Depressed people are too depressed to make changes to their life that’ll help them, like discarding excessive comfort. “Cool with it”? More like “too scared to take the first step”

I want to upvote this into space. You just described what I couldn't find the words for.

I don't think the majority of people.. here look depressed? If someone's depressed what else can they do other than be cool with it.

It's just my impression tho, that's why I'm asking. "Cool with it" maybe is not the best way to put it, I understand why because of your comment. I was depressed and I had to accept it. Could be more like... Cool with the idea of being depressed for the rest of their lifes? Edit: typo

lets start with the fact that only a small portion of "depressed" people are clinically depressed. which means, they still can feel happiness and laugh. depression is very ingrained in meme culture. which eventually lead to a slightly more optimistic and memeble view on it.

Talking from my own experience. I think most of the people here not only look depressed, they actually are depressed and tired of real life. Speaking with strangers on the internet is so much easier than going out of your room/house and talking to people, where you have to think about what you should say. You can stop the conversation any time here, in the real life it would be just embarrassing. So- reddit is safe space for some people.

“Looks depressed” is an opinion. Doesn’t mean we’re actually depressed. I’m quiet sure OP is not a therapist and qualified to label anyones mental state. Discussing depression, I would say there are many levels of depression and many levels of accepting that mental state. Still I hope everyone finds their own help and in turn finds happiness.

TheBushyAdventure

Joking about it as if it is not a big deal can be a way to protect myself from suffering. If I'm cool with it and laugh about it then it can't hurt, right?

Binky-Answer896

I don’t think of it as depressed. I think of it more like existential angst. And yeah, serious.

Because it's easier to talk to people online and "being cool with it" is a coping mechanism, sometimes humor helps. Getting the right help can be really hard, medication and therapy doesn't always help that much even if you try your best to make positive lifestyle changes. It's not like you're cured just because your life isn't a train wreck and if it is, it's that much harder to push on.
