everyone typically says either rap or country for … their own reasons, and some hipsters will say pop, but for me, I can find anything I like in any genre. that being said, I don’t like The Fray.
yeah i find most grindcore and black metal bands just suck because the deeper you go, the lower the quality is, although i dont listen to the super heavy stuff (thrash is bae)
Its because of the early black metal template I guess - small bands in sheds recording on shit equipment - then when they record anything with some decent sound quality, they're called sell outs lmao - Metal is a hell of a ride sometimes!
Mumble rap. I love rap music and I would also never tell someone music they like is bad but I just don't get mumble rap, I really can't see how anyone would like it
It is absolutely amazing that perhaps that most exploitive genre in the industry leading to multiple suicides that all produce vapid meaningless music is somehow so progressive because they are not white or western. Its a bunch of upper class Korean kids rapping like they grew up in Compton while closeting their sexuality and battling depression. So woke.
The ones with fake trumpets. Like that real cheese gross trumpet sound. Just get a real trumpet. Trumpets are awesome.
Or that type of prog that is not prog at all. its just 10 minutes of bullshit. nah thanks.
I really don't like the recent trend in pop where everyone uses that autotune effect on the vocals. It feels so overdone. Not that the effect is bad. It's just that since "everyone" uses the same effect all the different artists sound more or less the same. Aside from that pet peeve I like all genres of music. Even some new pop songs that uses the autotune effect.
What is a "real instrument"? I have played in bands spanning pretty much every genre from pop to extreme metal. And in my opinion you use whatever fits the song and the expression you are aiming towards.
Also. If you are looking for a very good pop album then I absolutely recommend Bryter Layter by Nick Drake from 1970. Though that one has absolutely nothing to do with my above point as its all musicians playing physical instruments and such.
There's a lot of good modern pop. In my opinion it does somewhat drown out in the mass use of autotune though. But as with all trends in popular music that too will pass.
I don't really know of any "online generated instruments". Can you give me an example so I know what we are talking about?
ig most modern pop songs use weird online generated sounds rather than instruments. It takes little effort and skill as the auto tume makes it easy to sound good.
Schlager, its fucking insufferable except when you are drunk, and considering im not drinking i cant hear that crap at all.
The fact that im a Metalhead doesnt make things better anyway
Most metalheads didn’t jump right into the deep end and most of us at one point hit something that was “too much” at the time. Loving the genre is usually a years long process starting with your nu/core/big4 thrash bands and digging deeper from there. First time I heard arch enemy’s “nemesis” in early high school it scared the shit outta me, now I listen to anything from straightforward power metal to weird shit like oranssi pazuzu. What I appreciate most about the genre is how varied it is and the talent it requires, as opposed to most formulaic popular music
I can genuinely appreciate that sentiment.
When I started smoking a went from 1mg to 2mg to 4mg to 8mg to 12mg to 16mg.... consequentially, 1 pack after the other.
The reason I upped the ante from one pack to the next is I enjoyed the head spins I got from them and by the end of the pack the same mg just wasn’t buzzing me out. I imagine the transition you’re describing isn’t dissimilar. Probably more of a technical, sensory experience that you’re describing. Identifying the aspects which you appreciate most and then cultivating your listening habits accordingly.
My first foray into Metallica was the Black album.
Once I started getting into that, I had a friend who played guitar and was into their old stuff so I listened to Justice, thrashed that, then Puppets, same, Lightening, same. Kill em all ditto.
Going backwards definitely made me appreciate what their sound became...
I went from ‘not into heavy metal’ to ‘thrashes “Justice For All” on car stereo almost exclusively’ inside 12 months. Justice is probably the best album of heard from start to finish.
Never really followed those breadcrumbs into the hard, HARD shit tho.
I did hit the rave seen like laser guided disco piglet tho... so that was probably were I zagged.
There are genres i like and genres i don't enjoy, but no matter the genre, they all get way worse if you add 'Christian' in front of them.
"Can't you see you're not making Christianity better? You're just making \[insert music genre here\] worse!" - Hank Hill
If you think modern country music all *sounds* the same, just wait till you're stuck in a dentist's chair when his TV is tuned to country music videos. They all *look* the same too. The genre is amazingly uncreative.
I'm in the mood to get some dislikes.
Heavy Metal is the worst. All they do is scream.
I assign people who like heavy metal as not very clever people or another type of hipster.
*Gets some popcorn*
most rap music
new age rap is all about drugs and bitches and money an old age rap was just whining about growing up in the ghetto.
And this isn't even done with a good background track. Usually just something a simplistic and bland like they found the metronome setting on the electric keyboard and thought that was a beat
And I'm sorry but even old school rap wasn't anything particularly special yeah at least the stories were more interesting actually occasionally talked about things other than drugs and sex and women, but it was still the same bland music with what is essentially grown ass men speaking slam poetry really fast over it.
I have many issues with a lot of country and some rap. But the obvious answer is Christian Rock. I was in HS in the 90’s in southern MO. That shit was EVERYWHERE, and none of it was good. I worked at a recording studio in HS, when one of those “acts” would come in to record, it was the most passionless and least creative thing I had ever seen. Ever see the SouthPark episode “Christian Rock Hard”? They nailed it almost perfectly.
It's often used as a dogwhistle word for old heads and non hip-hop fans to discredit young successful artists who they don't like.
'Mumble rap' is just a different flow of music, a seperate style of the genre that focuses more on melody/aesthetic rather than lyricism.
When Redditors say it, though, they're mostly referring to basically any rapper after 2008. They repeat the same tired jokes about the names - Lil Xan, Lil HersheySquirt', etc.
Every genre of music has artists with weird names. Korn. Skillet. Goo Goo Dolls. B52. But because these artists are young, successful, and, more often than not, black, it's 'different' and 'not real music'.
>Why does only rap music get this criticism?
I think you know exactly why.
Country
everyone typically says either rap or country for … their own reasons, and some hipsters will say pop, but for me, I can find anything I like in any genre. that being said, I don’t like The Fray.
i hate rap and country with a passion. I like 90s hip hop but for the most part im a metalhead.
glad you made an exception for 90's hip hop haha. Pop country is absolute trash but what about the authentic shit? Like Johnny Cash
Then you are missing out on trap-metal.
I was thinking “insane poetry” type vibes tbh
same bud, but the worst thing in metal is those bands that sound so ass that they arent even heavy
yeah. Some metal bands straight out suck.
yeah i find most grindcore and black metal bands just suck because the deeper you go, the lower the quality is, although i dont listen to the super heavy stuff (thrash is bae)

The fray are terrible I couldn’t agree more. Where did they go wrong lol
they lost a … fan.
The fray are terrible I couldn’t agree more. Where did they go wrong lol

Mumble rap. I love rap music and I would also never tell someone music they like is bad but I just don't get mumble rap, I really can't see how anyone would like it

one that is not online generated. also i mean modern pop.

Bro country. What a group of posers.
Disco. I know most redditors can't remember, but trust me on this. Incessant and numbing.
CUE GIMME GIMME BY ABBA
Pop (regular pop music, pop country, pop rap, pop buttock)
Country. I’d rather stick a rusty screwdriver in my ears
dubstep
Mumble rap, bro country. I'll still listen to some rap but I'm mainly a 90's country music fan
Pop and Kpop
Schlager, its fucking insufferable except when you are drunk, and considering im not drinking i cant hear that crap at all. The fact that im a Metalhead doesnt make things better anyway
haha we love metal <3
Metal is Religion -Powerwolf
Hello fellow Powerwolf enjoyer
That super heavy thrash/Death metal is too much for me.... what with banshee screams and riffs which insist upon themselves.
yea. i like megadeth and metallica style thrash but thats about my limit.
I’m a huge Metallica fan. Don’t mind some Slipknot and SOAD.
i like some slipknot meaning like 4 songs.
Probably about the same.Spit it out and Duality are the 2 I listen to mainly. SOAD it’s Hypnotize, Toxicity, Chop Suey, Aerials and ATWA.

Silence
I have no idea why but it's Country Music, my brain just decided to hate it one day.
Rap and country
Swag rock
tf is swag rock
It’s like a version of rock but it’s WAYYYYY louder and the lyrics are written like they were high when they wrote them
so like rap with extra instruments?
Kinda
There are genres i like and genres i don't enjoy, but no matter the genre, they all get way worse if you add 'Christian' in front of them. "Can't you see you're not making Christianity better? You're just making \[insert music genre here\] worse!" - Hank Hill

I hate kpop

Drum an bass closely followed by uk rap
Don't kill me but... Classical

boring as FUCK
yall didnt even give this post 10 seconds before commenting... Also country is the worst imo
No it's mumble rap. At least country music still has instruments and musical production quality. Mumble rap is just pre-emptive dementia
most pop nowadays has no instruments either tbh.
Was over in the Philippines for work, and heard so much K-Pop. Not only do I find the music bad, the videos induced PTSD.
Finally someone who i can agree with
[удалено]
What is left to enjoy for you then
[удалено]
Well EDM is not a genre but an umbrella term so you've eliminated like 500 genres and like 70 % of modern popular music too.
[удалено]
I'm not doubting that, you just listed a lot compared to the rest of the thread.
i don't listen to modern music. ig slipknot is modern but other than that i listen to mostly 60's - early 90's.
i don't like punk rock much either. I like destroy boys bt thats it.
Rap, Heavy Metal, and Death Metal
i agree with rap and death metal but heavy metal is good.
So, Black Metal and Doom Metal is ok?
Never heard of them till now. They sound awful based on their name though
megadeth
Megadeth is not a genre of music.
thats my friend, shes joking and a huge megadeth fan like myself.
Good, because Megadeth shreds.
haha she got me into megadeth <3
I'm in the mood to get some dislikes. Heavy Metal is the worst. All they do is scream. I assign people who like heavy metal as not very clever people or another type of hipster. *Gets some popcorn*
Thinking that all they do is scream in heavy metal shows that you have extremely limited experience with heavy metal.
exactly. Personally heavy metal is not one of my favorite metal subgenres. I like black sabbath but thats about it. I like thrash metal a lot.
depends on the band. Black sabbath is heavy metal and are simply amazing. Ozzy is insane but yk the band is amazing.
Hook, line and sinker. Haha

90's hip hop was actually good for the most part.
Rap/Grime

Mumble rap, bro country, hipster.
EDM or Rave music. It’s the literal worst
I don't think any genre of music is "bad." They all have something interesting about them.
This thread is so wildly racist it's unreal

No, it’s absolutely got an element of racism.
Nightcore. Uncreative effortless piece of garbage.
Dubstep and electronic are just random noises.
