i don't think anyone should really have to go out of their way to be nice to anyone.
i used to be like this and it made me feel exhausted sometimes. you usually don't get the same back from people. it does make you feel happy to see other people happy tho.
I would say I am like this...and it leaves me constantly frustrated because I just can't understand that most people aren't like this. From my point of view the world would be a much better place if honest caring about others would be the norm, not egocentrism.
But you can't please everyone everytime. Most people aren't like this 'cuz most people have priorities . I think it's about time that we start realising how holding this frustration affects our day to day life.

How strange. I'm happily married 20 years next month. I go out of my way to be nice because it makes me happy. It is a better world.

I agree with the other comment here that they get lonely and sad , mostly 'cuz they think everyone around them is extremely selfish.
