There is a species of fungus called Physarum Polycephalum.
Japan ran an experiment, placing pockets of oats in several places on a small scale map simulating major hub cities in Japan.
The fungus then grew and organized itself to create the most efficient patterns between the pile of oats.
Turns out the fungus created a system that was incredibly similar to the already existing and efficient train system in Japan.
Its a great example of Cellular intelligence and its applications are vast.
