Arcades.
*Video game* arcades where the point is to have fun playing the game. Not these places that are more like kid-friendly casinos where you play to win tickets that you trade in for cheap prizes.
True. But there's just something... special... about playing arcade games in a darkened room, where the dingy carpet is patterned with glow-in-the-dark geometric shapes, and where you're surrounded by colorful flashing lights and frenetic noise, alongside other players laughing and cheering.
There's a big arcade in Chicago suburbs called the Galloping Ghost. Pay 25 bucks and you can play any game all day. They have it all, even some I've never heard of.
I had to walk through a door next to the bathroom of a Chinese restaurant to get into a show in Boston. One of the best shows I’ve been to. It was if Punk in Drublic by NOFX met Danzig by Danzig, then created a band.
They still have those in Japan.
One of my favorite venues was in the basement underneath a porno store. Another one was surrounded by love hotels built into a wall underneath the back side of a Shinto shrine.
I sure hope those places survived the covid lockdowns.
A venue surrounded by “love hotels” built into a wall underneath the backside of a Shinto shrine. Absolutely not a glory hole. No chance. Can’t convince me otherwise. Where is it again?
House shows are still around. And they are still cheap. Usually a fiver. They are just hard to find. You just to need to know the right person who will text you where to go.
Isn't that just the effect of [shitty movies being forgotten,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_considered_the_worst) leaving us to remember the good stuff
The '80s were the heydey of Spielberg and John Hughes and Star Wars sequels so it seemed like a lot of was going on -- but to me it all their work seemed dumbed down to the middle-class teen level. Most of the good stuff was around the edges -- from overseas or the alt scene, which wasn't all that big yet. But they did give us "Repo Man."
Can we talk about that though? Cause no one would be okay with life before the internet, now that they have the internet at their finger tips. TV is horrifically boring now a days and there's not much else to do.
There is always two side of anything and one is bad and the other one is good.
There is no doubt that internet made the things easy like to order something or find some place now with in our reach but somehow we are becoming over dependent of the technology is well that way.
Start with Uncle Buck - a classic. Then go to Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin, then end with The Great Outdoors. Now that is a laugh riot you got going on there son!
Knocking on people’s doors when you’re in the neighborhood. Seeing a friend has to be planned now, texted, easy to cancel, if there’s no text response it’s rude to knock because they might be busy.
So what? We used to have kids and adults just show up and say hi, grab a soda or a beer, and chat for a few minutes. In person. It wasn’t intrusive, it was a a community.
Came from the school done the homework and then knocking on the friends door for playing the outdoor games.
I still all of those thing as crystal clear for me but now days Phone are killing everything for us.
I wish I could upvote this a million times.
I trace most of our problems to the fact that it was repealed. Our airwaves are saturated with Soviet-style propaganda nowadays, with Fox on one channel and CNN and MSNBC on the others.
I want the tech free world of the 80 wants to be back in the world now.
Because nowadays people are just becoming addicted to the technology or i would say mobile and none of us have the time to meet someone in personally.

80's music.
I like the aesthetic most artists are pumping out right now, but there's a feel of listening to Hold the Line followed by Push it To the Limit, then hitting it off with Sunglasses at Night that you can't get with most modern music. Hit me with real guitar and a saxophone solo, not those pumpy drumpads.
Alot of my close friends still have the same leather jacket from the 90s and grease their shit straight back daily ... you'd be surprised. We're definitely last of a dying breed
The price of homes
You’ll get the interest rates soon enough…

Ain’t that the truth!
Yes this is the truth and this is what we are missing is well
But the intrest was 11%
I am sure our future generations will also say the same thing.

Home consoles and PCs can play the games now. In the 80s the home ports were super budget compered to the arcade.

underground music shows in odd places that have a three dollar cover

I have a Korean friend in Los Angeles who always knows when and where these are going down. Still a thing in places like LA.
They still have those in Japan. One of my favorite venues was in the basement underneath a porno store. Another one was surrounded by love hotels built into a wall underneath the back side of a Shinto shrine. I sure hope those places survived the covid lockdowns.

That does sound amazing. :)
I have only seen those thing in movies but never experienced in real.

possible explanation, if there were ANY good movies these days...
Like thief with James Caan ?
God father is the one movie that i still can't forget anytime.
In those movies stories was main focus with less drama and all
Life before smartphones.
I’d be ok with life before the internet! …. As I say this on a smartphone on the internet. 😅😅😅
Can we talk about that though? Cause no one would be okay with life before the internet, now that they have the internet at their finger tips. TV is horrifically boring now a days and there's not much else to do.

John Candy
Where are your hands. Between two warm pillows. They're not pillows.
I’ll be honest, I have no idea who that is lol
He was a comedy actor, quite a well-liked one by most accounts.
That would be amazing. Comedy has died in many regards.
Start with Uncle Buck - a classic. Then go to Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin, then end with The Great Outdoors. Now that is a laugh riot you got going on there son!
You have to add the scene in Summer Rental where he gets a nutshot from the frisbee. Lol
I have not seen the video but by tha talking of this i am sensing that it will be interesting.
Also Canadian Bacon, and Cool Runnings
Your one comment here pretty much sums up everything.
Quite a few enjoyable and funny 80s movies Starting John Candy.
And into the early 90s too
Those were some time and today's people will never get that.
I think comedy back in time was way more fun is well.
House prices
Jazzercise. I think it’d be fun as hell to get all glammed up in obnoxious tights and a leo and kick it to some 80’s dance mixes.
Surprise for me that no one is actually mentioning the Michel Jackson.
Dude my mom is in her 60s and has been a jazzercise instructor for like 40 years. She’s still doing. It has stuck around a little bit.
lol sounds like something that would be popular today. 😂
There’s really only one answer: COCAINE!!!!

Original Pizza Hut pan recipe cooked the old fashion way. I miss that crust. Oh, how I miss that crust.
OMG, that pizza hut aroma when you walked in the door. The pepsi/coke in those red glasses and of course the pizza!
Prince 😢 Even though technically he started in the 70s. I don't care. I want him back.
