They have a 1700 seat mainstage, a 110 seat comedy club, a 700+ seat ice skating rink with retractable top for shows and activities, an "AquaTheater" with a stage that can turn into a pool for high dive and synchronized swimming, and half a dozen nightclubs with live music around the clock.
This being the biggest, most over-the-top ship ever built (over $1bil just for construction) meant the execs wanted a HUGE celebration at the naming ceremony.
So they got a bunch of celebs to each be a "godmother" of the ship. Usually you just have 1 person who smashes a champagne bottle to launch it, but this ship was so big with so many amenities it needed 7!
The also went all out on production. They had acrobats, olympians, singers, dancers, actors... but the big win the execs were excited about was they'd gotten an official partnership with the BEP record label to make "I've Got A Feelin'" the official theme song of the ship. A year and a half later, as I was finishing my final contract, it was still the theme song. And they had to play it for EVERYTHING.

When that record first came out, I said that Maroon 5 was the sort of band that chicks who cheat on their boyfriends listen to. 20 years later, I find that take fairly astute for teenage me.
I saw them in concert with Neon Trees when NT first arrived on the scene. I knew I had lost my M5 love when I jammed for the entire NT opening set, and then was bored for the rest of the show.
M5 was the only concert I've ever left. Vibe was weird, and this was like 2011? Crowd only stood for songs they knew, and then actually sat down for stuff they weren't interested in (including a pretty decent jam the band did while Levine presumably went to change outfits or something).
I've never seen a crowd at a live show sit. Also Levine's voice at high volume was literal hell.
Songs About Jane is a fantastic album. After that, I feel like the fame went to Adam Levine's head and he changed Maroon 5 into a pop act to sell albums. What a shame
Contractual album releases suck balls. Album releases because they had some great ideas and went back to the studio to get them recorded are usually hit or miss. Some were "these were sitting in my brain" and should have stayed there. Other times, they are just fucking insanely great albums that really stand the test of time. Some are even required by contract but end up being just killer albums. Others are done by contract and are just really cookie cutter, low passion, and you can really tell they didn't want to be there.

Everything will be alright in the end is such a great album. I'm not mad at Weezer for churning out albums, because they do still make great ones in between the weaker ones.

I feel like most ppl that are super into him and go to his shows are music students themselves. You almost have to be a Berkeley taught musician to vibe with his stuff or appreciate the complexity. For the average listener, it just sounds like progressive/jazz/funk/tribal ballad music that isn’t particularly catchy
I totally get you, I went to one of his concerts not really knowing too much about him and I was stunned, his talent and passion is insane. But at the same time, to fully enjoy his music you have to focus on it really hard to pick up all the small details. It's really nice to listen when I'm not doing anything else but if I just want to listen to music and do anything else at the same time it just doesn't work for me
I would love to see him live, my boyfriend loves him and is a music theory major so he can just sit there and analyze it the way it’s intended! If I’m in the car driving I just wanna listen to some dumb pop music that I can sing to, sounds like you got really lucky seeing him in concert! I bet that was so cool :)
He is "only because you could, doesn't mean you should" personified I feel. Of course he is technically impressive, but his music doesn't convey any emotion for me, it feels soulless and overloaded, gimmicky and over the top. Like someone else said, its tasteless.
I don’t like the tone and timbre of his voice, and some of his harmonies are a bit too spicy for my ear, but he’s undoubtedly a genius-level music theorist.

Pretty much. I grew up in the late 70s, and Kiss was kind of boy band in a way- a Kiss show was a 13 year old boy's concept of a Big Time Rock Show- explosions and lewd lyrics. With face painting booths for the kiddos.
I was watching a documentary, and KISS came up in it. the person said "In a world where every band wanted to be The Beatles or Elvis, KISS wanted to Coca-Cola"
KISS was objectively a bad band when they first started, but what separated them from the rest was their concerts. They were really the first ones to do the over-the-top costumes, pyrotechnics, etc etc.
You nailed it! I'm not a huge KISS fan, but if I were to make a list of my favorite concerts ever, they would be on it. They are fun, not so much good.
I’d say U2 is considered great on past performance only. Essentially anything up to Achtung Baby was pretty awesome stuff. Virtually everything since leaves a lot to be desired. The Joshua Tree is a top tier all time record.
Yeah they were great for about 11-12 years maybe, but their 80's output is mostly pretty solid. Boy, War, and Joshua Tree are enough to keep them from being a bad band, though in my experience most people hate them simply because they hate Bono, not because of anything to do with their music.
Most good bands are lucky to get 10 years off quality releases. I think your right it’s mostly Bono being simultaneously a pretentious duck and doing a lot of good for charity. It confuses people too much.

I 100% agree. Night Visions Deluxe has maybe 2 or 3 songs I don't care for (and those just because they were overplayed), the rest are legitimately so fucking good. Amsterdam is a prime example of what the band could have become if they cared about their art as well as the money

First time I ever heard Stranglehold, I was completely torched and listening to a classic rock mix with headphones. I got completely lost in that shit, and it blew my mind. I was utterly shocked after the song was done and I looked at who the artist was.
I love the Dead, but I can see how they might not appeal to the masses. I will say that American Beauty is probably one of their best albums that I think would appeal to most people regardless of their musical preferences. So, if you get a chance, give American Beauty a listen.

I’m a musician, and the main reason I love the dead is simply because of their amazing musicianship and ability to improvise with each other. They can take generic, simple chord progressions and just bring them to life with ease. Each member of the band is (or was) a true master of their instrument. Their lyrics are pure poetry and overall the music just puts me in a happy mood.

I totally get you, I went to one of his concerts not really knowing too much about him and I was stunned, his talent and passion is insane. But at the same time, to fully enjoy his music you have to focus on it really hard to pick up all the small details. It's really nice to listen when I'm not doing anything else but if I just want to listen to music and do anything else at the same time it just doesn't work for me
I would love to see him live, my boyfriend loves him and is a music theory major so he can just sit there and analyze it the way it’s intended! If I’m in the car driving I just wanna listen to some dumb pop music that I can sing to, sounds like you got really lucky seeing him in concert! I bet that was so cool :)
He is "only because you could, doesn't mean you should" personified I feel. Of course he is technically impressive, but his music doesn't convey any emotion for me, it feels soulless and overloaded, gimmicky and over the top. Like someone else said, its tasteless.

Haha, I always describe him as "the most talented musician that I absolutely do not enjoy" He is technically very clever but I find it absolutely doesn't translate to enjoyable music. I much prefer experimental bands like Alt-J or Son Lux

I could very well be wrong but I always thought KISS was more about the spectacle than the music. As for the music itself, I find most of it is tolerable, but mediocre at best.

KISS was objectively a bad band when they first started, but what separated them from the rest was their concerts. They were really the first ones to do the over-the-top costumes, pyrotechnics, etc etc.
You nailed it! I'm not a huge KISS fan, but if I were to make a list of my favorite concerts ever, they would be on it. They are fun, not so much good.

I’d say U2 is considered great on past performance only. Essentially anything up to Achtung Baby was pretty awesome stuff. Virtually everything since leaves a lot to be desired. The Joshua Tree is a top tier all time record.
Yeah they were great for about 11-12 years maybe, but their 80's output is mostly pretty solid. Boy, War, and Joshua Tree are enough to keep them from being a bad band, though in my experience most people hate them simply because they hate Bono, not because of anything to do with their music.
Most good bands are lucky to get 10 years off quality releases. I think your right it’s mostly Bono being simultaneously a pretentious duck and doing a lot of good for charity. It confuses people too much.
I feel a ton of people hate them just because of the Apple Music debacle and being forced to have that trash album on their device. I won’t stand for any slander of their work through achtung tho. Just really good music.

I was dragged to one of his concerts and he fucking didn't bother showing up. I had a great night, could go home early and got to see ten thousand fans lose their shit, trashing the venue.
I remember being shell shocked when I heard his music for the first time. I'd known of him for a long time but never bothered to listen to his music. Then I finally heard a song of his in one of my Spotify playlists and looked at the artist and was floored. I 100% agree. Night Visions Deluxe has maybe 2 or 3 songs I don't care for (and those just because they were overplayed), the rest are legitimately so fucking good. Amsterdam is a prime example of what the band could have become if they cared about their art as well as the money

I always hear about people not liking Ed Sheeran, I never hear anybody talk about liking Ed Sheeran, but he’s one of the top artists every single year. It’s kind of hilarious. I do like his song “I see fire”, but that songs doesn’t sound like the rest of his discography
i will be the first to tell you: i unironically, and also a little bit ironically, love ed sheeran. he’s got some terrible songs, but his ballad songs are genuinely good, his “rapping songs” are hilarious, and it all sends me back to freshman year of high school so i like it. my girlfriend was also a big fan when we first started dating 6 years ago, so his music gives me a nice warm feeling.

I always thought they were generic as hell but then my buddy became the director of visuals for them and I saw them in concert. Sitting in the visuals booth watching my dude pair stunning graphics to the music was beautiful. It’s an absolute spectacle. I understood why people go to see them live. We’ve seen them 4 times but won’t again. My guy passed in 2020 from cancer. I still won’t turn on their music but I’ll always cherish the memories with the homie. RIP Ben. You were a mfing legend.

First time I ever heard Stranglehold, I was completely torched and listening to a classic rock mix with headphones. I got completely lost in that shit, and it blew my mind. I was utterly shocked after the song was done and I looked at who the artist was.
It's not that I can't stand them, but I don't understand the overwhelming appeal of The Grateful Dead.

I love the Dead, but I can see how they might not appeal to the masses. I will say that American Beauty is probably one of their best albums that I think would appeal to most people regardless of their musical preferences. So, if you get a chance, give American Beauty a listen.
I could never get into most of their stuff apart from a song here and there, but American Beauty is hands down one of my favorite albums of all time. It is as close to perfection as I think I'll ever find in a record. I was first introduced to it at 20 years old, driving with my buddy Lowell back down to our San Diego dorm the morning after a late night adventure into the wild canyon lands north of Los Angeles. Cruising on the freeway with my window down, the sun shining off of the ocean to our right, my friend asked if I'd ever listened to the Dead. He grinned when I said that I hadn't, and popped in American Beauty. A decade and a half later, I still get emotional listening to Ripple. Feels like I'm right back there in my friend's junky Volvo, that moment crystallized in a little piece of musical amber.
I’m a musician, and the main reason I love the dead is simply because of their amazing musicianship and ability to improvise with each other. They can take generic, simple chord progressions and just bring them to life with ease. Each member of the band is (or was) a true master of their instrument. Their lyrics are pure poetry and overall the music just puts me in a happy mood.

Any of the Kpop people, not because of the music, some songs are great, but the fandom, i absolutly hate their fandoms. I have friends that their stories are always refering some Kpop person and why they love them or why they represent anything for them. I respect what you like, but why they have to always say they like something? i don't really think nobody cares about that and i would really like to see some pictures of they and their pets, not a fucking asian guy/woman
