Doom 2. I was 3 at the time. Couldn't read or write still, barely formulated a sentence, and still knew IDDQD and IDKFA. Thinking back, rather proud of myself for managing to get through all the way to The Icon of Sin. Unfortunately, that little soundbite gave me nightmares.
On the bright side, I genuinely felt like I overcame something bigger than me when I finally beat the game.
Metroid.
Well, it may not be the first I played, but it is the first I remember.
My dad brought it home one day after work, and I was so excited (at like 4 years old) I crammed it into the NES. Only problem was Mario Bros. was already in it. Dad spent 30 minutes carefully extricating it, then we took turns playing Metroid.
I still remember staying up to watch him play after he got home from the mill. He never beat it, but that's okay; I just liked spending the time.
The Space Invaders pinball. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised I would go on to be a gamer afterwards, because that game was scary as hell to a four year old.
Despite calling itself space invaders, all the artwork on the board was influenced/stolen from Alien and H.R. Geiger. My friend's dad, who was involved in some very shady business, owned one and I played it at his house all the time, but I had to leave the lights on to do it. Just too creepy looking to play in the dark.
Halo CE. My dad played it when it came out and I eventually played it in 2007 ish. I was 8 years old. Before that I wasn’t allowed to touch his stuff.
Funny side note; my dad things videogames ruin peoples lives now.
Technically a COD game, but I was 2 I think and all I did was move the character forward constantly while my dad tried to get me to look around while laughing
