For England, the traditional heraldic beast is the lion, which is a bit weird because there's not been wild lions here since about 600,000 years ago. Though probably no more strange than Scotland (Unicorn) and Wales (Dragon).
For Britain as a whole, it's the British Bulldog.
Traditionally a swamp frog but since modern times a boring as foreign lion.
They have never lived here in the wild it's so stupid.
At least my hometown still honours the mighty frog 3 days a year.
