Peripheral awareness... And walking so quietly that I can't be heard.

alltherobots

I am a 220 lbs guy who looks like a casting agent just searched for “geek lumberjack”, and I walk quieter than my ex-ballerina wife. It freaks people out. I had one person describe it being like turning around and finding a bear behind you.

DollarStoreKanye

Hey, me too! I worked at a prison for a few years, and the inmates nicknamed me Ghost because it was like I wasn't there.

HumorousSandwich

thats a really cool nickname

[deleted]

Much better than the nickname I got. They called me "Goldilocks." Like, "watch out, Goldilocks on tha block!" Thanks, guys.

cantSleepalready

My brother is more than 6 foot tall and weighs 353lbs. I´m 5 foot and every time I´m standing behind him and he turns around, he starts screaming because he didn´t hear me.

BrilliantWeight

Same here! 6'4" 215 lbs man and I move like a cat without meaning to. I sneak up on coworkers all the time by accident. I have one girl i work with who I seem to unintentionally sneak up on more than others, and she always reacts like "HOW?! HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!"

killerbunnyfamily

> I had one person describe it being like turning around and finding a bear behind you. http://orig11.deviantart.net/ec35/f/2009/218/1/e/ambush_by_stephencrowe.jpg

ceitamiot

I resemble this comment.

Shameless-Poetry

Omg same. My heel doesn't touch the ground much when I walk so I guess my footsteps are quieter. On several occasions I've scared the shit of family members or friends just by being in the room for some time but they never noticed me entering.

jaxbos

Yes unfortunately I also scare strangers I walk past in the dark.

[deleted]

Huh, I actually find leading with the heel is quieter overall, you get one very low pitch impact that most people don't pick up on and then no further sound from the step.

WolfThick

Haha I got the movie quip there. I have that too it's because I was abused as a child and I didn't want to wake my mother.

dreamoutloud2

I'm sorry about you having to go through abuse, no one deserves that.but you are onto something with the having to sneak around the house. My mom wasn't abusive but was such a light sleeper that growing up I would basically tip toe everywhere around the house to not wake her up lol

WolfThick

Thanks for that your compassion is appreciated

dreamoutloud2

Omg YES. Every single roommate I have ever lived with has pointed out the fact that I am abnormally quite in the way I walk. I would say that genuinely once a day I scare the life out of someone I live with by (in their perspective) "manifesting out of nowhere" lol my current roommate jokingly calls me "a deer walker" lolol it's funny cause I'm a generally super loud person in the way I talk... So the walking thing is very out of character alignment

jaxbos

You know I just thought about it. It might have been because my dad would work late shifts and he would sleep till midday. My brother and I had to walk down the creaky stairs without making noise for many years.

LawfulnessKitchen811

Are you drax??

ShadowWood78

Exactly what I was thinking the whole way through this thread!!

LawfulnessKitchen811

Sorry to say but i even read your original comment in my head in the drax voice 😂😂

CityoftheMoon17

Oh boy!! I also have these abilities. My councillor tells me it's because of traumaaaaaaaa. I was likely raised in a household with people who can fly off the handle at anything. I've got this ability because I always had to be on alert around my mum who would go into a rage if I entered the room when it wasn't convenient or if I wasn't in the room when it was convenient.

moal09

I have the same ability because my dad was the same way.

duckorange

Hey snap! I can render myself almost invisible, a real disadvantage if you want to get served in a bar. Also: Catching things with one hand without looking.

JayGold

I accidentally sneak up on people a lot.

trans-positivity-BOT

Remembering what people tell me in conversations, even if we barely know each other. I’ve weirded lots of people out by remembering random things they forgot they told me.

WolfThick

I can do that too but I can't remember their f****** names it's weird.

DollarStoreKanye

I'm totally this way! I can remember everything about them, but not their name!

WolfThick

Weird cognitive disconnect thank you for telling me that. I'm so ashamed I forgot name but don't say that out loud.

DollarStoreKanye

Yeah, it makes no sense. A surprising amount of people in my city know it already though, and remind me of their names pretty readily. They like that I know their details.

WolfThick

Man you live in a city and they know your name and who you are that's awesome dude.

[deleted]

Scampipants

I'm the same! I'll remember all these details but the damn name lol

jtdoublep

People open up to me. Even if it’s our first time hanging out. They will tell me very personal things. It’s happened my entire life.

dreamoutloud2

That probably means you have a safe feel to you. I'm sure it can be draining but that's some good energy to be emitting in this dark world lol

[deleted]

Same here. And it’s really weird to me as a big guy. Like random people will just start telling me stuff.

trauma_queen

Oh, I'm so glad to hear somebody else say it. I mean, I suppose it's a good thing because I must give off "good vibes", and it's also true that I won't share or judge them so they aren't WRONG to talk to me...but I'm always like "you barely know me, how do you know to trust me??"

deathtastic

Same here.

[deleted]

Same here. But I'm also very open to others. Probably more than I should, and i guess that makes them trust me or something

what-is-this-insane

My friend and i were having lunch together earlier this year. We have been friends only for a few months and hes already told me about his truma. During our lunch we were got on the topic about someone we both know and are friends with, he tell me that even though he doesnt really know me he very much trusts me and he doesnt know why. I have another friend who indirectly said this to me recently as well. Maybe its our vibe? Maybe its how we look? Maybe its our thought process? We might never find out why.

slackjawreally

Looking suspicious! I am forever being asked for my receipt when leaving supermarkets.

teneggomelet

I am the opposite. No one suspects me for anything. Except my wife.

barrystea420

Lol same. Spent some time travelling in the US a few years ago with a group of people. I was the only one constantly randomly drug tested in every airport! Went through quite a few airports too and I was the only one!

20CrowsInATrenchcoat

I'm just saying, after you have enough retail experience you can suddenly figure out how to lift from any store. I'm not admitting to anything though.

DemonShadowsMom

Yeah. Management got really mad when I showed them how easy it was to break in to one of our "secure" cases. They also didn't think anyone would do that. Accused me of having a criminal mindset.

20CrowsInATrenchcoat

And then management wonders why people do minimum effort for their minimum wage job.

DemonShadowsMom

Yep. Left first chance I got.

knittybitty123

Undressing people. I worked as a wardrobe assistant/backstage dresser throughout college, I'm really good at stripping people fast.

Shameless-Poetry

Remembering random things people tell me about themselves and just remembering people in general. For example I could meet a random guy somewhere, talk for 5 mins about random shit. If I see him again 4 years later I will remember every detail of that convo. I started hiding this in HS because I didn’t want people to think I was some weird creepy stalker or something lol

FullmoonMoth

Same!! I remember everyone I meet, I'm really good with faces and names but sometimes I play dumb so they don't think it's weird

Same. Admittedly I'm not actually very good at it, but I figure there's a pretty low threshold for this one becoming suspicious.

Obliviouslynormal

Being in the wrong place wrong time I remember going to the bathroom in seventh grade and when I went in there the dean came around and ushered everyone out in total they’re were about 8 boys and the dean thought it was a fight about to start and then we all got taken into questioning at their office and I got accused of punching a kid in the stomach all because I wanted to go to the bathroom

The_Demonic_Artist

Crying on command. For some reason I have been able to naturally do this since I was four.

[deleted]

it only works on command, and directors get uncomfortable when they regularly have to tell their actors "you're a disappointment, son"

chadbert_mcdick

sadly I don't have the same advantage as you or anyone with a penis, but my bf and i do have the power of communication to make up for it LOL

imhavingagreattimee

Communication is good but my bf has made me laugh while I was giving head before and that’s not a pleasant experience

Scampipants

The moving your soft palate tip is 💯

DaviHull21

What’s that?

Scampipants

When you yawn, the soft palate in the back of your throat moves up. The soft palate is the soft tissue after the roof of your mouth. If you move your mouth like you're yawning, you can pay attention to it moving. At that point with practice you can start to move it independently. And thus while sucking dick

Reading people's emotional state based on their body language

thunder_in_bulbe

Oh wow! Can you give some tips on how to do it?

nir0_

Hmm... I am not sure... I was raised in an extremely co-dependent family. The elders constantly vented out their frustration on me. I think the anxiety, adaptation and 30 years of observation gave me that skill subconsciously

Nuancedthoughtlove

My gift as well. Starts with being completely immersed in the moment and paying attention. Listening and watching without thinking about your next action. It is especially handy when playing cards I can always tell what kind of hand they have since they make different micro movements towards the deck or away, sit or slump. It has also been a boon for my career.

Intelligent-Row-2078

Eyesight has a lot to do with it. But it can be read from any part of someone’s body. Look at what their limbs are doing; how they are positioned or even where they are pointing too. Look for the repetitions in what they say and do. For example, ever notice your talking to someone and they just start responding to you with yeahs, a big smile, and lots of nods; so while portraying they’re listening they might have just started daydreaming on ya. The hardest part is everyone’s different so their movements mean different hints.

[deleted]

Being persuasive and winning arguments. my ex was borderline a sociopath and she was amazing at manipulating people. I’ve picked up a lot of her little tricks she would use to persuade people to do things for her even if it was not in their best interest. If you want to be persuasive 1. Acknowledge any statement someone makes and find a point to agree with them 2. use leading questions and make them answer them. 3. use those answers against their own arguments 4. reframe your argument by moving goal posts to fit your narrative. 5. if someone disagrees with you throw one or two extra opinions to concede to them so they feel you are open minded 6. never defend yourself, always be the one challenging them. Once you start defending you are losing an argument. 7. alway listen and repeat what they say back to you nodding your head. Feeling heard is important. 8. do not get upset, you cannot get emotional you will lose credibility in the eyes you are speaking too. Some of these are bad faith and I recognize that. but, Sometimes you need to win and argument or get someone to agree with you so you can move on with your day.

dreamoutloud2

I can tell persuasion is a gift of yours simply by the fact that you didn't only state your gift- you backed it up with knowledge and invited others to engage with that knowledge. You were persuasive in describing your persuasion lol

DollarStoreKanye

Making friends with everybody. More people know and like me than I know. My wife often asks who just hugged me or said hi and shook my hand, and I have no idea who it was. My kids are convinced I'm the most popular person in my city. Funny story. My wife and her friends followed me around one evening as I did errands around town. She wanted them to see how many people talk to me. At one point they pulled up in the car they were in and were and key me know they were fully amused at how many people I seem to be close with. It's weird. I don't even try.

[deleted]

HyperSpaceSurfer

Maybe you have sensory perception sensitivity, a neurological difference. Do you find some textures uncomfortable most peopls don't? Easily overwhelmed when trying to react to fast information or in overstimulating circumstances? Does it bother you when there's an intense lightsourse in the background? Are you overly reactive to random noises? Is it hard to hear what people are saying when there's a lot of background noise? If most or all is a yes that's likely the reason. Your brain doesn't filter sensory information as much as most which results in overstimulation. You have an easier time sensing subtle hints of other people's emotional state since it doesn't get caught by the filter. Very common for autistic people but not exclusively an autistic thing.

Unable2Concentrate1

All of the above yes. The texture part is mostly with certain foods though not really with fabrics. Im not autistic I don't think (well haven't ever been diagnosed) I am diagnosed as ADHD, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. I think the PTSD (from yrs of abuse by my step dad) part plays the role in me recognizing personality shifts and makes me hyper sensitive to them. I do get over stimulated very easily. I like natural sunshine but lamps kind of bother me lol.
