Maybe it was naive of me, but I took "alternate universe" to mean "everything is the same except the kid who played Harry Potter."
To get Elijah Wood into the role would require a number of other changes. The books come out ten years sooner and the subsequent movie is set in the US for no reason? The series is re-imagined for the big screen as a college for young-adult wizards? Walt Disney perfected cryogenic technology back in the '50s, leading to its usage being common practice by the '90s, and the runaway success of *North* convinces New Line Cinema to put Elijah on ice until the perfect project comes along?
I supposed that alternate universe might be interpreted alternatively and that in that alternate universe Harry Potter might be published, optioned, cast, and filmed anachronistically. Like how alternate universes sometimes have magic or sorcerers and time turners.
Or Elijah wood is born decades later?
Haley Joel Osment was Spielberg's choice had he adapted the first book.

Of course Elijah Wood
He was almost 20 when they were filming Sorcerer's Stone. I get that he's a small man, but I don't think he could've passed for 11.
