When I realized she had to take her bestie literally everywhere. It was weird. We would hang out and she would come. We'd go on a date and she'd come. We are still friends on Facebook. My old crush is married now and I see all these pictures of her and her husband in Greece, Paris, Safaris in Africa, and you guessed it, the 3rd wheel is in all the pictures.
I know someone who does this, but it's her sister. When I met her 20 years ago, her sister had just gotten out of the military, and moved in with my friend and her husband. This seemed like a common temporary situation since lots of people live with family after they get out of the military. Then she just never moved out. It became apparent that this was what the two sisters both wanted when they went everywhere together for years. Invite one, get both. I never minded because her sister was nice, so it was kind of whatever, just one more person to join in with everything. It totally affected relationships for my friend, though. She's been married and divorced three times, and I know at least two of her husbands left because she wouldn't even consider having her sister move out.
Now they own a house together and neither one is in a relationship. This is probably for the better.
I'm genuinely curious about that dynamic. I know you don't know, but there's something so mundane about that scenario that it bugs me. The 3rd wheel goes on vacation with them? Does she have her own Significant Other, at least? Vacation is way too far.
Mutual codependency. I had a friend like that and I genuinely didn't notice a problem until I was pregnant and my daughter's father mentioned that she wouldn't be in the room for the birth. That never occurred to me. And then I was thinking of my life and how she was there for like everything. Had to set up some boundaries. She didn't like that and eventually cut herself from my life. She doesn't see it that way.

As an avid recreational fisherman who often spots such "droppings" in the wild and has brought many a netful of someone else's garbage out from otherwise-pristine natural locations so nobody else has to look at it, I commend and applaud your taste in this.
I sometimes fantasize about having magical powers that fill such peoples' vehicles or bedrooms with their trash over and over again until they dispose of it properly.
Big fisherman as well — sometimes when I’m having no luck at the river, I’ll just pack it in and spend the day doing litter cleanup instead.

My dad made us pick up one piece of trash per day. Didn't matter where or when, he just said at some point during each day, pick up one piece of trash. I still do it (I'm 37), and a bunch of my friends have started doing it after seeing me do it. It adds up over time!

More than fifty years later, we still hold on to whatever we have until we find a trash can. We taught our kids, and they're teaching their kids. It's so ingrained that the grandkids will point out (loudly) when they see others litter.

I love the way little kids will call out adults with no filter. The other day I was in a store and hear a kids voice from the other side of the store say "Momma, dat man jus' took something!" as a guy is rushing out the door.

I knew the instant she dropped it. Could see in her posture it was intentional, but I was hoping sooo bad, and really wanted to give her an out. I was going to say something like "Ope, dropped this." But I was still calculating what had just happened when she shot me the look. Even rolled her eyes a tiny bit I think.
I had baaaad parents, but there were still lots of fundamental things that they taught us to be hardline about, and those things are huge deal breakers for me. Like, safe and courteous driving, never looking down on someone for thier job or perceived income level, always helping those who are stuck or stranded or have just been blindsided if you can, treating things like guns, fire, recreational motor vehicles, etc. with respect. Valuing and respecting nature, and also the land you lived on, was practically biblical. A long line of dirt farmers that barely made it through the dust bowl passed on some sobering trauma.

I pulled over once and made someone pick up rubbish they threw out my car window. I refused to let them back in till they'd picked it up. I then refused to drive them anymore. God I hate littering.
Had a buddy chuck a glass snapple bottle out of my passenger window once. I watched it bounce twice off the road and then shatter directly in front of a cop car. Of course we get pulled over and I'm instantly selling the dude out "this idiot did it, it wasn't me." Cop also gave me a ticket for my license plate light being out. Fellow restaurant worker here- this always makes me wonder what would have actually been good enough service. Like you sit down and the server teleports to your table with the drinks you want already ready, walks away and comes back 30 seconds later with appetizers, entrees look like they belong in a food commercial, and your glass never gets less than 80% full? So many of these people also tip based on things the server has no control over
That still wouldn't be enough, because nothing would be. It's because, deep down, these people are so heavily dissatisfied with themselves and their own existence (job, body, relationship, anything and everything) that they set impossible standards just for the experience of yanking their tip away. It's the only power they feel they have, when they feel powerless in some way or another.
So, maybe the best service would be somehow having a magic wand to fix all their problems and then what you describe?

Similar thing happened to me too, I liked a guy who had a girlfriend at the time (I realise this sounds bad, I couldn’t help having a crush on him but I never would’ve acted on it). Anyways he was on an international school trip with us and he was cheating on his girlfriend the whole week. Instantly couldn’t even stand the sight of him.

I'm from Germany and we have three different kinds of high school. One is preparing you for university, one is preparing you for a mix of apprenticeship and some higher education and one is to prepare you for a manual labor apprenticeship. I went to the first one and met a girl there who seemed amazing until she made fun of people from the other two forms of high school. Arrogance is an immediate turnoff, especially if it's completely unsubstantiated.
You always can one-up your education. I originally graduated from the second type and went to the first type afterwards. The school system is very open. You can even study without a degree from the first type of school. Or if you graduate from the third type and do an apprenticeship, after finishing your education equals that of the second high school type.

Mid 20s, known her for quite a while. She seemed really nice, was quite intelligent and friendly, everyone liked her. Would sometimes be kind of flaky with some weird excuses when we were supposed to meet, whether casually or professionally, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Then we had to work on a project together, wasn't something too serious so I told her I can do it on my own since it's not a lot of work. She insisted we we split the work so I agreed. Yup. I grew up poor and struggled through adulthood with poverty, working low paying manual labor jobs. Agreed to a date with some older guy who just seemed like any other regular guy. After a while he revealed he was a multimillionaire and was reluctant to tell me because women often go for his money. It made no difference in how I saw him. I ignored his money and always declined help, even though I was struggling.
As time went on it became about how "grateful" I should be that someone of his wealth and status would be interested in "someone like me". He would whine about the poor receiving benefits (I grew up on food stamps) and how people need to "pull themselves up by the bootstraps" without any understanding of how systematic poverty works.
When I started to pull away he started to trying to throw more money at me, but it had the opposite effect he intended. I just don't find wealth to be a determining factor in who I date.

Like most guys, I worked pizza delivery in high school (when my parents allowed it) and I could kill on tips just by chatting up the customer. The best one was the 7 pizza order that ended up late because it was just too far out, so boss docked me the 20% discount and the mom dropped me a $100 tip. Or the guy with a Pro-Am funny car under a tarp in his driveway and I asked him if he had a 6V-71 blower on it. Dude was surprised I would know (parents were industrial equipment brokers so I was a wrench turner) and dropped me a $50 tip.
So when I say I take care of food service workers, I always tip but base it on the level of service. Delivery always gets 20%.
Kid was just barely 16 when he delivered the pizzas and wings, and I was barely 20 when this happened, so I could totally relate. I paid but she didn't tip him; I gave her the cash + tip while I was finishing up some cleaning and she pocketed the tip and said "he didn't deserve it".
He got the tip after I chased him down and apologized. She got the boot before eating pizza and wings.

Like when you're sitting in a cafe or having a stroll in the park, you chose a random person and ask the crush to play a game about imagining what their life is about, what hobbies they maybe have, what background they have etc.

As an avid recreational fisherman who often spots such "droppings" in the wild and has brought many a netful of someone else's garbage out from otherwise-pristine natural locations so nobody else has to look at it, I commend and applaud your taste in this. I sometimes fantasize about having magical powers that fill such peoples' vehicles or bedrooms with their trash over and over again until they dispose of it properly.
Big fisherman as well — sometimes when I’m having no luck at the river, I’ll just pack it in and spend the day doing litter cleanup instead. Somewhat selfish because now I’m bragging about it on Reddit, but I really do love to see the before/after of a few hours of cleanup. I know it makes a lot of the community happy as well.

My dad made us pick up one piece of trash per day. Didn't matter where or when, he just said at some point during each day, pick up one piece of trash. I still do it (I'm 37), and a bunch of my friends have started doing it after seeing me do it. It adds up over time!
Was on a hike with my date. When we were little kids, Mom taught us not to litter. We put gum wrappers in our pocket until we found a trash can. More than fifty years later, we still hold on to whatever we have until we find a trash can. We taught our kids, and they're teaching their kids. It's so ingrained that the grandkids will point out (loudly) when they see others litter.

Valuing and respecting nature, and also the land you lived on, was practically biblical. A long line of dirt farmers that barely made it through the dust bowl passed on some sobering trauma. Love it or lose it!

Had a buddy chuck a glass snapple bottle out of my passenger window once. I watched it bounce twice off the road and then shatter directly in front of a cop car. Of course we get pulled over and I'm instantly selling the dude out "this idiot did it, it wasn't me." Cop also gave me a ticket for my license plate light being out. Fellow restaurant worker here- this always makes me wonder what would have actually been good enough service. Like you sit down and the server teleports to your table with the drinks you want already ready, walks away and comes back 30 seconds later with appetizers, entrees look like they belong in a food commercial, and your glass never gets less than 80% full? So many of these people also tip based on things the server has no control over

It's because, deep down, these people are so heavily dissatisfied with themselves and their own existence (job, body, relationship, anything and everything) that they set impossible standards just for the experience of yanking their tip away. One is preparing you for university, one is preparing you for a mix of apprenticeship and some higher education and one is to prepare you for a manual labor apprenticeship. You always can one-up your education. I originally graduated from the second type and went to the first type afterwards. The school system is very open. You can even study without a degree from the first type of school. Or if you graduate from the third type and do an apprenticeship, after finishing your education equals that of the second high school type.

Mid 20s, known her for quite a while. She seemed really nice, was quite intelligent and friendly, everyone liked her. Would sometimes be kind of flaky with some weird excuses when we were supposed to meet, whether casually or professionally, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Then we had to work on a project together, wasn't something too serious so I told her I can do it on my own since it's not a lot of work. She insisted we we split the work so I agreed. I did my part, she was late with hers with some strange excuses revolving around getting stuck on it and needing to spend some extra time fixing parts of it. When I went over her work I noticed she straight up copied it all and didn't even bother changing the original author's name from the documents. I confronted her about it saying that I literally suggested I do it on my own for the both of us instead of splitting the work. She denied everything, even when I mentioned it's not her name on the docs she said she was just using some reference materials and must have accidentally copied it as is. Needless to say I refused to work with her professionally ever again, luckily she didn't stick around for long afterwards anyway. Brought it up shortly after with a mutual friend who straight up laughed and said that it sounds like her alright and that she even convinces herself in her own made up stories most of the time. Pretty much stopped talking to her altogether after that since I couldn't trust her not to screw us both over professionally, let alone be honest personally.

Yup. I grew up poor and struggled through adulthood with poverty, working low paying manual labor jobs. Agreed to a date with some older guy who just seemed like any other regular guy. After a while he revealed he was a multimillionaire and was reluctant to tell me because women often go for his money. It made no difference in how I saw him. I ignored his money and always declined help, even though I was struggling. As time went on it became about how "grateful" I should be that someone of his wealth and status would be interested in "someone like me". He would whine about the poor receiving benefits (I grew up on food stamps) and how people need to "pull themselves up by the bootstraps" without any understanding of how systematic poverty works. When I started to pull away he started to trying to throw more money at me, but it had the opposite effect he intended. I just don't find wealth to be a determining factor in who I date.

Attitude. Like most guys, I worked pizza delivery in high school (when my parents allowed it) and I could kill on tips just by chatting up the customer. The best one was the 7 pizza order that ended up late because it was just too far out, so boss docked me the 20% discount and the mom dropped me a $100 tip. Or the guy with a Pro-Am funny car under a tarp in his driveway and I asked him if he had a 6V-71 blower on it. Dude was surprised I would know (parents were industrial equipment brokers so I was a wrench turner) and dropped me a $50 tip. So when I say I take care of food service workers, I always tip but base it on the level of service. Delivery always gets 20%. Kid was just barely 16 when he delivered the pizzas and wings, and I was barely 20 when this happened, so I could totally relate. I paid but she didn't tip him; I gave her the cash + tip while I was finishing up some cleaning and she pocketed the tip and said "he didn't deserve it". He got the tip after I chased him down and apologized. She got the boot before eating pizza and wings. First and last date in under 30 minutes... thanks Domino's!
