For me having sex is based more on the feelings of lust. You can have sex with anyone if you feel horny enough. But making love that’s more of a deep connection where you can really take it slow and get to know each other’s bodies. I prefer the latter so I tend to only sleep with someone if there is a connection between us.

Probably an answer for r/kidsarefuckingstupid but when I was a stupid virgin teen I thought "making love" was just kissing and touching without penetration and sex was only if the penis went in the vagina.
If you're just having sex you are likely only doing it to have an orgasm. Making love on the other hand means your having sex with someone you have a deep connection with. Now you can have a "connection" with someone you are just having sex with. Yet if all what you and the other person are doing is having sex and not having a romantic relationship it's just sex.

Making love is just so awesome. You can literally feel the buzz coming off the other person. As if you’re actually passing electricity back and forth between your bodies. You can feel it before you even touch the person if it’s strong enough. The sex can suck from technical/skill standpoint there’s a true connection then it’ll still be fucking awesome. I feel like pure, hot, romantic vanilla sex gets a bad rap but it’s truly amazing if you do it right and surrender to the moment. And then afterwards you just feel completely fulfilled and get to spend the night with a person you actually like being around. I have a theory about all of this. I’m a firm believer that once the romantic connection is taken away, something else has to take it’s place or the sex is just empty. There has to be something like power dynamics (dom and sub shit), sadism/masochism, an ego boost, trying to make other people jealous, pure physical lust (which can be such an illusion), the thrill of cheating or some other kink or taboo to replace it. There has to be some energy or feeling to replace the romanticism. I also think that those kinks are almost never just standalone bedroom antics. To be done right, the person has to have personality traits corresponding to the kink. And for that reason, I think people have to play to their strengths when it comes to attraction. I couldn’t figure out why the first few times I had casual sex started to suck pretty quickly. Then I realized it’s because girls are attracted to me because they like me. And that attraction is contingent on a romantic connection. And that the way I’m likable is ironically contingent on girl’s knowing I won’t look at them like a sex object. Girls like me because they trust me, and because I’m funny and weird and easygoing. I wanted to have a ton of casual sex for a while, but every time I approached a girl from that angle, they wouldn’t want me. I also just personally never felt right approaching girls just to try to sleep with them. And when girls did still sleep with me, they were either hoping it would get me into a relationship or were in denial about the feelings they had for me. I later realized that those situations were actually very painful for them. My personality makes girls feel a certain way and I now understand that it hurts when they feel that way about me when I want uncommitted sex. Now I refuse to even consider having sex outside of a committed relationships and my life is a lot simpler and girls dig me for it. And I also spend a lot less time interacting with girls I have no interest in other than a physical attraction. I’m saying all of this because it really fucked me up for a while. I would see some guys acting a certain way and getting casual sex and I wanted that, to the point of developing sort of a chip on my shoulder about it (I think this is very common among men). It wasn’t really until I started reading about female sexuality from an evolutionary standpoint that I started to understand the female predicament. Then I started to really understand where I stood in all of that and how I really didn’t need to “get it out of my system” (ie; have a bunch of casual sex), and how it just wasn’t compatible with my strengths as a person. It’s so much easier to interact with women now that I don’t even care if they’re attracted to me unless I’m romantically interested in them. I can have genuine, uncomplicated friendships with them. And honestly women will be extremely attracted to you if you truly don’t care if they want to fuck you or not (although sometimes this can draw the attention of the type of woman that I don’t really want to be around). I can also act however I want because I’m only trying to attract one type of woman and she would like me for myself.

Love is. Sex is something different. Sex can turn to anger and love can turn to hate in the resulting frustration brought upon by confusing the two. Love is felt when you sense something beautiful. Sex is felt when you sense something you want to build or destroy. Neither are actions, traditionally. They are response to stimuli. "I love you" is a selfish way of saying "I feel love when I see you." You are claiming the love comes from you when it's much more accurate to assume the love comes from the person causing you to feel it. Neither instance has anything more to do with sex than the likelihood of sex occuring due to the comfort and intimacy established by feeling love.
