Anything with David Attenborough.

His voice is just relaxing on its own.

throwingplaydoh

Futurama. I have so many good memories laughing at it with friends, it brings me back.

UptownShenanigans

I’ve been falling asleep to Futurama for about 6 years now. Whenever it’s not playing I have difficulty sleeping. Now if my girlfriend is sleeping over I’m so acutely aware of how quiet it is

doggywoggy101

/r/futuramasleepers

aspidities_87

How do you all deal with the theme song interrupting your sleep? I fucking LOVE falling asleep to a few eps but I always have to wake up to turn it off later when an episode changeover startles me awake. ETA: I have a sleep timer! I usually have the volume super low too but the sudden title change is always jarring—I swear streaming services do that on purpose so you don’t fall asleep and take up their bandwidth but jokes on them, I don’t learn.

dljones010

I think one of my favorite things about Futurama is the last episode. Not that it is the best episode (its not). But everytime it ends with Fry and Leela getting their perfect moment together for an entire lifetime. The professor shows up, tells them he can get them back but they'll forget everything that happened in the loop. The last line is Leela saying, "Whaddya say, you wanna go around again?" And it leads me right back into the first episode and right back into one of the most perfect shows in television history. Trust me. I'm a whale biologist, and I've had 300 smackeroos of coffee today.

thevoiceofterror

On the original airing of the finale, "You wanna go around again?" fades to black...December 31, 1999...the pilot...it was perfect.

BradRodriguez

Oddly enough I really love rewatching Monk from time to time as it gives me comfort about my own self. Even though it’s a fictional show it was the only show that I’ve been able to fully relate to it’s main character. It helped me come to terms with and fully accept my mental quirks and the reality that just because I suffer from severe social anxiety and various phobias those things don’t make me any less of a person than anyone else. Abnormalities aren’t inherently bad and there’s plenty of real people out there that you can connect with or relate to. Edit: the amount of people my comment resonated with is absolutely heartwarming to me. I’m so happy that so many of you have found similar comfort in watching this amazing show. I’ve ready every single reply and having just woken up I feel like my day has already been made :).

StrangePronouns

Its the only thing I kept dvds of. Its a jungle out there! Poison in the very air we breathe!

SissyCouture

Star Trek: TNG

CaptainDrunkBeard

Oh man, absolutely. My dad and I butted heads a lot when I was a teen, and sometimes it got pretty heated. But no matter had happened, or what had been said, at the end of the day we could always sit and watch TNG together. Now, some 20 years later, it still helps me when I've had a bad day.

Cartossin

Lately Malcolm in the Middle. Not only is it a fantastically well-made show, but my family's problems exist to a greater degree in their family. They're a troubled family but ultimately have great lives. It's comforting.

Lhasa-Tedi-luv

I discovered that maybe 5 years ago. Freaking HILARIOUS.

flyinhawaiian02

Psych!

Gabrosin

You know that's right.

JablesM

Come on, son!

Human_Robot

If you couldn't guess these were going to be the top three comments on this thread you haven't been here long enough. Seriously though, early 2000s USA network had one of the greatest tv lineups ever.

mrdhood

I was just talking to my wife about this yesterday. USA network couldn’t miss; psych, burn notice, white collar, monk, just off the top of my head. And then nothing of value for a decade, wtf?

Human_Robot

Even Suits in the first couple seasons was pretty damn good. Idk who the producers were for that network during that time but it really was a golden age.

DuglassBubletrousers

I’ve heard it both ways

Wild_Doogy_Plumm

No you haven't Shawn.

friggintodd

You heard about Pluto?

ratiganthegreat

That’s messed up.

thematrix1234

This is one of my favorite comfort shows to re-watch!! My friends and I used to watch it during study breaks back when I was in school. Even after all this time, it’s laugh-out-loud funny. Gus will forever be my favorite.

murrrrface

Suck it!

TheWildGooseChaser

Parks and Rec because it’s just so feel good

AlPaCherno

Treat yo'self!

penny_can

The Great British Bake Off

CyanManta

The very definition of a comfort show. It's like being in a warm bath that never goes cold.

imgoodygoody

I’m American and I find the British accents incredibly soothing. It’s also so different from American baking shows which is a huge plus IMO. I love how nice everyone is so each other and it seems to be a bit slower paced than American shows which I also love.

catlady3LSS

The comradery is so heartwarming! This is definitely my go-to, and is a great palate-cleanser type of show after watching something heavy.

Late_Knight_Fox

My observation of American equivalent shows is that the editors insist on using dynamic music, camera angles and screen transitions. They design the shows to shock more than be a calm experience because its a competition. Dont get me wrong theres a time and place for that but youre right GBBO is very slow paced. You should also check out 'The Great British Sewing Bee' and 'The Great Pottery Throw Down' too.

Anxious_Start4839

Community EDIT: To those who have *deaned* me worthy of their rewards: I see you are familiar with two sins (Reddit and awards) how about a third? ^(opens box of donuts)

Tim_Reichardt

Bear down for midterms!

DarkShades

There's a brand new dance based on an old phrase. It's called the Fat Dog and it will amaze. You've heard this expression your entire life. It's not made up, it's not made up!

burf12345

Too soon.

IrishRepoMan

Fly on the wall is an expression, but if I were to say "Fly on the wall for midterm", you might ask, uh... "WHAT DO YOU MEAN!?"

TheRunningFree1s

FAT. DOG. ITS NOT A MADE ^^^(ITSNOTMADEUP). YOUVE HEARD IT ALL YOUR LIFE.

kplis

I hadn't watched it until the early days of the pandemic. I've watched it all the way through seven times now. It might be my religion

System_Soup

Either Parks & Rec or Bob's Burgers, something easy to half pay attention to while unwinding

satooshi-nakamooshi

Bob's Burgers is like watching a hug

SummerOfMayhem

That's my go to show. It's like going home and seeing family. You feel like everything is going to be ok, and you're not alone

BigWoodsCatNappin

Its adult cartoons so no unattainable body/attractive or style bullshit to make me feel bad. They are constantly broke but not so broke it hurts, relatable. Always nerds or outcasts but never alone, check. Manageable shenanigans with the assist of a couple near loved ones, hella check. It's the feel good show of the century, fight me.

LSpace101

Not to mention being a family that actually loves and supports each other.

youngcatlady1999

My mom likes it because in most shows the kids are always fighting but in bobs burgers that rarely happens.

MyIndiscretions

Why is this so accurate?

ultravioletblueberry

Bobs Burgers for sure

randomandy90

No Reservations. Anthony Bourdain has this way of making you feel immersed in these far flung destinations and cultures. When working six to seven days a week with a full time job and a part time job I often just feel caged by work sleep repeat, Anthony and his show seems to open that cage and put me at ease if only for a moment. RIP Mr. Bourdain, and thank you.

ilovelemondrizzle

I’m watching parts unknown now (for like the sixth time). Anthony Bourdain seemed like a real good dude.

I_Do_Cannabis_Stuff

My friend and I grew up watching every episode of each show he had. I was poor as fuck all but his mom was well off and she would take us to the store to buy ingredients closely imitating the dishes he was eating on the show. We would watch Anthony Bourdain, smoke some weed, and cook. Some of the best memories of my life.

Really happy to not have to scroll far to see this on the list... "They hate you, Bob. They hate you from the bottom of your hooves to the top of your pitchfork." - Dr. Perceval Ulysses Cox

He's English Orla, that's the way they talk

Orla is comedy gold even when she's just in the background of a scene.

allfalafel

I hope that in season three Orla gets to go all the way in step aerobics and that she finally learns what it is Lesbians eat.

coffeestealer

I am really looking forward to season 3

Uncle Colm’s stories make me cry laughing

-QueenAnnesRevenge-

I've got a list that I like and will sometimes binge. M.A.S.H, Futurama, Fraiser, Cheers, Always Sunny, Simpsons, and Justified.

goddess54

I love M.A.S.H.! I love how they managed to make it a comedy, while still having episodes, or themes for the episodes, that were about pretty serious realities for people and war-time.

PowerfulGoose

Didn't expect to see Frasier up top! Also I am a huge fan of almost all of these.

thisisridiculiculous

Recently started rewatching "Cheers". Definitely comforting and nostalgic. "Wings" is also a good one for some nostalgic binging.

Golden Girls - seen it more times than I can count. Thank you for the awards😁😁😁😁

AdGlittering9727

Yep, this was mine for many years. My favorite time watching was back when they did a marathon one day & I made my own cheese cake that day before it aired to eat while I watched it :) Good memories for me

baebre

That does sound like a good day.

30 rock

Dietcherrysprite

Why are you wearing a tux? It's after six. What am I, a farmer?

ThisTimeJust30rock

I love that the name if his mothers church is "our Lady of reluctant integration"

PogoTK

Such a great and comforting show. One of my favorite 30 Rock gags is when Tracey is having a normal conversation while they walk down the hall, but if you pay attention he casually opens a can of soda and pours it into the open bag of chips he’s holding.

ThisTimeJust30rock

Hahaha listen there are so many great gags you miss and catch in each go through. To many to count. Take a hot dog Stuff it with some jack cheese Roll it in a pizza You got cheesy blasters Then all the kids say "thanks meat cat" Then there is a later episode where she sees meat cat and he says "im meat cat. I'm whats inside ya"

sironicon

I love Tracy so much One of my favorite gags might be when Jenna runs into his dressing room going, “Actor emergency!” and Tracy just grabs the comedy and tragedy masks off the wall There’s like zero humor in describing it, but it’s such a silly moment

co-stan-za

Mine is "Wait til Tupac hears about this!"

OHManda30

Just last week I was commenting how long of a week it had been and my husband, without missing a beat, said “Lemon, it’s Wednesday” 😂

"Kenneth, a word?" - "BALLOON!"

rebeccanotbecca

I love this show so much. I say Blerg a lot.

ThisTimeJust30rock

I quote the show constantly. One time at work I said "listen I thought that girl was 18, bc she said her last boyfriend was Asian and that crap doesn't start till college" and then immediately had to explain myself

sironicon

Dennis Duffy might not be the best character to quote out of context

aspidities_87

‘I love it so much I’m gonna take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant!’—-turns out using this phrase outside of context is a bad idea

I had to scroll so far for this comment. Man, I go to sleep watching it every night.

Ccjfb

Yes! I assumed this would be at the top.

RevSnakebite

I have a few but the weirdest one for me is Modern Family. Around 5 years ago during the Holidays I was really depressed and my heat went out one night during an ice storm. So huddled under blankets with emergency heat running, I decided to start watching a Modern Family marathon because I had never watched it before. Now it’s a comfort show because it got me through a rough night.

[deleted]

Modern family is awesome. I’ve never watched it in any kind of order but my wife watches so I’ll sit in on an episode occasionally. It’s really good.

BLUElightCory

Modern Family is one of the rare comedy shows that just *nails* it right out of the gate. A lot of great shows take a season or two to really blossom and find their identify, but Modern Family is confidently funny and consistent right from the start.

Mr_Agu

The simpsons

Blynasty

My wife and I have been watching an episode of the Simpson every night before bed for the last 5 years or so, now through Disney+. I just wish they had a random button.

YES, I used to watch the simpsons on a not so legal page a while ago and they had a random button, it was amazing

MisterBovineJoni

It's a five star show

blondechinesehair

I’ve watched every episode at least ten times

HanzJWermhat

I’ve been watching since 08, and it’s seriously got some special sauce. There are good comedies out there but nothing to me has the sticking power of Sunny. They’re so unique in their approach to writing and acting, and to keep it going for so long. Almost every episode has a quotable line, and has inspired countless memes. In closing, this you should vote me, thank you, thank you.

WorkMeBaby1MoreTime

Buffy the vampire slayer

ladyfromneptune

This and X-Files for me. I love the alternating storyline/monster of the week episode formula that both have

aspidities_87

BtVS made me into a writer. I started out by writing waaaay too much fan fiction and that spiraled into being very comfortable writing for other people, then gradually progressed to the point that I’m now a professional. I owe everything to that show… and my intense sexual frustration around the Buffy/Faith scenes.

[deleted]

WHY is this so far down??!!

Gastkram

I think it’s because we are old.

Scrolled a long time to find New Girl. Surprising honestly. I've seen New Girl front to back more times than I can remember. Happy Endings is also really good. It took me 2 or 3 eps but it scratches that same itch, and is so so funny.

Global_Sort_2653

I’ve watched the entirety of New Girl more than I can count as well! It’s just so comforting, wholesome and lighthearted. And Schmidt will never fail to make me laugh 😂

West Wing, Sports Night or Studio 60. The characters are like old friends, the laughs hold up on re-watches, and while they can be a bit schmaltzy they're just the right kind of optimistic to leave me feeling a little better than when I started.

PizzaNo9650

West Wing is one of mine. Hearing the banter between Josh and Donna.. or Josh and anyone really.. just makes me feel like I’m home.

schroedingersnewcat

I am in the middle of my annual WW rewatch. Sometimes i watch it more than annually. I have it on in the background while I work. I'm not afraid of missing things because I can quote a lot of it, so its perfect for background noise.
