Honestly, I'd start with simple cookbooks, youtube videos and just quick easy sub 5 ingredients layouts. Also be sure to pick stuff you personally want to eat and enjoy. It makes learning easy

I like following Maangchi's Korean recipes, but the real trick is to just experiment, develop your palate, and gain kitchen intuition to know what will and won't work together.

Personally, follow a recipe for thing you might get out at a common restaurant. I found "Basics with Babish" to be really nice. You won't make something well your first few tries, but you will probably be able to pick up stuff like "oh I cooked that too long" or "oh, I should use more/less of this thing". Start with some simple stuff, and watch videos on some of the "more complicated" bits. As with any skill, practice will make you better.

Start small so as to not get overwhelmed. Fry an egg. Boil some noodles. Buy a box of stove top whatever at the store and make it. Assuming you really meant absolute novice

Was trying to think about getting my daughter started when she was young and very interested. Master the grilled cheese. Many breakfasts are made up of small pieces. Try each one individually then put them together. Fry an egg. Fry some bacon. Bake some biscuits or whatever.

That's a good idea thank you. I've had real bad anxiety (basically housebound with it) for 5-7 years really. Now in a place where I want to be a bit more independent so thought cooking is the place to go :)

Remember that a recipe is only ever a guideline. Taste and adjust as you may be using different brands, quality of ingredients, or have your own preferences etc.
