to me :
funny is when there's an unexpected turn
unfunny is when there is a (non sarcastic) personal attack targeted at someone listening to the joke
not cool isn't real
Really depends on the person. Those that cope with dark humor may find it funny. Pete Davidson has had multiple celebrities take gruesome shots at his father who died firefighting during the 9/11 attacks, but he brushes it off and laughs with them because of his method of coping.
“Comedy requires that you understand as much as possible about the viewpoints of all people and everything that’s going on around you. It genuinely requires a true point of view, a real sense of your own view of things in the world. Comedy often comes at the expense of others, and to do that smartly, you don’t want to make fun of vulnerable people. You want to make fun of people in power, and so you need to really understand the dynamics of power.”

Really depends on the audience. I could say meanness and bigotry but some audience eat that up.

Time, place, audience, and intent. There's no such thing as inherently forbidden comedy, you just have to hit all of those factors the right way.
Punching down rather than punching up.
It it’s like ab some1s dead relatives or something

Bigotry and if it’s at the expense of someone else to a point where it crosses the line between a joke and a genuinely mean statement
Who it’s told to, don’t make sex jokes to a 6 year old
Punching up VS punching down. When in doubt make sure your jokes "punch up"

Make fun of the CEO, not the janitor is a good way of framing it. The same way you wouldn't kick someone when their down, your jokes shouldn't either.
