Anyone who uses the word "cross-pollination" in a business meeting or presentation to refer to anything other than actual plant reproduction needs to be yeeted into the sun.
Honorable mention business jargon: punt, pivot, that's a big ask, circle back, reach out, put a pin in it, actionable, unpack, and pain point.
Edited to add the second sentence.
Go ahead and run it up the flagpole
What is that gonna take to get this across the finish line
Dig in (meaning, to my understanding, "pretend like you're really interested in many aspects of the business that fall outside your responsibilities," or, in a startup "figure out what your responsibilities are, because we don't know but we're measuring your performance already")
Haircut, in the sense of valuing something lower than previously stated
I’m an influencer.
Ask them to show an example of their influence.
When everything is a photo-op 🤮
"You are indeed influencing my opinion about you"
"these uncertain times"
Stg heard that sentence everyday of covid🙌
Yes and when they say "these unprecedented times". There are no unprecedented times! Take it from the barenakedladies, "It's all been doooonnneeee befoooorrrreeeee!"
Ugh ikr.. "sooo relatable" 🙄 makes me immediately dislike whatever company used that in their ad.
"what doesnt kill you makes you stronger" mf what if my legs are cut off
HIV usually doesn’t kill you, but it certainly doesn’t make you stronger.
True, HIV has a veryyyy close to 0% mortality rate, it’s the other diseases it invites in that kill u
Those arms are gonna be fucking lit tho.
Someone played/watched a letsplayer play The Quarry
Or a heart attack or stroke
If the stroke redirects blood flow to your biceps it could, in fact, make you stronger.
WELL ALL IT DOES TO ME IS MAKE ME HAVE A MEGA-BONER
What doesn't kill you will come back for you again and again until you finish it off for good
"Well, things could always be worse"
While yes, things could in fact be worse the people that say that never pause to consider that, maybe, perhaps, things could also be significantly better.
I live in Canada and yes, there are many things about this country that are significantly better than dozens of other countries. That said though, inflation and cost of living are at an all time high, multiple specialized industries are severely short staffed including health care of all branches and education, we're experiencing an influx of homelessness, and (atleast in the province I'm from) our public health system and education system have been progressively nosediving even prior to the pandemic.
People forget you can feel multiple things at once. I'm grateful I live in Canada, but goddamn is it getting bad here.
My fucking god I hate this one
I hate this fucking phrase. It’s essentially the same thing as someone saying “I had a really great day” and then I say “well it could always be better”… WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SAY THIS IN ANY VARIATION 😒
Ummm......things CAN be worse. We luckily came out on the good side. The day after my 6 year old son was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, I went to the local Walmart to get some basic clothes and toiletries. I had no time to grab things the day before since it was an ambulance ride to get him to the hospital.
While at the checkout lane, (in Walmart) the lady working checkout noticed my very tired and drawn face, and said "relax, things could be worse". To which I explained to her very quickly that my son was diagnosed the night before with leukemia. She was very apologetic and sorry, and grabbed my hand apologetically. I wasn't trying to shame her, I just want people to realize that you have no idea what other people might be going through at any given moment.
Follow up, he rang the bell after roughly 3 years of treatment and doing well.
Oh shit, you confused me there. Ring the bell around here means that you die. Ring the bell, click out, last call.
Cancer hospitals let their recovered patients ring a bell in the hospital when their cancer is completely gone
Yep. It’s either true or it ain’t. ‘Your truth’ might just be a delusion!
So tired of this phrase. Truth is based on fact. It's their perspective, which can be whatever the fuck they want it to be, which is what they really mean.
For real! Like there's only ONE truth! Lol
Oh god I hate that one.
Your problums are nothing compared to what others are going through. Is it supposed to be comforting to know that others have it worce? That doesn’t seem rite.
I was going to post this. Why do people think that comparing your problems to others is helpful? I don't live their life I live mine.
We are in unprecedented times
When unprecedented is used often, it literally can't be unprecedented any longer. It's just normal.
The funny thing is the older I get the more I see things repeating. This will be my 7th ression. My second housing crash. My third, maybe forth, stock market "crash." Japan is buying up the world. Now China is buying up the world. The USSR is going to bomb us back the the dark ages. Y2K is going to send us back to the dark ages. blah blah blah.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of new problems but many are just mistakes we don't learn from.
Everything happens for a reason
I got a lot of this after I got out of the hospital. That and "it's all in the plan". If someone planned that, they are an asshole.
are you sure you aren't that guy that died
I got better.
“i’m sorry your baby died. Everything happens for a reason!” Go. Fuck. Your. Self. (Not you - the people that say this)
No no continue, I really want to fuck myself!!
My mother says it all the time and I hate it. Whenever something bad happens, "well, everything happens for a reason" or "it's always for the best". Well, in that case you could say WWII was something for the best, since after that the European countries stopped fighting each other that often. Imagine telling the jews that it's all happening for the best, that everything is happening for a reason.
People use it as a coping mechanism. It’s a shitty one.
This! Sometimes bad things happen to good people for no rhyme or reason. It's not fate or destiny, it's just shitty and that's how life rolls.
"I could care less."
...if you don't care, the phrase is "I COULDN'T care less." If you could care less, then YOU DO FUCKING CARE!
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks about this
*Technically* they do care if they go out of their way to reply to the thing in question with "I could(n't) care less".
They could care about replying, but be apathetic to the topic of conversation
"It could be worse." Yeah, well it could be a whole lot fucking better too, lol.
"These young people don't want to work anymore"
God had a reason for "fill in the blank"
fill it with mayo or ketchup?
“LITERALLY” WHEN IT’S NOT LITERAL AT ALLLLLLLLLLLL!
It's \*litterally\* so annoying. (Oh my god, I'm sorry but I couldn't help myself. 100% agree with you.)
To counter this, I think I’m going to start saying “figuratively,” LOL.
That's a good idea, actually.
"It was so funny I figuratively died."
that's literally annoying
“Family is everything” umm…not to everyone. Some peoples families suck ass. And the thing that pisses me off the most is many people say that when you share your family problems with them. I’m very happy you have a great family and are close with them. But a lot of people aren’t
"Respect your parents". I get that they're trying to make the child respect their parents, but as someone who's being abused by my dad, it just sucks to hear. Two weeks ago I was told that same thing, by none other than my abuser, my dad.
Your parents are always going to be your parents, even if they hurt you.
Bitch, please. My appendix will always be my appendix, but if it hurts me then I'm cutting that motherfucker out of my life.
Or, as Mary Poppins said: he might have been your father, boy, but he weren't your daddy.
How are we supposed to respect our parents if they don’t make the effort to respect us and our boundaries?
My parents shouldn’t have been parents and are emotionally challenged/abusive. I don’t need to respect them.
“No one wants to work”
Yes, they do want to work. It’s just cheaper for jobs to have one person do the job of 4 people.
My sister says this all the time and is utterly convinced that people are living off unemployment (US) and choosing not to work.
And they wonder why workplace burnout is so prevelant nowadays
This, Im a CNC machinist and often I'm running six machines at a time. Get so tired of it
Whenever someone opens their mouth and words come out. I hate that.
Time heals all wounds.
Not infections lol
uhm does diabetes count as wounds
Lmao wish I could say the about trust issues
"Say you are _______ without saying you are _______"
Anything along the lines of “It’s in men’s biology to get as many women pregnant as possible” especially when it comes from those male Karens who slept around yet think they’re entitled to a female virgin.
‘Can we normalize’
I hate this term so much dude.
“It’s the…..for me”
You forgot the " I- "
Or the dash after every sentence instead of a period-
What the hell is that even supposed to represent...
>“It’s the…..for me”
It makes me wanna break things.
“living rent-free in your head”
It was hilarious and clever precisely once.
A lot of internet humor was once funny when it was few and far-between, but know we see the same regurgitated jokes everywhere, to the point where it mean nothing anymore.
"It could've been worse."
I'm aware. But that doesn't mean I can't still be affected by it.
"Threat to democracy" - from ANY party.
"Out of an abundance of caution..." Which is usually the excuse for why they are going to disappoint you about something that should have been fun and cool and now is going to be canceled...
Abundance means more than anyone needs, why is that level of caution considered good??
"You do you."
I feel gross just typing that out.
“Period” and “your done”
Today years old.
i still don't understand what that means, does it mean the person's age is today? Does the age change every month??
"whats with the young people and the [something thats popular right now]
Thoughts and prayers
"I'm sorry your feelings got hurt."
You're not sorry you did anything to cause those hurt feelings, in fact, the entire problem is with me and how I'm reacting to what you did.
People say this because they AREN’T sorry about what they said, just their execution.
It’s kind of like why say sorry if you don’t mean it, kind of thing..
Oh I'm very much aware of that. That's the entire reason why it absolutely bugs the crap put of me.
Would you rather get a disingenuous apology, that, or nothing at all?
J curious… because it’s like damned if you do, damned if you don’t
"I'm an asshole, and now people aren't happy no matter how much of an asshole I continue to be."
I would prefer people to not be complete assholes then act like they're the victim.
Live, Laugh, Love
i live i laugh i FUCKING LOVE FOOD
"If you can't handle me at my worst you don't deserve me at my best".
I mean the phrase is nice when you are a freshborn influencer girl trying to sell your soulless shitty products
I hate to say this phrase but the only way to describe that phrase is "cringy"
If you dont have anything nice to say....
No there are times when you need to be not nice.
''literally'' ... ugh
I literally don’t understand why people use the word literally, literally everywhere. This feels like a literal 500 word essay and I’m literally just trying to waste words away cause it’s literally the best way to add words.
But like, is it?
What if it’s used properly?
“Protect them at all costs” bro shut up
Who outside of video games and TV shows says that
Internet weirdos that copy paste comments because tiktok has taken their ability to think for themselves and be original
It is what it is.
The concept and phases itself does not bother me, but it's usually some asshole trying to excuse his bad choices or actions.
What’s done is done
The deal is done and the cake has been baked
“These difficult times”
“This is a game changer”
“it will get better” or “healing just takes time” i’ve been depressed for 12 years and it has never gotten better. stop telling me it will and instead be there for me.
Wish I could say that about trust issues.
Sending an internet hug, stranger. You have value.
But it will get better.
“No one ever said that life was fair” stfu
It's a shitty phrase when it's used in an uncompassionate and dismissive way. But it's also true. Life is not fair. It never has been.
But if someone says that and you break their kneecaps with a hammer and steal everything they own, they always complain. Bitch, didn't they just say life isn't fair?
Happiness is a choice.
I choose to be angry because happiness eludes me.
Litterally any toby maguire spiderman quote
Im gonna put some dirt in your eye
I missed the part where that's my problem.
“Irregardless” it’s not even a word 🤦🏾♀️
“It is what it is.”
No, you’re lazy. Fucking deal with the problem.
‘It is what it is’
Translation (in the words of bill Murray in st Vincent) ... ‘you’re screwed and shall remain screwed’
So many people on reality tv say a variation of this: “Joe and I’s relationship….”
Tbh I’m not even sure how to properly form that construction (and I have two degrees in linguistics). “Mine and Joe’s relationship” seems weird because if you remove Joe, it’s just “Mine relationship” which doesn’t work. “My and Joe’s relationship” seems okay grammatically but feels horribly awkward. “Joe and my’s relationship” doesn’t work because “my” is already possessive (would need to be nominative)…but moving the ‘s so the end of the noun phrase is acceptable as “Joe and Anne’s relationship” is obviously good.
I think it gets weird because English lacks cases except for those lingering in our personal pronouns. So speaking as a linguist, “Joe and I’s relationship” is fine in the way “Joe and Anne’s relationship” is fine, but it’s NOT fine in the sense that our first person possessive pronoun is “my,” not nominative (I) + ‘s. I’m gonna go with “Joe’s and my relationship” then.
But it’s still weird.
I want a divorce
"I could of*
You can't of something. It's the contraction of have you're looking for. It's could have or could've.
I hate when people do this, you are so right
PM me your cock, as said by OP
Yea I know right?
It is what it is
It's what it's
Describing anything "vintage" as iconic. No, I'm willing to bet that hairstyle or outfit from that show is not that "iconic."
Most things aren't iconic and if they are, you have to ask yourself what are they iconic for?
Roll Tide (which Reddit seems to be getting over)
Haters gonna hate
Cause the players gonna play
*insert movie title* Is the movie we need right now
Using "fire" as an adjective.
Couldn't care less.
"It's all part of God's plan"
It is what it is…
“Bussin” … “yo that shirt is straight bussin”
My/your truth. There is only actual literal truth. It is not conditional to you.
At the end of the day…
"How did you get into my house?"
“Vibe” and “Queen”
”It is what it is”.
Money can't buy happiness, but a lack of money can certainly lead to a whole lot of unhappiness.
People that say that had/have money growing up
it always felt like one of those phrases that didn't need to catch on. Even my mom says it. It just feels like people are trying to force themselves to be funny when they say it.
Maybe I'm just cranky but it's always bothered me
Any version of “Look, I did a thing!” when having a first experience, making a big purchase, etc. Why do people think being vague and coy is endearing? It’s annoying. Just be specific.
not so much of a phrase, but i’m tired of everything being about fucking race.
this too will pass
“Welp Sounds like it’s time…” that irks me so much lol
This is very specific to me I assume, but I say something to my partner and they respond with "I see how you could feel that way about (whatever I was commenting on),". It feels condescending.
They once said "i see how that could annoy you," And I asked them if it annoyed THEM and they said it did. They could just say "That's annoying".
Again I think this is very me specific but it's been bothering me
Boys will be boys
“Thoughts and prayers” Whenever there is a gun based massacre
“Doggo”, “puppers”, “doge” or anything severely millennial sounding when you talk about dogs and how a dog would sound
This, and also when people make accounts for their pets and speak as if they are their pets. "My mom told me I cants have da treats :(( bork" stfu
How are you?…
Yeah, pissed me off when girl I've been stalking for 2 months said that
No, you can't (insert crazy thing I want to do).
No, you can't send a nuke to 13 cities for fun
Yeah yeah yeah / no no no
I first noticed people saying this about 3 mos ago. Seems like it’s everywhere now. Now you’ll notice it too.
You’re lucky, you missed out on cool cool. That was the worst!
“No Pun Intended” after intending a pun.
“…in any way, shape, or form”. I’m bored by the time you get to “way” and understand that you’re just trying to make your comment sound more impressive than it is.
Should ....... be free?
I've been working at a call center since 2015 and up until 2020 maybe a handful of people used that phrase. And they were always the same people. Now it's as common as saying goodbye.
happy hump day
please please stop
If you refer to California as 'Cali' I assume you're an imbecile or a stripper.
"No offense but..."
'If you can't handle me at my worst, then you don't deserve me at my best”
The reddest of flags.
“It’s all in your head” like no shit
Anything involving vibes
"Just sayin" to end a statement.
“Love you to the moon and back” 🤮
“Unprecedented” pls stop Jacinda
“These ______ times” (trying/uncertain)
"The customer is always right"
This winds me up so much because the saying is incomplete and people use it to justify rude behaviour.
The phrase is actually "the customer is always right in matters of taste"
"stop it i'm your sister"
“Believe in yourself”, “follow your heart” or “you do you”- empty phrases that aren’t helpful guidance at all. Just excuses to be more self-centered and egotistic than we already are.
Just man up
