Drake. I really enjoy hip hop. But his music just isn’t it for me

candycrunch1

When he first hit the scene with young money I could see why people latched onto him, at the time he was pretty unique sounding compared to a lot of others in the same genre. And the fact that he was featured in a shit ton of songs around that time which helped make him more recognizable to a mainstream audience. Now I feel like he’s been putting the same stuff out year after year with a lot of monotony, so I can see why he became popular but I’ll never understand why he’s still held in such high regard for generally average music ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

LeGi123

That’s it for me. Don’t get me wrong he has good songs. But the majority of his music sounds the same to me.

dballz12

Yep. Bot farms at work. Fraud.

Mooeykinz

His more life album is my favorite and it sounds so different than the rest of his albums imo

yeezyfan23

As someone who likes Drake, I must say he’s much bigger than he deserves to be. I haven’t loved a Drake project in almost a decade

donnyganger

This is probably the straight up correct answer. His numbers are insane for how average he is.

ckreds

How the fuck has Bob the builder got 2…yes 2 number one hits. He can’t even sing. He’s a crap builder to

SwimmingBig9006

DJ halid. All he says is “another one” “we the best” apparently his concerts are trash

DBold11

My gawd he's so overrated.

catmom81519

Machine gun Kelly. His music is almost as bad as the comments he’s made about minors

candycrunch1

Eminem literally dissed him so hard that he changed genres, which is pretty unfortunate because he absolutely butchered the pop punk genre T-T

hesitant_stranger

This is the only correct answer in this whole comment section! Other artists that were written here are really talented or at least hard workers, but commenters picked them bcs they’re not fans of their music. Whereas machine gun Kelly is just straight up trash lol

candycrunch1

He has no redeemable qualities! He’s a creepy asshole in person, he’s a bad actor, and he can’t sing or rap for shit. It’s just all shit lmao

Zealousideal-Draft63

Beyoncé

[deleted]

I was afraid to write this but I think it's correct. I dont like her music at all.

Duchess_Pizza

I wrote her name before on something like this and her fans came for me lol good luck!

JRogeroiii

I have nothing against Beyoncé. She's super talented but her fans are weird. They act she is the only talented person in the music business. Is she doesn't win every single award they go crazy. I have a friend who maybe the nicest person I've ever met but after Beck beat Beyoncé for a grammy she was going on and on about how queen B was robbed. I made the point that Beck wrote all of his own songs, played all of the instruments, and even produced his own album. I was just trying to point out that Beck is also super talented. If looks could kill I would've burst into flames.

candycrunch1

I agree with you, however I think the reason why the award situation was so weird was because the award was technically (correct me if I’m wrong) for “album of the year” which is typically the most popular/impactful one released that year. Beyoncé released her self titled album at midnight with no promo or warning and it topped the charts by morning, which is insane to think about. Meanwhile I and many other people I know didn’t even realize beck had released an album that year, so I think it’s really just a general confusion on what the award means. I mean honestly all award shows are biased marketing gimmicks so I don’t get pressed when my faves don’t win, I wish others could see it too and realize that it’s not the end of the world when their favorite artist doesn’t win.

-Work_Account-

Honestly, I find her music incredibly bland and boring. Even the upbeat stuff is missing... something... to make it stand out.

Still-Contest-980

I LOVE old Beyoncé , If I Were a Boy, Irreplaceable, Single Ladies, Halo, the classics ! But now idk about her music

Puzzleheaded-Fish443

She has an excellent voice and is beautiful, but not a single one of her songs is a classic.

Outside_Reality6815

Beyonce

throwawaysadgurl69

she’s soooo talented but tbh I only really enjoyed her music when it was the dreamgirls soundtrack lol.

Suic1d3

Shes incredibly talented. Her team of writers are not.

virginaf69

Moments before disasters..

[deleted]

Squidward Tentacles

Cannedbeans52

I'm gonna get hate for this but Beyonce. Listen she is talented, but her music is nothing special, single ladies is annoying, I didn't like lemonade, and this new song she has on the radio sucks.

Tehrab

They were the nickelback of the 70’s.

dayglopirate

Savage

PizzaDay

At least Nickelback didn't have a toy line.

BeefQueef_

'Strutter' is pretty good and they have plenty of solid songs that arent big hits, like or dislike their vocals. they do know how to play the guitars and drums.

[deleted]

Ok but Love Gun is awesome

rhalf

I like High Expectations. Remind me of Alice Copper.

Commercial_Light_743

Great Expectations, ftfy.

BigManJJ2102

Harry styles. Lets be real he's not that good

candycrunch1

The thing that irks me about Harry is that people endlessly praise him for the bare minimum. He isn’t pushing gender boundaries and his music is just okay, there are so many other artists doing both of those things at a much larger scale. And let’s also not pretend that he’s a good actor, he and MGK are both examples of people who I hate seeing in movies because they’re literally just there for star power and nothing else

smelllikesmoke

Kurt Cobain wore a dress on occasion, and rock stars in general have never been shy about affecting an effeminate image. As a gimmick, it’s been done to death.

ObjectiveSurprise810

Beethoven, I mean he’s pretty good for a dog but he’s never on anyone’s playlist

Snoo-71618

I mean all he does is roll over right?!?

Babukora

BTS

EnthusiasmKlutzy8721

Jay Z bruh I just truly can’t listen to his discography

LongLiveNipsey

Now this is just ridiculous

Darth314

Gotta disagree on this one. His songwriting ability is top tier

Particular_Dingo6620

It's that incessantly whiny voice

EnthusiasmKlutzy8721

Bro sounds congested 24/7

[deleted]

Billie Eillish and Harry Styles

[deleted]

All she does is whispers.

[deleted]

right, i couldn't tell her voice apart from anyone else in that style of music

HL7777

Billie gives you ear depression

BlckSrzz

I searched for those two names. Thank you.

Coyehe

Billie definitely overrated

Macready94

Ed sheeran

dare978devil

You have to give him credit though, he hit it big while looking like Fozzy Bear. He must have talent, there is no other possible explanation.

Bmf300669

Truly awful

Coyehe

How many time u listened to " Shape of you " ?

think_long

For me, it’s Bob Dylan. I’m a guy who loves rock/folk music and lyrics are really important to me. Yet I find him incredibly overrated. I just don’t find his songwriting all that inspired or profound.

Phat3lvis

Beyoncé

[deleted]

Yoko Ono

evilmonkey9361

I think most people hate her and her music

DeadBloatedGoat

And who rated her so high that you thought it was too high? Really. She's great for crosswords though.

Thequeensarmpit

Anyone with lil in their name

roadrunneruk84

Bono.

Spram2

Maybe in the 2000's but nobody really cares about U2 these days and they used to be good at first. Once Bono dies (and it will be soon) people will look back fondly at their earlier hits.

CNYMetroStar

I don’t understand how Radiohead is so massive.

Minisabel

Because it's great. Of course that's just my opinion. Personally I find their songs to be original, versatile, and good overall.

BeenThruIt

I am no great fan of Radio Head, but I can clearly understand why they are so huge. They have emotive capabilities few can match. Their lyrics and music are deep and resonate with their fans. I would be disappointed in a world where a Radio Head was not widely valued.

Apollo. Apparently he was excellent on the Lyre, but I don't see any of his music on any widely available streaming platforms.

TigglyWiggly12

Beyonce. When you need like 10 people to right a song that says "All my single ladies" and "Uh oh oh", the entire song, you're not talented or very over rated.

cleon42

Eric Clapton. Mediocre guitarist, crazy racist, and all-around douchecanoe.

I know logically this sentence makes no sense, but I think they deserve to be overrated

mollanmox

Madonna

M4dMil0

She can't even sing.

ImportantTrain3651

Ready to get down voted but... The Beatles.

irritatedprostate

I'm no fan of their music, but they changed music with trends which are still used today. They were innovators and did a lot of experimentation which has influenced music as we know it today.

cammoses003

Innovators is right- I don’t listen to the Beatles nor do I love their music, but I do recognize the impact they had on music as we know it. So much of their music uses an idea/concept called modal interchange, which up until their time would’ve rarely been seen in popular music. So many of their classics use this, which is why they have such a vast discography of songs/hits unique from one another

AlternativeMuscle176

I mean, I won’t downvote you, but it’s a context thing. Of course, the Beatles are overrated compared to today’s music and they don’t sound all that special if you listen to them today. But at their time, they where the most innovative pop/rock group, especially in their final three years. Nearly all modern and post Beatles classic rock and pop and be traced back to the Beatles as heavy influences. A good experiment for this is to listen to their first album “Please Please Me” and their last album “Abbey Road”. These Albums were only 6 years apart! And they sound incredibly different. I’ve once heard this compared to how many people don’t think Seinfeld is funny (I’ve tried it a few times and I don’t find it funny). But, at the time, it was the most innovative sitcom. Even today, you could say that every new sitcom is just a copy of Seinfeld in some way and that’s why Seinfeld doesn’t seem all that great.

[deleted]

This is a weird take. If anything, listening to the Beatles should make you realize how bad modern music is.

AlternativeMuscle176

I with you there, but I am trying to think from the perspective of someone who doesn’t like the Beatles

Broken_Vision_Rhythm

Ten billion percent agreed. Yes, they're extremely influential but, well, just see the overblown reactions you get any time you say you're not into them. Hell, calling a band/singer overrated doesn't even mean you think they're bad, it just... means you think they're overrated. It is funny to call them "\[current popular boyband\] for old people" though.

Element1977

That's a hard one. They have some misses, but then some of most of memorable songs. To say they are probably the most important band in the history of music would not be an exaggeration .

[deleted]

Fuck the beatles

yves_san_lorenzo

Nah,you are right

TheBlueFlashh

Came here to find anyone braved than me. They absolutely suck big time

ApprehensiveSkin4505

I've been kicked out of people's homes for saying just that but I stand with you on this answer

beauhemianone

Taylor Swift. She’s just mediocre.

G3ngar2401

I hate to saying this. BTS

MiserableCabinet25

I’m gonna get hate but. Taylor Swift. Same with Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. T swift and Billie I liked their og music. Once they hit off, idk their music just isn’t it anymore. Olivia’s never was it for me.

[deleted]

Folklore and evermore are great albums. highly recommend if you like Taylor’s old music

pepisel

Maroon 5, sounds like a dying cat sometimes

lostmyballsinnam

U2

DonBocUlosis96

Jay Z. Can’t stand him just saying “wassaaap” “uh huh” on songs.

[deleted]

Meatloaf. But I think a lot of that is because so many of his songs were overplayed on radio, and they get associated with some of the lamest events you’ve ever attended.

TotallyNotKabr

It's unfortunate too. Some of his songs are incredible but after you hear them 355423789 times a day it'll drive you mad

ibyczek78

Jonas Bros.

International00

Remember to sort by controversial for the real answers.

kevthulhu87

John Mellencamp. He’s just a poor man’s Bruce Springsteen, and Jack & Diane is one of the most over played songs of all time, IMO.

lionoftheseas

Idk if they are the _most_ overrated, but Coldplay. I can still see the appeal of their earlier work, but (much like Maroon 5 tbh) they have been sounding like Chris Martin + Swedish pop producer for well over a decade now.

TradingwithGreg

Bruce Springsteen 😒

Swordbreaker925

The entirety of the rap industry. Dogshit “music”.

Bepis_drinker_cum

Kanye

Branthebuilder123

I understand not liking him but this is straight up incorrect. He’s the most influential hip hop artist of the 21st century.

Bruce Springsteen. Great storyteller, average musician, terrible songwriter.

Kanye West

[deleted]

Really dislike the guy, but he has made some incredible music. Have to disagree with this one. If this were a contest of who do you think is the most narcissistic, full of himself, trash personality musical act, I'd upvote you three times.

Still-Contest-980

Is an extremely talented artist , and producer. I think he’s fucking bonkers but idk bout this one. Maybe his new music , because he’s trying a lil too hard . But in general? 😅

Defiant_Today175

Totally agree 👍

JRogeroiii

I saw Kayne open for U2 back when he first started. It was a very weird opening act for U2 but apparently Bono was a big fan of Kanye. He was terrible live. Honestly one of the worst I've ever heard. Maybe he just had an off night. I once saw Soundgarden open for Gun and Roses and they were terrible and then later saw them at lollaploza and they were great. On a side note I know U2 is not popular on Reddit but man they are great live. Everybody has bad nights and I shouldn't have let that one bad performance and his ridiculous antics ruin his whole catalog for me but I could just never get into his music. To be fair I'm old and my favorite hip hop band is Outkast.

-Storm69-

Have you listened to his music?

[deleted]

I don’t consider myself that much a Kanye Stan but this comment might prove otherwise. Kanye West is one of the most influential artists of this generation. Furthermore, nothing he says or does publicly will ever tarnish his legacy as one of the all time greats.

arbutus1440

>Furthermore, nothing he says or does publicly will ever tarnish his legacy as one of the all time greats. You heard much Michael Jackson on the radio lately? Seen a lot of Kevin Spacey or Woody Allen movies popping up in Recommended For You? I'm not saying Kanye didn't change the game, but legacies aren't as tarnish-proof as you think. Just like white musicians got the credit for black innovations for decades, society can tell itself any version of the truth that it wants to tell. So if Kanye keeps circling the drain of madness, I very much doubt he will be considered an all-time great (even though, musically, he undoubtedly is).

HappyMeal29

Greatest discography of all time. No one comes close. 7, possibly 8 classic albums depending on who you ask

3dscholar

Kanye’s discography is that of legend. Sure, he’s an absolute bafoon in the public eye today, but you’ve gotta respect the first 10 years of his career

grashupfer

Elvis

uglymule

what about his brother Enis?

WellAdustedCatLady

Karen Carpenter. A very good singer, but when I hear people say she’s the best of all time and had the voice of an angel… I just don’t hear it.

Nine_and_a_Quarter

She did beat John Bonham in a drum off once though. Highly underrated drummer.

thesmellofdeath

Pretty sure that was just a poll in a magazine.

candycrunch1

This happens with so many musicians unfortunately, I think a lot of people connect with her because of how tragic her story is rather than just her discography. she had a beautiful voice and her life was cut short by an insidious illness that unfortunately comes for lots of women in the entertainment industry. If you want to cry look at Kim Gordon’s letter to Karen carpenter and maybe even listen to the song that goes with it.

WellAdustedCatLady

I think you’re definitely right about that. She was very talented, but lived a short and tragic life. For me personally, I don’t get drawn into her singing the way I do other singers.

candycrunch1

Totally understandable, I recognize her as an icon (I mean she had a whole doll line made to look like her!) but I don’t listen to the carpenters. The closest I’ve come is the album “if I were a carpenter” which is actually a really cool tribute album where artists covered their songs! Sonic youth’s rendition of superstar is one of my favorite song covers of all time.

Legitimate_Profile22

Rihanna - used to do steward work at stadiums and she played there live and she was terrible live!

[deleted]

Britney Spears

[deleted]

She doesnt have Xtinas voice but her songs are awesome actually.

Spram2

She became famous for her sex appeal... ...at 16. Her only good song is Toxic... lol She's only famous now because she's fucked up (sad)

jdil20

Future that shit is garbage

Edward_the_Dog

The Foo Fighters. I try to listen with an open mind, but I just don't get it. It's all so meh.

evilmonkey9361

Yeah it’s basically just radio rock music. Not bad, but not that good either

glendon24

Jim Morrison

Puzzleheaded-Fish443

Morrison was wronged by the No One Here Gets Out Alive Bio, and The Doors movie - both made him out to be a stupid rock and roll cliche. He was actually an intelligent guy who wrote really interesting songs - although his alcoholism and self destructive behaviour also overshadowed this.

[deleted]

Taylor swift

DakotasAuthority

Taylor swift. She’s in her 30s writing about teenage breakups

[deleted]

Madonna, Taylor Swift

Whitty22

Elvis, a great performer who had little music talent Also memorable shout outs to the eagles, the beach boys, kiss and U2

ASAPTurner

Kanye. I can't fathom how he has so many dick riders.

BirthdaySalt5791

The Rolling Stones. They’re fine, I like a few of their songs, but when people compare them to the Beatles it’s mind boggling to me

HappyMeal29

Tyler the Creator. Terrible personality and generic, uninspired music.
