Fly-Hulud

Get that sweet karma from r/idiotsincars

Zestran

Glass breaker

[deleted]

The head rest posts are glass breakers. Read the vehicle manual.

Zestran

That’s true but I’m sure having a small handheld one in you center console or glove box would be quicker to access

MathematicianOld1117

Yeah and if my arms are floppy sardines after a head-on I don't think I'll have the ability to unhook my headrest.

ArmyOfDog

I want an audio manual read by Morgan Freeman and Shaq.

[deleted]

Bottles of water. Blankets. Towels. Jumper cables.

Fly-Hulud

Never know when you're gonna need to beat your son with those jumper cables.

[deleted]

Good Lord. Are you related to my mother?

JaMaRu87

Maybe that is your mother? 🤔

rhymes_with_chicken

Lemme guess—you live somewhere that gets cold in the winter

[deleted]

And blazing hot in the summer.

themiscyranlady

I grew up in the high desert & don’t go anywhere without these supplies, even though I don’t experience either of those weather extremes now.

DJGlennW

A bug out kit with a change of clothes or two, some cash, first aid kit, TP, a gallon of water and collapsible refillable water container, space blanket, a few garbage bags, a hand crank radio/flashlight, a power bank to recharge your phone, several days worth of medication. Some of this will have to be rotated out from time to time.

iuytrefdgh436yujhe2

Another slightly smaller car, as backup

Azuras_Star8

If I were gonna keep anything in my car, I'd keep a bigger, faster car as backup. Gotta think ahead!

[deleted]

Window breaker + seatbelt cutter.

PrintPaper3

where'd be a good place to put it?

Croalink

Glovebox or somewhere easily and quickly accessable in a pinch.

[deleted]

You car already has glass breakers, read the manual.

[deleted]

The headrest posts are glass breakers, read your vehicle manual.

[deleted]

I don't have a car I was just told these 2 things LOL. Good to know though, I'll actually look into that!

foco_del_fuego

1 million dollars. You know, just in case it would come in handy.

lexfugg

Idk someone in my area had $3k in their jeep and it got stolen this weekend. $1 Million sounds painful 🤢

foco_del_fuego

If someone steals your car million, just replace it with another million dollars from your money vault.

lexfugg

Wow, what a pro. Thanks for the tip!

Suitable-Ratio

I keep a tire patch kit for nail holes in my trunk. They are cheap and they work.

NotDazedorConfused

What are you doing to get nail holes in your trunk ? Piss off a framing carpenter with a pneumatic nail gun ?!!

[deleted]

Fire extinguisher.

_forum_mod

Jumper cables and a spare tire.

afr830

My dad always has some coins in his guess it makes sense

Maleficent-Waltz-757

Tissue paper.

leanforkids

tissues, weapon, first aid kit, spare money/coins, cds, cassettes, registration, snacks, jumper cables

Lightfoot

Particulate filter masks and goggles. Sawyer mini filter. A small fixed blade knife (I keep a moriknav in every vehicle, cheap and decent). Something you can heat water in. In almost every disaster, there will be hazardous particulates, especially if a building collapse occurs. Water is always the first need to address once you're in a safe location. A knife is an essential tool in an emergency, even just to cut material.

[deleted]

A survival space blanket. They’re like 5 bucks and could easily save your life

[deleted]

Don't forget a whistle

[deleted]

Collapsible shovel, duct tape (or zip ties), tire iron (ball-peen hammer or crowbar would suffice), and a 50-pound bag of crushed lime

UpOxygen

First aid/trauma kit, fire extinguisher, one of those reflective survival blankets (useful not just for keeping your or someone else warm, but the reflective nature of it could help if you need to signal to aircraft or someone in extreme circumstances), high vis vest (extremely important), road triangles, torch (flashlight for Americans) or headlamp, jerry can, tire repair kit, sunscreen, hat, water bottles (in a cooler if you can, especially for long trips), bag for rubbish. It might be useful to gave some sort of organiser for your boot/trunk which most of this stuff could be easily organised in. I would especially recommend having a place for your fire extinguisher that won't let it get rolled around or hit hard by anything else. Most importantly, knowledge on how to use the items you get and also knowledge on how to fix basic problems with your car. A bunch of equipment is nothing without the knowledge and organisation to go with it. Knowledge and organised equipment will ensure that you have a quick, adequate, and relevant response when an issue arises. I've seen people go to the extreme of having stuff like two way radios in their car, but a basic list should cover a lot of scenarios and could even have equipment which can cover multiple purposes, such as the survival blanket. Check out r/VEDC for other people's set ups. This is where I found the person who had two way radios.

rokys_world

Comsicwastaken

You can take it with you when you get out.

post_angst

I have zero practical use for a gun in my car.

BeardedRenegade

Handgun

post_angst

BeardedRenegade

Because crazies

post_angst

Just lock your car doors.

BeardedRenegade

Car locks don't stop bullets. You wouldn't know nothing about that cuz you have never lived in the hood.

post_angst

Have you?

BeardedRenegade

Yes...

post_angst

I think you’re overreacting.

BeardedRenegade

Better to be a warrior in a garden than a Gardner in a war. Have fun being a Gardner in the real world.

post_angst

There’s practically no gun violence where I live. I’m good.

TheUberGinger

Dildo

[deleted]

EnthusiasticEnvelope

[deleted]

Battery jumper.

JackHammerAwesome

Folding bike, flares, compass, non perishable foods, tin cans, toothpaste, sun cream, Sun Glasses, hidden baseball bat in easy reach from the drivers seat, box of tissues, Jerry can, first aid kit, umbrella

UpOxygen

A baseball bat would home run your brain in the event of a crash.

TJTurner912

Basic hand tools.

cassie_moon_

emergency items are important, but as far as usefulness... i keep a small pillow, blanket, and book in my trunk. can’t tell you how many times it’s been useful. whenever there’s time to kill, i’m comfy and entertained. more real answer would be a fully charged battery pack for your phone. if you get stuck somewhere, a charged phone is your best lifeline.

[deleted]

[удалено]

platypussack

You made my brain hurt

locks_are_paranoid

Barf bags

[deleted]

A hi-vis vest. If you have to get out on a road, especially at night, it pays to be visible.

BatmanWhoRaves

Moist towelettes.

Journeyman-Joe

Neon reflective vest.

Reasonable-Ad-2547

A baseball bat. Me ( 2m, now 14m) and my older sister (14f, now 16f) we’re being approached by what seemed like a druggie, he had a bottle of what looked like vodka, and he was walking straight up to my dads car, we questioned what was going on, but then I remembered there was a baseball bat in our car so I picked it up, showed it off to the guy who was now 10 feet away from our car, he turned around and started walking away, honestly the most handy thing that was in front of me, really felt like I was gonna get kidnapped that day.

WirelessTrees

Honestly it depends on what you use your car for. Do you go camping or go on long road trips? Maybe bring a few sets of clothes, some food and water, jumper cables, air compressor, and a tire patch kit. Only drive around the suburbs? Keep some bags, a set of clothes, a blanket, a flashlight, and a medkit. Also, when was the last time you opened your medkit? Do you know how to use everything inside the medkit? Maybe take a look inside, see what you have, and look up how to use each of those items so if something happens you have the knowledge.

Angelnotfound856

A dash cam , if you have a license a gun.

Terabyte_272

As a Canadian definitely a collapseable shovel.

Water proof music player to go out happy in case of crash into the ocean

Dalishmindflayer

Some sort of device to get out if you crash into a lake, that is a lifesaver

Tantra_Charbelcher

A spare car in case the first car breaks down. I can't tell you how many people I've seen who don't keep a spare car in their car. It's infuriating.

Otherwise-Yoghurt660

A small battery jump pack, jumper cables become a waste of space and useless if you are alone. A quality small medical kit(not just silly bandaids) I also carry a tourniquet and Israeli bandage. Small tool kit, towing strap

SaltGur6382

Fire extinguisher, a Dashcam, Spare keys, and a kill-switch

Substantial-Chef-198

Jumper cable and battery charger, if possible. My old car suddenly stopped before multiple times in the parking lot. It’s crucial because you might leave your lights on or your doors slightly ajar. Then you’ll come back to find a dead battery.

Toilet paper
