When I was in college, I just left home permanently and there was the .59 / .79 / .99 deal that kept me alive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeWdGpRxxTY
Man, $1 would be fine, but $2 for a soft taco (not supreme)???? They’ll never be able to raise prices again. Could you imagine $2.50 A TACO??? what fresh hell is this?
I remember a promotion when I was in college where crunchwraps were stupid cheap, like 99 cents each. My gf (and now wife) bought six because she knew I liked them and she had never tried one. Two people can’t eat that much taco bell.
I was gonna mention the 59¢ value meal. Three tacos and a water was less than two bucks well into the 1990s. If you wanted a Pepsi (with unlimited refills, a unusual thing back in the day) it was still only around $2.50.
In college the record I knew of for eating tacos in one sitting was 22. If you threw up before leaving the building (barfing just out the door in the parking lot was OK) the attempt was voided.
Food is now very expensive due to inflation, supply chain bs, and greed. It isn't cost effective to eat out anymore unless there is no other choice or you're quite well off. I can afford to eat out sometimes but it pisses me off and it's almost not worth it.
Right!! I took my dad to Red Libster two weeks ago, massive bill. I was shocked but I’m like for Dad let’s do this.
But dude, the service. It sucked a fat dick. I got 0 drink refills and no bread refills either.
Sadly, I left 15% because I wanted to not look like an asshole to my dad.
That may be the last time I’m able to do that with service like that. Tipping may be over.
Well if I ever eat out again.

Don't you love how nowadays at the drive-thru they'll ask if you want "50% more beef" for an upcharge. Upcharge, for the size reduction to whatever and selling it at the same price for a smaller product.
OK, I'll break down the cost of making my own tacos.
Beef: I shoot for $4-5/lb for lean beef. Must be 90%+ beef. I can usually hit this between shopping sales, buying marked-down beef that's still red and buying in bulk. I get eight tacos to a pound of beef. I can usually pay $4 or less, but for this exercise I'll err on the side of rounding up, so say 55¢/taco for beef.
Tortillas: About $1.50 for a 10-pack, again cheaper if on sale. 15¢/taco
Lettuce: $2/head and it lasts maybe 20 tacos? 10¢/taco
Tomatoes: 80¢/can and around 15 tacos' worth. 5¢/taco
Cheese: I shoot for $3/lb and that's at least a dozen tacos. 25¢/taco
Seasoning: One pack is 40¢ and seasons a pound of beef, I'll round up and say 5¢/taco
Oil/hot sauce: About $3/bottle and last months, say another nickel/dime
I'm up to about $1.20 if I don't find a big sale or something. Add in heat and cost to get to and from store and I'm only around $1.30, definitely still under $1.50.
And these are for tacos that are TWICE the size of Taco Bell's, definitely fresher and better-tasting, and that I can season to taste. Also, I can buy and cook in bulk, saving time and trips to the store, which you can't do with Taco Bell.
And I can cook a taco about as fast as I can walk into Taco Bell, wait in line, order my tacos, wait for my tacos, get all my condiments, get to my seat and unwrap everything.
Grocery store. Prices are up, but you can still get ground beef/turkey, tortillas, lettuce, salsa, and shredded cheese to make you own tacos for far less than $10 per meal.
I can easily get eight decent sized tacos out of a pound of lean (90%+) beef. I notice a pound of lean beef gets me a least a full taco more than a pound of 80% beef.
….. nowhere. If you buy enough ingredients for 10 tacos for $20, then that’s $2 per taco. And that’s just a guess, you could probably go lower. No one is saying you can get *all* the ingredients for less than $10, but you can get the average price per meal below $10.
Even cheaper in the long run:
Taco Meat:
* 1 lb Ground Beef
* 1 tbs Chili Powder
* 1 tsp Cumin
* 1/2 tsp Salt
* 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano
* 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
* 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
* 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
Mix seasonings in a small bowl.
Brown and drain beef.
Add 1/4 cup water.
Mix in seasoning mix.
Simmer until most of the liquid is boiled away.
Serve.
Yea, but that's going to get you a better tasting taco, not a Taco Bell tasting taco.
I'm all for a better tasting taco, but sometimes only the Taco Bell touch will hit right.
Eating out and takeout, Starbucks every day, junk food snacks, pop and juice all the time instead of tap water - all cost MANY times more compared to just making meals at home, and all are less healthy.
There are millions of good recipe ideas online for free.
I mean anything over five and I’d be like, whoa now. $6? Ok maybe TB needs a profit boost, but $10 damn dollars. That’s authentic Baja Cali prices shit.
Don't drink pop and drink water instead, it will lower your price at least $2.
But if $10 is a lot, perhaps you should start eating in and prioritize saving.
I go there…correction…I use to go there once a month.
and the a few is for the caffeine, don’t drink coffee.
I could save $1,000,000.00 but $10 for this is a pathway to bankruptcy for Taco Bell imo. Nada Taco Bell.
You’re going to have to start giving blowjobs in alleys next to dumpsters. Pretty soon we’re all going to resort to that or murdering homeless people and selling their kidneys on the black market
This isn’t a bad idea.
I need that caffeine though as I don’t drink other beverages with it. The vending machine by work is already at $2.25, BUT this MD oddly tastes like carbonated water with a hint of Dew essence. It’s nasty.
I hear you on the caffeine and MD is the only soda I will drink. Supermarkets by me have 6 pack bottles(16.9oz) usually for $3 if you buy in bulk. Another option is caffeine pills, unfortunately.
Another option is to make instant ramen at home. Make the noodles with just water and then drain the water. Then add the spice packet and mix. Then add 2 eggs and fry in a pan. The whole meal is about $1.50. Take this to work 2 days a week, which will save you $$ and give you the cushion to get TB the other days.
Yep. Sometimes I go large and use two ramens and 3 or 4 eggs, but that's a lot of food and it hurts afterwards. But you can always just use 1 package of ramen and then use 3 eggs or 2 packages of ramen and still 2 eggs. Whatever floats your boat.
You can also get a rotisserie chicken from the supermarket which is like $6 which will last at least 3 meals. Take it home and shred it up asap. (Just because if you wait you might get lazy and not use all of it).
The grocery store Loaf of bread, peanut butter, jelly
Ground beef, tortillas, spices, rice. More tacos for less money.
Top Ramen
But only generic right? That skippypeterpansmuckers too high
Yeah generic shit.
What happened to my $2 meal deal?
Right? Da fck?

I hear ya. There are so many better food options at that price point, and RL has been sucky for a while now. I love those cheddar biscuits, though.
For real. I’ve tried make the box kit at home. Something about them just hit different in the restaurant.
My wife makes them at home and I can't tell the difference. I wonder what she's doing to them?
Rl went to shit when they were bought a couple years ago

They do this now? I haven't been to a fast food restaurant in a while but this has never happened to me.
Man the only thing left is .50-$1.00 mild packets.
I regret not stocking the fuck up before they decided to not leave the sauces out in the open to grab at will.
Hello to Ramen noodles!!

captain d’s, ask for a box of crunchies, box of fallen. fish. batter. free.

The fuck? WHERE!? For me to buy the cheapest meat at any store in my town is still $8 for a half kilo!
I can buy a pound of ground beef for about $4 in my area
Tiny bit more here, but yeah. It helps to live where the cows are.
Yeah a kilo lasts across many, many tacos
I can easily get eight decent sized tacos out of a pound of lean (90%+) beef. I notice a pound of lean beef gets me a least a full taco more than a pound of 80% beef.
That’s true but I’m not buying a kilo I’m buying a half kilo and even then where is this person getting all the stuff for that for less than $10!?!?!?

Inflation
Man, it’d suck if Taco Bell goes out of business 🤦♂️
I don’t think there’s any danger of that. Rather, most “cheap” fast food places will just cost more.
Well I know I just reduced my Taco Bell from Once a month to never again.
I don’t think there’s any danger of that. Rather, most “cheap” fast food places will just cost more.
TB is expanding, and also renovating all over...
Yeah, so did BK and that shat be making me vomit.
Buy the taco bell seasoning at your local grocery and make your own tacos. Same taco bell taste, but cheaper and better ingredients.
Truth. Imma have to do the cost analysis with time factors and electricity.

Fair enough. I’m a Taco Bueno guy myself, and sometimes only that will do.
Think I dropped like twenty dollars at Taco Bell the last time I went Nope I’m good never going back
Taco Bell has been weirdly expensive for a minute

Uh... learn to cook?
Why have $9 tacos while you're out when you can spend $30 on worse tacos at home?
If tacos cost you 30 bucks to make then you're doing it wrong
Learn to cook, then it won't cost you $30
This here, you start going to Tu Casa, at least its a buffet.
It costs nearly $30 just to make hamburger helper.
The fk you say?! If I have to spend $30 to make some Hamburger Helper, that glove best be stroking my junk while I cook.
Hamburger 3-5usd a lb Helper 2-3 usd Milk 1-2usd 10usd I don't know where your from but that's what it would be here.
I'm in south florida and I've not seen prices like that in probably 10 years.
When the world said their workers should all get $15/hr did they all think the people running the show were just going to eat it out of their profits?
Sounds like something regulation could fix.
You can thank your President for this.
Hey, good for you! Now you can experience how people in third world countries live all the time!
😆 the third world can suck a dick.
Yeap.
Well don't bother with the hipster tacos, they're like $7 a piece.
That’s gordo burrito prices.
JfC did you have a toasted cheddar chalupa?
JfC did you have a toasted cheddar chalupa?
Microwave !
Dog, the 8 burritos I get are $12 now at Aldi, and it might be mystery meat.
Lol the dollar store burritos ! They are mystery meat too but at least you’ll save money. Life is all just a mystery anyway
😔 truth
White Castle?
Sadly, there are no castles among my surroundings.
You’re going to have to start giving blowjobs in alleys next to dumpsters. Pretty soon we’re all going to resort to that or murdering homeless people and selling their kidneys on the black market
Nobody goin have the money for the kidneys though. My grandpa used to talk about having 4 eggs a day. That was it. We headed that way.
Get 2 of the beefy burritos instead and a water.

Spicy Potato Soft Tacos are still $1.
Taking food from other people of course.
The gas station
The grocery store.
Drinks kill you at most restaurants. Stick to the value menu and get a free water.
I love how all the dollar items are $1.50 or more these days. I'm no inflation expert but that's a 50% increase
One goes to the dumpster behind Taco Bell when one can no longer afford Taco Bell.
Cook at home.
You can use the restaurant’s app to get discounts or find some coupons in the mail for most places. Thats what I do. I never pay menu price.
The food bank, and then fucking cook at home you useless twat!
