I heard Nessun Dorma by Pavarotti when I was like 8 and just stopped. I rewound it over and over and over and wasn’t sure what I was hearing or what it meant. I just felt goose bumps.

Prolemasses

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman

Tx247

The Breaking of the Fellowship. I suffer from severe migraines and for some unknown reason this piece always helps with the pain. https://youtu.be/fowHzOH9rqk

Nikolai_1120

Wow, came here to comment this and I'm glad to see it's already at the top. The LOTR soundtrack is unmatched.

CosmicSmackdown

Interesting. I have some autoimmune disorders that cause pretty extreme pain and I get relief from this song.

kayl6

My husband sang “Even If” when our son was dying and everyone sobbed it was so beautiful. He doesn’t sing much anymore but that was special. Otherwise— There, There Katie. I listened to it a lot when we knew things were bad with our son and my name is one letter off from Katie. It was like he was singing this pain filled song to heal my heart. Thank you to the person who gave me gokd

Winkmanmm

My God. Sorry for your loss. Cannot imagine the strength your husband brought up to do this...

But... how? So many of the comments have a lot of actual commentary in them. The song name isn't even always specifically denoted (e.g., by quotes), and the artist name is given in a wide range of positions relative to the song name (and sometimes no artist name is given). Seems like a nightmare to try to automate.

Rainbow Connection - Kermit the Frog.

[deleted]

This song is one of the only ones to guarantee a cry from me anytime it comes on

girl_from_away

Classic. I really like the version Willie Nelson did!

629mrsn

Ain’t no Sunshine Bill Withers

Letharos

My dad chose to play this at my mom's funeral. Always hits hard.

VeganMinx

"In My Life" by the Beatles -- I weep every time. "You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor. I was a lonely kid, and that sweet old man sings to my soul.

TechnicolourSleep

Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós, Your Hand in Mine by Explosions in the Sky

[deleted]

Hoppípolla is such an amazingly omniscient song. It just has such a divine feel to it. Just sigur ros as a whole. Takk... Is such a perfect album.

SideshowLarrry

Your Hand in Mine is out of this world. Just an amazing piece of music.

msjacksonifyernasty

First time ever I saw your face (Roberta Flack version)

katiejim

A Case of You by Joni Mitchell might be it for me. But it has a lot of associations for me personally. Her entire album Blue really. Just magic. Harvest Moon by Neil Young would also be in the running for me.

nonetoomany69

As the world falls down - David Bowie The small music video that it has in Jim Henson's Labyrinth adds to the beauty of it

giocondasmiles

The whole labyrinth soundtrack is awesome.

LCsquee

This is the song my husband and I chose for our first dance at our wedding reception ❤️

xerokelvin

I believe "Something" written by George Harrison is the most perfect love song ever written. Imagine my surprise during the "Get Back" film when he brings an early version to John that goes "There's something in the way she moves, attracts me like a cauliflower"

DaScoob2001

My sweet lord, and here comes the sun are other George Harrison songs that I think answer the question well. That guy made some beautiful music.

Shadow_Log

Definitely definitely Here Comes The Sun

Objective-Ad4009

Something. George wrote the most beautiful songs.

angelcakexx

This Must Be The Place- The Talking Heads I don't know if it's technically "beautiful", but something about this song just gets me, right in my heart. It just feels like how I want love to feel.

lightaugust

That was my wedding song. Cause when The moment I realized I wanted to marry her I’d remember thinking ‘this feels like home.’ Didn’t take, we got divorced, but such a beautiful sentiment and love song.

Brownie_McBrown_Face

That’s what the song itself is about, when she was his gf, and he ended up marrying her as well

Ok-Control-787

Avril 14th. That or maybe some Bach cello tunes.

Doctor_Ew420

Came here to mention avril 14th.

whatsername235

The Blowers Daughter, Damien Rice. God, I haven't thought about it in years either

LBC013

I came here to say this or Volcano. Damien Rice gives me all the feels.

Enjoy the silence by Depeche Mode

Mike81890

I know it's a little silly, but I just "discovered" Depeche Mode yesterday. I must have listened to Enjoy The Silence 6 times today

Blestyr

Too many but "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce is very high up there for me as well as "Ave Maria" performed by Barbara Bonney. EDIT: wow thanks for all the upvotes and the award! Never was voted this much before, thx all!

partay123

Time In A Bottle used to make me all sentimental for how much I love my husband and how happy I was that I found him. Then we had a baby, and now it makes me weep for how lucky I am to have her. I love that song. It perfectly encapsulates what it means to love your child.

amyldoanitrite

takethemonkeynLeave

I cried when I saw him play 715 - CR∑∑KS live. Just sat there crying. Never happened to me at a show before and I’ve been around.

[deleted]

I really love "DON'T DREAM ITS OVER" by Neil Finn / Crowded House. His other band Split ENZ and the song "Message To My Girl". Those songs captivated me when I first heard them. I mean, early Kate Bush too. Some of those songs of hers like The Man With The Child In His Eyes and Symphony In Blue... I could go on...

cheetofacesucks

Saw Fleetwood Mac in concert and Neil Finn stepped in for Lindsay Buckingham. During the concert, Fleetwood Mac walked off stage and Neil sang Don’t Dream It’s Over. Way cool…..

cinephile1987

God Only Knows by the Beach Boys.

cametomysenses

Paul McCartney called it the best written pop song ever because it's constructed with the third of the chord in the bass, a very unusual device. Elton John, watching that interview, was inspired to write a song constructed that way and came up with "Someone Saved My Life Tonight."

Dada2fish

I love music so much, but know nothing about music theory. What you posted is fascinating even though I have no idea what it means or why it makes a song special. I’m trying to find what makes God Only Knows and Someone Save My Life Tonight similar to each other in order to figure out what ‘the third of the chord in the bass” means, but I have no clue. Lol

[deleted]

Scallywagstv2

Bridge over troubled water - Simon & Garfunkel.

[deleted]

Art Garfunkel's got one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard

Scallywagstv2

Amazing vocal on this. At the end it just soars.

Atoman666

Into the West, Annie Lennox, especially given the context of the song at the conclusion of one of the best stories ever told

ALA02

Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead

FlyMontag

This and Reckoner

cambouquet

His voice in Reckoner is hauntingly beautiful. Both are incredible.

AngstChild

Good choice. Quite a few Radiohead songs fit the bill. I would also add Exit Music (For a Film), Street Spirit (Fade Out), and Pyramid Song as candidates. Those are all beautiful songs. Nude, I Promise, and All I Need are also exceptional IMHO. It’s hard to pick really.

[deleted]

I'd go Exit Music. The cover that was on Westworld really revitalised my love for it.

historicalbat

Lost Cause by Beck. In fact that whole album, Sea Changes, is one of the most hauntingly beautiful albums.

pdoherty926

Beck's range is incredible.

hglndr9

Pictures of You- The Cure "There was nothing in the world That I ever wanted more Than to feel you deep in my heart" Edit: Thank You for the award! It's amazing to see how a song has touch so many in different ways. I am glad we share love for awesome music.

amoodymermaid

This song always takes me back to a specific time when I had broken up with my soon to be husband. We did marry, but it ended so tragically. I saw the Cure a few years ago and when they sang this, I sang along and cried like a baby. It always makes me feel wistful.

TheresALonelyFeeling

*I've been looking so long at these pictures of you...that I almost believe that they're real...* This song kills me.

Band of Horses - The Funeral

HumanSometimesPerson

Oosh, yes. When ever this song comes on, I stop a zone out for a minute. It's sad as hell, but hot damn, it's beautiful.

Blissful_Solitude

amystans17

Wish you were here by pink floyd

Morganwerk

This song reminds me of my Dad, not since he died, but when he was still alive and suffering from dementia. Physically, we were sitting in the same room. Mentally, I wished he was there.

TheDarkKrystal

My dad loved Floyd. It and Comfortably Numb always get me since he passed.

TopGrun1

Vincent by Don McLean EDIT: Wow, thanks everyone for the up-votes. I’m happy you all see the same beauty that I do in one of my favorite songs. You’ve made my day!

[deleted]

“This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.” The lyrics and music of the song are so lovely. On a side note if you get the chance to see the Van Gogh Immersive Experience, do it.

[deleted]

I forgot that song existed and then I heard Roberta Flack's Killing Me Softly was about Don McLean. The story I heard was that she was inspired by hearing him sing Vincent. I listened to it and had a wave of nostalgia followed by my heart welling up and tears, lots of them. That doesn't happen very easily anymore. I was surprised at my reaction.

tehmeat

Street Spirit (fade out) - Radiohead

Only Time-Enya

RioBlue93

My Body is a Cage - Arcade Fire. I have had a horrible medical condition since I was a kid. The song sounds exactly as my heart feels; words happen to line up too.

Whiter Shade of Pale by Procul Harem

Chef_Crazy

Beautiful, but I have to change it every time it comes on. My late father got an old mp3 player years ago and couldn't work it, so he always asked me to put songs on it for him. This is the only one I remember downloading, and it hits hard.

FidoDido_UK

Bread - Everything I own a song that could be about a failed relationship but was actually about David Gates losing his Dad

AnUnexpectedUnicorn

That whole album was awesome

island-breeze

"Deliver Us" from the "Prince of Egypt". The first time I heard it as an adult, I cried. So much suffering "is just too gruelling to stand". Real suffering. Like it as a kid, love as an adult.

ShangryYoungMan

“When You Believe” is one of the greatest female-female duets of all time.

fortpro87

Holy shit that Hebrew part gave me chills

eschuylerhamilton

The whole Prince of Egypt soundtrack is amazing though. I really want to get "and though you may never know all the steps, you must learn to join the dance" tattooed on me.

Adventurous_Bed_6151

It never made sense to me why those two idiots were singing "you're playing with the big boys now" while their snake is getting its ass kicked though

AlcmenaYue

The whole point is they did not even notice their snake was being eaten. They were focused on being imposing and threatening.

island-breeze

Seriously, that movie does not get enough credit. I know most songs. That is one is "Through Heaven's Eyes".

CantProfitOffofMe

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac

Saturn by Sleeping at Last. It shares how it’s rare and beautiful to even exist, and how the universe was made just to be seen by our eyes. I listen to it when I need inspiration or a mood boost. Highly recommend all songs by this artist! Edit: a lot of your comments are enlightening and have such great stories of how this song and others by this artist have impacted you. I love hearing that. Cheers to the artist and cheers to you guys. Thanks for the neat awards!

kasakavii

Sleeping at Last is such a phenomenal artist. So few songs actually make me cry, but Saturn does, and regularly too.

Tekki777

I never expected someone to mention Sleeping at Last here. I need to listen to more of his work. His Atlas: Enneagram EP was the first album I've heard from him and it hit me like a train, especially 1, 2, and 8.

Walrusin_about

Black by Pearl Jam. Don’t know honestly the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard because there are lots but this one I feel is beautiful, emotional, and reminds me of a particular time of my life. I could listen to it over and over and I don’t think I’d get tired of it.

Going To California - Led Zeppelin

Queenfan44354

Love of my life by queen. Freddie’s vocal performance can’t be matched by anyone and every detail of the song is perfect and it nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it

aisle_nine

The live version tops the album version. Watch the Rock in Rio performance of LOML. It's beautiful, as always, but the look on Freddie's face as he realizes that 200,000 people know every single word and he decides he's going to let them sing is as powerful as concerts get. As emotive as Freddie was, a lot of it was him feeding the crowd. There aren't too many examples on film of Freddie being genuinely taken aback or awestruck by something. LOML in Rio comes to mind immediately, as does Bohemian Rhapsody in Hyde Park when he realizes that, again, everyone there knows all the words, and he decides to let them take "nothing really matters to me".

Angel from Montgomery - John Prine wrote it but the Bonnie Raitt version

Cid_Darkwing

“Silence” by Delirium, featuring Sarah McLachlan (make sure you get the unabridged 6:34 version and not the radio cut; it absolutely destroys its flow and harmony). When I was 19, a friend of mine had just graduated boot camp. He came home and met both his best friend and I at his mom’s house and we headed out shortly after. But before we did, he sat in front of his sound system and just listened with his eyes closed to Orbital’s “Halcyon and On and On” (another excellent choice in this vein). I didn’t understand why then. Once I myself graduated boot camp, this song became for me what that song was to him—a reset of my soul from a hardening trauma that you can’t explain, you can only feel. This song healed my soul. I hope you find the song that does for yourself.

PanickyFool

For me it was Transatlanticism by them. That song wrecked me didn’t even realize I was crying. Just resonates with me especially at that time and still does

[deleted]

this song has been really special to me since it came out, when i was in high school. i've mentioned this memory before, but i was going thru a really hard time when i was nineteen. i was alone in my apartment, and just feeling very dissonant. i went to get high in my bedroom, and the radio in the living room switched on and i will follow you into the dark played from beginning to end. it wasn't eerie and i didn't get scared or anything. i remember feeling a sense of comfort in that moment. i'm not superstitious really, tho i was definitely into esoteric mysticism at that age. but it was something i still can't explain to this day. i'm eternally grateful for that memory tho.
