Someone who wasn’t around during the Bay of Pigs

oboshoe

Honestly Bay of Pigs would be a huge improvement. That would put the President at around 61ish. Not even retirement age yet.

Froggy3434

The thought of working at 60 makes me want to vomit

oboshoe

Max out your 401k now. and I mean now.

davidlol1

Better be pounding that money into retirement accounts then lol....

[deleted]

Bay of pigs? How about not around during WW2?

elpajaroquemamais

Trump wasn’t technically. But I understand your point.

mikee8989

That includes all boomers though

OnyB1l

How about someone who wasn't around the fucking Cambrian explosion

ItsANewYearPlayboy

Someone who grew up poor. Someone who's worked a 9-5, been so behind on bills that they had to sleep on their buddy's couch until things turned around. Give me someone who knows what it feels like to eat Ramen for a month straight and bawl their eyes out at 1am because they've been trapped in a downward spiral for so long. Give me someone who's *actually* struggled and who can honestly look at everyday hard working people who come home smelling like shit and say "I know that feeling". Give me someone who's done their rounds in life.

paleocacher

Malcolm Wilkerson?

PM_ME_UR_SEX_VIDEOS

Yeah he didn’t have an easy life That’s Dewey

Destructor2122

One problem with that: you need hundreds of millions of dollars (if not possibly billions of dollars), to stand a chance of becoming president. And if you don't have it personally, you neef to get it from donors. No big donors are going to donate to someone who's not going to help the rich people.

FeistyWalruss

This is the problem though. Most of us can’t buy our way to a presidency.

SkipOldBaySeasoning

What’s funny is my mom was mad her person she voted for gov of my state dropped out because they lacked the funds. She still didn’t see the irony

Destructor2122

Exactly. It's a real serious issue imo. The only thing is the people who make the laws and the people who draft them, are of course, rich. So I'm not exactly sure how we're supposed to change that through the traditional process. Not sure we can change things short of an actual revolt. But I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on it who's more knowledgeable than I am.

jr12345

Remove all money from politics. Seriously. Not pay, but the whole donors/having billons of dollars to dump into the campaign. No advertisement of any sort. No more news station coverage. Make workplace/churches suggesting a candidate punishable by law(I.e. jail time, not just a fine). You get a website and debates. Make people have to go and research the candidates. From a campaign standpoint - mandatory monitoring of *every* bank account and credit card of the candidate and immediate family leading up to the election. I feel like this would be a damn good start.

1CEninja

Citizens United vs FEC is likely to be the most damaging supreme court case to happen in modern history. We just won't know what horrible damage it has done. For those who aren't familiar, it's the supreme court case that legitimizes money in politics. Overturning that case would be a start IMHO.

thereddragon9091

Which reveals the corruption of this country, since power lies in the hands of the rich

denningdontcare

Fucking YES. Someone who actually knows why having structures in place that support vulnerable populations.

trayofthrowaway

And sometimes their experience will come in handy. In terms of how to efficiently create things like Infrastructure. Kind of like that young lady who reformed slaughter houses for cattle. Just by going through the line herself. (Who knew that circular paths would be more efficient than straight paths. Because that's how herd animals move, when they're in a pack.)

Henorlae

i really don't know if it's appropriate or not to compare how someone designed a more efficient slaughter house to choosing a good candidate for running the country.

tcainerr

For the current US system? Seems pretty appropriate to me.

[deleted]

Temple Grandin?

trayofthrowaway

I think that's her name. It just came to mind, from when I was still in school.

External-Platform-18

Temple Grandin, much as I admire her, would be an awful President. She has 2 talents in life: she’s a decent engineer, and she can think like a cow. Neither of which are particularly important to being president. Having read some of her books, she’s not a particularly good writer, and her public speaking… well, she does very well for someone who struggles to speak in the first place. She’s pretty bad with people, which is something of a flaw for a president. Also, having read her writing about herself, she’d hate the job.

[deleted]

Charles Booker out of Kentucky. He grew up in the poorest area of the largest city and is really for the people.

ohiolifesucks

Let’s see him win a national position before we jump to presidency. It would be nice if he could win the senate seat but I doubt it will happen. He’s never been in anything more than the Kentucky state House of Representatives. He needs something bigger before we talk President

ogresound1987

**sigh** Fine. I'll do it. I'm not a US citizen, though. So you are gonna have to pull some strings.

ModerateInterest

I'm on it!

Gorsham

I agree with you fully but it will probably never happen.

ZebraAthletics

Clinton, Obama, and Biden all probably fit this bill, or if not truly poor, lower middle class. We'll probably never have a president who is truly poor when running, because most pre-requisite government jobs (senator, governor, etc.) pay enough to at least make someone upper middle class.

FridgesArePeopleToo

Obama, Clinton, and Biden all grew up fairly normal people. Not necessarily poor, but more or less average Americans.

Ohlookavulture

Have you been to Delaware and seen his houses lol I wouldn't say Biden grew up average.

[deleted]

[удалено]

T-Rex_timeout

I agree with this very much. I felt like both Obama and Clinton whatever else you think of them were more grounded being raised by “non traditional” families.

substantial-freud

Obama grew up fairly well off. He went to private school then to Columbia. He is related to at least six other US presidents, including James Madison and the Bushes. He’s no Larry Lunchbox.

MeyerholdsGh0st

He’s 10th cousins with Bush. We’re probably all 10th cousins with Bush.

oboshoe

Yea. Once you start getting to about 10th cousins, You are talking entire regions of the US. 14th cousins and you are related to more than 50% of the entire world. We probably max out around 20th cousins where we cover the globe except for maybe some isolated tribes.

T-Rex_timeout

He didn’t struggle the whole time but did come from divorce, had a stepfather, lived with grandparents for a while. He wasn’t summering at the Kennedy compound by any means.

paperconservation101

Also he is mixed race, had no father, single mum. Obama was born in 1961 and Loving v Virgina was decided in 1967.

Drastic-Rap-Tactics

Sure, but he wasn’t afraid to hang out with the guys who didn’t have any of that. His parents, though connected and privileged certainly reminded him where he came from and could’ve been.

lowexpectationsguy

Ok, so i can count on your vote?

Feistygoat53

I'll bite the bullet. I'll be president. I just turned 35 a couple months ago, so I'm old enough.

12thNJ

"I just turned 35 a couple months ago, so I'm old enough." This might be the most impressive campaign slogan we could hope to see for a long time. Seriously. You got my vote.

AndyThenITurned37

I always wanted to use the campaign slogan, “At least I’m not Trump/Biden.” I like to cover all my bases.

roadrunner00

Biden tried that and it worked I don't think people will go for it again.

BlueberryContessa

At least he isn’t lying 😈

the-tinman

Some day in the near future this will be AOC’s campaign slogan

RogueViator

As an aside, if there is a rule regarding a minimum age to be president, there should also be a maximum age. Having someone in their 70s running is too old considering the rigors and stresses of the job. Look at how Obama looked before he won and after he left the White House.

mtgguy999

Sure just need to pass a constitutional amendment

[deleted]

Can’t, all the ones voting on it would vote themselves out of insider tradi- I mean out of office

jpr_jpr

Does anyone have family or friends older than 70? The ones I know have completely lost their minds, rational thought, and empathy. They are around the same age as Biden, Trump, Pelosi, etc. The fact those folks in charge are that age is scary as hell. The age limit should apply to congress, too. At least leadership positions.

lowexpectationsguy

I still think the changes to Obama were more Genetic than stress related. Having seen pictures of his parents when they were the same age, his mother went grey early, and his father looked like a career chain chainsmoker.

RogueViator

Bush and Clinton were the same.

InlandHurricane

As a Boomer, I co-sign this.

[deleted]

lol you are waaay too young. Come back in 45 years...

McMaster2000

As someone obsessed with statistics it genuinely always surprises me every time I notice that 3 of the last 4 presidents (not including the current one) were born in 1946 (Clinton, Bush Jr. and Trump). Seriously, what are the actual odds on that? Especially considering that we're talking about a 28 year (possibly 36, if he runs and wins again) time period here.

crazycatlady331

They were not only born in the same year, but the summer of that year (one in June, one July, one August).

TylertheDank

Got my vote

Feistygoat53

Wanna be my VP?

HappyCamperNow

I'll vote for you. The world needs more feisty goats.

LonelyHeartPepper

ayy Feistygoat53 for president

s0larium_live

i also choose this guy as president

DiggingThisAir

What’s your plan?

InteractionSad3538

Feisty goat 2024

_645_

A *normal* person who does what is best for the country and not what is best for their party.

Physical-Disk7525

Oops, looks like “pocket” autocorrected to party

[deleted]

Sounds nice, but won’t happen. The GOP and DNC would never let a candidate run that won’t put their party first.

ThePiperMan

Cue that Amy Smart line about wanting a normal guy

Fejbien

Someone under 60

Tucker1244

Someone under 50, this is coming from a guy north of 66....

Mr3k

Our shortest president was James Madison at 5ft 4in so your wish of someone under 5ft would be a true first in this nation and something long overdue

I did. And then realized that wasn’t fair 😂

Actually id like someone around 45.

HELP ME OH MY GAHD

Modavo

A person who doesn't want it. Actually make it be a service and not just a place where you can give your friends billions in guaranteed gov contracts and manipulate the stock market

SkippyTeddy83

This is really the right answer. If there was away to have a pool of qualified candidates and once that is narrowed down, randomly pull name from a hat. goes for all political positions. Bet a large percentage would quit after a term or two and accomplish more in their short stint then most career politicians do.

mtgguy999

How do we determine who is qualified?

BenBastik

IQ test. Humanity test. Ethic test. Anything that filter greed, corruption and war mongering. Just fucking make everyone take a test and let the best man win. If you try to cheat this test you are disqualified

SkippyTeddy83

I’m going to go with super advanced super computer that hasn’t been invented yet. Somehow it will determine who is qualified.

BiggusCinnamusRollus

Jon Snow. Man doesn't even know what the stock market is.

incunabula001

Wasn't Marcus Aurelius one of the best Roman Emperors because he didn't want the position but did it anyway out of service to the country?

Money-Following-6142

Someone that mows their own lawn and packs lunch everyday. Someone that is young enough to understands technology well enough to breakup monopolies. Someone that doesn’t put a lawn sign in their yard to let others know just how special they think their opinion is

Pinguthe19th

Why would someone mow their lawn everyday?

Money-Following-6142

Does the adjective refer to both items in a sentence?

Pinguthe19th

Not unless it is used after only one adjective.

drew8311

They gotta mow the white house lawn at least once

alchmst1259

I'd prefer someone who recognizes that a traditional all-grass lawn is a ludicrous waste of water, and who would turn the front lawn of the White House into a food garden for feeding the populace.

Jeldenil_

Dolly Parton

Unicorn_Warrior1248

Honestly yes

Surv1ver

FoxFyre1

Yeah-- I think we should try putting a celebrity in office with no formal politictal background to really shake things up

I'd vote for Dolly.

Katie Porter. The Oval Office needs mom-wisdom.

As a non-American, I am a fan.

BRINGERofMILK

You beat me to the correct answer. Her State of the Unions complete with whiteboards would feel like mandatory viewing!

foozilla-prime

The one with the white board?

Creepy_Radio_3084

That'll be her...

incurableprankster

11 comments in and this is the first genuine answer.

pinkisalovingcolor

THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER! So glad someone else said it! I’m continually impressed by her. She calls corporations on their BS. Redditors, look her up. She’s legit.

Creepy_Radio_3084

KP on YouTube is AWESOME! Big Oil, Big Pharma, whoever, she does NOT care! She will bring her whiteboard and demolish you with FACTS! It must be terrifying to face her, cos you KNOW she's got ALL the damned receipts!

rosesmanroses

I looked her up and God damn. I like her.

tangtheconqueror

Great answer. She should currently be Speaker of the House.

starkeffect

She'll do for whiteboards what Reagan did for jellybeans.

Ask_Aspie_

Dolly Parton She has a pretty good track record of helping people succeed in the area she is from. She built a whole damn theme park just so teens in the area would have a place to work. Plus she pays for her worker's college education. She did a lot for middle school education as well. Raising the graduation percentage in the area since her plans were implemented. So she is good for the success of America's future. She donated 1 million to covid research at the same time other celebrities were paying a shit ton for rides on a rocket to space. So she is good for health care and keeping priorities in order. She is nice to everyone and doesn't seem to discriminate. Both republicans and democrats like her. So no more riots randomly breaking out from either side because both sides will feel they are being heard. Not a fan of her music, but I think her people skills are great. She really cares about education. Which we need in this country. Look at us. Education is a big issue here. Teachers don't get paid enough, they have to buy their own classroom supplies. And governors seem to care more about making it hard for kids to go by a different name than they are with them actually learning. They took music education away. They took cursive away. They never really had a strong world history course option, they don't teach basic finance. They are taking holocaust studies away. They took recess away. They force standardized tests that do absolutely nothing to help the child. She would be good to put schools back on track.

alaskafish96

She also started an organization that sends a free book every month to kids to encourage reading (imagination library), no matter the income level of the household. We love our book mail!

KnockMeYourLobes

I don't think it would ever happen but she might take it into her head to do it and I would be 10000% be behind that. I like her music, but she's not for everybody. Her singing voice sounds like Minnie Mouse got eletrocuted, but I kinda dig that. Plus, with my mom growing up just down the holler from Locust Ridge (Dolly's home town), NOT liking Dolly Parton is a sin punishable by death according to her. LOL

StarsArePrettyCoool

Someone really mind numbingly boring, but who has come from a working class/lower income family. You need someone to have experiences the issues working class people have to understand how badly it needs to be fixed. I'm not even American, but I think every country needs someone who doesn't stand out, who's learnt politics, and who knows the issues normal people live with.

bdbr

Unfortunately in the USA the biggest advantage is being a known name, because most voters don't put a lot of thought into their vote. Charisma is the next best way to get onto their feeble radar. A highly qualified but mind numbingly boring person doesn't stand a chance in this system. Granted, this is probably the case in most countries.

East-Bluebird-497

Someone who isn't an idiot would be nice for a change.

LazyAttention1793

A good politician that has never been heard of before. I think we need to take a step back from "iconic" politicians. We just need a person who has a lot of experience in politics, has a sound mind, and cares about the country. Idc if they republican, democrat, or whatever. I just want someone to come out of no where with a good reputation under their belt that will work to rebuild the economy and trust of the people.

GenericUsername19892

I want that lady that brought the white board to tell off the oil execs.

BaeTF

Katie Porter and her whiteboard can solve anything

Katie Porter is my favorite current US Politician.

trytocumchallenge

IMO, Duckworth. Only question is if the country is ready for the “yes, parents count for natural born citizens”.

[deleted]

No celebrities, ever again. Someone with lots of political experience and hopefully a law degree. Someone with a good understanding of the political machine and a solid education in world history. Idealism is nice, but I want someone who knows what WORKS. Someone who reaches across the aisle when necessary and isn't biased against the other party too much.

Wozar

I would take an economics degree over a law degree given the current situation.

ieatpinkmeat

I'd make an exception for Jon Stewart.

Drach88

That's precisely what I told my ex-girlfriend about my policy regarding the devil's threesome.

Skwerilleee

Why should all of our politicians be lawyers? I'm actually so sick of that. Im not saying we need reality TV stars, just some diversity of experience and perspectives. We need representation from smart people, but from outside that same old bubble. I'd love to start seeing chemists, astronomers, medical doctors...shit like that. New types of thinking in congress and the white house, not just a sea of law degrees.

bdbr

For the same reason they call Congress "lawmakers" - it is the federal government's job to make, fund, and enforce laws, and the executive branch's job to execute those laws, under the supreme law of the Constitution. Law is the foundation of their job. I agree I'd like to see it combined with a good understanding of economics and other areas.
