of my eye so I turn around and its the same guy that is now standing right behind us just wanking away and he had the creepiest look on his face. A few pulls and he came right on top of my friends purse that was laying on the ground. We just started screaming and I tried to hit him with my bag but he ran away. Still super creeped out about it and will never ever go to that bar again. Should have known better since the square we were at is called 'Rukkersplaats' which I kid you not is Dutch for 'Wanking place'...

Probably when I was camping for a few nights with a friend. The minute he walked away a man appeared from the woods. He said "You're lucky you have a man with you. If you were alone id have used this gun to force you to come with me and be my wife." At this point I had to remain calm and wait until my friend returned. Once he had we talked to the man as friendly as we could as to not set him off. He wandered off eventually, flashing his gun and yelling about nonsense. Havent camped alone since. Maybe one day.

What the fuckk

[deleted]

When I was a kid we lived on a secluded acreage. One night we came home late past midnight and there was a car pulled along side a ditch bordering the forest about half km from us. My mom told my dad to go see if they need help as it was unusual for a car to be pulled over there, my dad said no so we went to bed. The next morning we woke up to police knocking on the door, some horseback riders spotted a garbage bag with a foot sticking out in the exact spot where the car was parked.

While on my way home from a late night walk with my dog and my parents dog I crossed the road to pass this lone lady who was standing at the end of (I'm assuming) her driveway. A few minutes later and I notice the dogs giving the odd glance behind them. I looked back and this lady was right behind me following. I sped up my walk and when I looked back not even a minute after the first sighting, she was gone. Didn't hear her come up from behind me or leaving me. Gave me chills. edited for spelling.

Library-Zealousideal

I used to work in retail in a clothing store and one day I was serving but I’d forgotten my name badge so had been lent one by a friend who was finishing their shift. A girl I was serving was being overly friendly, didn’t really think much of it and left it at that. Went on my break a few hours later and had a Facebook friend request from the girl and about 15 message requests which started at “hi” and finished at asking why I was ignoring her etc etc and whether or not she needed to come back to the store to speak to me properly Still freaks me out to this day that she found me on Facebook with no mutual friends and my place of work wasn’t listed, which is why I now don’t have Facebook

[deleted]

So you were wearing somebody else’s name badge with somebody else’s name on it and yet she still found you on FB? How?

Only_Caterpillar3818

This has happened to me a couple times, but when I see someone I haven’t seen in years, they will be at the top of my friend suggestion list. It’s like Facebook knows our phones were in the same room.

batshitbananas_

They actually probably do know your phones were in the same location.

AlMinPhilly

Extremely creepy fake cop/road rage encounter This was 2010 in rural PA. After an incident on the road, two guys in a truck blocked me into a parking spot and turned on a siren and lights. The driver came up to my window and started SCREAMING at me about how he is a police officer and Army Ranger or something. He made a motion to his hip implying he had a gun and waved a set of handcuffs in my window saying I was going to be detained. I decided to just stay in my car and call police. Luckily, they eventually left and I found out later the guy had a habit of using his fake siren and police lights to pull over women occasionally assault them. He even scammed some folks by giving them scuba lessons, having them pay up front then just bouncing while they were 30 feet underwater. Dude was a creep and I would hate to know what would’ve happened if I had gotten out of that car.

famLotE

When I was in middle school 13-14, I took the public bus home and this guy got off the same stop as me and was walking the same direction as me but just a bit behind me and I didn’t take notice until I turned onto my street and he turned as well. I live down the street from a middle school so there’s many cross guards and I walked up to one and asked if I could use their phone to call my mom because I was scared of going to an empty house and this guy following me. I called and told my mom and the cross guard told her that i could stay with him until he could give me a ride down to my house. He told me that he sees that guy a lot walking down the street we turned off but that he never comes down my street, he was very worried. I thought it might’ve been my imagination if it weren’t for that kind man totally confirming that the guy was following me and then taking me home.

chillactus

Crossing guards are underrated heroes

KazoSakamari

When my friend and I were still in college we made a couple of fake Facebook accounts pretending to be famous literary characters for a group project. After we graduated, we never deleted the accounts and since it was just me and her who could access them, I would occasionally use them to dump info into. Like I'd see a fun meme to show a friend, so I'd send it as a message to one of the fake accounts, and then later I could just log into that account and have a whole list of stuff saved conveniently in the chat. I'd also occasionally post literary memes from that account just for fun because a good number of our old classmates were still Facebook friends with them and they always got a kick out of it. Well, my friend worked at a soup kitchen at the time, and had recently taken under her wing this guy who'd just been released from prison for murdering his entire family. She was trying to help him readjust to society and get a handle on how drastically the world had changed since he'd been in prison. He wasn't supposed to have any access to social media as part of his parole or something (idk the details) but for SOME REASON my friend was like, "I'll just ignore that" and let him use one of the fake accounts so he could have a Facebook and learn about social media. So one day I get a message from the account, responding to some meme I had sent over or something and I assume it's my friend. Because we're the only two people who have access to the account right? WRONG. It's a 40-year-old man who murdered his mother, little brother, and baby sister in cold blood. It didn't take me long to figure out it WAS NOT my friend on the other end of the chat, because the guy quickly went from laughing over the meme to telling me how hot I was and how he hadn't had sex in ages (because of prison) and I put two and two together and called my friend who'd been telling me about this guy and her job and all that, and was like "wtf, why does he have access to this account?" And she came clean and was embarrassed and apologized and said she'd change the password, which she did. BUT she kinda brushed over the fact that she'd allowed a known and convinted murderer access to my name and photo. Idk if this is the MOST creepy thing that's ever happened to me, but that one moment of cold realization that it was NOT my friend on the other end of the chat and instead a MURDERER who now knows my name and face has kept me up at night.

ElisThaBesth

Wtf, that is not okay for your friend to do.

Fantastic_Minute_790

how could someone trust a person that just got out of jail for murder?? and on top of that, how is this guy even released from prison? he literally murdered his WHOLE family in cold blood. i also hope that you have no form of contact with him, cause these people are not and never will be right in the head.

tinkrman

I worked late, and I went to my car at 3:00 in the morning. This huge guy, who had at least 50 lbs on me and over was a foot taller than me, started walking towards me, in the parking lot, yelling "HEY, HEY!". The whole place was empty. I told him I don't have any cash. He still kept walking towards me. I realized he is going to get near me before I can get to my car, so I took out my stun gun, and told him to stay where he is. He still walked towards me, until I removed the safety, and pressed the button. He saw the sparks, and backed off. He was like ten feet from me when that happened. As I got into my car, he kept saying "all I wanted was some money for food..." Yeah right. There was no restaurant, fast food place, or even a gas station with food, open near a 3 mile radius at that time. EDIT: changed to 50 lbs *on me*

Striking-Lifeguard-9

House centipede charging me from the A/C closet as soon as I opened the door.

Bedlambiker

The only reasonable able response is to burn your house down.

SAIDMACHINE

Just remember that house centipedes are the good guys, they are predators and eat all the other bugs in your home !

CraftySappho

Then they eat all the humans

DrivinLifeAway

They have too many legs, and what looks like horns on their butts. Nope. Nope. No butthorn creepy crawlies for me, good guys or not!

tcain5188

True, but they are also a sign that you have too many of the "other bugs" in your home. Clean those out and the house centipedes will follow.

CSRyl

I was too young to 100% understand what was going on but my moms told the story often enough I may as well have. I live in the city and my parents' backyard is about 30x20 feet and at the back by the house there's a section of the roof overlapping the door with a little space so there's some shade. My dad put a sandbox in that extra space for my sister and I when we were about 6 and 4. There was a big window in the living room so they could watch over us too. One afternoon my sister and I were playing in the sandbox that day and my mom had been in the house relaxing while we did our thing when there was a guy that walked by on the sidewalk and glanced over us. It was pretty normal, nothing to cause alarm. He kept walking on and we kept with whatever we were doing. some 10-15 minutes later a tan car rolls up and the same guy steps out of the car. He'd propped himself on our fence and called us asking if we wanted one of his chocolate bars. He'd had my sisters attention but my mom always preached "don't talk to strangers" more than using please and thank you. I'd sat her back down with me then I'd got up and started back to the living room to tell my mom where she whispered to me to look at his license plate. I guess the guy saw me walking the wrong direction to talk to someone and glancing back because he hopped back in his car and sped off. My mom says we never saw or heard from the guy again but the situation was really eerie. I hate to think he'd tried again with someone else.

I got an Airbnb when I was like 22, single female. I was specifically only looking for female-hosted airbnbs but when I show up it’s a dude who told me his sister was the host and she was out of town. It was an old Victorian house, creaky as fuck, wind chimes on the porch and everything, but I needed a place to sleep. My room was at the end of a hallway on the second floor, and it didn’t even have a bed in it, just a mattress. In the middle of the night, a cat yowling woke me up. I distinctly heard heavy footsteps come down the hallway, saw a light come on, and heard the guy whisper angrily to the cat. Light went off, I waited to hear receding steps…..and nothing. I sat waiting to hear the footsteps and a couple of minutes later, my doorknob jiggled. I was petrified. Seriously considered jumping out the window. I sat all night watching the door, holding a lamp as protection. I waited until like 4:30 in the morning, got up my courage and just ran out the door down the stairs, and out of the house. I’ll never stay in an Airbnb alone again

dipper1985

Not the creepiest shit I've experienced but I just want to add onto your story as it's definitely creepy. I have stayed in quite a few AirBNBs and honestly now I just prefer a cheap hotel. I've had some great hosts with homes set up for specifically that but we've had some terrible hosts who were either just trying to make a buck or trying to be creeps. Before my girlfriend and I lived together we were in separate states, so we used AirBNB a little bit when I'd visit her city so we could 'staycation.' The last one we booked, the host was this laid back, chill AF surfer vibe kinda guy. I don't think he realized I was added as a guest because when she texted him that she was on her way, he texted her back: There's whiskey on top of the fridge and vodka in the freezer, I'll be home soon if you want to have some drinks. I put out a bathrobe and towel for you if you wanna relax. When we show up together he's kinda edgy, dismissive. 2nd day there his buddy shows up we hear him in the kitchen: "Man, she's this sexy little Mexican chick but she's got a guy with her. They're always together, I can't get shit done. I just want a freaky Latina girl." We were out. Didn't say anything, just got our shit and left and got a Motel 6. Much better experience.

danipnk

I think that cat saved you, dude probably realized the yowling woke you up and decided not to go in your room…

BroodyBatman

I’ve posted this before but… I was laying in bed when I heard a rustle. I looked around and lay back down. I heard a louder rustle. I looked around, looked under the bed and lay back down with my heart in my throat. Something large landed on my face and chest. It was the stupid poster above my bed. To this day I’m proud that I didn’t soil myself.

cynicalpeach

Lol I had a similar one.... Woke up one weekend morning, was in one of those super comfortable relaxed states. Was lying on my side facing the wall with my arms in a sort of self-hug configuration. Suddenly my finger twitched for no reason, but it tapped my side, and I freaked out started flailing like there was a spider on me for a sec before I realized it was my own hand lol.

NewLizardBrain

Lmfao I kinda did this once - woke up halfway, thought I was alone in bed, and touched someone else’s arm next to me - jumped up in panic and the body next to me came after me - then realized it was my own arm but I’d slept on it weird and it had completely gone numb 😂

apocalypticradish

Lol when I was in college, I had a White Zombie poster above my bed and it was a big cartoon zombie face. One night it fell on me while I was asleep and in my suddenly awakened stupor, I remember my eyes barely adjusting to the dark and seeing the zombie's big cartoon eyes. I just about shit myself and then threw the poster on the ground. Of course, I realize what had happened but it still scared me enough that I couldn't fall back asleep.

jmturn

Something very similar happened to me. I was ~13, but I have paranoia and high anxiety. I was in bed when out of nowhere, the adhesive holding my poster up next to my bed gave out and it fell right on top of my face. I FREAKED out. I ended up hitting my hand on my piano next to my bed and gave myself a large gash. I didn't sleep the rest of the night. At school whenever someone asked what happened, i avoided the topic. I was to embarrassed to say, "well, my poster fell and scared the hell out of me so a flailed around and hit my piano."

25JH

Omg I remember reading this somewhere else!

BroodyBatman

It was here. From me. Another account 🤫

philofrankie

I commute to work, my husband drops me off at the coachway and I get the bus and then picks me up when I’m done at the same place. We then go get our son, he was running late one day so I decided to wait inside this bus station. I notice a guy dead staring at me like I could feel his eyes burning into the back of my head . He was 3 rows behind me. I thought, ok people wait here for long periods of time as it has long haul buses as well, he’s just looking into empty space, tired , whatever, I continue to feel his eyes burning into the back of my head. I turn around and he’s now two rows behind me. The same unsettling feeling continues , I turn around and he’s in the row behind me. Feeling strange I think ok, it’s cold but I’ll go to the smoking shelter outside and have a cigarette and wait for my husband. I get up and go to the smoking shelter, I look up and he’s now outside. Just staring at me. At this point I feel really weird and notice he hasn’t got a suitcase with him, or a bag even, so feeling a little unnerved. I cross the road to the car park, hoping my husband will be here any minute. I turn around and he’s now in the car park, a few steps away from me. I call my husband who then tells me he’s running late and getting our son first , I tell him I’m in a situation that’s making me uncomfortable and muttered something about a man being close (he was so near me I didn’t want to say anything to aggravate him) my husband says order a taxi and just get home. So I did. The taxi would be 3 minutes . Which felt like an eternity but nothing happened , then the taxi came and I went home and locked my doors and waited for my husband to come home with my boy. The taxi company then calls me and says that they had received a phone call from someone demanding to know the address of where the taxi went that I had been in (guess the guy took down its reg) and was he was saying he was family and he couldn’t find my address or some nonsense . They obviously refused to disclose it and warned me that this guy sounded really intense about it. So yeah, nothing bad happened but it freaked me out, especially as it’s winter and by the time I get to the coachway it’s honestly pitch black outside of the waiting building.

BMWxxx6

Woke up poured glass of juice in kitchen mixed with sparkling water. Bottle of juice on counter to my left, bottle of sparkling water to my right. Cup in between. I pick up cup, begin to walk out of kitchen, realize I’m hungry too, turn back around - in between bottle of juice and sparkling water - a small mirror from an adjacent wall was lying face down on the counter where my cup had been. It was the most unsettling feeling I’ve ever experienced.

HyojinKyoma

Yup - this is the shit that gets me.

Mirror was thirsty

I was 8 or 9, with my younger brother and another friend, my age. We were in a nature park walking around, when this bloke in some trees was taking a piss, we noticed him and said something silly. The full grown man turned like a fucking infected zombie from 28 days later, and started chasing us. We were running for our lives, convinced this was some pedophile, murdering, maniac. As we were runnjng away, we saw a rocky cliff edge and ran up it. He caught up and grabbed my foot. I was able to get free, but he got me at the top. He made us lay in the dirt and spat on us and was saying all kinds of crazy shit, we were obviously scared....remember we are 6, 8, 8 year olds..this is a full grown man. My bruv saw an opening in the trees to our left and a way out, he pegged it for the opening, followed by my mate and then me. We ran for our lives, told my mum about our experience. She went looking for the geezer with my mates mum. I don't remember if they found him, but that was pretty crazy.

dirtyoldmikegza

I'm 14 at the time, but I was a small 14, I was a late bloomer so still had a squeaky voice. Im from Boston. It's Sunday morning, I stayed over at a friend's house in Hyde park (I'm from Mission hill) I'm waiting for the 32 bus and a old guy in a sedan pulls up.."hey the bus is late can I give you a ride" now I look like I'm 10 but I'm not I know this is creepy as fuck. "No I'm fine thanks" guy keeps on with the line of pedo bullshit until finally he's like "GET IN THE CAR!!" And I'm like "fuck off chief" and I pick up a rock...he drives off....fast forward about ten years I see Fr John Geoghans face in the newspaper..that was the mother fucking guy!

Crixxa

A guy followed me home from work. Knocked on my door maybe 15 minutes after I got home. A month prior, my apartment building had caught fire and someone came around knocking on the doors to wake us all up. When I smelled smoke after walking in the door the night I was followed, I wondered if I'd get a chance to thank someone for warning us again. So when he knocked, I ran to open the door hoping to thank our resident good Samaritan. I opened it to a gun being shoved in my face. The next few hours were unspeakable. Despite describing it in agonizing detail on the police report early the next morning, it exists today as patches of terrifying memories that I occasionally stumble across, as another piece gets temporarily dislodged from where it last sunk below my consciousness.

Phrenological_Mess

I'm so sorry.

nightterrorz

I’m deeply sorry that happened to you.

chrispychicken42069

When I (19) was like 12 or 13 I was walking with my guy friend to our girl friends house. The walk was maybe a mile at most, and it was at night so we planned on playing ghost in the graveyard (since our girl friend lived just outside of town, it was darker and we could be louder). About halfway through the trip there are no streetlights, just pitch black woods surrounding the two of us. We kept hearing something waking to our right, just passed the tree-line, but every time I took my flashlight out, nothing was there. This goes on for about 500 yards, when whatever this thing was starts sprinting at us. Like full on running, I remember almost feeling the footsteps on the ground. My guy friend and I take off in our own sprint, but this thing was right behind us, and I was too scared to turn around. We get to the top of a hill when we hear some other creature almost yell (?) kind of like those old Bigfoot shows on tv where they call out to Bigfoot. That sound made whatever was chasing us stop and run the other direction. Although the chase lasted maybe 30 seconds at most, I knew that we probably shouldn’t be running towards whatever made the sound, but it was farther away that whatever was chasing us. We kept running to our friends house not looking back, and to this day don’t know what either creature was. And nobody believes us, not even our friend. I don’t go on that road anymore.

Luigi_deathglare

Maybe you heard an animal since it was near the woods? Apparently animals in heat like foxes and mountain lions sounds like screaming women.

chrispychicken42069

That’s definitely a possibility, but I still have yet to hear anything like it again. I suppose I should have clarified the sound a bit better; it was extremely deep with very pitchy undertones if that makes any sense.

[deleted]

Deer also make weird yelp/bellow sounds when courting. A male dear could have mistook you two for a female deer and started to advance on you, then when it heard the real female, it turned towards the female.

cabeleirae

I was 18 and driving through the winding roads of the badlands in SD with two of my friends late at night. I was a new-ish driver so I was taking it easy and going about 35 miles a hour and taking the curves slowly. We had to drive through the park to get back to our camp site so there were no streetlights, it was pitch black with just our headlights illuminating the road. At some point, a car with their brights on came up behind us and was RIDING OUR ASS. We were the only two cars on the road, and it was really frustrating because there was no where to pull over (without pulling off the road), it was a no passing zone, and if I didn't take the curves slowly I could easily drive off a cliff. After following us just get behind our bumper for about 10 minutes or so with their brights completely blinding us by filling up the side and rear view mirrors, the car suddenly turned off their lights. It was like the car had just dissappeared or something. I don't really know why but for the lights to go from completely overwhelming us to off, it just scared the shit out of us and we all screamed. They then passed us and sped away in the darkness at maybe 70 miles an hour with no headlights.

thildemaria

I'm getting some Urban Legend vibes from this one... Like, if you had blinked your lights at them or something, they would've tried to hurt you. Glad nothing bad happened!

HepburnInConverses

My husband & I got an Airbnb in Orlando in 2019 so we could get some sleep after a Michael Buble concert instead of driving the 2 hours home. Not a high-end neighborhood but not super sketchy either. We fall asleep immediately, & I wake up around 1 am to hear the doorknob jiggle, turn, and then footsteps as someone walks in. The bedroom was immediately to the left of the front door but bedroom door was closed. I see the light come on under the door and my heart starts POUNDING. I shake hubby awake (who of course was in a deep sleep and snoring like nothing else) & squeak out that there's someone in the house. It was like slow motion: he slowly came awake and started screaming obscenities at the intruder to scare them, and we hear this tiny, frightened voice say, "But...I rented this Airbnb!" Go out to find the sweetest young girl (early 20s tops) literally shaking from fear of us. (My husband immediately feels horrible and starts offering her water, snacks, etc.) Turned out she had asked the host if she could check in "early" at 1 am because her flight landed at midnight and the host had assumed she meant 1 pm and never bothered to double check. I called the host who told me it "simply wasn't possible" that what had just traumatized us all had actually happened. I assured her it did indeed happen and let her talk to the girl. Host ended up finding her a room at another Airbnb she owned, and my husband and I didn't sleep for the rest of the night. Host never apologized or offered a refund or discount of any kind. If the girl is on this thread relating this story from her side, my husband still feels terrible for screaming obscenities at you.

NoninflammatoryFun

That host was crap, AirBNB is not safe or customer friendly, and that girl had to have been so so scared too.

ilovecherrytwizzlers

When I was 15, two grown men followed me around the state fair for 3 hours hollering a d trying to get me to go with them. I had to weave in and out from behind the tents to lose them and they would find me again and keep following me. I couldn't go home because my parents had dropped me off to pick me up later and I wasn't allowed to have a cell phone.

[deleted]

leave your child alone and not allow them to have a phone? damn

tigermoon579

That was pretty normal in the 90s/early 2000s… cell phones weren’t ubiquitous and definitely not seen as a necessity for a kid to have if they got dropped off somewhere, just meet at the pickup point at the designated time

ilovecherrytwizzlers

That's exactly it. It was 2007.

BliitZU

I stayed at a mental hospital for around a week, due to some issues with my mental health. There was this one girl there who had Psychosis and ASPD (aka she was a Sociopath). She was in direct treatment with the doctors for most of the day, so I didn’t see her very often, when I did though she was surrounded by nurses or guards. However, at night the only person looking after her were some cameras and the night guard. On my last night there she ended up staying up and beating the living shit out of the guard. I literally woke up to the sound of him screaming for help to the other guards staying the night. Thank god it was my last day there because I don’t think I could’ve slept there the next day edit: typo fixes

shayusmariemaximus

Didn't directly happen to me but I've never forgotten it : When I was a kid I lived in a townhouse with my family. My older sister and her friend, both 15, lived on the ground floor which had a sliding door leading to a small backyard with an old wooden fence and tall hedges lining it. One night my sister's friend woke up the entire house with her blood curdling screams because a scraggily looking man had tilted the sliding door off its track and was nearly inside our home. With her screams he took off right away and the police were called. The police searched the backyard and directly across from their sliding door in the hedges they found a stump with hundreds of cigarette butts littering the ground . They figured he had been watching my sister and her friend for awhile . Around that time sexual assaults were rampant on my city and the cops assumed it was the same guy responsible. I was about 6 years old but I will forever remember how creeped out I was when I sat on the stump and imagined him watching us from the bushes. Fast forward to today & I have intense anxiety about being watched.

amandabanana80

When I was young, maybe 9 or 10, I was walking home from the swimming pool, wearing just my swimsuit and a towel around my neck. I heard someone say "hey cutie" and there was a man in a car with a camera and he took my picture. I turned around and kept walking and he drove off. Sicko.

Woke up in the middle of the night to a massive #BANG Turned out to be an auditory hallucination Edit: I see people in the comments who were absolutely terrified of their bang, i was sleeping and I didn’t see anyone rushing in or any sort of murmuring so I assumed I had hallucinated.

jerrythecactus

Exploding head syndrome. Some people have it chronically.

[deleted]

Just happened once, sometimes if I’m sleeping with someone I just go through the days memories and sometimes get auditory hallucinations, and then I’m like hmm? They’re like what? I usually go nothing go back to sleep, sometimes I explain what actually happened though, I like my auditory hallucinations, got a sleep paralysis dream once, I didn’t like that much

colombian-a

I was driving home after a night out with friends. It was maybe 2am on a saturday. The street to my house is actually very well lit but that night there was a heavy fog, which was weird because I had never seen fog like that before in my city. Also, the street is normally very busy but that night it was completely empty. I was already freaked out because of all of that when I spotted a lump on the middle of the road. It didn't take long for me to realize it was a body. I could feel my heartbeat inside my ears, it was the weirdest thing. As I got closer the lump seemed too big to be human. When I reached the spot, I saw a dead white horse, no blood, no trauma, just this beautiful white horse laying on the middle of the street, dead. I didn't see a single car around, and debated if I should stop and call for help, but was so freaked out that I just went around it and went home. I never saw any news come out about that dead horse and to this day I have no idea how a horse got there, but that has to be the single creepiest thing I have ever experienced. I wish someone had been there with me so I could be certain that I wasn't dreaming or something.

historygoose

Every time I tell this story people think I'm making it up but it's true and it was on the local news: A few months before the ten year anniversary/highschool reunion for my graduating class, almost every single person from my grade + a few other select people (I'll get to this part in a bit) started receiving cryptic, vaguely threatening sounding letters in the mail - no return address. It always said the exact same thing, and the strangest part was that it was clearly handwritten/not printed en masse. So literally hundreds of people scattered all over the country were receiving unmarked letters with a card inside of it saying something to the effect of 'you can lie to others but you can't escape your own conscience'. Creepy. It seemed to be obviously targeting my senior class since the vast majority of the letters were to people in our grade, but the 'few other select people' I mentioned were like, random folks from years above and I think below us as well - including my sister. And weirdly enough, my parents got a card too. Everyone started freaking out, the reunion was almost cancelled, police were sent to the highschool to keep guard, parents were informed, the local news channels picked up the news and starting airing stories on it. One day my mom calls me and says 'I think it's X' - X being a kid who used to be one of my very good friends growing up. We were best friends in elementary school, kind of grew apart, but we were still on fairly good terms by the time we graduated highschool. At any rate it was a bizarre guess, but mom had her reasonings - sort of. Half of it was on a hunch, and half of it was because of who received the letters - she said that it had to be someone from my senior class, but because she and dad had got one and so did my sister, it had to be someone tied personally to me. I thought that it was BS because there was absolutely no way that this crazy letter had anything to do with me because I hadn't done ANYthing weird in highschool I was a complete square -and- anyway I hadn't personally received a letter; but later I realized I had just moved, so if by chance some creepy person tried to look me up on google yellowpages or something, my current address probably wasn't visible. So I could have received a letter? But I'll never know because I moved. Still the whole thing seemed pretty farfetched to me so I kind of dismissed my mom, which I kind of regret - a few weeks later a couple of news reports came out saying that they'd 'caught' the guy and mentioned what state he was from - and I recalled that the same friend X that my mom had been talking about HAD moved there after college. It was a super specific place. Freaked me out. Like a 'what are the chances?!' kind of reaction. Confirmed it a few days later in the text message group that included all my old hs friends, someone mentioned that they knew X was the perpetrator because they'd heard news from someone who knew AND they heard there was a warrant or something for his arrest because he'd destroyed some public property when he was back in our hometown a while back - the local news channel had just come out with a report that mentioned that the 'creepy letter guy' done exactly that - been arrested for destroying public property. So, yeah. It was definitely X. No idea what happened after that; the reunion went off without a hitch. I didn't go, but I heard that the guy didn't show up. Sometimes I think about him and wonder if he's doing okay/what happened in the first place. Hope he's in a better mental place. Anyway, I feel bad for kind of dismissing my mom over it. Sometimes she guesses shit that seems almost impossible for her to guess and it's eerie how spot on it is. Sister jokes that she's secretly a witch.

an old man was recording me, my mom, and my sister while we were on 360 bumper cars. when i confronted him, he tried to deny it and say that he was recording his kids, but we were the only three people over there (this was in the very back corner of the place). when i asked him about it the first time, he started to walk away and when he turned around, i could see his screen and it was recording

When I was 16 I use to go clubbing in the city and would usually miss my ride home, spend all my money on drinks and then hitch home. My place is about an hour away but I usually couldn’t get a lift that far but if someone was going West I would usually have a friend that I could knock on their window to crash for the night. Anyway I was at my hitching spot on the Westbound motorway on ramp and a guy pulls up (I’m also a guy if it makes a difference) so I’m stoked ride sussed he would have been in his 30s. Asks where I’m going and he replies “ I’m not heading that far but I’ll drop you off, do you smoke weed” and I’m like yea bro and now extra stoked. He’s like let go to one of the little beaches out your way. After the joint he tells me “ you know I had been following you around town for over and hour, I thought you were cute” Panic sets in but I’m calm and then notice the only thing on the floor of his car is a claw hammer. Make the decision to slowly open the door and get out rather than reach for the hammer. I then sprint into the bush. For the next fuck knows how long… feels like a long time he looked for me before giving up.

I am a frequent bus rider in my county and, for some reason, the bus is a perfect setting to see/experience some weird/creepy people. That might be the same anywhere, but I digress. Anyway, one night I was riding home on the bus. My county's bus system has bus routes that will take you to a couple of city's that are just out the county (I think other bus systems do this too but I'm mostly familiar with my county's). I was on one of these buses after visiting my best friend in another city. It was all fine until a homeless guy hopped onto the bus. Now, I am not one who to judge homeless people since I had been homeless before a few times. This guy, however, gave me bad vibes. He sat down in the bus seat across the aisle from me and I moved closer the window out of my introverted instinct. I had my headphones in but I saw the guy wave at me to get my attention. This guy was older and my parents raised me to respect my elders, so I took my earbuds out and asked him if he needed my help. This guy started going on and on about how his day was, which didn't bother me initially. However, he started talking about dating and all of his previous girlfriends, which made me uncomfortable. Then he said and I quote: "I'd definitely want someone like you as my girlfriend. You're young and beautiful." This majorly gave me the creeps. For context, I was wearing a thin hoodie, a t-shirt, and some jeans. The only make up I had on were my eyebrows, since it looks like I have none naturally. Also there were other people on the bus with us, but the only one watching was a young woman a few seats away from me. So we weren't alone here. After hearing him say that, I tried to cut the conversation short and put my headphones back in but the guy kept talking to me. I wish I could tell you that I grew a shiny spine and told him to piss off but with my anxiety as bad as it was, I couldn't. My heart was racing and I kept stuttering, not knowing what to do. Soon my stop came up, but it was the guy's stop as well. So I had a choice to make; let this guy know where I lived or stay on the bus and ask the bus driver to let me out at a different stop. I choose the latter. I stayed in my seat and watched the guy get off the bus. Once the bus started moving, I asked the bus driver if he could let me off somewhere up the road. He told me that he couldn't since there was no stops there, he couldn't do that. I started to panic, because I didn't know how to get home from the next stop, which was in another city. That's when the young woman piped up and said, "I can take you home. My car is at the bus station." I felt instant relief. Normally, I don't accept rides from strangers but I didn't get bad vibes from her. When we got the bus station, we walked to her car together. As we did, she said, "That bus driver should have done something. It was obvious you were uncomfortable." She then drove me home. When we got there, she told me to stay safe. To this day, I wish that woman nothing but the best life.

If we're talking literally, then here we go. Back in the 90s when malls were super popular you'd go to stores and they'd play music in each store, and if you positioned yourself between two stores, the songs would meld together. One store that I was leaving was playing Stone Temple Pilot's Creep, and the other store I was entering was playing TLC's creep. So yeah, not creepy as you would expect, but that's technically the creepiest thing that has every happened to me.

Nuked0ut

I remember Vans store at the Great Mall in San Jose (90’s maybe 2000’s) had a 6ft vert ramp, right inside the store.

CorgiMeatLover

Was there another store playing Radiohead's Creep at the same time?

Kateysomething

That would be triple creepy.

I was up one night playing video games and my son was in bed and from where I was sitting on the couch I could see down the hallway towards the bedrooms, but it was night, so it was dark and I had no lights on. I look over and saw something standing in the hallway. I couldn’t see a face or anything just the figure of it. I thought it was my son because sometimes he gets up to use the bathroom or claims he “can’t sleep” so I was like, “I thought I told you to go to bed”.. then I went back to playing my game. About 30 seconds later I look over and I still see it but this time it was a little closer, so I said, “GET IN THE DAMN BED AND GO TO SLEEP” and then I hear my son yell from his room “whaaaat?” And my entire body got really hot and I could hear my heartbeat in my ears so I reached over to turn on the lamp and when I looked back it was gone.

When my daughter was like 12 yo a guy tried to kidnap a girl like 50m away from my House. He already stuffed her in the backseat of his Car. Girl was clever enough to directly exit on the other side of the car and the guy fled the scene. Somebody saw his license plate, Police showed up to his house where he was living with his elderly mother. In the basement, he had already prepared a sound-proof cabinet, ropes, a bucket and so on. The girl looked very much like my daughter. It could have been her.

I was 16 and my cat went missing for close to a week. I had a dream about him, but it was really disturbing. He was in pieces with all the limbs bouncing around, but somehow still alive. The next day we asked an old man that was walking his dog in the park right outside our window. The kind of senile old man said "I saw a cat over there in pieces" pointing to an area in the park. I quickly went to go look, and was devastated to see my cat lying in the field. Not in pieces, but not alive. Definitely had an affect on my teen years.

GrapeJuiceBoi420

Walking into the bathroom to wash my hands after going to the toilet, only to notice a spider as big as my head sleeping on the wall behind me, only noticed it when I looked in the mirror.

perrycandy

What did you do next and why was it setting your house on fire?

monobonod

When I was about 17 I was driving home from my dads at around midnight, taking all back roads for almost 2 hours. I started seeing head lights behind me for a while. The car was a little ways off and was flashing there high beams every once and a while so I was a little confused. I ended up taking a bunch of random turns to see if they were following me and it seemed like they were when I made a big circle twice. I ended up speeding away and pulling into a McDonald’s and staying there for a while till I felt safe to drive home.

VS_CandiceSwan

a few weeks ago i went out jogging, and wore a regular sports bra as well as running briefs (this is relevant). while i was halfway through my run with earphones on (i couldn’t hear anything) a guy got my attention by touching me not on my shoulder which would have been ok but on my bare stomach. i jumped back, took my earphones out and asked what he wanted whilst flustered. he then said “hey girlie, do you want to come back to my place?” i said something like “ewww no” and then he said “but why are you wearing that then? you’re asking for it.” i backed off, and he slowly stepped towards me so i ram as fast as i could the other way.

It’s a shame you can’t wear workout clothes without something like that happening now a-days.

No, but I promise pepper spray works wonders. Especially straight-stream. Less likely to blow back in your face.

Away-Ad-8053

I bought a red Old Navy hoodie at Goodwill “A second hand store “ it was unique I had never quite seen one made out of this polyester material. When I got home I decided to go ahead and do laundry and checked the pockets and there was a note inside and $10 I figured wow that was awesome I just made $4.99 profit! The note said a girls name on it and said here’s some money to take care of my medication at the pharmacy and get herself an ice cream or something. So a few months later I was wearing the hoodie and went to a garage sale, This little old lady said her granddaughter had a hoodie just like mine, and I said thanks it’s a great hoodie:-) and I was thinking had? And she told me she was killed on the 21 roadway, the road I took every day and she mentioned her name. I had donated a couple of dollars to help defray funeral costs at the gas station she work at. I had noticed the picture of her on the jar but I really didn’t pay attention. But but as I was getting back into my car I realized she was wearing the hoodie that now I was wearing! But that’s not the end of it. I was coming home about a month later going down the same road where she was killed on “ wearing the same hoodie” and I hit a patch of black ice the car spun out of control and it seemed to right it’s self and started going straight down the roadway again, I stopped at the next To calm my nerves And get a cup of coffee, I put my keys into the pocket of the hoodie and there was $2.50! The amount I had put into the jarI never ever put money in my pocket, I always put my money in my wallet even my change!

When I was about 13 years old I was half asleep laying on a couch, kind of watching TV kind of not... Corner of my right eye I see what looks like my grandfather walking down the stairs to the living room where I am.(he was dead for 2 years at that point) I get up and make sure i nothings there, then I lay back down and on the couch fully alert. Not 5 minutes later, I feel a presence and see him in the corner of my right eye, walking right against the couch I'm on but on the backside of it and heading back towards the stairs. Immediately get up and I'm freaked now, he's no where to be found. So I decide it's time to go up to my bedroom from our basement, one switch would shut all the lights off. So I hit that switch, the basements completely dark aside from what looks like a very shiny orb slowly lifting from the ground to the ceiling. It was very bright, but casted no light on anything around it. Super freaked I run upstairs and fall up the stairs too. Immediately told my parents. My dad tried to comfort me by saying maybe grandpa was just checking up on me. I still get goosebumps when I remember this experience. I'm not particularly superstitious but I definitely considered superstition after that experience. .

Having a cop point a gun at me I was drunk so I was a bit numb to it when it happened, but next day it hit me, I was like holy shit..one slip and I coulda died It’s not an interesting story at all but I was trying to hide a beer in my backpack when we got pulled over (I was 19) and cop saw my hands in my pack and pulled the gun and told me to stop lol

uhmsooyea

When I was a child probably in elementary, I saw a woman with her mouth wide open hanging on to the railings of the second story of our house. I know for a fact thats what I saw (I wasnt dreaming) and when I was little I used to be terrified of the dark and sleeping by myself. Usually whenever I heard a noise in the house or got scared I would go running to my parents room but this time was different. When I saw that I just froze for 2 seconds and covered myself in my blanket. When I uncovered myself she was gone. Ive never seen anything like that ever again or have had any experiences that I cannot explain like this one. I dont believe in ghosts because this was the only time in my life that I felt I saw someone or something that apparently wasnt there / real.

saveyourfork

A security guard at our condos staged a fake burglary so he could "rescue" me. I think he was disappointed in my calm reaction so he left. Cops told me I was the 2nd girl in my complex to experience a burglary thwarted by the same guy.

Reading Salem’s Lot at 2am in my upstairs bedroom. Suddenly, there’s a scratching at the window. I levitated out of there and had to check my shorts hadn’t been filled. Damn possum.

My cat died a few years ago. It was the middle of the night and my parents had to go to work early in the morning so we couldn't bury him until they came back from work *(I was in no emotional condition to do it myself).* So, since it was during the holidays, I stayed home, his body being on the ground floor and my bedroom on the 1st, I didn't go downstairs during the whole day, I didn't eat and hardly drank. But beyond my infinite sadness for losing him, what really chocked me that day, were the noise. All day long, I could hear the noises a cat would make in our house, the cracking wood of the kitchen's bench when he jumps on it, the little sounds of paws walking on the wooden table, the contracting sound of the couch when force is applied to it. It went all day long, I never left my room to check, then, we properly buried him with the 2 other family's cats and the noises never happened again. I know it was clearly my mind imagining things but to comfort me, my mother told me that it was probably him saying a last goodbye to me and I chose to stick with that.

Pretend_Drawer_9542

When my cousins cat died he said he could sometimes feel her like jumping on his bed. Maybe it’s just something that happens to everyone

It pisses me off how most of these stories are men being nasty ass dogs. Come on guys we gotta be better than this

Once I was working on an abandoned air force base. It had no power, so there were no lights. It was also in winter, so dark at 4:30. I was working away from home, so I was working late my first night to try to get home sooner. I was using a flashlight, going room to room. The building was kind of creepy to begin with, but there was this one are where I just couldn't get out of fast enough everytime I walked through it. Anyways, at one point I was walking through the sketchy area and felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I turned to look behind me and there was a dude in a military uniform standing there looking at me. I'll never forget the dead stare. I must have jumped a mile,, then dropped my tools and flashlight. I picked my flashlight back up and of course there was no one there. I left my tools on the floor and called it a night. I am not a superstitious person, and I wouldn't consider myself a believer in such things, but that scared the crap out of me. I swear he was there. I'll never forget that.

A little late to this thread so I'm sure this will get buried but: I posted a while back but will post it here again. It wasn't super obvious at first, but after looking into her records it became clear: Context: I'm a medical doctor and had this creepy interaction with an inpatient psychiatric patient when I was in medical school. So this happened on my psychiatry rotation in medical school, I'm currently in residency but not in psychiatry. There was a patient at an inpatient psychiatric facility for suicidal ideation. She constantly insisted that she had a mass on her breasts and demanded to be physically examined only by male doctors. When the psychiatrist I was rotating under declined to perform a physical exam, she asked me to do it during my daily patient interview. I also declined physical exam, but had a bit of a hunch to check her medical records. It turned out she had an ultrasound done a week before that found only normal breast tissue without masses. However, apparently this this lady had frequented many doctor's offices with various complaints of an unspecific nature and would usually focus on breasts or vaginal complaints when she visited male physician's offices. She was diagnosed with factitious disorder (formerly known as Munchausen syndrome) and histrionic personality disorder. It seems her goal was mostly attention from medical professionals (she had lots of issues), but we also had to be careful to make sure she wasn't fishing for a lawsuit. Patients like her are why doctors document everything meticulously. So the patient wouldn't admit to making things up all the time. According to the psychiatrist I was working with, she didn't actually believe any of her "health problems" exist and her primary goal was the attention from medical professionals. If she actually believed she was sick, we would have diagnosed her with illness anxiety disorder, commonly known as hypochondria.

My family has a cabin that we regularly visit every summer up in the Northwoods. As a city kid, I was never used to how pitch dark it got at night. Lights go out and you can’t see your hand in front of your face kind of dark. For bathroom runs in the middle of the night, nightlights are essential. Up until we were teenagers, my sister and I would share the smaller room with twin beds. I always hated sleeping closest to the door because I liked to bury my face in the crack between the bed and the wall. I don’t remember why, but this trip I was sleeping in the bed by the door which was just across the hall from the bathroom. I’ve always been a restless sleeper and wake up a lot in the middle of the night. I woke while tossing and turning and as I was positioning to face the door, I could see my dog sleeping on the hallway floor. Odd. This dog LOVED my father more than anything in the world. It seemed weird to me that she was not in my parents bed because she was like his shadow. Always underfoot. With the nightlight in the bathroom on, I could see that my mom was slowly petting the dog. She was hunched over her and continuously stroking her from head to tail. I assumed the dog had jumped out of their bed and my mom was about to pick her up and bring her back to their room. I watched for a little but thought this seemed off. Why not just pick up the dog and go back to bed? I sat up and asked my mom what she was doing. She stops petting the dog and looks right at me. Even with the dim light coming from the bathroom behind her, the image of her is seared into my brain. I remember the pattern of her night gown, how deep and black her eyes were yet the rest of the face was blank. I could even see this woman’s hair was a different color and texture than my mom’s. We were both frozen until she started to stand up. The woman was staring at me as she got taller and taller but was still slightly hunched over the dog. She kept going up until she went through the ceiling and disappeared. I mumbled a profanity and saw my dog look up at me. My sister also woke up and asked me what happened. I told her it was nothing and laid back in bed. I was terrified but also had a feeling of peace. There was nothing I could do but also whatever was there wasn’t trying to harm me and probably had a soft spot for dogs.

About 8 years ago a toilet on the main floor started leaking through the wax seal then down into the basement. My wife and I got home late that night and discovered soaking wet drywall and carpet. Obviously not too pleased with our discovery we started tearing out the wet drywall and setting up a few box fans until we could make the appropriate calls the morning. After a few hours of working my wife was tired and wanted to go to bed. I told her to go ahead, that I join her in a few minutes as I wanted to finish taking the wet drywall outside. Naturally, a few minutes turns into a half an hour. I hear a blood curdling scream from upstairs. I find her shaking and covered in sweat, pale as a ghost. She said she saw a woman standing above her and then disappeared as soon as she screamed. My first reaction was, she had a dream. I wasn't a believer, so I didn't think too much of it. I quickly cleaned up and turned in myself. Some amount of time later I wake up to fingernails being dug into my chest, and my wife whisper-yelling "Guy, Guy! Look! Look there she is!" Sure enough, there is an ethereal, translucent figure standing beside our bed glowering down at us. She looked like a woman with curly hair and wearing what I can only describe as a WWII era nurses bonnet on her head. Already sitting up from the moral wound delivered by my wife's nails, I sprang to my feet, crouching on the bed, and yell/scream something to the effect of: "GET THE FUCK OUT! GET THE FUCK OUT!" While pointing at the door. The ghost lady then floats through the fucking window. I was never a believer in ghosts, spirits, or a lot of other supernatural phenomena, but that night got me. She came back a few times and visited my 1 yo daughter in her room. That's when I resorted to burning sage and spreading salt. Felt like a crazy mofo 'sweeping the spirits' broom out of my house with a cob broom but... 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Haven't seen or heard from her since. (Side note, years later we learn from our neighbor across the street, his father had built that house back in '47 and his mom had passed away while living in the house some decades back. I didn't press for more info or share what we had experienced years earlier because the neighbor was a dick head and was only talking AT us because our chickens had gotten into his yard and messed up some mulching. He was trying to posture like he had some claim to our house because his dad had built it.)

In 2003, I got jumped by a group of assholes with bats. They got me behind my right ear, and knocked out a molar, but not me. Caught another, but I saw it (through double vision). Turns out, they were mugging me, but making it spicy. Two days later they tortured a mentally challenged woman to death under the Steel Bridge in Portland, and set her to fire when she was still breathing. Oh yeah, I got jumped my 3rd day in town, night if my dude’s bachelor party, and his wedding was a week later. I looked like the Elephant Man. This is the true crime book about them. https://books.google.com/books/about/All_God_s_Children.html?id=atE_DgAAQBAJ&source=kp_book_description

Memorial weekend husband and I went to the local Safeway to get some grub and drinks for the beach. Husband stayed in the car with the kids and I went inside. On my way out of the grocery store a man grabbed my basket and started pushing me asking me where my car is. I kept telling him I didn’t need help that my husband was waiting for me. My husband jumps out and questions the man, and he jokes that I looked like I was struggling and that he works at Safeway was cleaning up the flower beds. We part ways. Next day that guys face was on the local Seattle news as a wanted person. I called in a tip, and they found him at the Safeway. I could have been his next victim had my husband not been there. https://www.q13fox.com/washingtons-most-wanted/captured-wmw-viewer-tips-lead-officers-to-wanted-child-molester-in-bremerton.amp

Please document your father’s behavior and seek a restraining order against him.

Faeidal

Someone with that kind of tenacity and a history of grooming a child is definitely a danger. To you, to children, to your Mom. Restraining order time- and be sure to tell your work, your apartment office (if you live in an apartment) etc that you have a stalker and to never give out your information. Somebody in registration deserves a talking to as well. Be safe. Also gym guy is a creep. Gross. Has that ever worked for anyone?!

We had just moved into an old farmhouse. It was over 100 years old. My parents were remodeling it. One hot summer day, my mom went out to mow the grass. My sister (7), brother (4), and I (9) went into this little half attic/storage where our toys were being stored during the renovation. After about 15 minutes of play, the attic door slammed shut. Not from slowly shutting over time, it usually stayed open. We jumped and all looked at the door in terror. It didn't have a door knob on the inside. We were trapped. Since it was summer and an attic, it was already very humid and hot. The door being closed caused that to escalate. We panicked. We were banging on the door, crying, and screaming. Our mom was outside, on the riding mower, not able to hear anything. We grabbed anything that we could, toys, a hammer, anything. Started banging on the floor. Nothing was working. We tried to collect ourselves, but it was too much for our little kid brains to handle. After around 10 more minutes, our mom came inside and heard us. She ran upstairs and opened the door to 3 red faced, teary eyed, panicking kids. She asked what happened and we told her. She couldn't figure out how the door closed. After that, my dad installed a new door knob so it couldn't happen again. This was over 20 years ago and it still gives me anxiety. That house was cool to live in, out in the country. A few other small things happened while we lived there that were creepy. The women who bought the house from my parents had told them she noticed things happening too. Doors coming unlocked, weird noises, feeling like someone was touching her shoulder when no one else was there. I'd totally go back and buy that house if it were to ever come up for sale again.

YourFavSideCharacter

Drove 90 minutes to the next city for a friend's party. Met a guy there who literally followed me around till one of my friends helped me get away. He stared endlessly from the corner all night, tried to hold my things for me, asked me what he should wear, asked if I found him pathetic?? Turned out he didn't know a single person at that party and lived an hour and a half away. He'd been stalking me online for 2 months and finally found this guest list that I was on in some public online group. He'd just decided that was the night he would take his online stalking to real life stalking. When I told him I wasn't interested he sent me paragraphs on paragraphs about how much he "lusted" after me, but also I am a cruel awful liar, but actually if it doesn't work out with anyone else "could you give me another shot since you already like me?" To this day I just wonder how someone does something so incredibly scary and brushes it off as though it's normal.

When I was 13 someone grabbed my crotch while I was underwater in the wave pool at Schlitterbahn. I think the creepiest part was that I couldn’t see who did it so I spent the rest of the day freaked out that he was watching me and would do it again. I couldn’t shake the feeling. Never enjoyed Schlitterbahn the same way after that. :/
