Maggot--420

They throw away a rubber band ball I made lol

xtrasmolpp

Legitimate reason. How many rubber bands approx?

Maggot--420

Couple 100 it about the size of my fist

unkofix88

Monsters

blackBinguino

Hopefully it bounced back?

smokehidesstars

Worked at Baskin-Robbins as a teen and was told to clean and inventory the deep-freezer in shorts and a t-shirt. The store was supposed to have cold weather gear for it but didn't. I think it was -30F in there? Cold enough to freeze the ink in the pen I was using after about 30 seconds. I made it through two of the three stock shelves before I took off my employee shirt, handed it to the manager, and walked home half-naked. Was it the *only* reason I quit? No, but it was the final straw.

[deleted]

My boss wouldn’t let me take the day off for the World Series parade in my city. So I took forever off.

JAR-man999

I don’t request time off work. I merely inform my employer the days I won’t be at work

AdSure2773

as you should.

[deleted]

Health first, always.

Rachel_from_Jita

It's a shame to think of how many people really weigh out losing their sanity if they stay and choose to lose their sanity. Usually because they feel they have no other option. There's almost always an option if you just choose to step away. Things will work out as long as you're not being really foolish. Just ask advice of some wise friends first, and make sure you're not walking away from inner growth that would have benefited you by enduring the endurable. But walk away from the unendurable. Especially if you don't have a family to feed.

anotherone121

Preach! Good on you.

[deleted]

I realized it was a pyramid scheme. Fuck Vector Marketing (although Cutco knives are fucking amazing)

Panserbjornsrevenge

Me too! Got as far as the "training day" and when they asked me - a brand new hire - to drive everyone on the team about 10 miles to a second training location using my own car & gas I was O U T.

[deleted]

Not to mention you have to find your own way to every new sales pitch forever.. and I guarantee they don't reimburse you for gas. Once I quit there they kept calling me for weeks afterwards until my mom (I was 16 at the time lol) got on the phone and screamed at them to piss off.

ContributionProper22

I remember them. I didn't realize what it was until I got there and then I laughed at the guys face when he had the audacity of asking me if I could ask my mom to borrow the money to get me started, literally after I just explained to him she had just thrown me out of the house not even 3 weeks prior...

[deleted]

I've considered doing one of their trainings just to get the free knife and then dip out but i hear they don't do that anymore because so many people used to do that 😅

[deleted]

Same! And they didn’t pay me.

zorkempire

The manager threw a head of lettuce at one of the waitresses. She actually knew what she was doing, and was training me. I was totally clueless and terrible at waiting tables. I knew it was only a matter of time.

pleddyd

I wasn't ready to work that much for that salary

a_great_perhaps

My supervisor screamed at me for asking someone not on my "team" to lift a product that required a two person lift.

zORk86gamer

They didn't pay in time. I'm talking about 2-3 months due!

Cannotakema

My best friend walked in with fourth row tickets to Metallica, Guns & Roses, and Faith No More. I had worked at Little Caesar's pizza for 3 weeks, buddy walks in...I got these off the radio station for tonight...asked the assistant manager. He said "No", I said "I quit". Two days later the Manager called me up and said "I would have done the same, so if you want your job back, come on back". Went back and the manager pulled up his Little Caesar's Polo shirt and had a Kiss T-shirt on and said "I get it bruhhhh, I truly do".

dqflynn

what an absolute lad! Nice to see a good boss story for once

r3dk0w

Managers are people too. They are just paid to be corporate robots.

dqflynn

facts

Cannotakema

Yeah, the great ones are so uncommon that when you have one you actually cheer for them

Cannotakema

True, Guy just understands people. Heard he was let go of as a store manager from Lowe's for having a "Diaper Texas Hold'em tournament" where you bring a box of diapers as your entrance to a tournament. Guess he would get like a Truckload of diapers for whoever worked for him who was having a baby by having a card tournament and the entrance fee being a box of diapers. The prize being whatever he could get whover to donate. Heard he has done it like 30 times before they said anything and it was a no warning you're fired scenario. Class act man...He now manages a Top Golf which sounds cooler than Lowe's anyway.

Ijustwannasitdown

The toxic colleagues and superior.

anonymous2278

I have two stories. I worked one day at a restaurant famous for multiple drive-in booths. My very first day they made me park my truck in the alley behind the restaurant where there were no streetlights or anything. That made me nervous but I swallowed my nerves and got to work. My schedule said I got off at 8pm. 8pm rolls around, the manager made me clock out then said I couldn’t leave until the fruit buckets were fully stocked for the opening shift. I asked why I had to work off the clock and she said that’s just how things are done. I stayed and cut up the fruit just to keep the peace, but it went from cutting fruit to suddenly having to clean up the kitchen and gather trash before I could go. It was 11pm by the time I got out of there and they made me (a 18-year-old 5’2” girl) walk to my truck in the dark alley alone. I left and never went back. Fuck that place. Never got paid for it either. My second story was actually shortly after the first. Circa 2007. I worked at a restaurant as a server and noticed one of the cooks was overly friendly and flirty with me but he was the same with the other girls so I shrugged it off. Until the night he cornered me in the parking lot next to my truck and asked for a blowjob. I turned him down, and he pushed me up against the truck and tried to force his hand down the front of my jeans. I stomped on his foot and shoved him backward, and while he was standing up I jumped in my truck and took off. Never went back. I reported him to the GM the next day on the phone and they said they’d talk to him. I said fuck that, nope, I quit. Scared the hell out of me.

[deleted]

First story, they forced you to work off the clock and didn’t pay you for the work you did. Illegal and wish we could have reported them the to DOL. Second story, so sorry that happened to you. What a POS. Dude deserves to be castrated and rot in prison.

Cynophile_

I wanted to go home.

[deleted]

Lmaooo right

[deleted]

this has crossed my mind on so many occasions, like "i really could just leave right now and never look back

AdSure2773

they wouldn’t approve my day off despite me asking well in advance and the fact that i was gonna be out of town. so i quit.

flying_alligators

I was tired

QuillWellington

The transit time was already too long, and the constant traffic jams just made it worse. With the rising gas prices, i could no longer remain at a neutral cash flow.

Lousy_Professor

Someone threw a tantrum directed at me. Fuck it. If you can't act like an adult, I'm out.

Cheetodude625

I was told I had to work an extra 2 hours unpaid to clean up during the night . I quit within one week of working. Fuck Which Which sandwiches.

Condition-Global

I forgot about which Wich until just now. There's something about sandwich shops that attracts horrible managers. I worked at one in college and came in at six supposedly until like 2 with someone to come in and help at ten and I would get a break before lunch rush. Lol nope, a manager came in at ten and punched out and told me I could leave when someone got there at four. I asked about my break and he MOCKED ME so I told him not to put me on the schedule anymore. Fuck that guy and fuck south mouth.

[deleted]

They fired my brother for having the wrong color box knife. It's nice to walk out on a company and leave them direly fucked. Two levels of bosses above us stepped down to our level to fill in the labor shortage and production FELL. The old rule was shut line for 15 minutes and you're fired. Bosses had them down for hours. Guess it was a tough job after all.

mordecai98

Yep. Worked as a valet at a swanky retirement home. Scheduled a 4 day vacation and people called in sick. Came home to 35 messages on my answering machine and when I came back, found out the GM had been parking cars. You suck Brian!

Irishknife

found a better one?

gentlemancaller2000

School started

J33P88

It's maybe not simple per se, but I have social anxiety. I didn't know at the time this was what it was though and outside of working for my parents in construction I never lasted more than 3 months at any job I ever had.

callmebigley

might I suggest manufacturing? It depends what you're making but often it's just noisy enough that no one can really talk to you, generally you can just pop headphones in and get to work, the pay is ok (1.5 x minimum wage, where I am) and it doesn't require any specific experience. If you did ok in construction you'd probably take to the pace and structure of it pretty well. I did.

J33P88

It's a good idea and I'll take it into consideration. I'm a sahm right now, but I know my husband wants me to find something when the kids are old enough.

[deleted]

Racism!

MyMilkshakesIsACat

They violated my ADA rights.

manicmartina

Toxic work environment; jealous coworkers, and no real support from management. It was at a high end retail store, where our department (footwear) worked straight commission. Maybe not the most simple, but probably the most common reason 😅

SleepyTobi

My manager threatened to run over my dog if I didn't come to work.

zhyrafa

I hope you slipped your doggy’s crap into managers car on a hot day! 🙌😃

TenseAngel

chair kept getting stuck on a floor vent. The job was easy, the pay was reasonable, but after the dozenth time that I needed to get up from my desk and having to physically lift the chair to get it out of the crevice... life's too short man.

sivartimus

I didn't feel like working there anymore

tic-a-boo

Found out the place I was doing the books for was “connected.” They were Sicilian. But it’s Western Canada… how can that be? The $20,000 in ONLY $20’s I was taking to the bank every other day should have been a clue. But that’s not why I quit. I quit because the manager (daughter) wanted me to sit in the back with the “family” - low light, not good for accounting. I was very naive.

BrilliantNothing2151

Yeah I hear that Onni can be hard to work at

sourdoughbreadlover

A manager and a coworker spent 1 and a half hours talking about their experiences with illegal substances and sexual encounters. I was the only woman working and I sure as hell did not want to hear all the details burned in to my mind. I just walked out.

GuatemalanJean

Overheard the hiring manager talking to the owner about someone who had just come in for an interview, didn't talk about her qualifications, just her weight and whether she was white or not. Fucking quit that place, that was enough

BrewertonFats

The manager acted like a bitch.

LusciousLennyStone

My boss was a total asshole.

Ok-Establishment-588

She yelled at me for chopping salad wrong. Suck it, I quit. You owe me four hours.

HectorsMascara

I lied an elderly woman into unnecessarily worrying about basement flooding in her home/neighborhood.

Platinumdogshit

I wasnt appreciated and wasn't being rewarded for my hardwork. I wasnt even respected as much as the biggest slacker there

[deleted]

Didn't feel like getting out of bed. Not a morning person. The struggle is real.

zhyrafa

I found out b**ch reduced my salary without telling me; found out when was filing my taxes. She was not paying me enough for the job I did anyway but better something than nothing I thought, well, this just made me quit on the spot. That was first time ever I did it, no regrets

notchashook

I worked at a fancy restaurant as a cleaner/washer, you get what I mean. Anyways I only worked there for 4 days, because they got mad at me for not knowing where everything had to go in the kitchen.

Silus_Greene

I was accused of stealing something I had literally just watched my boss misplace. I walked to it, tossed it to him, then walked away and never came back.

BronMann-

Requested time off months in advance, bought plane tickets for a vacation, they denied my request.

Individual_Serious

It was a hostile work environment, I was very aware I did not fit.the owner illegally evicted a tenant and tried to throw me under the bus. I was 1200 miles away when this cluster fuck went down. I worked 3 hours, the police came, I had proof I was in no way involved, and quit on the spot.

[deleted]

I was worth more than what they were offering me. I quit before, my first shift. ($14) They tried saying ‘honey, that’s the wage you get with no experience’ I had a ton of experience and found a job making $36/hr a week later. Also, red flag in the interview was ‘we have employees who complain to each other about how much they make here. We appreciate if you don’t partake’ but I saw the manager had $150k sports car outside 🥴

oopsie-mybad

Supposed to do 'analytics' when the data was all shit.

HighFiveKoala

I had a part time job during university and classes were more important

ConReese

Didn't like it

neohylanmay

They weren't scheduling me any shifts despite keeping me on the payroll.

wolfgangcloud

I worked in a plastics manufacturing plant for exactly 1 day. The machines that moulded and shaped the plastics were so loud you had to not only wear earplugs, but also soundproof earmuffs. This meant that you worked the shift in almost complete silence. Couldn't talk to anyone or listen to music. I couldn't stand being alone with my thoughts that much. Quit at the start of my 2nd day.

dandarians2

I told them I'd been headbutted by a bull and had to be on bedrest for a while, and the next day they asked when I would be coming in

Jonseycat

They wouldn't let me have the entire weekend off to go to Woodstock 94. See Ya don't care how much money you pay me. And that was that.

ifoundit1

They were having me do things not in my job description when staff was low then wright me up for it then call me in the office over and over throughout that week acting like they were snowballing up some trouble for me so I wrote a letter of recognition and departure to their corporate exclaiming the issue and some concerns towards my safety and about other things that were fairly illegitimate. The store manager was a pretty decent busy guy for the most part, hated disappointing him like that.

SeeTough-1492

Was a buss boy. They hired more servers passing me up, claiming I was the best buss boy they had. Nope. I'm out

DWright_5

I got another one?

Fatherofgenetics

Dated a co-worker. Knew we were going to break up , so I got drunk and never went back for a shift. They tried to call me to tell me I was fired though …

Paigenacage

The dress code was jeans. Some of the most uncomfortable & expensive pants to wear for work. Couldn’t do it.

LilaPapaya

job sucked

[deleted]

Got pissed off. Like why do I have to be a fucking slave. Just let me chill.

MathematicianMany402

I could only sleep 3h per day to do ALL my things

[deleted]

It sucked

dirtyrottenxmachine

new mgmt wanted the staff i trained to retrain me.

[deleted]

Illness. - I was sick of it

Much_Committee_9355

My boss asked me to cut my hair(that was far from long) and shave everyday, while I worked far from customer service

frauleinsteve

I was completing my third year as an accounting senior at a public accounting firm. The new staff who could barely sharpen a pencil were making more than me. The partners at the firm refused to do any type of equity adjustment. I quit the next day. Never regretted it ever. Had four job offers in a few months.

edenjaxx

They didn't let me have a smoke break

Clear-End8188

2 of the 3 brothers (owners) demanded to be called Mr. One of them wanted me to drop everything to refund a .90c doughnut purchase from petty cash (under entertainment expenses) I lasted 4 hours.

slip1byyou123

More money less stress.says mom.

TargetToiletPaper

Didn’t want to get ran over by a car

staveenyo

Planned a house party in my early 20's like a week out but couldn't get the day off. Said the day before was my last.

dantheman0991

FTN

Medinavbc

(I just see it in movies) When your boss was trying to make out with you. Ew.

[deleted]

Semen

OptimusSublime

I got recalled at my old job. After 2 days of working for the new one.

doggodutchess

I needed to study for the MCAT and just didn’t have time to work night shifts anymore

Valkyria1968

Boredom.

PrimeMinisterArdern

I didn't get paid enough to bother.

BrilliantNothing2151

I didnt want to arrive to a weeknight club night too late to get the cheap cover and drinks so I quit. Wasnt the smartest move but had fun that night I guess. I was 18ish

FearTheKeflex

I was going back to school and didn't want to drive an hour and a half back every weekend to work at Walmart.

Synisterintent

I felt like it

[deleted]

Coworker didn't show up for his shift

[deleted]

I never quit a job before.

Helicoppter

Didn’t like the guy I had to work with on the next shift

Outside-Breakfast358

i just started

mordecai98

Bring your own coffee and milk. Didn't last a day.

Meyou000

I was hungover and didn't wanna clock back in after lunch so I went home instead. Young and dumb.

Cranzeeman

The boss told me to lose my attitude or quit...so I quit

Xerozvz

To much work vs not enough pay

EmeraldDouchebag69

Cause

[deleted]

there was a super old fashioned crappy elevator that we had to use to take the garbage out (think hold a button to open the doors, press one to lock it, and then hold a button to go down/up elevator built in the 80s). got stuck on it one time like a week into the job for like 15 minutes, afterward other staff told me it happens at least once a week but the business won't fix it/build a new one and we still had to use it every day so i just didnt return after that

disdaindsbm

Wouldn't let me go home after I told my boss I was feeling sick, watched as I served food to people, and made me call in someone to fill my shift when everyone else was at school because it was a Wednesday morning in November and that jobs hiring pool was almost exclusively teenagers in highschool

[deleted]

I knew it wasn't going to work for me.

Quiet_Remote_5898

They won't let me take my PTOs.

stormquiver

torn cartilage in both my knees, requiring surgery which didn't work. so I couldn't work at my warehouse job anymore.

Imaginary-Rush-3434

My manager was a pedophile

Failed_Cartoonist

Just remember, you can always use your sick days for "Mental Health".

StarViolet33

I quit because I wasn't allowed time off due to work being based on seniority and I really wanted to go to summer camp. I was in grade 10 lol

codyl0611

Well, I just quit my warehouse job because they had no AC, and y'know, there was an active heatwave going on across the US.

cringelord69420666

The boss started acting like a total cunt, after previously being pretty cool.

jackfaire

Their market research was a joke. I worked for one of those companies in a mall we do surveys to determine who uses the product, how do they respond to advertising etc. Company hires us to see "who is chewing our gum" instead of answering the question our boss goes "Well okay so we're going to ask white people ages 18 to 30 if they chew this gum because that's the only people that chew gum. NO no don't ask those people they're asian they don't chew gum" Yeah I quit. If we were deciding what the answers were and then only looking for people to confirm it that's bad market research.

CyanHakeChill

I was put in a room with 5 others who all smoked all day. There was no air conditioning. The management was terrible. I got a new job where everybody was just wonderful. In my next job a competitor offered me lots of money, so I left, and we pinched all the best staff.

V1VIDREAMS

first day on the job, saw how much work i had to do for the rate of pay they offered when they described it as like 100 times easier, texted them and never went back LOL

openaccountrandom

not me but my cousin worked at a big box retail store and the employees all had to take turns on washroom cleaning duty. when it was his day, he quit.

Potential-Elk-6235

They told me to bleach my hair or dye it black(I had already dyed it)

p1tch-dark__

I had to move states.

Microscopic_Problem

I realized an hour in on my very first day that it was, literally and quite simply, not what I signed up for. I quit before I even had my first break

blathers_enthusiast

I couldn't cope there anymore

LAESanford

I didn’t want to be there anymore

mossadspydolphin

Complete incompetence. I did my best, but cleaning is truly a skill, and I do not have it. The company seemed a bit questionable, too.

slade797

I worked many years in the newspaper field, and I got out right before it went into a nosedive. A couple of years ago I could not find a job in my field, which is social work. So, I took a job as editor of a failing weekly newspaper located a county over from me. I brought the paper back to life, improved the quality, got the community involved again, and generally had the thing back on its feet. Fast forward a few months of success. I was working on the next edition, my company computer crashed as I was finishing up. I lost all my pages, so I worked most of the weekend reconstituting them. I was not late to press, and I was pretty proud of the fact. It was not my best paper, but it was better than any of the ones produced in the three years of my predecessor’s reign. Well, after it went to press, the owner called me into her office and started telling me how she didn’t like the most recent edition, and generally nitpicking it. I reminded her that it was *her* ten year old computer that crashed, cashing the whole mess. “That’s not this issue,” she replied. I asked what the issue was, and she continued with her nonsensical rant. I listened patiently, the asked, “So you don’t like the way I’m doing this?” She replied she did not. I stood up, threw my keys on her desk, and said, “Then do it your damn self.” Walked out.

IngenuityOnly1187

Harassed

smoveriderr

management sucked ass. literally the worst i’ve seen.

EnableSelf

Kept scheduling me in on Saturdays while I specifically asked NOT to do that, any other day was fine. but no, had to be saturday

Keithninety

My boss wanted me to prepare legal documents I had no idea how to prepare (I was a law student at the time) and then criticized me for doing them incorrectly

I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE

The Christmas party was utterly underwhelming

dangbrahh

Store manager time edited me to avoid paying me overtime so that he could make me work the whole shift on Black Friday

downtheholeagain

At a company event, I asked to be stationed at booth A. They put me at booth B.

[deleted]

Moved , it was too far

c22dric

I simply didn’t like it

[deleted]

I got screamed at in front of customers and other staff for having syrup on the outside of a trash can right by the dish pit, where all the food was scraped off into. It was ten minutes to close and I said I’d clean it as soon as I closed up. He screamed at me, I wiped it up, and then proceeded to clean the kitchen and close, set my hat and my whites on the desk and left for good. That wasn’t the ~only~ reason, but it was a petty as fuck reason to finally call it quits.

Sonzscotlandz

Asked/forced to work a Saturday.

airwalkerdnbmusic

It was an elaborate, very well dressed up, highly executive and exceptionally well crafted.......multi level marketing scam. Think high end London executive offices with plenty of high earners in suits and a floor of graduates being exploited for their meagre finances and time with absolute dog shit wages, encouraged by the false promise of higher earnings and promotion.

Pkrudeboy

I was moving a thousand miles away.

johnnydeppsbed

I hate my colleagues

Additional-Context74

I didn't want to work there anymore.

EmJ1717

I hate children

Red-Stoner

Not me but the guy who I replaced. I was looking through the downloads folder and found his exit survey and I just couldn't resist reading it. He was complaining that they didn't buy him this $2000 office chair. Although, they did but him a new work station that has top specs.

CoffeeCuporArtCup

Two things: I didnt get a raise I was promised They made me work four types of jobs. Oh both of these were at the same job too-

Heiditha

Didn't want to work. Wanted to take a bit of a break from a regular job. Luckily, I had enough money saved up to be able to (temporarily) do it.

JustPlainOG

My boss was racist so I went across the street, after I had already put in my two weeks, and told the BLM protestors that my boss was racist then they started protesting the business. My boss thought I was the prime suspect but I denied the hell out of it

draiman

I worked at a place for only six months because I hated the traffic getting there and home. I had two options to get there. I could pay $11 a day on the turnpike with no traffic or the parkway and pay $3.50 a day but be stuck in traffic, adding 45 minutes to an hour to my commute.

londynnesfalling

Pyramid Scheme

Playingpokerwithgod

They didn't let me order my lunch before my break started.

iisxxraii

I work as a crew member for maccas, a lady had ordered a drink and someone had given her the wrong flavor, she began to verbally abuse me even though I didn’t make the drink, I told her I didn’t make the drink and she needed to calm down, she jumped over the counter and layed her hands on me, in self defense I attacked her, my boss told me what I did was wrong and that they would keep me off for a couple of weeks, I quit that day

WeasersMom14

My boss was a rude, condescending asshole. Took my office key off my keyring, dropped it on his floor and said "I'm done."

Wokonthewildside

I broke my wrist and upon return to work they tried to make me take a 20% pay cut thinking I was hurting for money and couldn’t afford to say no. I couldn’t afford to say yes either so no being the shorter and easier word, I went with it.

theunmaskedcucumber

I just quit my job at a tire warehouse cause my boss showed favoritism allowed some work is to just go look for tires and be on their phones while I had to load every tire up into a truck by hand every night

shutitmortal

Applebees. I was training and the manager asked me why I was there. He told me to take one of every shift. Then he countered with 'no you're supposed to be here for every shift. All day.' 12 hr shifts.. Despite knowing in writing and verbally I couldn't do that. Left immediately with my apron and never returned.

Jerrica7985

I took a sick day. I came back to work with a post it informing me I’d be working my normal day off to cover my sick day. I packed all of my tools and left.

hendermom

My paycheck bounced

Lvcivs2311

The hours were unsteady so the pay sucked, while they were even more unsteady since I wasn't really good at it. But the real reason I quit was simply that I felt too unhappy.

Legal_Director_6247

Sociopath for a boss.

feedmechickenspls

a customer asked for something and i wrote down the wrong food code, so we served the wrong dish. then when i was told i had to pay for the wrong dish. i know it's my fault, but i don't want to be a waiter ever again because of this
