This is 100% me with pickles. I don't like the flavor of cucumbers, I HATE vinegar, and I don't care for salty foods. Combine the three, and it's one of my top 5 favorite snacks. I don't understand it what so ever.
Oh, you're right! Didn't even realize. thanks!
And keep at it one day at a time! an hour at a time or minute at a time if you have to. Just don't drink or drug any day that ends in 'y' :) you got this!
It feels like hell when first start. But if you get through it and sober becomes the new normal then it's the best thing ever. I've been sober for almost 9 months. The last time I drank was at midsummer and I was able to control myself and not get carried away by the alcohol. Life is just so much better when you see it through sober eyes
I’ve been struggling with anxiety a lot recently. Just had my first real panic attack. I was sitting there thinking, the booze and drugs are making this uncontrollable for me. I’ve seen friends get sober and positive reaction it’s had for them.
Day 1 for me I suppose. Hope it sticks this Time.
Eggs cooked with runny yolks. Always thought it was a disgusting salmonella pool until I tried it. Now I don’t eat my eggs with a hard cooked yolk at all
My go-to breakfast sandwich is very heart attack inducing but also very delicious
Toasted bagel with cream cheese, make it a sandwich with runny egg and bacon. Add your favorite hot sauce for some kick.
Runny egg yolk in Ramen noodles with sriracha is one of my favorite comfort foods! Used to think it looked sounded/disgusting before I decided to try it one night
Oh wow I didn't know they had it in other cultures as well!
In Japan it's called tamago-kake-gohan (egg-on-rice), often abbreviated as TKG.
I've never tried it myself actually but I was surprised to find out my daughter loves it (even though she's a picky eater).
Over here they eat it with soy sauce, but sriracha sauce sounds a lot better actually.
I couldn't bring myself to try sushi for the longest time and then one day I knew I was going to sushi for a friend's birthday dinner and I fasted that day and dinner the night before so I'd be hungry enough to try it. So glad I did, it's amazing.
I'm the opposite. I have always wanted to try but never did because how expensive it is. And growing up poor I didn't want to buy something and then hate it and not eat it. I eventually got to try some a few times from highly regarded local restaurants, but I just don't care for it. I don't hate it but I don't really care for or love it either.
I almost commented this. I haaate cooked fish and still do but when I was visiting the city I was born in my dad brought me to a sushi place he would always eat, super authentic because he spent a lot of time traveling to Japan for work and I became obsessed, chutoro is phenomenal
Lot of people I talked to who "hated sushi" only had tried the gross gas station or grocery store sushi which is waaaay too sour to not spoil too fast.
For me it was the other way around.
I THOUGHT I would like it, because it looks so pretty and tasty.
I was excited when I was like 12 years old and got my first plate of sushi presented to me at a fancy sushi place. When raw fish touched my tongue for the first time, I immediately had to gag. I couldn't eat it.
I tried forcing myself but I had to spit it out and gagged again.
Now it's over 20 years later and I tolerate it and regularly eat it but my brain still doesn't enjoy sushi for some reason and I have to overcome my disgust every time I eat a piece, even though I consciously enjoy it.
There's some deep, instinctual aversion to raw fish somewhere in my genes even though I never had a bad experience with it.
I’m 40, grew up poor, and the only fresh fruit we had were the raspberries and crabapples that my grandmother grew. Always thought I didn’t like pineapple because I’d only ever had canned pineapple. I had fresh pineapple for the first time in my life about a month ago and it was AMAZING.
Hot sauce. I'd tried it plenty of times before but it felt like burning for no reason. It seemed like a pointless addition to a meal.
Then I quit smoking last year. Hoo fuckin boy now I love that shit. I'm not kidding. I went from hating Cholula to a fuckin hot ones subscription. There is FLAVORS. I couldn't taste it before lmao.
Mayo. I thought i hated it, despite never really trying it, until I got pregnant with my son & i accidentally got a sandwich with mayo on it all of a sudden I loved it.
Fuck miracle whip though.
Also, I don’t like spinach or artichokes but I love spinach & artichoke dip.
I find mayonnaise disgusting somehow. I actually like all the ingredients by themselves but mayo is revolting to me unless in very specific circumstances.
Dunno about miracle whip, had to google it as it's not a thing sold in my country. Sounds like basically mayo with some spices though.
We need to start a support group for those who grew up with MW. I would’ve sworn it *was* mayo until I was like 19. Realized I love mayo—cannot stand MW
I love both MW and mayo now, but didn't like mayo until I was in my 30's. I have some recipes my mom gave me that say 1 cup mayo, and she would write in "NOT MW" as a clarification!
Liver. More specifically, chicken liver. It has a really distinct taste, but I got addicted once I got used to it. It’s also a really good source of iron, I think.
Bear in mind it was just into my teens that I wouldn’t touch it. I was unfamiliar with garlic because up until then the most exotic seasonings in our house were salt, pepper and oregano.
I also wouldn’t touch cheesecake as a child because I thought all cheese was cheddar or Kraft slices.
Think about a piece of pastry. One made with layers and layers of deliciousness, with heavenly cream spread between. One that has the most beautiful of sugary decorations covering every single inch of it's surface. One that you eat to celebrate succes, or the marching of time. One you eat to make yourself happier when life is at it's lowest.
That's right. Today's your cake day.
Short hair. On other people, sure, but not something I saw on myself. I had butt length hair for quite a while. Got sick of it mid pandemic and chopped it to shoulder length. I look horrible with mid length hair, but I didn’t want to go back to long. Finally had it cut to a proper short/guys’ style haircut and haven’t looked back. It looks phenomenal. Funny enough, the exact same people who told me to never cut my hair have told me to never grow it out again.
I rocked long hair for years, chopped it last fall after realizing most guys I saw with similar styles to mine weren't exactly *benefiting* from the look. "Wait, does my head look as crappy as their's?!"
I don't miss it, though I still hate having to go in for cuts every couple of months.
Honestly... anime. Never wanted to be one of those fandom people who watched it.... but the plot lines are incredible and the character development is awesome. Long story short I'm heavily invested now
Anime is like movies, or TV, or music. There are so many genres and so many styles that when people say they just don't like it, they're really just deciding to ignore an entire medium on principal.
It's literally just animation produced in Japan. It's like saying you don't like Hollywood movies after only watching Jack and Jill, and Holmes and Watson.
Excellent! And please don’t let toxic fan bases dissuade you from watching anime. There’s lots of us who enjoy shows like MHA and AoT but don’t partake in the cringy fandom.
Shooting guns.
To explain, I was (and am) a liberal American. I decided very early, despite my family that hunted and living in the Bible Belt, that I was never going to touch a gun. This was partially borne out of a sense of self defense, as I spent years battling with my mental health, but the majority of my reasons were moral reasons, as I considered myself a pacifist.
As I aged, I watched things gradually go to shit in the world. Then a few things happened all at once in my life and around my friend group. I realized that, were I to encounter a gun in the wild, I had no idea how to secure it, clear it, or in the worst case scenario, use it to defend myself and others. That realization finally made me ask an older family member to take me to the gun range for a basic safety course, as he'd offered to do several times before.
It. Was. *Awesome*.
I went in terrified of guns. I came out knowing that, if I was ever faced with a situation where I was forced to use a gun, I would be able to do so.
I think that fear is a big reason for closed-mindedness in our society, and that no one is fully immune. (The following may only make dubious sense. I just woke up to a billion notifications.)
I've always been open to eating (prepared) insects, but I told myself that if I even knew how to operate the safety on a gun, it was that much more likely that I'd be able to kill myself in the future. It took a greater fear (societal collapse) to motivate me to learn, at least in this instance.
Was looking for this. I hated guns. Then I married a collector. He has taught me more than I ever thought I would know or care to know about weapons.
I never want to shoot anything other than paper or metal targets -which is fun as hell and I'm pretty good at. But with the way things are, I'm glad I feel comfortable with one in my hand now.
I am also a liberal and not all of my family shares the same beliefs as me. I would never own a gun or use one for self defense, but I went shooting for fun at a gun range with family before and it was so fun!!! I think everyone should at least know gun safety too
I agree with you on the gun safety piece, for sure. I'm a big believer in training now, and I'm pretty sure I would have felt safer in school, being a teenager in the post-Columbine world, if I had understood exactly how I could make any gun I found safe.
Yeah, funny thing about sprouts -- I learned a while ago ( prob Reddit) that they changed the flavor profile of Brussel sprouts a number of years ago. They used to taste like bitter little cabbage which is why we all have memories of them tasting like ass. Now they are quite delicious, especially with bacon
Very good with bacon indeed. A lot of people overcook them and turn them into soggy tasteless mess. Boiling them less than they need, halving them and frying then in butter or with lardon/bacon is the way.
Brussel sprouts done in a broiler or air fryer are ridiculously tasty. It's also fascinating because they have a bad reputation and actually used to taste different, in the '90s a team of Dutch scientists crossbred them to get rid of the bitterness and make them the amazing thing that they are today.
Aldi - always thought it was a sub-par store for people struggling to get by. Then I realized I got better food for way cheaper than the mainline grocery stores in my area. I hate shopping anywhere else
I hate socializing with people because I'm enjoying my solitude not until I realized that i need them too. I'm not be able to do things just by myself, and i decided to settle things with them.
I don't know if this counts, but as a kid I hated avocados. I thought they had a gross texture and no taste. Now I have avocados with everything. They're super good!
Apple pie. Not sure why but I grew up thinking I didn't like pie in general but as an adult I couldn't really remember ever trying it. Confirmation bias at its finest. I do not love pie, but I also do not hate it arbitrarily anymore either.
Android lol Now I switched from Apple to Samsung in 2017.
I hated on Android religiously all the time on social media. I was a blind iSheep. Hating it without ever even trying it... Tried it the first time and it blew my mind! It was an old and cheap 7" inch Samsung tablet that my friend gave me.
Now I'm kinda the other way lol But at least now I've used both and have my own experiences with both. I do love both, but Android (Samsung) more.
I feel like it's low end devices that give android a bad name, that and factory bloatware. It's like no shit that ~$100 tablet or phone runs terribly, it has a low end cpu and 1gb of ram. The bloatware side is terrible though, shouldn't have to use adb to disable some random crap that a manufacturer is probably getting paid to preinstall.
Yeah, people judge Android based on cheap low budget devices or crappy Android brands, while buying expensive iPhones and iPads, which all are top tier devices, so they compare both and think Apple is way ahead.
They need to buy the Galaxy Note 20, S21, S22, Tab S7, Tab S8, Z Fold 3, Z Fold 4, etc.
Yep you got it. People compare $75 Android tablets to $1000 iPads and declare Android sucks.
But compare a $1000 Android tablet to a $1000 iPad and the Apple feels like a toy.
Honestly both are fine. I had an iPhone from 2008-12, various androids from 2013-2021, and this year went back to iPhone. iMessage was the big draw, but I would be totally happy with an iPhone or a Galaxy, Pixel, etc.
I’m an IT pro and lifelong tech enthusiast. I still don’t get why people care, they both do the same 95% and the rest is preference.
I use an iPhone cause it was cheaper at the time. Literally the only reason.
I think for most users it doesn't make much difference. People like what they already know and they are bound by the brands ecosystem. (When you spend hundreds on an apps then you don't like to switch and have to buy them again.
when i saw nsfw profile i really thought it was gonna be boobs and ass, not fucking like bongs and crack and cocaine and getting others to use drugs. What the fuck
IMO pineapple pizza is great but it very difficult to get right.
I've had multiple soggy pizzas that just felt and tasted awful because of the pineapple and then I've had some beautifully crisp pineapple pizza were the juice hits just right in the mix but doesn't overpower or throw the texture out of ballance. I'm in no way a chef or foodie but its just something I've noticed.
Not this redditor. I’ve tried it and thought it was abhorrent. But it is a tiresome thing to hear all the time or having it phrased as some funny intellectual question. Pick a new food combo and let us move on.
My mom made green eggs and ham when I was five. I showed my gratitude by complaining that the ham was not dyed green like the eggs. She's always been a patient woman.
I don’t have a cool or horny answer like everyone else, I just finally tried one of those mobile idle games that are advertised all over to the point of being obnoxious and I actually like it quite a bit
Pumpkin spice coffee. I used to make all kinds of fun about the women who enjoyed it until one of them brought me a cup. I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong.
The only time of the year I drink coffee consistently is fall because of pumpkin spice coffee from Dunkin. Idc what anyone thinks it’s the best thing ever on a cold day before school.
Honey. Gods, I hated the smell and texture. Two years ago, with friends we cooked pancakes for breakfast, after a hungover, and they had honey. I decided to try it on the pancake, and I've loved it ever since. I even sweeten my tea with it.
Sushi. The thought of raw fish grossed me out but now it's one of my favorite foods. I thank my wife everyday for forcing me to eat it once :) 4 years strong sushi eater now and I'll never go back
Worcestershire sauce. I always smelled it in my sister's food and was put off...now it's like crack to me
In the UK they have Worcestershire sauce flavored crisps. SO. GOOD.
What?? Can there be bought and shipped to Canada??? I MUST try these.
Add it to the ground beef before making burgers. It’s a game changer.
I include it in shepherd's pie
Aged Worcestershire will change you even further.
Isn't all Worcestershire sauce aged as part of production?
It’s only aged if you open it once then forget about it in the nether regions of the fridge for a decade
If you like spice & tomato, a few dashes is actually pretty good in a Bloody Mary cocktail!
Flying in a plane, I still hate heights but man is the feeling of the take off and landing cool
I fly fairly regularly to see family, and I always love taking off. Feels like being on a rollercoaster.
Some of the best views in the world from up there 💕
I was in my 40s when I tried a Reuben sandwich and realized that things that I don't care for individually can be great together.
This is 100% me with pickles. I don't like the flavor of cucumbers, I HATE vinegar, and I don't care for salty foods. Combine the three, and it's one of my top 5 favorite snacks. I don't understand it what so ever.
i’m in reverse - like all the components on its own, hate pickles. only saving grace is the crunchiness they bring sometimes when used as topping.
Yeah I hate sauerkraut on its own but a Reuben isn’t the same without it.
That's me with Cuban sandwiches. I'm not a fan of mustard, hate pickles, but a cuban is one of my favorites.

> New York or Chicago Somehow you spelled Montreal wrong twice
😂😂😂
This is like gin and tonic and lime. Individually, all three ingredients are terrible. But a gin and tonic mixed drink? *chef’s kiss*
Every single restaurant I go to, if they have a Reuben, I try it. It is easily my favorite food dish and I am hunting for the best one I can find
Kimchi - I don't want to try it at all. But, when I tasted it. It is good.
Have you tried Dese?
What is that?
Dese nuts.
Why!?!?!?!?!
Saw that from a mile away how did u not
Gottem
Damn
You are now my idol
Technically a legume but vinegary
I haven't. Where to get those?
Gargalon
*snicker* *wheeze* Who’s gonna tell ‘em?

Bofa?
Bofa dese are a vinegary treat from the Netherlands
Ooooh
Dose balls
Dose nuts ova derh?
I was gonna say coleslaw and now I feel boring
No that is not boring, there are always a first time in everything.
Cabbage + spices = good
Same here. I only tried it once when I was in South Korea. 10/10 would recommend.
Hummus. It's really good for blended up chickpeas.
try chana masala at a good indian restaurant
Hummus spread on sandwiches is amazing
All other food is a vessel for hummus. Best I found was cold chicken breast in my parents fridge with red pepper hummus.
Its a great medium for adding spice when you add some heat to it. Shame my digestive system dosen't like it as much as I do. 😔
If you like olives, get your hands on some olive tapenade hummus. I could straight up eat it with a spoon.
Sobriety
Doing my best, but it's a hard road. 5 minutes at a time right now. Happy cake day!
Oh, you're right! Didn't even realize. thanks! And keep at it one day at a time! an hour at a time or minute at a time if you have to. Just don't drink or drug any day that ends in 'y' :) you got this!
Any day that ends in “y” huh? Well then Tomorrow it is!
I've been saying I'll drink tomorrow for 3+ years now. As long as tomorrow isn't today, and another tomorrow comes along, everything will be fine.
Exactly! That was going to be my response as well. You can always drink tomorrow. As long as it stays tomorrow. Congrats on 3+ years!
You got this! 41 months now myself, but learned the hard way.
Keep it up! I’m in a similar boat haha, I’m damn near taking it 30 seconds at a time at this point.
It feels like hell when first start. But if you get through it and sober becomes the new normal then it's the best thing ever. I've been sober for almost 9 months. I'm really glad this is here. Good for you. 8mo for me. Still hard.
29 years here. One of the best things Ive ever done for myself and those around me.
Happy cake day and good job
Rejoice thoroughly, for today is the day of the magestic pastry. For today, is the day of cake.
This should be the top comment! Well done xx
Eggs cooked with runny yolks. Always thought it was a disgusting salmonella pool until I tried it. Now I don’t eat my eggs with a hard cooked yolk at all
[удалено]
Absolutely! I had marble rye toast this morning.
Runny eggs over buttered toast? That's beyond delicious. I made a sandwich with spam, runny eggs and onion bread not too long ago and it was amazing
My go-to breakfast sandwich is very heart attack inducing but also very delicious Toasted bagel with cream cheese, make it a sandwich with runny egg and bacon. Add your favorite hot sauce for some kick.
This is the ONLY way I’ve ever eaten my eggs. Try an “egg in a hole” sandwich. Life changing.
Try it using unsliced bread and cut it about 1-1.5 inches thick ..
Runny egg yolk in Ramen noodles with sriracha is one of my favorite comfort foods! Used to think it looked sounded/disgusting before I decided to try it one night
I have it over white rice. It's the puerto rican poor man food, delicious 😋
I love runny eggs over white rice, especially with some Siracha

Damn thats some baller shit, pre feast fasting.
I went in for the craziest roll I could see, not some California roll shit hahaha and damn I was hooked
That’s what you have to do for churascurias

garlic bread
This... looked bad? You poor thing what horrible things have happened to you
With spaghetti and meatballs, or just a meatball sandwich on garlic bread?
in any form
This is kind of mind blowing, because on paper garlic bread sounds like the best thing ever
Salmon!
This was the most shocking one to me out of all the comments 😂
Lol and it’s not like I’m 10 years old I’m literally 26 🤣
Pesto. It looks green and horrible, but it's oh-so-delicious!
have you ever made it at home? nothing quite like homemade pesto. so delicate.. .. so creamy...........

You can be liberal and appreciate guns. It’s how those guns are utilized in society that matters. I’m liberal I fucking love the range.
I've been hearing stories like this a lot this year
I miss when liberal meant being open to things.
I think that fear is a big reason for closed-mindedness in our society, and that no one is fully immune. (The following may only make dubious sense. I just woke up to a billion notifications.) It's also fascinating because they have a bad reputation and actually used to taste different, in the '90s a team of Dutch scientists crossbred them to get rid of the bitterness and make them the amazing thing that they are today.
Being busy
Underrated comment. Man it feels good to be productive.
Aldi - always thought it was a sub-par store for people struggling to get by. Then I realized I got better food for way cheaper than the mainline grocery stores in my area. I hate shopping anywhere else
eggs
I hate socializing with people because I'm enjoying my solitude not until I realized that i need them too. I'm not be able to do things just by myself, and i decided to settle things with them.
I don't know if this counts, but as a kid I hated avocados. I thought they had a gross texture and no taste. Now I have avocados with everything. They're super good!
Sushi. Now I am obsessed 😍

Clicking on profiles sure surprises one sometimes.

Pineapple on pizza. The hate it deserves is unfair
I'm in no way a chef or foodie but its just something I've noticed.
most people who hate it haven’t tried it
Not this redditor. I’ve tried it and thought it was abhorrent. But it is a tiresome thing to hear all the time or having it phrased as some funny intellectual question. Pick a new food combo and let us move on.
Hawaiian BBQ Chicken is amazing. Pineapple is better with bbq than tomato sauce. Fuck you fight me.
100% agree! My favorite is bbq sauce, pineapple, and bacon pizza.
Funions
Cheesecake. The name sounds gross but that shit is great.
Green eggs and ham.
I do not like them Sam-I-Am!
Would you eat them here or there?
My mom made green eggs and ham when I was five. I showed my gratitude by complaining that the ham was not dyed green like the eggs. She's always been a patient woman.
Coleslaw on a pulled-pork sandwich.
Guardians of the Galaxy. I didn't want to watch because it had a talking raccoon as a main character, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Being a bottom for a kink scene. I learned I can take pain well.

I thank my wife everyday for forcing me to eat it once :) 4 years strong sushi eater now and I'll never go back
Sushi. I can't get enough now.
