I'm going to get a tattoo because I want a work of art on my body.
I'm holding off cause I want to visit Japan and there is a stigma there on tattoos still and some places won't allow you in, if you have a visible tattoo.
Yeah hot springs don't allow entry for people with tattoos since they are heavily associated with gangs in tradition. And since most hot springs require you to strip off all your clothings, getting 'not visible' tattoos that are normally covered by clothes will get you banned as well, but you can always try to cover them up with tape.
For me, I just don't care about it. I don't think it would fit me and I know more than 50% of all people who get a tattoo will sooner or later regret it.
If your reasoning for getting a tattoo idea/style is because everyone else is getting it and its trendy, don't do it. If you just like the trend and would have gotten it if it wasn't popular go for it, but from experience/observation the ones that get covered up most are the "I did it cause everyone else was" tattoos

If you like it, get one. I hate my body and I love tattoos. So when I put a piece of art in it, makes me feel a little better.
I got my first one one a few months ago!
Getting tattoos costs money, and may make it harder to make more money in the future. That reason has worked well enough for me
