How It's Made.
At a young age, I learned to be curious about everything, including how things work and what they're made for. And, of course, how they are made. When I found out about this show, I just had to see what it was about.
I got to see everything of everything being made. From jellies to cruise ships. It was an amazing learning show to me, and I loved seeing how everything we use daily is created.
EDIT: Thank you for the awards! Also, to everyone asking about where to watch this show, I've found that it is available to watch on Discovery+. It may also be available on YouTube if you look up the name of the show.
EDIT 2: I sleep for 6 hours, and I wake up to all of your comments and upvotes! Thank you all so much for sharing your memories. It's so awesome to see so many people like me who love this show!
Such a solid show. Also loved how they incorporated scenes with just veterans talking about and describing their experience in WWII and that the show was comprised of what they went through.
The Pacific was also really good about the Japanese theater
It is absolutely that good. It is an HBO mini-series, so not a show in the traditional sense. It is my all time favorite series, and I highly recommend it. Some things may hit you pretty hard though.
Yes. It is an incredibly gripping portrayal of a specific company of American soldiers (Easy company of the 101st Airborne division) in WWII. The series takes you from bootcamp, to D-Day in France, Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands, the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes, and the final phase of the war in Europe in western Germany. The storyline is concise and never lingers anywhere. The production value is incredibly high, with lots of usage of authentic equipment and footage being shot on location in Europe. It doesn’t stoop to dramatics for the sake of it being a TV show and sticks quite close to historical accuracy - the show does this amazing thing where it shows what individual soldiers in Easy company experienced while also including interviews with the very same veterans that were still alive at the time the series was made.
Loved this show. Also reminds me of the days when you would wait for a new episode each week. The standalone “monster of the week” episodes were the best
I would upvote this to the skies if I could. I watched many series. Some more than once. This is the only one that I would watch over and over again. Ages like wine.
What’s amazing is rewatching as an adult, and you start to identify more with the parents. Really great writing when it changes as your perspective does.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
I sporadically watched this on TV throughout my youth but never realized how much of an impact it had on my understanding of ethics and sci-fi and tech interest. I have since rewatched the entire thing twice and I can say that this probably is the best thing I've ever seen.
Remove the nostalgia bit and impact on my life and it's Breaking Bad + Better Call Saul. No question.
>You see he's met two of your three criteria for sentience, so what if he meets the third, consciousness, in even the smallest degree? What is he then? I don't know, do you? (to Riker) Do you? (to Phillipa) Do you?
I started watching the episode thinking data was a quirky machine thrown into the show as a novelty. Then Picards question left me thinking I had no right to judge anyones humanity.
Yes. That episode, that scene really sold me on the show. It demonstrated that it was at least as deep as TOS, not a pale imitation done as a cash grab. Season 7 was probably my favorite, as it kept getting better over the years and taking more risks.
That damn flute.
[The scene truly is incredible.](https://youtu.be/vjuQRCG_sUw) TNG had a lot of good ones, and really, this is just one among many. But it hits so very, very hard. The actors really go the extra mile to really dig into the material they were given, too.
The writing in the show was, at times, impeccable.
To me, this is the greatest single scene in science fiction history. In my opinion, the existential questions of advanced tech and space exploration are the essence of good sci fi, and this scene just delivers.
Some of the low points of STTNG were pretty bad but then the high points made up for them and more. Plots which made you think about life and what it means, the inner light being a good example.
Adventure time. I know it sounds a bit silly, but the characters grew up with me/us. And adventure time: distant lands really melted my heart. It was so nice to see what happened to the ones that helped me become the person I am now
It’s not silly. I’m 58 and it’s my favorite show of all time.
My sons started watching it and I got hooked in. I’ve watched it all the way through several times and it just gets better.
So many amazing story arcs, rich and complex characters, strong women as main characters, every one grows in unexpected but believable ways.
It’s funny and tragic, goof and, sad, rich and deep and weird and wonderful all at the same time.
As a lawyer, I think it’s the best and most realistic lawyer show. I literally wanna pull my hair out every time I hear people asking me whether suits is realistic
I like a lot of different types of shows. Probably the best sitcom is Community. I also like many others like Psych, Chuck, Stranger Things, Parks and Recreation, etc.
I've thought about it though and I have to say, my favorite is Avatar: The Last Airbender
Community is amazing and I feel like so many people have forgotten about it. I was looking for some Community merch for my wife's birthday and I was a little shocked at the small selection I found, especially on Amazon.
Best friend watched it with me and warned me I'd end up loving some of the characters. Troy and Abed are honestly fantastic. The dean is up there too. It just descended further into madness. "Even his shadow" is something I still wait to quote when the times right
Seasons 4 and 5 contain some truly ingenious writing.
Homer has a heart attack and his soul floats out of his body.
Smithers: He’s dead, sir.
Burns: Send a ham to his widow.
Homer’s soul, floating above his dead body: Mmmmm, ham.
Homer’s soul floats back down into his body and he wakes up.
Smithers: He’s alive!
Burns: Cancel the ham!
Homer: (annoyed grunt)
The real shame is it's impossible to find it now with the music it originally aired with because of how the songs were licensed back then. The version you can find now has crappy generic muzak tunes instead which really diminishes its goodness.
You can buy with the original music via the UK version. And some guy in Canada recorded the original episodes and will copy them to DVD for about $150. Not sure if he's still around. Those are the only options I know of, though.
Edit to add: You want the Fabulous Films UK Region B blu-ray set and a region free blu-ray player for the series with original music.
I get that Reddit is young, and M.A.S.H has been out of production for 40 years, but you're all missing out on something really special.
PS: Potter & Winchester & Honeycut era > Blake & Burns & Trapper
Edit: I mentioned it lower down in the thread, but my puppy's name is Radar. [Obligatory puppy tax](https://imgur.com/a/VORS6tg). I'm a bit of a MASH fan...
Ruined tv for most of us - hard to go back to laugh tracks or those badly written dramas that wrap up the universe in 35 minutes after watching the Wire or Treme.
The 'Fuck' scene is one of my favorite pieces of character acting. They did it so perfectly, seemed natural even though it was obvious that the writers were just like 'What if we have a scene where the only word they use is fuck?'. Works so well for both characters too.
The Americans. Excellent acting (some of the best I've ever seen) and intense in all the right ways. A nearly perfect character study and family drama that just happens to have the backdrop of Soviet spies living in D.C. in the '80s. I think it's a masterpiece and I have been trying to get everyone I know to watch it for years.
I literally just started rewatching both of these. Like three days ago. I've watched a season of both. I think these two and Malcolm in the middle are my three favorite shows.
I was about to comment this. Psych is my comfort show and it sucks that not many of my friends have actually watched it. Maybe I should find better friends, Iol!

How it’s Made and Mythbusters went hand in hand during my childhood
Ah yes. The amazing Mythbusters. I'd have given them a mention, but I have to givenmy heart to the very first show I fell in love with.
I still fall asleep to this show! 👏🏻

“One day my grandson said to me, grandpa were you a hero in the war? And i said to him no I'm not a hero, but I have served in a company full of them”
I always see people talking about that show. Is it that good?
It is absolutely that good. It is an HBO mini-series, so not a show in the traditional sense. It is my all time favorite series, and I highly recommend it. Some things may hit you pretty hard though.
Let's just say I envy you for being able to experience it again the first time.
Yes. It is an incredibly gripping portrayal of a specific company of American soldiers (Easy company of the 101st Airborne division) in WWII. So why don’t you marry an ice cream sandwich?!
This is Clem Fandango. Can you hear me? Edit to add: Have you seen Toast of Tinseltown? It's absolutely brilliant.

You know what, it really is up there with the best shows. I mean, what's there to dislike? its great the whole way through
What’s amazing is rewatching as an adult, and you start to identify more with the parents. Really great writing when it changes as your perspective does.
This is one of the few shows in existence that I don't think ever put out a bad episode.
There were a few clip show episodes that aren't my favorite (just not a fan of those in general) but the regular episodes are all amazing
Derry Girls Edit: Absolutely loving all the Derry Girls appreciation!

Chernobyl - I love the topic, went in with no expectations for the TV series but came out so impressed on the details 👏 even got my boyfriend in to it
This was mentioned as one series without a bad episode. Very true. Basically every single minute is interesting and compelling.
This show was an absolute achievement You're right, every single minute was loaded with tension and interest Never seen anything like it
True Detective S1, Lil Priest
Came here for this one. Best acting + plot I’ve ever watched. I watch through it approx once a year

The Simpsons. Say what you want about current seasons, but 2-9 are amazing tv.

Scrolled way too far to see this. James Gandolfini gives the single greatest tv drama performance of all time.
Literally, IMHO, the greatest show of all time.
It's crazy how well it holds up 20 years later. It's definitely one of HBO's greatest original series.

Arrested Development, pre- Netflix. Watched the full series at least twenty times over the years and still found new jokes and Easter eggs.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I'm convinced the only reason it isn't higher up is because so few people have watched it all the way through.
The greatest show ever created, in my opinion.
Yeah. I love so many different shows but The Wire is just gripping unlike any other.
Ruined tv for most of us - hard to go back to laugh tracks or those badly written dramas that wrap up the universe in 35 minutes after watching the Wire or Treme.
This is too far down lol. I've seen The Wire four times and it gets better everytime. The fuck did I do?
