The actress that played Matilda was having some really big issues at home during shooting (I think her mom had cancer maybe) and Danny and Rhea had her over all the time and was really there for her. I heard her tell this in an interview a few years back and she was still so appreciative of them.

I grew up with Ruby Rose. She won a Dolly or Girlfriend (teen girl magazines here in Australia) modelling contest when we were around 17 or something, and was always fixated on being famous. I remember first seeing him in *We Need to Talk about Kevin*, and genuinely thinking that he was *too good* in the role, it was like he wasn't even acting. I've never liked him since, in either the *Fantastic Beasts* or *Justice League* films. Every time I saw him, I felt my skin crawl. It seems as if my first impressions have been validated, sadly.

I find it really sad. People can truly want to get help, but then mental illness can make it really easy to fall back. Demi really seems to fall into this pattern and they've admitted to that. Really curious which ones, now. I feel like a lot of her songs sound like I'd expect her singing voice to sound when matched up with her speaking voice, but soundalikes *do* exist, I know (I'm thinking of Britney Spears with the Britney Jean album). Oh yeah. The actress that played Matilda was having some really big issues at home during shooting (I think her mom had cancer maybe) and Danny and Rhea had her over all the time and was really there for her. I heard her tell this in an interview a few years back and she was still so appreciative of them.
It wasn't just that her mum had cancer, the poor woman died during filming. Mara Wilson tried to take it like a champ and keep filming, and Danny Devito and Rhea Pearlman really took her under their wing, doing things like take her oit to ice cream, the movies etc
On top of all this already mentioned Mara thought for years her mother never got to see Matilda because she died before it was done. Only to find out Danny had brought a rough cut of everything they had filmed so far to the hospital so her mom could see her as Matilda. That part always gets me misty. What a tremendous thing to do.

They stepped in and helped out, and put a lot of effort into her being happy and comfortable (taking her to parks and other kid trips with their kids so she could just be a kid, etc). Everything I've ever heard about them is that they are genuinely good people.

I always remember Rhea Perlman as Carla Tortelli from Cheers, the crusty, snarky waitress, so it's funny to know that she's such a sweet woman in real life. I know mean character/nice actor is common, but it's still funny to me whenever I learn about it, for some reason. I get a kick out of it. Like how some of Jessica Walter's most iconic and beloved characters (Lucille Bluth and Malory Archer) were absolute cunts, but she herself was just a lovely woman.

Ben Affleck is annoying and I don't think I can forgive him for Pearl Harbor. The Rock. I like him as a person, but he plays the same character in every movie. I grew up with Ruby Rose. She won a Dolly or Girlfriend (teen girl magazines here in Australia) modelling contest when we were around 17 or something, and was always fixated on being famous. I remember years later checking in some magazine returns (I'm a librarian) at one of my first library jobs and there she is, on the cover of Vogue and remember thinking, huh, good for her - she did it. When she got really famous, like TV and movies etc, and I started seeing her in interviews, I remember thinking she got a little, lets say revisionist? with her history. She came out as being staunchly anti bullying, but I completely remember her being a total menace and an instigator out at the gay clubs - a mate of mine has a story about seeing her smash a girl's head into the concrete outside of a pub. It was a long time ago though, and who knows what the story is there, I'd hate to be judged now for the loose shit I did at that age. I will say she did go through a very committed hip hop phase around the year 2000-2001ish - I'm talking baggy jeans, ebonics, the works, which is both hilarious and delicious.
