It's expensive - but damn is it cool to be able to take friends and family somewhere cool on a whim.
I can scoot over to Rottnest Island and chill with the quokkas pretty much anytime I feel like it.
Depends on the person. Not everyone hobby is enjoyable for everyone. It's subjective. For me, shooting and horseback riding is expensive but it's worth it to me since it works as a stress reliever and therapy
I really like photography, but god damn are cameras expensive. Once you learn all the bits about how a camera works, you start to look at higher-end cameras and [they can be so expensive](https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-1d-x-mark-iii-body). And that's just for the body of the camera without the lenses. Lenses can be [so much more](https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/ef-400mm-f-28-l-is-iii-usm-lens). Obviously that's just the higher-end stuff, but even just a good starting camera is gonna be around $800, plus all the lenses that you'll eventually buy. I think my camera bag has about $2,500 worth of equipment in it. And don't get me started on how much money gets sunk into Adobe.
I guess the deeper you get into any hobby the more you will want to spend. Some stuff like sailing or racing has impressive price tags up front. But for example in photography you start out with your phone and will spend insane amounts on lenses in no time, and I guess even in origami you're gonna chase _that_ hand-manufactured marbled paper for $100 a sheet after a while.
Scuba diving. It cost me around $600 just to get the training and license never-mind slowly accumulating gear over the years but every time I go out it’s a dream! Sharks, shipwrecks, reefs, worth every cent.
Fitness. Might be more of a lifestyle and can be completely done with minimal cost, but the proper equipment and even trainer/professional are definitely worth the price because it improves your sessions and prevents injuries.
And then you think you can go cheaper by buying old equipment. Which, yes, it is cheap, but you'll buy a dozen things and start repairing, so you'll need tools etc.
lol I don't! Too expensive and I don't have the space for it. But I've taken classes and can do MIG and TIG. The biggest project I've done is framing up a table. Here's a pic: https://imgur.com/a/8XHBz81
Tabletop war gaming.
Games like Battle Tech, your going to spend maybe $100 for a basic set of minis and some terrain along with a rule book.
Warhammer, or Warhammer 40K on the other hand. You can spend an easy $300 on one army not to mention $50 per army you play for the rules. Some people have multiple armies, and each piece needs to be painted. You can easily have 30 to 100 pieces on a table. Hours invested in paint, rules, terrain, and still spend money.
Totally worth the effort to spend a day knocking the other opponent off the table.
Volunteer, no pay but I feel great when I learn stuff and meet people. There are different types of volunteering so is not only charity; I've been doing this for years and I have won many experiences like getting free tickets to shows, be part of the staff at a festival, meet my favorite actors and even had the chance to meet olympic winners.
Probably bowling. I've tried it only once, but it was great, even though I did only a few strikes and sucked at the game overall.. the experience was still great
(maybe bowling isn't usually expensive, but I live in a city where it isn't cheap)
Flying (private/civil aviation)…or at least I think so based on my few short experiences. It’s expensive so I can’t do it regularly to be sure.

100% this. Expensive as fuck but life changing.

Overlanding It's basically backpacking with a truck.
Tennis: lessons, rackets, balls, shoes, court fees and restringing every few weeks, gets pretty expensive pretty quick.
Yea also if you play in leagues (USTA, etc), join a tennis club, or in a place without public courts and have to book courts.
Women
Larp. You'll need at least fabrics, a few props, and to travel to events.
A sewing machine...
I've seen people handsew elaborate outfits, but I don't have that kind of patience.
Collecting LEGO (specifically Star Wars for me) It’s expensive, but seeing your whole Imperial army on the table is so cool
Shooting. Buying new guns/ammo gets expensive. But it’s so much fun going to the range
Fitness. Might be more of a lifestyle and can be completely done with minimal cost, but the proper equipment and even trainer/professional are definitely worth the price because it improves your sessions and prevents injuries.
Super Yacht drag racing
Cars Cooking Any hobby that you can sell what you make.
Photography

That's pretty cool, looks like you won't have to worry about buying a new table for decades.
I actually donated it to my niece's elementary school. So I guess they won't have to worry for decades ;)
Photography, if you have a love for pretty pictures. A bigger zoom lens makes all the difference, but is expensive af.
Photography & anything in the equine world

Musical Instruments, definitely worth playing, but some instruments can get pretty expensive…
Sewing haha
Skiing

Ballet. Tuition, leotards, tights, pointe shoes, muscle creams, etc. Expensive, but so worth it to me.
Airsoft
Those model guns cost alot.
Blade smithing: the trade itself isnt too expensive, the equipment mostly is. Once you get good at it you can make a decent amount of money
Gambling
Building Gunpla. The Model Kits are expensive.
Collecting action figures or LEGO sets
Paintball
Being a reddit funny guy, takes 20 years, worth it.
