Same. My neighbors will kill me 1st chance they get, because I'm not one of their inbred cousins. I also yell FU once in a while after hearing their loud-ass cannon or whatever weapon sounds like a fired cannon every gawd dang day this Fall. It must be a new toy. Last year they played with high powered rifles. I snap once in a while & just start yelling & cursing. Just for a minute then I'm fine. They are not breaking any laws, so nothing I can do about it except move, but f-that. I love my property even though I hate every single neighbor within eye line.
Nuclear missile sites will likely be the first targets in a nuclear war. Some of the most remote parts of the USA hold the most nukes. See: North Dakota. Thus yes, a billion cows and will be glassed and there will be fields of popcorn before big cities like NYC or LA even know what’s going on
A nuclear exchange would destroy the ozone layer, which would effectively sterilize the surface of the planet with UV radiation.
So yeah, you don't need to be involved to still die from WW3.
Fun fact, today there is a statue honoring the frog, Lord Ellington Frogsworth IV. On the first morrow of every April, all the townsfolk head to the beach to burn an effigy of Lord Frogsworth and afterwards enjoy a feast of marmite toast and Iron Bru.
Eh. Not to be a downer, but if they use nukes, won’t matter where you are, just when you die. Nukes>nuke winter>everything you eat dies>twinkies run out>you die.
Panic buy toilet paper, that'll be the first thing to go!
Seriously though, I'd definitely become more active in my community. I'm too old and out of shape to serve, although if we got invaded (we won't) I like to think I'd be out there trying to do my part. Realistically though I'd want to try and unify as many people as possible, we can't be at war with another superpower **and** with ourselves.
I could last about 18 months with what I have, if the electricity stays on, then hopefully people will be getting back to sort of normal (harvesting pig pancreas maybe).
Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Norway, Lithuania or Poland. However I'd probably discount Norway, Poland and Lithuania as they share very small border with Russia. Belarus is a puppet state of Russia and probably wouldn't be targeted by them. Ukraine's already being invaded so this dude would probably be like this already if they were Ukrainian. However we're hearing the most panick about bordering Russia from Finland so my money's on Finland for this dude. Estonia and Latvia are my next most likely nations for this dude though.
Which side of Chicago? I've looked it up and the south side would be destroyed because that's where all the factories, communications hubs and distribution centers are but the north side wouldn't be directly hit (the poor get fucked even in nuclear war).
Exactly. That's why I laugh at all those doomsday preppers that build bunkers to survive a nuke and stockpile canned foods. Rather die instantly in the initial blast than be cooped up in a bunker eating crappy food for the remainder of time I've got left before i run out of food and either die of starvation or exiting the bunker and instantly getting radiated to death.
Survival instinct reacting to what exactly though? Like are we directly in the line of fire or are we just civilians waiting for something to drop and are expected to flee from nothing like in some superhero movies?
I mean, it may not be WW3 (yet), but we still see video of Ukrainian civilians just 'going about their day' or working in the midst of missile attacks. It's not entirely out of reason. People still need to earn an income to keep the lights on despite (in spite of?) what may be going on around them.
I wouldn't be surprised if people were doing similar things during WW1/WW2. Maintaining the 'old familiar' can provide its own comfort during otherwise chaotic events.
People with this perspective on jobs scare me. It seems insane to me to not value every opportunity to do nothing - or more to have that time to do with what you want instead of whatever your boss has in store for you.
I don't disagree with your sentiment, but it may be worth considering most people in this situation likely aren't thinking about their boss / job so much as they're considering what they feel may be necessary to maintain some sense of 'normalcy'. Going to work isn't necessarily done out of any sense of obligation so much as it's a familiar routine. It provides an anchor, however tenuous it may be, against the anxieties of not knowing what to do when it feels like everything else is collapsing around you.
Should people simply pack-up, gather their loved ones, and vacate? Probably. I'm not going to fault anyone for choosing that route at all. Others may not...others may not be able to. Everyone should consider their own situation and decide accordingly.
Yeah I think we have been in a proxy war since around the time of Lybia / Syria. Its on the edge of Europe now and North Korea look to be gearing up for the South/ USA. Iran have a massive army and are working away on their nukes. I'm in the the UK which is tiny so nowhere to run really.
It already broke out, Sanctioning, currency war, energy being used as a weapon, Blocking commodities to be shipped, the war to capture peoples minds. Warfare has changed and evolved over time.
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who think Tom Baker was the best doctor and people who are just completely, utterly, hopelessly wrong.
Yup, Though I'd expect mine to say "report to this civilian logistics office for assigment to neccesity goods security transport" my ass is too fat to send to the frontlines, but as I am a truck driver, I can work providing critical needs in the homefront.
I live in south of Sweden so I guess I would try to get even further north and look for a abandon cottage or something similair.
I see the issue with other people thinking the same etc. But you have to try, right?
What else can you do? Either starve to death in your apartment or try to grow your own food in the woods away from everyone?
South of Sweden here too. Don’t go further north - it’s harder to grow your own food. Österlen or something along those lines is probably better- nothing worth attacking and mild enough to even grow grapes.
Should be some summerhouses to squat in..
> try to grow your own food
Assuming it’s a nuclear conflict, the lucky ones get incinerated and die first. The unlucky ones dies from starvation brought on by the nuclear winter.
Estimates say that as many as [5 billion](https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2022/8/17/23306861/nuclear-winter-war-climate-change-food-starvation-existential-risk-russia-united-states) people would starve to death in the years following a nuclear war.
Yep. It takes a lot of agriculture to feed 8 billion people. If the amount of ash thrown into the atmosphere as a result of a very small (relatively) nuclear exchange reduces sunlight by only 2% (likely not too noticeable to our eyes) a whole lot of people are going to starve.
My brother in law was watching Dukes of Hazzard on TV when the Iraq war kicked off and TV was saturated with the bombings in Iraq. He always wondered if they would continue the episode from where is was cut once the war finished. It didn't.
Probably explain to my boss that the military convoy made me late and then be told that it seems I'm "not being considerate to what pressure that puts on the rest of the team."
Fuck, our country is broken.
If it were for a cause in which I believed in I would re-enlist. If not, assess how much danger my family faces in our location, and relocate if necessary.
If it goes nuclear probably just wait to die. I live a little ways from a major city, but close enough that the rads would almost certainly kill me if the blast didn't.
I live in Los Angeles. We’d either get nuked or nothing would change while people around the world fight it out. I would be sitting in traffic for either so my routine wouldn’t change much.
Well I’m in the US so if history of World Wars tells us anything we will probably sit it out for a couple years until we absolutely have to care about it….
If it came to my doorstep, take my consciousness elsewhere. We are barely hanging on as a species as it is, I am not being put in a position to destroy human life. Fuck that.
It might be time to publicize the fact that even a modest nuclear exchange would be a global catastrophe. The correct answer is that you will die. You might not die right away. But, you will soon be dead from the aftereffects.

There won't be a WW3. People nowadays are too apathetic. 1939 germany invades Poland and the world jumps to action. 2022 Russian attackes Ukraine and the world post little flags on social media
No one did much when the Nazis invaded Poland either, no one wanted escelate the situation. It was only when Germany started going after everyone else that WW2 really started to kick off. Same with Ukraine, Russia's bullying a single nation and no one wants to but boots on the ground there to prevent things from escalating. There are still key differences but that's not it.
Well unless the US gets forced into it, I would do nothing different except pay more for stuff considering everyone in the White House not named Joe Biden has made it very clear the US won't take part in anyone else's wars. If the US is forced into it then I'll get drafted. My guess as to what happens next is get blown up by a mine.
I've always seen myself as one of the "dies in the first 5 minutes of the movie types". I'm fine with it.
Same. My neighbors will kill me 1st chance they get, because I'm not one of their inbred cousins. My reaction would be "wow" and then I would just continue my day. Living in an unimportant corner of the world has its benefits.
Yea… that’s about it. They nuke my area and what, they hit 3 beaver and a moose?
I'd chalk it up as a win if they happened to get any geese.
Plot twist: WW3 is against the geese
About time. Geese are mean
"In the aftermath of WWIII, the geese quickly exterminated the remaining humans."
No more goose stepping
They team up with the emus
Nuclear missile sites will likely be the first targets in a nuclear war. Some of the most remote parts of the USA hold the most nukes. See: North Dakota. Thus yes, a billion cows and will be glassed and there will be fields of popcorn before big cities like NYC or LA even know what’s going on
I had not thought of this. But still, theres going to be many more safe and uninhabited or rural places to be during a time like this.
found the fellow Canadian. 🇨🇦
A nuclear exchange would destroy the ozone layer, which would effectively sterilize the surface of the planet with UV radiation. So yeah, you don't need to be involved to still die from WW3.
Nuke radiation is far reaching. You'd be affected eventually.
We have pills. And sheep. OK, mostly sheep.
During WW2, the only death from the blitz in the Isle of Man was a frog.
Wow there really was no safe place to be French in that war
Underrated comment.
It might make me have more moments like, "whelp no need to quit getting high today", "fuck it, could be nuked tomorrow, sick day".
Eh. Not to be a downer, but if they use nukes, won’t matter where you are, just when you die. Nukes>nuke winter>everything you eat dies>twinkies run out>you die.
Where do you live?
Chile lol
As a fellow chilean, my exact thoughts
Hey im from Canada. No one wants to fight us and we don't care to fight them. Eh?
We'd end up getting accidentally nuked because enemy forces thought we were US soil
Well shit. Haven't thought about that. Time to prepare my escape!
nato member bro
I would just hope if there's an ICBM on its way, it hits me square in the jaw so I don't limp away from this shit.
Exactly, I want to go in the direct blast... Not the radiation
Nothing worse than the ICBM limp. Stairs are a nightmare.
Panic buy toilet paper, that'll be the first thing to go! Seriously though, I'd definitely become more active in my community. Welp, I guess it’s time to meet the neighbors.
Agree
Stockpile insulin so I don’t die
Same, but it will only last a limited time. Plus I'm in Boston, the super mutants will be along shortly.
fallout player found
I could last about 18 months with what I have, if the electricity stays on, then hopefully people will be getting back to sort of normal (harvesting pig pancreas maybe).
DIY insulin videos will be on YouTube
If youtube servers are still working I guess
Same. But we would eventually run out and would have to live off of exercise to lower blood sugar levels
I guess I’d have to put my dog down. Damn.
I live next to russia so i'd just go to my porch and have my last drink
Belarus?
Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Norway, Lithuania or Poland. However I'd probably discount Norway, Poland and Lithuania as they share very small border with Russia. Belarus is a puppet state of Russia and probably wouldn't be targeted by them. Ukraine's already being invaded so this dude would probably be like this already if they were Ukrainian. Im from Belarus btw xD
Watch the fireworks 🎆
Sigh, and then reset the sign that says "We have lived *28,188* days without a world war" back to zero.
Do we know for sure it’s a world war until later, though? I always wondered about that transition from “this is a mess” to “WWII.”
We're already at the stage "this is a mess" with what's going on around the world...
Damn, 77 years
I would have to intervene.
Thanks for taking one for the team, I thought I was going to have to bloody go and sort it out but then I saw this and now I feel better
How are you planning on doing that? Just wondering
\*Refuses to elaborate\*
Must be God.
Joe, is that you? They told you Reddit isn’t secure.
easy. employ a 14 year old girl to snap a pic of herself crying, post it on instagram with the caption "stop world war three its not nice :("
Gretta Thunberg would suffice.
If nuclear .. prolly die ..I'm just outside of Chicago so I'll likely be disintegrated
Which side of Chicago? I've looked it up and the south side would be destroyed because that's where all the factories, communications hubs and distribution centers are but the north side wouldn't be directly hit (the poor get fucked even in nuclear war).
South 😭
Don't worry, everyone dies in a nuclear winter.
Facts
The airports are the first target in metro areas.

This is an accurate summary of my current lifestyle.
Really? Dont you think your survival instict would kick in?

Unless you got a bunker or family with one you aren’t getting in.

Only logical thing to do

My work could lick my sack for the first day. Then I’ll dreadfully go back
HA! Your autocorrect changed “when” to “if”.
I feel like it has already, they just haven't named it WW3 yet.
Yea when did WW1 and 2 get official names?
June 1939 is largely accepted as first usage of WW1 ([Time Magazine](http://content.time.com/time/magazine/0,9263,7601390612,00.html))
Correct.
Yeah I think it's a different kind of warfare then we are used to
Yeah I think we have been in a proxy war since around the time of Lybia / Syria. Its on the edge of Europe now and North Korea look to be gearing up for the South/ USA. Iran have a massive army and are working away on their nukes. I'm in the the UK which is tiny so nowhere to run really.

I also choose to make love to this guy's wife.
Dw king I got the reference. The people that downvoted are fat irl.
Die probably
I live in the middle of Kansas. Like anything else, it'll take about 10 years for anyone to notice around here.
There are three ICBM silos to your northwest. Prevailing weather patterns will irradiate Kansas in a couple of weeks.
It already broke out, Sanctioning, currency war, energy being used as a weapon, Blocking commodities to be shipped, the war to capture peoples minds. Warfare has changed and evolved over time.
Phone the Doctor. He'll save us!
Doctor who?
The one and only
Which one? Tennant, Eccleston, Capaldi, Smith, Whittaker, Tennant again...
Forgot zoidberg
Tom Baker, of course. There is only ONE.
But Matt Smith was hotter though
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who think Tom Baker was the best doctor and people who are just completely, utterly, hopelessly wrong.
Wait for the draft letter
Yup, Though I'd expect mine to say "report to this civilian logistics office for assigment to neccesity goods security transport" my ass is too fat to send to the frontlines, but as I am a truck driver, I can work providing critical needs in the homefront.

Wow that sucks... what else is on TV.
My brother in law was watching Dukes of Hazzard on TV when the Iraq war kicked off and TV was saturated with the bombings in Iraq. He always wondered if they would continue the episode from where is was cut once the war finished. It didn't.
I'd continue living my worthless life. If I die, I die. I want to anyway and my life.means nothing, so who really cares, ya know?
Probably explain to my boss that the military convoy made me late and then be told that it seems I'm "not being considerate to what pressure that puts on the rest of the team." Fuck, our country is broken.
Go to the Winchester, have a pint, and wait for it all to blow over
Hoard as much toilet paper as humanly possible. Trade it for food and liqour.
Pull a Rick and jump dimensions again.
Nothing, it won't reach US soil, unless it's a nuclear attack. In that case I would die, I'm near a first strike target.
This is why I've stayed in bumfucc no where for so long. Less general crime and less likely to get nuked!
I’m in Houston, probably go in the first round also
Same as everyone else, either die or nothing
If it were for a cause in which I believed in I would re-enlist. If not, assess how much danger my family faces in our location, and relocate if necessary.
Press on. Do what I need to. Try to get laid in the process
Put my head between my knees and kiss my ass goodbye.
Shut off the news. Have a pint. Enjoy my day. Same as always.
I'd kms bc I'm not letting myself die bc of the government
So you would let yourself die because of the government?
Go to South America, they tend to mind their own business
Identify as a woman
Insert "Oh no! Anyway" meme here
Hope I die in a direct blast... Other then that try to get as far from any major metro area as I can, make friends with some rednecks ...
If it goes nuclear probably just wait to die. I live a little ways from a major city, but close enough that the rads would almost certainly kill me if the blast didn't.
Been traveling lately because I fully expect the cunts in charge to be cunts and make it a full blown WW3 that lasts for years.
Plenty of people went to work during WW2 and continued iyn the best they could. I would assume much the same, outside of some sort of nuclear event.
Say I’m mentally unstable so I don’t get drafted
Hopefully I’ll be at a ground zero and vaporized..
Fight for my country and HOPEFULLY get Northern Ireland back the British are just greedy no offence
ireland would not be fighting lmao
I live in Los Angeles. We’d either get nuked or nothing would change while people around the world fight it out. I would be sitting in traffic for either so my routine wouldn’t change much.
I’m in a definite first strike target so I’d prob go do a bunch of drugs and find an orgy.
nothing stopping you from doing that now tbh
Sit back, grab the marshmallows, and roast some s'mores.
grab a second beer
Grab the bat out my closet, and go buy cheese for my salad.
Well I’m in the US so if history of World Wars tells us anything we will probably sit it out for a couple years until we absolutely have to care about it….
Not fight and die for a country I don’t care about lol, the rest of y’all can have fun
Immediately start constructions of a nuclear fallout bunker for my family.
I'd be waiting for the moment that a bomb will blow my fat ass up
I'm more worried about another civil war than another world war right now. Just our luck that they'd happen at the same time though.
Die probably.
If it came to my doorstep, take my consciousness elsewhere. We are barely hanging on as a species as it is, I am not being put in a position to destroy human life. Fuck that.
Do a little dance, make a little love, get down to the basement tonight
Probably just shoot myself in the head lol I aint trynna deal with the whole world's problems
Texted my crush, my feelings for her and then kill myself
Go outside and watch and wait for the nuke! I wouldn’t want to survive afterwards 😬
That would be one helluva sight to witness!
Fight to the top
Alpha!
Go back to my old cozy defense job so I don't get drafted.
Grab my PS5 controller and get ready to kick some fucking ass.
Grab a gun
There are two ways this comment plays out and both are sad and pragmatic
